This $200 camera shoots infinite film like photos

  • The Canon G7x ii isn't considered a very serious photography camera. However, with all cameras today kinda being the same, and film cameras + film prices becoming outrageous, "vintage digital" might be coming up. This camera allows you to shoot close to film-like photos on a digital medium. Oh, and Fujifilm x100v . #fujifilmx100v Yes, this is just for the algorithm. Don't get that camera. It's too expensive.

I'm noticing people pointing out the price. Remember, I live in Japan....... Not everyone lives in Europe or the US😂 I don't lie in my vids.
    1) I bought the camera for ¥33,000 yen used, approximately $200
    2) There have been used listings in Japan for similar prices last month when I was making this vid.
The market is too hyped up now, so things are apparently getting pricey. Be careful and find good deals over a longer time span :)

I like the idea of just buying a camera and sticking to it for as many years as possible. I think if you can use the same camera for more than 10 years, you really master it and if you keep going a little longer, everyone else will have moved on from using that camera And you’ll have a unique style with equipment that other people can’t easily get any more. I think that’s the way to go.

I appreciate that you got this camera for $200, and great job on this video--but I think it's potentially misleading to prominently feature the price of the camera as you do in your title when it's so different from the going rate. For example, I know you "can" find a Leica M6 or a Contax T3 in a thrift shop for $5--but that doesn't make it a "$5 camera."

@@Rabixter can confirm, this camera shoots very similarly to my original g9 from 2007 although when you increase the iso from anything above 400 the photos can have lots of noise. that tends to make you shoot using lower iso settings and getting darker and more rich and higher contrast photos. prices for it rn are like $50 so i would suggest checking it out before the fujifilm x100v fans get obsessed with it and make the price skyrocket

I used to be really into big, powerful cameras with giant lenses up front. But after losing my passion for photography for a while, I feel like these subtle smaller cameras that you can tuck into a coat pocket or in your bag would really make me love photography again. The big cams will still be fun for more professional style shoots, but with a smaller one I feel like I'll be able to capture life's more meaningful moments!

I bought this camera for my dad for Christmas 2020 but he ended up not wanting to use it. I don't know if I agree about it looking like film but there is definitely something special about the way this camera renders colors and also it is extremely versatile. I have gone on multiple international trips now taking only the G7X mk II and my Olympus 35 RC, two compact cameras, one digital and one film and have had no regrets when I used to regularly bring full size DSLRs with me everywhere I went. This combination works for me as someone who is primarily a street shooter, obviously it's not going to hold up for serious landscape photographers. But yes, this camera definitely has a pleasing character to its images that I have always loved.

This camera looks very interesting to me. I am getting on in years and was taught film photography in grade 9. In school we developed our own film, made contact sheets and then prints. My dad was a photo nut and had a darkroom in our basement where he also taught me to the entire process. We used mostly B+W Kodak Tri X 400 ASA film and printed 8x10 but we did experiment with Cibachrome colour film. One bonus was we also had a Russian Kirilian photography device acquired from a local college that didn’t want it anymore and I made many colour aura photos of my fingers and hands, leaves and small objects. Smell of ozone. I was about 12 when I started and did it for 5 years. I wish film and chemicals weren’t so expensive, still have the enlarger.

I've been shooting a Canon G7x ii for a year now. My main camera is a Fujifilm X-T2. I like to take a camera with me wherever I go. With two little babies often in tow, I don't have room or hands to carry a "normal" camera. The G7x solved this problem for me. And I get great images with it. I especially love the pop-out flash. Really gives that point and shoot direct flash look that I love.

  •  ปีที่แล้ว +5

I've had this camera for a few years now. I shoot mostly with Fuji cameras and love them, but this Canon is an exception for me. Great performance in a small compact body. I take this camera with me wherever any of my APS-C cameras are already too big. This camera can fit in any pocket and still take great photos with it. It doesn't have the magic of using Fuji cameras, but the results are great.

Over the past month my feed has been bombarded with videos about the X100V, so much so that I'm convinced that I "need" one. To justify the purchase I blew the dust off my G7X II and am trying to see if I'm actually any good at still photography (I do mostly video). Well, as you might have guessed I was very impressed with the photo abilities of the G7X II, so much so that I'm now pretty satisfied that I already have a good still camera and can save the money I was going to spend on the X100V.

The secret is sensors with less megapixels….each of those megapixel are larger and there is more space between them on the sensor. This results in a unique color and worse ISO performance (which is what you want). I have a Nikon D50 that is APS-C and is 6 megapixels. It gives a classic old school look.

    • @timoteiNitrogen
      @timoteiNitrogen ปีที่แล้ว +1

Its completely other way around, more megapixels means more pixels per inch on a given sensor size, which gives worse high ISO performance. Of course when comparing sensors of the same era.

Wow - I feel like this video was a love letter to my Canon G7X Mk ii. A camera that I should have paid much more attention to than I have. I bought it for vlogging purposes - but never quite got into vlogging. So it just sat ignored. Until recently I picked it up again for photography purposes. It takes gorgeous photos. That Canon color science is just right for me. There's so much for me to learn and I think I'll be able to do that with this camera.

I've had one for years, and it's awesome. I love that it shots raw and I can dump photos into Lightroom and edit them there as well. Being pocket I can take this into places I can't my DSLR into it. The low light auto focus isn't great at times , but if you take enough photos you'll get the shot you want. It takes practice to use and realize it's not going to be perfect on the first pass.

Another great video. I also realized that what I am looking for in my photography apart from composition and interesting shapes and lighting is “character” (whatever that means…). I recently sold my Fuji stuff and my GR III and got a Lumix GX9 with Leica 15mm. Sure the sensor is smaller and the lens is not necessarily the sharpest but I just like to shoot with it and the images tend to have a certain characteristic to them that I like. I’m also eyeing the Canon GX7 m2 and waiting to spot a good deal and I’m also looking into older Pentax DSLRs to directly adapt my vintage K mount lenses

My favorite retro digital camera is the Fuji f30. It's a 6 megapixel from 2006. The sensor on it was just incredible and noise looked a lot more camera grain like than with nearly anything else even from 10 years later. My biggest personal gripe was that it was only a 36-108mm lens and I like to widen back to at least 28mm. Otherwise I might consider trying to find one again. Even the original one I had I bought years after it came out and it still held its own. Unlike with many other cameras you could zoom in to 100% and pixel peep and the image would still hold up great.
