    The Editor and Zeus are what really make Arma 3 great. With Zeus, you can literally interact with players in real time and make them fight a "Real Enemy". For example, if they end up killing a patrol during an infiltration and 1 member survives, You can simulate him contacting with the radio and sending 2 other patrols to that zone in order to find the enemy. There are not a lot of games that let you really fight AI that responds to everything you do as they would in real life.
    And about the Editor... well, I have done from Milsim Operations to Horror Missions. Eden Editor lets you do whatever mission you wish, via scripts, sounds, animations..... Literally everything you want your mission to be, it can be done

    • @jryde421
      @jryde421 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I try to tell people this and they dont get it.
      Iv turned arma into a racing game.
      I simulated an ailen invasion that sent a plague that turned everyone into mutants and zombies then sent robots in to exterminate the zombies, mutants and any survivor holding out before the ailens came down.
      Iv simulated lots of fun shit and I really cant play a game as much as I can arma3...its action, adventure, horror, and everything in one...definitely a ground breaking formula, bigger then anything rockstar has done.

    This is the game I dreamed of playing since long before computer technology was capable of delivering it. However, Arma can be the most frustrating and maddening game I have ever played. But that is in part because of what makes it sooo good. Arma 3 has capabilities which are far beyond any other game I have played and it lures me into trying to create ever more complex scenarios. Scenarios that are beyond even this game's capabilities (and mine as a mission maker). That and some of it's more infamous bugs ;-). With well over 4,000 hours of game play, I am still just scratching at the surface of what this game can do. The modding community is simply amazing. As much as I look forward to an Arma 4, I am happy to keep playing Arma 3 for many years to come.

    • @artiew8718
      @artiew8718 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the difference between Arma2 players and Arma3 players. Arma2 players knew that the next Arma would not have any content and be riddled with bugs and even worse performance while offering less incentive to change over. I wonder what happened to the underwater cringe that the developers tried to promote Arma with... completely abandoned. lol

    The thing that kept me in Arma was the editor. I bought the alpha version which didn’t have any missions or campaigns and only two factions and very few assets. I discovered the editor and learned how to make missions and making use of the new assets as they were released. I cursed when BI changed the class names of vehicles and units and broke my missions, but then I just edited the mission.sqm file to fix them. Whatever BI do to break the game, there is always a workaround to fix it for simple missions like mine.

    The editor is absolutely amazing, I can't describe how easily you can go in depth with the mission you create, it's just so intuitive. Plus the scripting makes literally anything possible. It's a gold mine for creativity. I've myself spent over 6 months (not every day but still a considerable amount of time) creating a single mission for a campaign I've planned. Well, my ambitions were a bit too large and I've given up finishing the missions, ended up making one mission and a half but I'm still pretty proud of them.

    • @notproplayer3649
      @notproplayer3649 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Viper1Zero sir, your word really means a lot to me, indeed, making this campaign was above all, a great deal of enjoyment and fun, the creativity aspect of making the mission was amazing but...I must stay perfectly honest, work (mainly uni) kept me from having the time to enjoy and use arma 3 and its editor properly, and when I have a bit of time, another game that sparked my interest takes that time away: DCS world.
      I must say that because I love planes, it takes the cake, but I am indeed sad that the editor is not on the same level as arma3.
      But pretty recently, I have fired Arma 3 back up and I must say that it grew back on me.
      I know I'll start working on these missions again, it's just a matter of when...
      Also, as a matter of fact I wrote that comment because your video made me remember how much arma3 meant to me and still means to me.
      In any way, thank you very much for that.

    as a mission builder, I can say ArmA 3 is not just a game, it is a platform. I spend hours and hours every week just being in the 3D Editor making missions for my community to enjoy, ArmA 3 offers more than just fights, it offers chances for creativity with Zeus and 3den, it is just amazing.

    If they took ARMA 3 and shoved it into their new engine and called it ARMA 4, I'd buy it with out a blink! ARMA 3 is so good on so many levels.
    I make myself missions, play some tactical barbie in the editor to trick out my squad then get hours and hours out of each mission. I'm no master mission maker ahha, I use Drongos mods to make my games and I LOVE IT!
    3k + hours in and still fire it up a LOT. I'll for months of nothing but ARMA then dive off into a new game release for a bit but I always fall back on ARMA 3.

    Love arma since i discovered it in 2007 with arma 1 (gold edition), am still playing it sometimes because it doesn't have arma 3 drawbacks, first played scenarios, then made mission and learned scripting, and last making addons to the game. Theses games are just unique. i'm never bored with it like other games. Am still making assets and remaking old mission from arma 1 to arma 3.
    As you said making believeable addons is very hard, sometimes you have to start from scratch again because the result is not good enought, it happened to me with the mammoth, i spent lot of hours to build it (by the way thank you for putting it in your vidéo).

    You make some great points. One issue we've run into re: support vehicles not being utilized is the limited amount of time you have to run an operation with 30+ people. You can get 2 to 3 hrs but after that you start losing people. Doing a full turnaround to repair, rearm and refuel a vehicle can take 15 or 20 minutes not including transit time to and from the battlefield. So on bigger maps you can spend 30-40 minutes or more trying to coordinate a turnaround on a vehicle, not including you briefing, gear up or deployment phases. While realistic its not really practical to do so. There are no solutions to the realism vs practicality so the best we've been able to do is come up with alternatives and compromises that keep the player base engaged and as happy as possible.

    Just yesterday we were playing Antistasi with five friends. I was manning a drone, three were assaulting a town, and far away we had a guy operating a mortar.
    I gave orders to the assault team and informed them of the threats going towards them. Those three ended up fending off a force fifteen times their size. The mortar provided support and we got the upper hand through clear communication, sensible use of fire support, and teamwork.
    After that we kinda forgot all about tactics and zerg rushed an AAF base to farm armored vehicles. We got some good Greenback loot out of it, and changed the balance of power between our forces.

    3D editor and Zeus, were probably the biggest game changers for Arma 3. Without those, I don't think the game would have had such staying power.

    I LOVED Arma III ...played few hundred hours and spent tons on time in the editor. But since I play exclusively in single player, the AI just burned me out day after day until the day I stopped playing. I am playing the serie since Operation Flashpoint, so yeah I am an older dude. I feel like the AI never change since that release. Put a strong AI in Arma III and this game would be a second life to me. If Arma 4 ever shows up, please Bohemia rethink that AI system entirely and use the environment as much as you can :) Great video Viper1Zero ... amazing actually!

    Zeus and editor where you can make your own missions. Not to mention mods that can make your game even better. The amount of things you can do in ARMA is just amazing. First that got me into series was Operation Flashpoint Cold War Crisis. The whole map is open to you to complete your mission and you can replay it all over again, finding new ways to complete it or try different choices that hold different endings or impact on campaign. If you have money it is worth it to buy. But if you are a bit short just wait for sale, i got it on sale with Apex edition, and i have no complaints it is worth it.

Hell, I am currently spending about 500+ dollars on a PC simply for Arma... ArmA is a game that seems like it evolves around and tailors simply to its playerbase, which makes it thrive. Its not like EA's games or CoD where the creators only care about making as much money as possible, even if it completely ruins a game/franchise.

    What ArmA series needs, is a killer tune like BF1942 or UnrealTournament 1999.
    It's really a AAA title with great lengths of depth. And the fact that its an old school developer, allowing you to mod it in so many ways, just blows my mind.

    But, the only thing I've always hated about arma, is the sounds. Sound design to me is extremely important, it sets the feeling of the game for me. Hence why squad will always have me hooked.
    But, with the jsrs sound mod alongside the enhanced soundscape, that fixed that for me. If I were the play just the base game, those 2 mods would be all that's needed to keep me there.

Maybe something a little more beautiful within the Aegean Sea, like Santorini. I'm a sucker for pretty water if you couldn't tell. Factions wise, I think a more blended NATO instead of just US troops and 2 Brits would be cool. As for OPFOR, I think China would be a good match.
