I'm noticing people pointing out the price. Remember, I live in Japan....... Not everyone lives in Europe or the US😂 I don't lie in my vids.
    1) I bought the camera for ¥33,000 yen used, approximately $200
    2) There have been used listings in Japan for similar prices last month when I was making this vid.
The market is too hyped up now, so things are apparently getting pricey. Be careful and find good deals over a longer time span :)

I like the idea of just buying a camera and sticking to it for as many years as possible. I think if you can use the same camera for more than 10 years, you really master it and if you keep going a little longer, everyone else will have moved on from using that camera And you’ll have a unique style with equipment that other people can’t easily get any more. I think that’s the way to go.

I used to be really into big, powerful cameras with giant lenses up front. But after losing my passion for photography for a while, I feel like these subtle smaller cameras that you can tuck into a coat pocket or in your bag would really make me love photography again. The big cams will still be fun for more professional style shoots, but with a smaller one I feel like I'll be able to capture life's more meaningful moments!

Hi I just want to come back and say this video changed my life. I already had a G7x ii lying around and I sort of neglected it for a long time to take videos because of my depression. This video gave me a small enough step to pick up my camera again, simply shoot one single picture. That single picture led to reason to leave the bed and go outside and experience life again.
Oh and my photos are stunning now thanks to your settings video. One million thank yous!

I appreciate that you got this camera for $200, and great job on this video--but I think it's potentially misleading to prominently feature the price of the camera as you do in your title when it's so different from the going rate. For example, I know you "can" find a Leica M6 or a Contax T3 in a thrift shop for $5--but that doesn't make it a "$5 camera."

I bought this camera for my dad for Christmas 2020 but he ended up not wanting to use it. I don't know if I agree about it looking like film but there is definitely something special about the way this camera renders colors and also it is extremely versatile. I have gone on multiple international trips now taking only the G7X mk II and my Olympus 35 RC, two compact cameras, one digital and one film and have had no regrets when I used to regularly bring full size DSLRs with me everywhere I went. This combination works for me as someone who is primarily a street shooter, obviously it's not going to hold up for serious landscape photographers. But yes, this camera definitely has a pleasing character to its images that I have always loved.

This camera looks very interesting to me. I am getting on in years and was taught film photography in grade 9. In school we developed our own film, made contact sheets and then prints. My dad was a photo nut and had a darkroom in our basement where he also taught me to the entire process. We used mostly B+W Kodak Tri X 400 ASA film and printed 8x10 but we did experiment with Cibachrome colour film. One bonus was we also had a Russian Kirilian photography device acquired from a local college that didn’t want it anymore and I made many colour aura photos of my fingers and hands, leaves and small objects. Smell of ozone. I was about 12 when I started and did it for 5 years. I wish film and chemicals weren’t so expensive, still have the enlarger.

The secret is sensors with less megapixels….each of those megapixel are larger and there is more space between them on the sensor. This results in a unique color and worse ISO performance (which is what you want). I have a Nikon D50 that is APS-C and is 6 megapixels. It gives a classic old school look.

    • @timoteiNitrogen

I've had this camera for a few years now. I shoot mostly with Fuji cameras and love them, but this Canon is an exception for me. Great performance in a small compact body. I take this camera with me wherever any of my APS-C cameras are already too big. This camera can fit in any pocket and still take great photos with it. It doesn't have the magic of using Fuji cameras, but the results are great.

My favorite retro digital camera is the Fuji f30. It's a 6 megapixel from 2006. The sensor on it was just incredible and noise looked a lot more camera grain like than with nearly anything else even from 10 years later. My biggest personal gripe was that it was only a 36-108mm lens and I like to widen back to at least 28mm. Otherwise I might consider trying to find one again. Even the original one I had I bought years after it came out and it still held its own. Unlike with many other cameras you could zoom in to 100% and pixel peep and the image would still hold up great.

I bought a Fuji X-T20 for concert photography, and it just absolutely stinks compared to my $16 film camera. There is this painterly, artistic quality that is completely missing from the photos it takes. I've found in many cases, digital cameras are dead boring to their core, and the "film simulations" are gross and fail miserably to recreate what it is that makes film so great.
The photos you posted here are the only that I've seen from a digital creator that genuinely feel like film, because, as you said, the imperfections. It's not just adding "vintage feel" and grain for the sake of grain, the joy of film and cameras like this is that they make an image seem more like an impressionist work rather than an attempt at a recreation. It highlights things, it obscures perfect ultra res detail behind these approximations that are still good enough to show you that this is a true, honest vision of a moment in time, but through a mystical piece of technology that sees it a certain way and that can't go back and alter how it sees that moment.

It's a Powershot G series - those have always been the serious point & shoot still photography cameras that Canon makes. The old ones are really fun if you can find a G5X, G15. Not anywhere close! The G1xMk3 is an APS-C sensor camera, a totally different league from the smaller 1"-type sensors that are in the G5 and G7 series. The update to the G5x (which I have and like) is the G5xMk2. The G5xMk2 doesn't have the SLR-style viewfinder bump of the G5x, but moves the viewfinder to a pop-up, similar to what Sony does with their RX-100 series cameras.

    • @cybervehicle
      @cybervehicle ปีที่แล้ว

@@amberhawke The cameras have exactly identical ergonomics - I stand by what I said. The G1X Mark III is an updated G5X. The APS-C sensor helps with low light performance as well as the ability to have narrower depth of field, & even though that's not really important in a camera of this style, but from a photographer's standpoint if you put tape over the names of all three of those cameras you'd expect the G1X III to be the follow-up product.
