    Just left petco and they had many dead Bettas in cups. It's disgusting. I rescued one that was almost dead and he is in a natural tank and is doing zoomies.. he was pale and listless when I bought him. He's so happy . Thank you for all your educational videos. I've learned the correct way to create a natural habitat.

      I was literally at a Petco today as well, in Waldorf, MD. Yes, i’m calling them out! Dead Bettas in cups and also in extremely dirty water. Some had open wounds and to the point where they were all white, zero color, i felt so bad. I can’t believe this happens as often as it does, it’s absolutely mortifying. If only i had the space! You want to save them so bad but then they’ll just order another fish to take it’s place so you’d be supporting the abuse. Already have 2 Bettas, both in 5 1/2 gallon tanks, heater, plants, Fluval HOB filters that actually support 20 gallons of water and they’re living their best lives.

      @@jakaribey23 sadly most stores around the world iam in Switzerland and if you buy fish at a petshop they will always say atleast a 20 gallon tank but themselves have them in those plastic cups and this for atleast like 2 weeks since they even do quarantine in those cups… funny enough most employees dont even know what fish they are selling and when i applied i never heard back… they even had a tank full with rams and they where fighting since smaller ones went through the territory the tank was max 30gallon tank with like 20 rams

    💖Another great video from Father Fish... My daughter became a lifelong Betta Lover. My little hobby channel was actually named for her. One day we were watching tv (back in the 1980s) and a television announcer said that a program was 'Officially starting." My 3 year old daughter got all excited; she thought it was going to be about fish. She said "Can we watch the fishely?" 😄 I couldn't disappoint her, so we made her a video with a VHS recorder. Her grandma even made her a whale video. 🐟

    I accidentally bred bettas! Lol. I had put a pair in a heavily planted outside pond last summer.. I took them out as the weather cooled and just left the pond to fend for itself over winter. As it warmed up again in late spring, I noticed baby fish. I thought they were guppies at first, since they were the same size…then realised they were tiny bettas. We had nights that got down to 4°c so I am baffled how they survived for so many months at such low temperatures. I know they had “wild food” to eat but they must have been dormant for some of that time to still be so small when I found them. I am giving them dried shrimp and black worms now and they are growing well. There are about 20. It’s starting to get cold here again in Australia so I’m not sure if I should leave them in the pond for the coming winter. So far they are not fighting.

    • @FatherFish
      @FatherFish  ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Pretty impressive. Leave some of them through this coming winter. They will not fight until they become fully mature. If the pond is large enough males can easily survive in community. Please keep me posted about these. I am not aware of low temp survival of bettas.

    I have always loved Betas; I very first tank had a red feisty beta along with my swordtails and angel fish. He was king of that tank. He was a jumper and landed on my floor a couple of times unfazed , and soon after made that bubble nest. I had baby fish from one of the other fish that he happily gobbled up , so it was quite exciting for me as a 12 yr old(:

    From one old gheezer to another this was the most get to the point informative video I’ve ever watched on Betta’s , I’ve tried to raise The babies but didn’t get the feeding part right , would raising them in a larger tank with more micro fauna help keep them going till they are old enough to eat larger food , one thing I’d like you thoughts on is the depth of the water in the tank, is 6” of water better for the male to grab eggs and put them in the bubble nest, much like the rice patties of Vietnam? 🤔

    • @FatherFish

I want what's best for my Betta, and the man himself, Chris Kringle of fish, has convinced me, breeding maybe the right path forward. My problem is I do not want a great many bettas, just the one tank, maybe another if my gardening binge continues. What should I do with the fry? Or the adolescents if fry are to sensitive to be rid of? Should I pursue this, or pamper my betta as I can and simply not breed him?

    I removed some guppies from my betta fish' tank only the other day to begin the process of converting his water to the mineral water as suggested by fantastic 😍 Fr Fish 🐟 and only a few days later he had for the first time started blowing bubbles! So i was thinking he was lonely and missing his friends already! I think they love to have company (of another fish species so they dont fight with their own kind when not mating with them). He was in a temporary little tank while I prepared his tank for a few hours with some groovy cherry shrimps who seemed very happy and also a couple of young small guppies and a small panda(black & white) catfish who are also awesome little dudes. My guppies, catfish and shrimps live in a very large interesting tank usually where they are very active and sociable and are back there now. 🥰 My beautiful betta 💞 is really enjoying his new mineral water (bought in spring water 1.5 litre bottles from the supermarket) and is perched in prime place now on my windowsill in my lounge. This is his first night in his spring cleaned pad! He hasn't blown more bubbles in there yet on his first day and seems very active straight away. I was wondering if you were supposed to get a betta fish with the same shape, style and colour when you put them together when they are ready to mate? I have another betta (supposedly female I was told in the shop and which is a different type of betta and not so fluffy finned as the male). She is in a large tank which was the same kind I bought her from ... she was with other female bettas in the shop so she is used to being social! She currently lives with guppies, neons, cory catfish, shrimps, mountain/cloud Minnows! They get on fine but i hope to give her a slightly less busy tank so she has more peace as she ages! I will try look out for the white egg spot now incase she can buddy up for her romantic momentary marriage with my male betta if he starts bubble blowing again too! 🤣 Such a cute breeding lifestyle they have! really hope i can breed some betta fry successfully at least once one day :) Now that i understand their natural habitat of more shallow streams etc feel much more wised up and less confused or stressed about their happiness. 🎉

    I love bettas but I don't want to breed them because if I can't find homes for the babies I don't have space to separate all the males from each other.
    I've bred kribs and I left them together in the tank when the babies grew out. The original pair kept their territory clear, but didn't hurt their grown up offspring who had the other half of the tank. They'd all mix together at feeding time with no aggression. Was quite interesting. 2 of the offspring paired off and claimed a cave at the opposite end of the tank from their parents but weren't able to produce any fry (either they got eaten as wigglers or maybe they weren't fertile being siblings). The original pair spawned a few times but the wigglers got eaten by their previous offspring (which is probably a good thing as I had no space for any more!).

    So funny you mentioned they get depressed. I have a female and male betta in a 40 gallon tank. I didn’t know about introducing them and just put them in together. I got lucky because they get along so well. I’ve had them for a month now together but they haven’t bred. My girl betta named Bellatrix has her little egg spot and looks like she’s carrying eggs. I don’t know why my male betta stopped making bubble nests. I have another male betta (Nemo koi betta) named Cepheus in a ten gallon tank and I swear he’s a dog stuck in a fish’s body. He loves being pet. I’m not kidding. I rub his belly, fins, and his chin 🤣🤣🤣 . He constantly comes to the surface for me to pet him. Strangest thing ever! I’m worried he’s getting lonely though and I wonder if I can add him in the 40 gallon with Bellatrix and Orion? I don’t want the two males to kill each other. I’m so attached to my bettas. I love them as much as my dogs

    • @FatherFish

      Floating plants will help. Keep the water level an inch below the edge of the tank. No more than 1/2" of dirt and 1.5" of sand to cap.

    Maybe the most important message should be: dont put them alone in small tanks. Give them tankmates. Corys, tetras, whatever. That kerps them active. Of course is breeding a major instinct. But not everybody knows what to do with 20 baby bettas.
