  • The Venice family is suing Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital for hundreds of millions for alleged malpractice and false imprisonment. The story of Maya Kowalski and her family is the subject of the Netflix documentary "Take Care of Maya."
The documentary, released back in June, details the family's harrowing experience and the tragedy that followed after Maya was taken away from her family amidst accusations of child abuse and Munchausen syndrome by proxy.
The Kowalski family's story began in October 2016. Maya's parents, Jack and Beata, drove from their home in Venice to the emergency room after their then 10-year-old daughter was experiencing excruciating pain. They said the pain was from debilitating Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and that Maya was receiving doses of ketamine as part of her medical treatment as recommended by specialists.

part of the problem is the hospital thinking ketamine was the worst thing you could prescribe to a child for medical treatment but yet at the same time those exact doctors write scripts for xanax, adderall, ritalin, oxycodone, vicodin, and a bunch of other opioids like it's no problem at all

One of those drs was mine and they don’t prescribe those other things bc they specialize in crps and pain management and often have a specialty in anesthesia and pain relief

She was almost walking when her mother was alive, and regardless of the hospitol miss diagnosed her and then fraudulently billed for a condition, they said she didn't have

I hope the family gets millions of dollars. CRPS for 26 years, they’ve been using ketamine as treatment for this for at least 25 years. Back in the day, some of us researched going to Germany for a treatment where we would be put in a ketamine coma for a month to help reboot the brain. I didn’t do it but a woman from support group did and found relief. Most drs don’t know what CRPS is so the family already had that against them.

I have crps and have gotten ketamine infusions and unless u have crps you can’t imagine that even 1% pain relief feels like so much more relief bc ur so desperate. My pain goes from a 13 to a 2 after ketamine.

I have been through this I am not home condition. My goodness but I have been through and I go through the pain doctor crap where they give you shit they make you feel ashamed and embarrassed and like you’re an addict and it’s so sad this poor baby and this judge is corrupt in this defense I get that that’s their job, but they don’t need to be trash bags.

Doctors are supposed to help, but with-holding treatments can directly contravene the hippocratic oath. Drugs like psilocybin, MDMA, ketamine etc. can help people.

A couple of individuals are destroying the reputation of this hospital, and it's not the Kowalski family, imo. It's their pathetic defense that adds insult to injury.

It’s not a rare treatment. It helps a lot…. If you can’t get pain from 100 to 10 you’re better. She was better with ketamine…

Interesting she’s walking fine now. If her mother was still alive she would still be in that wheelchair or maybe even dead.

I have a medical problem too, sometimes I’m fine, sometimes need a 4 wheel walker and sometimes a wheelchair. Her mother said she has periods of remission . She also had a relapse 2 years ago, I don’t think her mother did anything but fight for her daughters right. She was already diagnosed by another hospital it’s just John Hopkins disagreed with the treatments. I need ketamine infusions for my condition too, it’s a horrid drug but under medical supervision it can break a pain cycle .

😂 her mother was textbook Munchausen and was being investigated for falsifying prescriptions. Stop being so gullible, the Netflix documentary left a lot out. The mother was mentality ill and now they’re trying to get a pay day.

How did this inexplicable circumstance get standing to sue when Maya became a Ward of the Court due to her mother's insane behaviour, illegal treatment sought and performed in Mexico: danger her mother put her in, and Maya's complicity due to her desire to please mom: regardless of if level of pain unbearable, cocktail of pain meds made it impossible for patient to experience it. Moreover, Pray Kowalski's fail in their "Get Rich Quick Scheme" that would set precedent that would result in any defective parent [munchauser, hypocondriac, gettind back at X spouse who is responsible for medical cost] whose level of insanity only pales in comparison to Covert Narcissism-sociopath personality who takes their daughter suffering with severe stomach pain to the highest-rated childrens hospital in the Nation, refuses medical staff legally-required procedures including close examination and testing; in fact, refuses staff to even touch Maya: But demand child be admitted and patient be infused with inexplicable high dosage of dangerous drug. Behaviour so alarming Court protection required. WHAT MORON would see this any other way.

@@Nautilus1972 She's right tho. The mother did this and when she realized she lost total control over her daughter (what mothers with Munchausen by proxy CRAVE) she took the cowards way out and left her family broken. Yall acting as if there were no warning signs from the mother when there was. She was dr shopping, going from hospital to hospital to get drugs for her kid and not following through with outpatient physical therapy. The poor girl was so doped up she wasnt walking and when she was out of her ketimine she went into full blown heavy duty WITHDRAWALS AT 10 YEARS OLD!!! Thats why she was in pain. Withdrawals are no joke and the amount of ketimine she was on was enough to knock an adult out for surgey. And when they ran out of the meds she always had a "relapse" of CRPS. Hmmm... i wonder why??? Dopesick?? At 10?? Yep!
