Dude, I’ve been a die hard R&C fan since I got my PS2 in 2005 and played UYA first. It astounds me that there are people who still enjoy this game for what it is and what it means to the community!
I fu**ing loved the first ratchet and clank when I was a kid. It was the biggest leap in graphics I had witnessed at the time, and the fluid motion in the animation was amazing to me. Great memory from my childhood.
I think my favorite type of person is someone who just shows up out of nowhere and solves something or even just posts something funny and just disappears without even asking for anything. They are absolute saints.

I like how you actually explained everything as if nobody knew what the game was. Really helps you take into account everything that's necessary to know the speedrunning shenanigans in Orxon. These kinds of videos are awesome, this actually makes me wanna go back to speedrunning this amazing franchise.
I love these videos. I haven't watched a speedrun in a year and frankly I've lost my interest, but these videos are so much more than just about speedrunning. It's like watching a movie... You really do make every second captivating and interesting.
I'd love to see a follow up to this video. Even if they didn't find anything that works yet. Just another look at things that have been tried and why they didn't work.
I think the key might be in position 3's tower. Maybe theres some iffy collision that might be used for a proxy, or maybe some invisible collision higher up that would let you big jump and glide there. Edit: I have an idea with the elevator! Right when you're about to get launched, just punch! Clank gets a small speed boost, although it would have to be perfectly timed, as it takes a bit of wind up, and, let's be real, it probably wouldnt send you far enough, but it would at least make that part faster and potentially safer if you get the timing down. I think that somebody should make a mod that highlights all pieces of collision. I dont know if this is commonly used, but modders could use that to find the spots where theres invisible or unpredictable collision, then apply that knowledge to speed running.

Doing Veldin 2 with only the helipack is brutal, if thats not enough you fight drek with only 40 bombs and your wrench. Ammo only spawns when you have 3 weapons that use ammo and you below 50%. You get the thrusterpack automaticly in the last phase of drek but its not actualy in your inventory.

Poki Skip might not be a viable speedrun strategy, but it does seem incredibly useful in something like a minimum% challenge run (or something like a wrench-only run so you can skip the fighter segments altogether)

I still remember just how it felt turning my ps2 on after homework to play these masterpieces, and after about 5 years of watching your videos from time to time I still love them, I still thank you for what you do and most importantly for breaking the shit of my childhood most fav games. In the distant past of 2005, I started a new game to test something. I noticed that on Clank's quest for the Infobot, he crosses paths with the Magnet Boots. I wondered if it was possible to bypass the boots and come back for them as Ratchet. Sure enough, you can; you just skirt the edges of the area, and carry on as normal. I got the infobot, got the O2 Mask, and returned to Orxon. And then it happened. I softlocked the game. The path Clank originally took was closed off, and the only path forward available was the vent path...that required the Magnet Boots. I couldn't find an alternative path, and thus I was unable to stop Drek from stopping his nefarious scheme.

I don't care if this would save time or not, but the idea that it could be done at all is interesting. I honestly think speed-running is a stupid way to play a game, "This game is so good I want to experience as little of it as possible." But discovering weird stuff like this for the sake of what you are discovering, and essentially experiencing MORE of what the game has to offer, that's cool. I wish there more more videos about discoveries like this one, even if said discovery still needs work to complete.

If I had to guess, the game probably only checks for the helmet for the first fighter mission. The 2nd and 3rd probably don't cause it's not supposed to be possible to get there without it. That said, the 2nd and 3rd fighter missions are skippable anyway.

Also there use to be a thing where you could jump/swing ratchets wrench and gain the ability to jump a second time against some walls which would allow to land on portions of areas that don't seem like you would normally be able to stand on top of. Generally this was used to get to the very top of tall objects that would sometimes allow you to walk through those objects on the other side that you climbed them as they generally were not built to be solid on some sides of the objects
I got Ratchet and Clank for the PlayStation 4 and thought it was just a remake of the original with a few changes like voice lines and secrets but apparently not. This video makes me want to look into it.

They probably wouldn’t have put the need for it in the game because you’re not supposed to progress to there without the helmet anyway

Also there use to be a thing where you could jump/swing ratchets wrench and gain the ability to jump a second time against some walls which would allow to land on portions of areas that don't seem like you would normally be able to stand on top of. Generally this was used to get to the very top of tall objects that would sometimes allow you to walk through those objects on the other side that you climbed them as they generally were not built to be solid on some sides of the objects

I got Ratchet and Clank for the PlayStation 4 and thought it was just a remake of the original with a few changes like voice lines and secrets but apparently not. This video makes me want to look into it.
