This is possible but it takes skill or practice if you have little or no experience soldering. If you can afford a new unit it’s certainly worth the time you save…
Thanks for the video. It was very helpful! I had the exact same issue where a couple of the LED lights were not working on my 2019 Colorado. Definitely not something you would expect to happen on a vehicle with only 50k miles. The only issue I had was with that blue cable. I ended up breaking the connector locking tab trying to "gently" release it with a small flat blade screwdriver. It still works fine without the locking tab and the connector seems to fit pretty tight even without it. Hopefully it stays working.
great video , helped me . I just replaced my climate control mod. That blue cable was a pain to disconnect. I sat in passenger seat and leaned over center console, instead of laying on floor like you did. The rest wasn't bad. Thanks for video
Thanks for this this . After i took the 4 screws off the Panel seemed so tight that i did not want to force off but now i see there are just clips holding it in
I followed your lead. In my 2019 Canyon, there were little white safety clips holding the tabs that you push to get the harness plugs out. Had to pull them before you could push the tabs.
@@CamaroChris To me, you do, at least at the beginning of the video. Nothing wrong with that. Thanks for the video. I have a Colorado with 44k, and little things are beginning to crap out on it.. Yesterday, my cooling fan ran the whole hour I drove around, and continued to run for 5 minutes after I turned it off, so I disconnected the battery. What do you expect for $40k..
@@brandonkeller4lol I’m not offended. I think that’s kinda funny, I’ve never heard it before. You know you aren’t the first person I’ve heard have an issue like that with the fan. Maybe cooling fan switch? I’ll investigate, maybe put up a video in the future on it…
Appreciate the help, Chris. I did some reading on it last night, and it sounds like a simple enough fix. My pickup is still under warranty, so I’ll be taking it in this coming week.
I thought this might be the cause of my heater not working. I was wrong but at least the led works now lol. That first connector is a pain in the ass if you haven’t done one before. Had to use a tiny flat head and work on it kneeling from the passenger seat.
Mine was IOR model and had 2 additional plugs but I was able to pop the cable clamps loose and replaced without unplugging anything then pushed clamps back in
I have 5 lights out on my 2019 Colorado with fewer than 40,00 miles. The dealer quoted me $145 just for the module therefore I just decide to live with it. After seeing this video, I may consider trying this myself. My only concern is that the lights will start burning out again over the next couple of years.
I have a tool for keeping computer memory when disconnecting the battery. Any reason not to use it for this repair. Is that unit even powered with key off. Although I guess there might be power in the vicinity.
So my 15 Colorado is getting squirrelly with the AC switch. It shows the light like it’s on but isn’t unless I push the button really hard. Then it’s on until I change the fan speed which might cut it off. I wanna change the module like you did. Thanks for the video. I looked at Rock auto and there are several versions of these things. How did you know which one to order? Did you have to open your truck read the back of the part and then order? Thanks dude you’re saving my bacon.
I had my truck in for a service several years ago. The service writer pointed that a light was out. They wanted $500 to replace that thing. I did not fall for that. How much is that part?
Rockauto shows part with number you gave but your big round buttons are different than mine. I don't have auto heat on right. Just manual. I think my left button is just manual fan . Lol I better look at it tomorrow.
Great video! Gives me an insight on how to get inside the dashboard on these vehicles. Have a 2017 Canyon and am not going to dump good money to the dealer to fix this crap.
Has anyone tried to take one of these apart, to see what is happening? Both mine and my friend’s truck, both 2019 Colorados ( his top end, mine lower end) have the same blown light issues. Curious to see inside, assuming that they are LEDs soldered into place….? Chris, if you still have the old one, break it apart. Thanks
Mine went bad after only 3 years. The cost to get this fixed/replaced was ridiculous. The cost that manufacturers are charging for vehicles-this type of stuff should not being going bad after a few years. What’s worse, this is the forth unusual item that has needed to be replaced on a 2019 Colorado, with less than 60,000 miles on it. Hey Chevy/GM, is the quality of your vehicles really as good as you claim it is? Maybe you should rethink that!
I’m pretty sure this is the second time it’s been replaced on mine. RockAuto sells the original ACDelco part for $85 before tax and shipping, and it’s a quick 15 minute job. Help save a little $$
Make sure you vote on the "right to repair" act. Or the dealers will be the only place allowed to fix your vehicle. No body is being informed about this!

I always disconnect - it should keep its memory. I just err on the side of caution as you never want to short something and blow up your computer. Will it happen? Probably not…but better safe than sorry lol
Thanks for this! I have 3 bulbs out on the same module so now I know I have to change the whole deal.
try resoldering the led connections.

Great video. I was able to replace the climate control module on my 2018 Colorado in less than 30 minutes.
I've had two of my lights burned out for at least two years now... Good to know its an easyish fix if I ever really want to get to it.
It wasn’t bad at all. I guess it just depends if a couple burnt out bulbs are worth $100 or so for you…
Did this replacement today...thanks for the help :)

Had 3 go out on me, an chevy would not replace it again. Chevy knows this is a issue!

Thanks for the video. Great GM feeling. My Canyon has the same issue. So after this kind of stuff. Would you buy a GM EV?

Yeah - it just depends on what options came with your truck. You’ll have to verify your part
What is the control module # and how much did it cost? Thanks.
Described in the video around 7 minutes
Where did you get that plastic removal tool from? Thanks!
I honestly can’t remember. Maybe eBay? You can get them on eBay, Amazon, or an auto parts store like O’Reilly
Harbor freight has a nice kit cheap.
