Most important rule: The most dangerous thing you can encounter in Arma is the Z-axis. Stairs, hills, ramps and scaling rocks are all deadly

Ah yes, during my first time I spent almost an hour in the Arsenal just to make myself look operator as fucc only to get clapped by a CSAT private, I’m pretty sure we all went through this during our first times in Arma
We've all been clapped from 3km out by the advanced AI with a pistol.

heres a big tip i found, always run up and down hills sideways cos the gamedoesnt count that as going up or down hill so your stamina doesnt get drained

@@Viper1Zero i know alot of people hate armas stock stamina but i actually dont mind it, once you figure out how it works and how to manage it it becomes quite fun, its also a big balancing factor to stop everyone loading themselves down with body armour, supplies and a heavy gun covered in attachments

when i first started i didn't knew HOW ZOOM WORKS, i played the first 3 hours of the campaign shooting with ironsights without zooming at all, imagine my suprise when i found out

Funny, I went through my first few games not using iron sights because I only knew holding was to zoom and thought you just couldn't aim down irons

@@potto1488 I just bought the game and I learned about how the zoom works right away only because I have previous experience on scum which also has the same aim mechanics
I have 420 hours (not a meme) and i just figured out how to use X20 magnifiaction instead of X5
The best tip i can give for a new player : arma is a SANDBOX, you can make the game exactly how you want it to be. There's a lot of differents game mode, PvP to PvE , solo, multiplayer of course. Arma can be repulsive at first because you will say "ok and now, what shall i do ?" , there's no defined game mode like in call of duty or battlefield where 95% of players are going in. You have to CHOOSE which one you want, so don't be shy and try differents things, differents servers and may be one day you'll find a server and a game mode and say "hey i like this one and this is fun !" and there you go. So you have to find your own fun, that's exactly how arma is supposed to be. I can only recommend playing with friends, and my most played gamemode is Liberation, if you're curious just take a look ! See you on the battlefield private
Definitely this. I'm a coop guy myself, running a small unit and playing our custom missions together. We aren't into PvP. But there's plenty of role play, king of the hill, invade & annex and other game modes.
Whoever says "Arma should be played this way..." is really, really wrong and hasn't understood the concept of "sandbox"

I play ArmA 3 since autumn 2014 and after all this time, the whole game got 10 times better. Even the vanilla game with the Eden Editor or the many new mods
The one tip I have to share is this. Never expect any mission or simulation in the game easy. Just like Squad, you’ll need people to help you if you are new to the game or stay in the bootcamp portion of the game or editor until you get used to the combat the game has.

I always explain that ARMA is really just a sandbox which allows people to make or play different multi and single player missions. Mods well explained 👍
I’m thinking of getting ARMA 3, though I’m a bit put off by the realism, as the only realistic shooter I’ve ever played is RS2.
@@f-35enjoyer59 Watch plenty of gameplay videos to see if its your kind of thing. Its not for everyone. Squad is a less realistic alternative

It’s funny that we never stop learning how arma iii works. I have like 1000 hours and I still learn new things - whether it is a control key or aspect of the game.
It mostly happens by accident but still...
I'm 2700 hours in and still learning as well. I've learned things from people's comments and I'm just like holy shit.

Gosh, I only learned that R could be used to lock on hostile radar contacts only when I had about 2400 hours

@@status_data So scrolling through the controls you learn a lot about what you can do, I have my arrow keys set up to make those 2km runs less painful with a bit of auto runs.
If you’re new but want to play multiplayer give co-operative mode a try with servers like 77th JSOC which contain a bunch of people who are happy to help new players. Love Arma and nice video man x

@@Vulces Ryzen 5 6 core 5.9ghz processor, 32gb ram, and an outdated Radeon Rx550.. but you know how it is with GPUs now. This game should run though, because I'm playing destiny 2 at a steady 40fps and ARMA wouldn't even install without crashing.

One thing people need to know is that you can search multiplayer servers from the launcher and automatically download all the mods you need for the server you choose. Easy. Otherwise its a huge pain.
Someone else pointed that out as well, that is a great tip.
Man, I've got 1700 hours on this game now but some of this stuff I didn't even learn until I had a couple hundred hours. I definitely wish you were around to make this video when I first started playing. On the other hand, it was a fun experience finding out and learning all of these things and applying them in scenarios and campaigns. I believe a healthy balance of tips and tricks and learning by yourself is great for Arma 3

If I had to give a tip, for someone who bought ARMA for the realism aspect when it comes to a millitary simulation, You have to give the Milsim community a chance, It's some of the funnest shit. You have to find a good community, and you'll have a blast.

Finally ordered my first gaming PC, got the 3080 and should be here next month. Very excited to get into DCS and this, as more friends are open to playing this, than a full sim like DCS.
@Exhithronous to be honest... been playing DCS and other games, I couldn't get my buddies to play ArmA so it has just been sitting in my library. But DCS is awesome.

Joking aside great video. Was looking for more information on basic tips to survive and get better, like the tips about crouching and laying to the side, but I definitely appreciate all the info! Once I get better at the basics I'll definitely be diving more into everything the game has to offer
Very nice Viper. In 20 minutes you managed to cover almost everything that new players should like to know.
In the editor, You can spawn in DLC aircraft directly through the menu and fly it just skipping a pop up of not owning the DLC. You can fly until you are in the aircraft
The editor let's me use and spawn any DLC items I want, but it puts up pop ups to convince me to get the DLC.

Nice video once more. Suggestion: at the loadout part, I was expecting to hear how much ideally to carry because some beginners don't know that carrying a big gun and lots of ammo or items inside a backpack weighs soldiers down and increases fatigue.
Great suggestion and tip! Weight matters! Although I'm sure a lot of them will end up downloading the mods to remove stamina because damn, your dude would absolutely fail a PT test with the endurance they have lol

About plane gamplay and view distance, I would really recommend getting mod that changes view distance depending on vehicles etc., for example, when you are on foot your view distance is small, when you are in ground vehicle your view distance is a little bit bigger, and when you are in plane or heli your view distance is huge

Hey Viper1zero.. if you want to check out a mod that has the detail of a completely separate game yet highly underrated, pick up the veteran mod off of steam.
It has a huge array of great looking models of nearly every gun used in todays battlefield (including almost every AK variant ever). All the guns have a safety mode. also the iron sight are wonderfully simulated with the two moving independently like on a real gun and not just glued perfectly to the center. the recoil is also extremely good. on top of that you have the variety of ammo types. The Pistols are shockingly good, its almost hard to describe they actually feel like real handguns in terms of their 7 + meter accuracy and recoil (speaking from personal experience)
also great looking optics that are super advanced... for example a few have illuminated reticles... the scope specifically meant for the PKM and PKP machine guns has a reticle that moves accordingly when you shift the ranging. most of the scopes are 3d models that your character actually looks down (not PIP but not 2d either. there are a few exceptions that are 2d such as longer range scopes most of which are 2d, but I can see this changing considering it is still WIP) also the thermal scope is downright impressive, you can change the caliber and color filters it is pretty cool.
There are not a lot of vehicles however there are likely more that will be added (WIP) however the ones that are in are very impressive, if you are using the marine LAV you can see the dial on the bushmaster cannon works, also the recoil effects vehicles differently (ie a techi with a 14 millimeter canon will shake the car in the direction the gun is pointed away from.) the MI-8 helicopter while you cant open the rear doors you can open the rear emergency exit as the rear gunner. but the sounds and handling on it are incredible. some sounds on some of the mounted turrets and mounted rockets are not spectacular and just stock sounds but the couple that are finished sound AMAZING (missile wizzing, nice explostion sounds etc)
also in terms of mechanics this mod is a complete overhaul like ACE, but more tame (no annoying buzzing noise after 1 magazine of fire) it has a more advanced medical system suppression and (i may be wrong) movement system. overall this is a direct and very good competitor to the ACE and RHS combo definitely worth the pick up... the mod is as i stated WIP but that just means it gets better from there

The thing I hate about Arma3 guides is they're usually long-winded, tell you obvious stuff, dont tell you want you want to know, or are just plain-old useless.... except this one. This is one of (if not the only) Arma 3 How-To videos that was actually super useful, and didn't waste time with unnecessary info, Fucking-Bravo good sir! Bra-fucking-vo!

new tip, video , how to use personal arsenal in game, key to initiate in game or how my different ways to start it up, how to add different packs and how to pack and sort the different items for bdu, jackets , slings and carryall backpacks etc and what is best to take in each item type. Most videos tend to gloss over a lot of these topics and talk about them only in the editor and not while your in game and gearing up.

I found many things that you said but if had known that it would have saved me a shit ton of work! @@Viper1Zero I had known all the stuff with the leception from the leaning thing I searched for that shit for a long time and there are videos of that but they are like an hour long or not the topic i searched for as an example I still don't know how to use the radio or how to let your Ai do the things you want the little things that you need the most
18:42 Another option i use is MRB Vehicle Visibility, that mod allows you to set your object view distance down, yet you will still see vehicles as long as they are inside your terrain visibility

I love it. At first I was a headless lost kitten. I just kept going servers until things fell into place and started making sense. Even in my short time of playing I’ve had matches that have surpassed anything in my over 2 decades of playing war games.
I just got the game (its still downloading currently). i bought the base game not the apex edition because, i thought i only wanted the game and the jets and the helicopter dlc since its cheaper. idk ill see if a truly need the apex edition or im just fine with those two dlcs

I've also definitely failed to fully exit foliage before lasing my bomb target before...
My hot tip (650 hours played) is ALWAYS traverse elevation changes (stairs, rocks, steep slopes, etc) standing up. Not crouched, and definitely not prone. For some reason, that's just asking the engine to wedge you in between polygons and decide that you've been killed by crush physics.
Just really starting to get into Arma. How is the vehicle arsenal useful to players if it's only use able in the editor?

Additionally to the Mods Tip - The best tip I give to people is unless you plan on doing Vanilla ArmA 3 - Make sure you have about 100 GBs free for the 250 Plus Mods you eventually will subscribe to.

You forgot the most important thing for close combat movement. Its dubble C it keeps your gun ready to fire all the time when not spriting, making the time you have to wait when without dubble C obsulete. 90% Of the playerbase doesnt use it for some reason. Its like the first hand rule of being a good player. Sneek gun raised, jog gun raised and sprint. No inbetween. It safed me a million times and gave me the advantage over the enemy

i want to tell that to the people who want to download mod.if you download and enable too much mod it will start to use your ram alot and this is from my experience playing arma and ravenfield so i definetly recommend to use 32gb of ram if you want to have more mods.i recommend disabling the mod that you rarely use
So like I got arma today and I want to join a online server cuz I wanna hear the brrtt and the realistic shooter experience but I don’t have any dlcs and every time I wanna play death match or any other quick play thing but it doesn’t work so I tried to join a server still can’t find any do I need the dlcs to find a good server or did I waste my money and should gotten squad?

Yes and the last is the most important. This game set out to be big and combined armes, when in reality the engine is so old it is just not possible at a reasonable fps.

Do you use any post processing stuff? Your game looks way more colorful then vanilla arma and I really like it, kinda want my game looking like that
Nope! What I do is I turn up my saturation to 120 (default 100) which helps the visuals pop a little more. Some color quality is lost when uploading to TH-cam so this also helps correct that
ALSO, download ANZACSAS Stevens Reduced Haze mod. Gets rid of that distant fog and really helps visuals pop.

probably the best tip, put your view distance at the the same value as: max items/objects draw distance.
its 2042m distance or something.
this is vital for spotting targets, if your view distance is any lower, they can spot you!, before you can spot them.
Object view distance and TOTAL view distance are two independent sliders. You can see a TOTAL view of as far as you want with setViewDistance 1234567;
Object view distance is how far out object will appear WITHIN your total view distance.
