same with mine I just got a female bet ta a few days ago. she is in a divided tank with my male betta they saw each other the whole day today, but when I got back home she was pale (it could've been stress or too small of a tank) so I tried feeding her and put her in a bottled water bigger tank her color came back 5 mins later and she's swimming a lot but she just got a bit bloated maybe she's constipated by the stress of seeing him for a whole day or maybe she has eggs I noticed her stomach a little bloated after I fed her a pinch of bloodworms.. which might have been too much (she didnt eat much all day though)I hope she makes the night.. if anyone sees this please tell me what you think

Thank you so much for mentioning that crowntail bettas naturally tend to have that look! This is exactly the information I was needing to hear. I just bought four female bettas in Hope to do a sorority with them. One of them is a crowntail female and she was the only one out of them that had the bulge. I was researching trying to figure out if she was egg bound or trying to lay eggs.

I have been thinking and worrying my female betta is sick coz she's a blue crowntail and her belly is just huge! But she's very active infact a little judgmental towards another mate in the female betta sorority tank. This was helpful in realising that she's just carrying eggs. Thanks a lot!

I have trouble sexing my bettas as they all have the long fins which denote a male. Also, I have heard you can determine the sex of the fry at the egg stage but controlling the water temp. Is this true and if so what are the water temps to use.

    • @CreativePetKeeping
      @CreativePetKeeping  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

From what I've heard from fish breeders, controlling the gender of the fry only seems to work with some species. Betta breeders have told me that temp does does affect gender ratios in bettas but exposure to certain hormones does. Some farms overseas use this method..but it does have adverse effects on females such as infertility or very low egg production. I need to do more research because its an interesting topic.

But I have noticed she will get super huge, and then go back to just looking plump!

My cousin had to quickly rehome her betta to me because the betta was getting sick and my cousin couldn't properly take care of her. She has some fin rot and I was concerned with how bloated she looked. I have been searching for hours to find a reason for this and nothing seemed to line up. One vet told me, my female betta was egg bound and either she mated to lay the eggs or she would develop dropsy and die.... I got her one male then I realized his body was too small and he was somehow weak /ill.... so I got the biggest male and she rejected him ... now I ended up with 3 bettas (means 3 tanks) and my female is so big that her tummy is getting purple spots I am afraid she might die , she also has constipation, I have tried fasting her, then feeding the chickpeas and now I will try the epson salt. :(

kasia, you have been such help with my fish journey . i have been wanting a betta for a few year but had been putting it off for too long (tbh i was scared i was gonna mess something up 😓) by the time i was ready, i had been watching the unicorn bucket babies, and saw they were ready to be sold, and i obviously got hyped. by the time i had gone on the site there was like one betta left, and by the time i went back to buy it, gone :(
about a week ago i took the plunge and i bought my first female betta from a LFS. after i brought her home i had notice she was a bit bloated and of course i got nervous, but after looking a bit closer i saw her egg spot was pretty prominent so after a few quick google searches i found out she is gravid :) and doesnt seem to sick.
i honestly would love to breed in the future, but she seems like such a mixture of things (i bought her as an assorted female, but she looks like a metallic black combtail, but she has yellow in-between her anal fin spines and has this light blue almost lavender in-between her caudal fin spines, and the rest is black with a little blue shimmer very interesting looking 😂) so im not to interested in breeding her, i plan on her being just my pet but it would be defiantly interesting to see what her offspring would be.
i just want to say thank you so much for the videos, you have inspired a ton of fish lovers and thats amazing. i strive to keep my fish as happy as yours, keep up the great work kasia!

I have the exact same betta as in the thumb nail and she is very fat just like this. She’s having trouble swimming and she’s been aggressive to the other females. The others are also looking a bit swollen now... this can’t be because of eggs right?

This really helps. I have a sorority tank with some crown tails and I was worried they were constipated but now I’m thinking it’s their body shape.

I have three female bettas.. Sadly one has died, but she has lay her eggs before.
After I separate them from the male again, I see one of them getting chunky. Can it be eggs inside? Should I bring the female to the male fish? Or just let her stay in the tank.

Mine is a little thick on her sides with a tinny bit of a belly she has the egg spot on her cloacia should I continue to feed like normal or fast.
She is a veil tail (according to her cup (in a 5 gallon now)) but I think she has more of the tail of a spade if any of this helps.

Thanks for the video, I have had many males and know about females being egg Bound. My new female recently had become thick, I can see her eggs. She makes me nervous even though I know what is happening, I'm so used to males and when they get thicker it's not good. This helped calm my anxiety.

Hi ;-) like I said before this is the only and best video out there! My betta came eggy from petco :(
No pineconing I am 100% she's carrying eggs I even posted a picture on a bed of Paige and everyone agreed however I've been fasting her and she will not absorb them I tried the daphnia nothing I tried the brine shrimp nothing any suggestions I have her in a separate tank as she is usually in a 29 gallon with her Buddies.
Please help me it's making me really really sad to keep her separate from the Coreys and everyone else she deserves so much better

Hello, I really hope someone can help me. I have two lovely females who are extremely bloated with their ovipositor sticking out a TON. I lost a female to egg binding (I know it's rare but it still does happen) and I want to prevent it in these lovely ladies. They've been fasting and they're still HUGE.

MY female betta recently got big and stopneating.i did research and found that maybe she was constipated. The pet store bold me not to try to feed her and feed her a pea for fiber

Thank you so much for your video! I got my crown fish tail beta around 1 year ago and she was very weak but as she got older and stronger she started getting a big belly, and I thought it was because it was on the same tank as my male beta(they separated) and maybe she wanted to have babies or was egg bound. But after you mentioning that crown fish tail betas usually have that body type, calm me a little bit, because she is happy just a big belly haha

I have a dumbo ear female betta, I’ve put here with a male in a 40gal tank, I see her belly full. I’m concerned that it’s an infection or something. I plan on switching to the 5gal tank so If she has eggs she’ll release them.....

Hi! Im hoping you or someone who sees this can help me out. About a week and a half ago I put all my female Bettas into a 10 gal tank and they've been doing really good. they have the occasional chase, but everyone seems to get along really well. But the past 2 days I've seen that most of them have their fins clamped and would rather sit in the plants than swim around like before. A few of them have also gotten big abdomens and can't swim as well. Ive had Bettas for years and I've never had this problem before. Ive tested the water also and the water parameters are all good. Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated!!

I would recommend maybe trying to deworm them as maybe there could be an internal parasite. How does their poop look?

@@CreativePetKeeping I'm honestly not sure. they're always moving or hiding so I never really see them poop.
