You forget to mention the most important thing imo: color science. First dslr that I used a lot was 30d, it has amazing color. I just came across some old pictures and was so pleasant to see those organic colors. It makes me cringe especially when I see what pictures come out of my recently acquired a7s. Also the grip of these cameras is so amazing and good lenses are affordable. I think I will ditch my a7s and get a 6d or 5dmIII soon.

I have a 5D ii and a Fujifilm x-t2. I also just ordered a 5D Classic (I already have one but it is in pieces due to me converting it to full spectrum) the colors that come out of the 5D are AMAZING. I can’t wait to use it.

it probably doesn't hurt that the pixels are larger than newer cameras too

absolutely yes! the 20D is not just a good cheap camera, it is a crop sensor version of the 5D classic. Images out of the camera need little or no tweaking in LR or Photoshop. Skin tones just amazing and low pass filter resulting in very sharp images.

I've been out of photography for at least 10 years. I've just been using my phone's camera. I finally made the decision to buy a used digital camera off of eBay. I was completely overwhelmed by the vast quantify of cameras on eBay. There are thousands of cameras to choose from.
A couple days ago in haste I finally bought a couple cameras. I bought a Fujifilm FinePix S100FS and then a Fujifilm FinePix S4500 for around $30 each shipped.
After discovery your channel today. I now realize I probably could of done a lot better for a little bit more money. I guess I can get my feet wet with these cameras then get something better later.

some think claim that fuji has THE BEST color science (and sony the worst). if nothing else, they're still built in japan

I use a 20D as my main shooter for landscapes. I got a body, battery grip, and sigma 24-70 lens for $120.00. With the original 's the original boxes and manuals. It's not an EOS R6, but for me, it gets the job done.

the 20D takes great images for an 8MP sensor. And, BTW, thanks for being one of the few creators here that puts END SCREEN CARDS on a real END SCREEN and not over the video I am still watching!

The peak of the old XXD type were the 40D and 50D. They are even usable today for pro paid work.
New ones are better of course, but for build quality and capabilities the 40D and 50D are legends

Got one in September 2004 and used it almost three years until the 5D prices fell ... Never regretted to buy the 20D as my first DSLR. Never let me down. Took my most beautiful images with it (since I was far more motivated than today). In comparison to today, well, I once in while reedit my old photographs and it's very different with the 20D images, since at 100% you still see black bars to the left and right ... because the image width does not quite match the 3840px of today's standard. :D Of course, I'm happy that I didn't go for an old EOS 10D or the cheap 300D with even lower pixel count. And 8 MP might not be plenty nowadays, but the images as large prints still look detailed and satisfying. I just want to say, I'm fine with the results from back then, but I don't want to switch back. :)
Probably it's really a good idea to buy a 20D + 50/1.8 for about 100$ to learn photography ... For that price there might be no more fun and even quality available out there.

Something I’ve noticed with these old DSLRs is that the original kit lenses are often the same price as the cameras. Some of the aps-c kit lenses were pretty good and are often a lot cheaper now than a 50mm which are usually full frame and haven’t really changed in design for years. Whereas there have often been several generations of kit lens.

I was shooting outside this summer, flowers, grass, closeup lots of things with different cameras and on day I took the 20D out. It defines details in a good way. You have to experience it to understand.

Heh, i still own this camera. And it still functions. It was my 2nd DSLR purchase, after the Digital Rebel/300D. I'd argue that on computer screen, a person could not tell the difference between a photo taken with the 20D and a 5D4. For the record, it works find with any size CF card. I've used it with CF cards up to 128gb.

I bought a used one a few years ago, as my first DSLR, and the seller explicitly sold it as a "learning tool", those were her words, and surely it was that, and i fully agree on all your words, to consider it a simple in features but durable and enjoyable camera, to the point that today i´m still using it for street photography and loving it.

If you grew up with film cameras - then the early Canon digital SLRs are great. I've never used multi- AF points, super high ISO, and don't care about video. If you're only showing the photos on a laptop or printing on 5x7 or 6x4 for family albums, then save money and buy a 20D, 30D, 5Dmk1. I shot my daughter's graduation day on a 5dMk1 and 50mm - the photos are great and much better than any iPhone could do.

Just picked up a 20D for $25 and it’s good but the build quality on the 10D is better and so are the ergonomics. 20D is still a great camera to throw in a bag for everyday pictures.

I absolutely hate when I want to finish the end of the video but also want to click one of the links, and it's this tense dance between making it to the end or clicking a link. Frequently have to rewind to pop the cards up again. I'll keep this in mind for all my future videos.

For really old camera, I like Pentax they used to use CCD sensor and AA battery. That was just different.

@@steve_heise *I just couldn't stop myself !!* I found on Ebay a Canon Powershot S90 Point & Shoot F/2.0 28mm OIS 3.8 optical zoom aaaaand that has *a CCD sensor* ..... for a sub-$100 price point similar to this vid.
I had a S60 a longgggg time ago and it too had a *CCD sensor* & for a 5MP it took amazingly clear pics/vid (reasonably close to camera, but not necessarily _extremely_ close), aperture F/2.8. S90 at 10MP and F/2.0 is 2X as sensitive as F/2.8. *I've always steadfastly wondered why on earth cameras drifted away from CCD to CMOS totally & completely* just churning the market...change for change sake... if in a smaller sensor CCD is just flat out still much more organic than CMOS, which begins to hold its own in larger sensor sizes and more megapixels IMHO..... *Long Live CCD !!!* [LIKED / already a subscriber]

Watching videos about 20D, I almost feel betrayed by buying the 2000D last summer. Yes, I didn't know enough about camera features and just chose a deal which sounded good. It's not a bad camera, but I just can't undestand how it can only shoot 3 frames per second. And many of these older cameras can shoot 5 or more. It was released in 2018 and is an entry-level camera, but still. Since buying this I know much more and will upgrade in the future. Less zeros in Canon's camera model means more advanced and yeah. Maybe in near future will swap 2000D to a 250D, which gives me a bit more. I think Canon made a mistake for not including some features in 2000D in 2018. Of course it's still one of the best sold entry-level cameras still which I also understand, kinda.

For viewers who want to try. Get the 30D, because it's literally a baby 5D original and really cheap. I just got one with a 50mm f1.8 II for under 80$ after searching and waiting for a while.

I picked mine up with a tamron 28-80 lens and unfortunately, it fell out of my gym locker TWICE when I thought it was secured and the lens doesn't want to work its full range anymore, but BOTH still work! I think I had to buy a 64mb card for it which didn't cause any issues. I just haven't SEEN my pics yet because it needs a dedicated USB cable, but I just love the feel of a REAL camera after owning a couple canon powershots and cheesy kodak point and shoots. Honestly, my Pixel 2 that doesn't want to work anymore unless it's plugged in to a battery probably takes better pics than THOSE and does video like I thought the EOS would, but it's just so much fun owning almost $2000 worth of kit for a bit over $100. I have a really hard time wrapping my head around
(pun intended) straps that cost more than my camera. I'm worried about tripod mounting as I'm an amputee. I won't even attempt that without a strap. It's the nicest camera I've ever used except maybe the 35mm Pentax I learned B&W on in highshool. Then again, that was an entry level camera. Maybe it's an old camera, but like you mentioned... it's NOT PLASTIC! I think I really want to become a Fjifilm guy though when I upgrade. They still make cameras in japan, build them like tanks, and have some of the best lenses and sensors, if not best focus, but that's not an issue for me as I don't shoot action.

We dont need high megapixel camera actually, 1-2MP is actually enough for social media for less compression and it's saving up our storage
Nowadays camera is bloated with high megapixels (more than 10MP, and some case reach 100MP) which is slowing down our R/W speed and fill our drive with more garbage

Buy those camera's for that price, if it was only to set it on a beautiful place in your house. I am sure these camera's will go up in price, much much up. I own a 10D, a 30D, 40D and a 5D. A beatiful 1 Dx mark II. I use my 6D and lately my 50D for real use. The other camera;s standing in a glass case to be beautiful. I do use them to make them work, seems better for the mechanics. And it's also fun, of course, and the batteries will last longer. Perhaps I buy a 20D for the collection, altought the camera's I spoke off I bought new. They are mine, not bought for fun.

If you like green or brown colors and very low overall color fidelity, this for you. It also has the worst dynamic range i have ever seen.
I know, i have had this back in the day, sent it back 3 times for front and or back focus issues. Kept it for a few months and was very glad to be rid of it.
After that i`ve been tricked to buy canon again. Sold it when Sony NEX came out. Man, what an upgrade. Canon, never again.
