It took years of constant research, analysis, and pin-point platforming on invisible obstacles to reach this level of progress. So what's the next logical discovery to make? How to yeet Jak into the fucking sun at mach 10 by getting too close to a bridge that's having a nervous breakdown!
i absolutely fucking love how you hype up each key player in the progression of these stories. i have no clue who these people are, yet every time i see you introducing a new speed runner im just internally getting hyped as hell.
Technically it wasnt a launch title since it released since it was a late 2001 game. Even though considering the lack of ground breaking games in 2000 excluding Dynasty Warriors 2 it might as well should be considered a launch title since 2001 is where things got mainstream.
Speedrunning is psychologically a very insular community. This is why it can be so toxic when someone goes against the grain (see: Narcissa Wright for example), but also very wholesome and supportive with its own in-group. A new perspective, fresh and outside the box, is often needed. TL;DR: speedrunning communities are a bubble/circlejerk.
dunno how this was recommended to me cos i know nothing about speed running or jak and daxter but i watched the whole thing and was engaged the whole time. quality content man
I truely love the way you format your videos. You could simply make your videos a short story with the end result explained. But I really appreciate and think it is super neat how you explain what the mission or goal is of the game skip, who has attempted it, how the communities react to the results, how you go into the history and accomplishments of the person who discover the skip, and I really enjoy how you add a suspense factor that just keeps me tuned in the whole time. Thanks for awesome videos man! :D
Way back in the day, when we first learned about the glitch in Kingdom Hearts 1 at the final boss Destiny Islands where you can infinite jump out of bounds, my sister and I had a bit of a gag that doing things like that 'angered the video game gods' - and we feared them. But seeing stuff like this today, it is clear: The Glitch Hunters are the true gods of video games, and whatever planar beings my sister and I believed in as children would *COWER* in their presence.
This is by far the most amazing video about Jak and Daxter that I ever saw. Even if I wasn't interested in the game at the time those skips were found I can still kinda imagine how the whole community felt after these discoveries. Without counting the whole route evolution in the speedrun that even changed recently. Very well made video, I really don't have any more words to describe this piece of art
As someone that likes seeing glitches but is not good at finding/using any it always blows my mind seeing the sorts of things people find. Only times I ever got out of bounds in a game (like Battlefield 4, its easy in the story missions) were pointless things that didn't save any time or just got you stuck somewhere lol.

I loved the old community clips and Kuitar's & Ruh's insight. The explanation for all of the checkpoint stuff was very good, overall I think this is easily your best work yet
It’s really gratifying to me that these skips are actually possible because as a kid I threw Jak into the lava of fire canyon dozens of times trying to cheese my way with some sort of completely theoretical infinite damage boost, and for the skip to be exactly that is amazing to me. I correctly theorized an actual speedrun skip as an 8 year old. I also tried to find the other skips mentioned, though I was as unsuccessful as the majority of the community in those cases too.
@@skrtreynolds Good point. Makes me wonder what kind of skips people never really looked for. The only thing that comes to mind is when you discover the skip by sheer accident. Had that experience with Spyro Enter the Dragonfly as a kid, where I just went straight through the elemental breath gates that block off the sections of the hub world.

Can I just take a moment to say thank you for making a documentary about multiple speed runners across multiple games. Your content is impeccable and enjoyable.
you can skip the lava tube power cell now by getting blue eco on the zoomer to skip over the door you have to unlock by shooting the orbs, then maintaining it to the end of lava tube so you can jump off with more speed which allows you to bounce on the top of the door and get over the invisible barrier. then you have to make it far enough into the zone to set your respawn point and die in the void then youll spawn in cidatel. it's significantly faster when coupled with the orb door skip because you dont have to get the power cell or skip the cutscene which is worth the extra time it takes to grab the blue eco in the lava tunnel
