2015-2022 2nd Gen Chevy Colorado GMC Canyon Drive Sway Bar End Link and Bushing Replacement
Remember to like and subscribe for more videos, and to help me continue making them!
In this video I show how I removed and replaced the sway bar and end links on my 2018 Chevy Colorado Z71 4WD with the 3.6L. Sometimes vibrations, excessive sway, or rattling noises from under the truck can be caused by a faulty sway bar or worn bushings and end links. I assume this method would be the same for all 2nd gen (2015-2022) Colorados, GMC Canyons, and even most vehicles assuming differing clearances and socket sizes. Verify application for your vehicle.
Hopefully you find this video helpful! Feel free to discuss what has or hasn’t worked for you in the past.

Thanks for the video. I have this problem and you made it look easy enough to try it myself. However, I ran out of daylight/time this evening trying get the gasket out (the bank 2 P0019 side). It's baked on there. Did you run into this problem on either gasket? You just used the screwdriver to pry it off on both?
It seemed stuck in there to me too, but there was a sweet spot where I just popped the gasket out. I’d just caution care so you don’t scrape up where the gasket seats. Also I believe there’s a small ring embedded in the gasket to help it keep its shape, so it’s not super malleable like your typical gasket...
Great video. I was able to replace the climate control module on my 2018 Colorado in less than 30 minutes.
Good stuff C Chris
Nice job
In canada dealer charged me 35 fot the ac filter. A small order from rockauto gets me same filter for 6 cdn even with shipping
Thank you for video. Well done. Where did you get your torque specifications for everything? And the tightening sequence for intake manifold? Would be great if you added that info in description for others. Thanks again!

Thanks 👍
That connector you remove at 3:53 is different on my truck, and I cant seem to get it off. Once the clip is slid out there is nothing there to squeeze because it's now buried by the clip. Fuck I hate GM! Yup, the connectors are quite different than the ones you deal with. Again, I hate GM!
Hey Chris, thanks for the video. I did my VVT exhaust solenoids today. Since I had it all apart I went ahead and did the spark plugs too.
I would double check that it is clicked in all the way before the red tab is clicked in. Also ensure that both connections are intact and don’t have cracks.
@CamaroChris I went out and looked at it again. I didn't put a screw back in on the engine cover because it was striped. With out it, it was sucking air in through the screw hole.
I had a mouse nest in my air cleaner housing. I wish to remove the box but can't. I removed the 2 10mm nuts but something else is holding the box down? Any ideas?
Thanks for the video. Great GM feeling. My Canyon has the same issue. So after this kind of stuff. Would you buy a GM EV?
Thank You for the Video, what a pain, next time will be easier. I had the error code and the A/C problem so I changed my thermostat and the sensor since it was right there. Problem solved all set. Great video, much appreciation for you!!!
Always glad to hear stories like this! Glad it helped.
So my 15 Colorado is getting squirrelly with the AC switch. It shows the light like it’s on but isn’t unless I push the button really hard. Then it’s on until I change the fan speed which might cut it off. I wanna change the module like you did. Thanks for the video. I looked at Rock auto and there are several versions of these things. How did you know which one to order? Did you have to open your truck read the back of the part and then order? Thanks dude you’re saving my bacon.
Honestly I Googled the part numbers available on RockAuto and just compared pictures to what I had in my truck. It seemed to work out…
Rockauto shows part with number you gave but your big round buttons are different than mine. I don't have auto heat on right. Just manual. I think my left button is just manual fan . Lol I better look at it tomorrow.
Yeah - it just depends on what options came with your truck. You’ll have to verify your part
Probably bezel off before to replace the ghosting, freezing display.
I have a tool for keeping computer memory when disconnecting the battery. Any reason not to use it for this repair. Is that unit even powered with key off. Although I guess there might be power in the vicinity.
I always disconnect - it should keep its memory. I just err on the side of caution as you never want to short something and blow up your computer. Will it happen? Probably not…but better safe than sorry lol

@@gadasavideos8564 my ball joints are fine and I haven’t touched them. I’m not the original owner though, so maybe the PO had done them? I don’t think so though…
That part you couldn't identify, it's the Evaporative Emission Cannister Purge Solenoid Valve
Did you end up changing out the VVT solenoid, all mine look like they need a little help I don't know if it's the seals or the vtt itself.
I do that in another video, without removing the intake. If you need it you can do it while it’s out. Not much easier
My bottom right screw/bolt was already loose exactly like yours was. Imagine that?
Well that’s odd…
What is the model number of the new AC delco alternator please
Part numbers are on the box shown at the front of the video.
Will do this tomorrow with my 2017 Canyon 3.6 V6 while watching on my laptop. Once you get the intake off what is the best way to clean the debris without anything at all falling in?
Vacuum with attachment and a little extra care is how I did it.
What are the two sensors in the front? I thought they were in the front

Anything special about replacing that idler wheel on the passenger wheel? Looks just like the tensioner wheel.
Question did the New spark plugs and coils work well with the car being they were a different Brand name from the oem that you replaced?

EXCELLENT THANKYOU SO TO THE POINT AND SO WELL UNDERSTANDABLE AND gave me the motivation to run out and buy my own tools and do it myself yes it a easy job however your video makes a person that’s hesitant to do it want it do it THANKS! Will Be following you I own a 08 CTS 3.6

I've had two of my lights burned out for at least two years now... Good to know its an easyish fix if I ever really want to get to it.
It wasn’t bad at all. I guess it just depends if a couple burnt out bulbs are worth $100 or so for you…
My sil got his westin from rockauto for half the price I paid for the ones already put on my 18 colorado by dealer
Thanks very much for making this video. I actually had my laptop in the garage and followed your instructions exactly. I had a little trouble with the electrical connectors but I appreciate you showing how to properly release them. Most of all thanks for saving me money!
Oh man - I’ll take mine to a shop for an estimate whenever I decide I’m going to be lazy and have someone else do the work. The best motivation is when they tell me a job is going to cost over $1000. Every time I think, well, guess I’m doing that too! Glad it helped!!!

I'm watching this video as I do the steps as shown. I got the P0300 / P0302 on my 2020 Colorado V6. It's only got 76k miles but I think I push-flooded the plugs by putting too much oil in her. Hoping I don't gotta do all the gaskets and seals too. I'm not exactly what I would call a mechanic. What could possibly go wrong? I'm about to take off the manifold~
Fuuuuck. The 4" extension fell to the side on that last captured bolt in the back back. I even taped the socket onto the end to make sure IT didn't fall off. The whole extension slipped sideways off the nut. Gotta dig up a powerful magnet or something. Any suggestions?
You got this!
No suggestions. Grab the magnet ha. You can buy the telescoping one
How many miles did you have on the truck ?
Just shy of 100,000
I had my truck in for a service several years ago. The service writer pointed that a light was out. They wanted $500 to replace that thing. I did not fall for that. How much is that part?
$100 on RockAuto
I know this is about the location of the cam sensors, and you're doing God's work helping other DIY'ers save a bunch of cash, but I'd love to suggest just replacing all 4 and then the 4 VVT solenoids on the front of the covers. This is a very common set of codes that pop at around 50K miles and when one goes out, the others are just as well ready to fail as well. The Cam sensors are affordable IMO at around $15ea at the dealer or basically anywhere you can get 'em. I got one cam sensor from GM and it's an AC Delco part while the VVT solenoids are "GM". The VVT solenoids being changed may shock some when you see them for $70ea, but you can currently get GM brand replacements for $32 on Rock Auto which may soften the blow on those a bit. If I had the cover off to replace a cam sensor, I'd personally do all 4 sensors for sure. At the same time though, I'd go ahead and start buying some VVT solenoids and doing those at the same time if it's in your budget to do so, or just have one or two spare ready to go if you're anywhere around 50K miles. Pop the hood and look around those 4 front sensors. If you see some oil starting to gather just right around those things, they're trash and need pulled out. Everything needed to do this is the ever elusive 10mm. You MUST do an oil change if a P0021 or P0024 code pops and you replace the solenoid(s). There's a screen in there and a ball bearing some engineer thought was cool to have, and those can just disappear from the stupid thing and wander around in your engine. On about half of these VVT failures I've seen, the screen is just gone and I THINK the screen is also acting as the seat of the valve to rest on and not fall into the engine. No screen? There's your wandering bearing. TL/DR: Replace all 4 sensors and all 4 VVT solenoids. Dealerships want a major butt load of money to do this fairly easy task. If you have a warranty still, have them do it. And don't take any of this "you didn't use Dexos oil" crap if you change your own oil.
I already have a video showing all 4 VVTs being replaced. I’ll change the camshaft sensors when I need to. These aren’t tough jobs. I’ve done these so many times it’s an afternoon‘s work for me. But yes, I don’t disagree…
First
🤣
24mm socket for oil filter. 15mm socket for oil plug. 5w-30 oil. 6 quarts.

I’m getting a p0017 camshaft position bank 1 sensor B. Is that the exhaust or intake sensor on bank one? I have a 2018 Chevy Colorado! Any info would be appreciated
The P0017 can be a real PITA to actually nail down, but P0017 is Exhaust/Bank 1 with P0016 being intake/Bank 1. The AC Delco are $13ea on Rock Auto so I'd just do both or even all 4 Just to rule all of those out. Just lost one and only one code? Wait 4,000 miles and another is ready to commit sewer slide. The real fun comes when you replace all four and P0017 comes back after clearing. It's a damn mess at that point.
Before you replace the solenoids check this first. I ran across this comment on another video. On your display go to vehicle and scroll to the display showing voltage. Mine was showing 12.6 volts. I cleaned the battery terminals and the display shows 14.7 volts like it did in the past. The check engine light went out and has not come back on since. The P0019 code seems to be common on the 3.6 and I am curious if that voltage drop is what triggers that code.
Thanks for the advice, I got check engine light code P0024, I was about to disassemble everything in order to get to the sensors but then checked your comment and also somewhere else I saw someone suggesting the same thing. I checked my battery terminals and my negative post was corroded. I then enabled the battery voltage info on the diplayed and it was showing 11.8V, I then cleaned the negative terminal and post and it jumped to 12.6v, started the engine and then went up to 14.5v and then when shut off the engine it stayed at 12.5v, so I guess the corroded negative terminal was my issue. Now I will drive it a few miles now and hope the light does not comes on again.
@@alejandromadera3895 Hello I just wanted to get back to you because I had the issue again. I remember someone saying to check the oil so I did. It was at the correct level but it was pretty filthy and smelly. I did do a lot of sitting and idling this past month. the oil life indictor was close to 50%. I changed the oil and filter then drove down to gas it up and when I restarted it the check engine light was out. I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not but only time will tell. I am sitting here looking at the parts but if I don't have to put them in that would be great. I hope you are not having any problems and everything is working like it should.
Does translate to Canyon. Same engine, same set up. Thanks for size on socket for oil filter. Have 4x4. There are 2 skid plates. Bolts are also 15 mm. There are 6 bolts. The plates share 2 bolts back of plate/guard for radiators, front for plate/guard for oil pan. The plate for the oil pan is heavy. Mind your head.
You are the first person I've watched that knows how to properly remove the electrical connectors😃
I appreciate your saying that. One of the biggest reasons I focus so much on them is because so many videos and how-tos just breeze by that part, but they aren’t that intuitive, especially when they’re hard to see/reach. Glad it’s helpful! :)
Radiator replacement which I don’t see.
I don’t have a radiator replacement video
That thing on the back right side is the Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Solenoid Valve. Also, you're supposed to tighten the intake manifold from the center bolts and work your way out to the outside bolts. In a criss cross pattern. Good video other wise.
Thank you!! :)
great video thx fyi your throattle body was super clean!!!!!
So when removing this cover the front and passenger side are T25 bolts and the back one I have no idea what it is. 10mm is too small. But nothing else will fit down inside.
Then someone didn’t put the original bolts back in… I don’t know what you have, but it’s definitely not stock…
