I've finally had the chance to sit down and properly watch this masterpiece in its entirety. Thank you SO much for making this, it's so crazy seeing Sly 2 speedrunning in the spotlight in what basically became a feature length movie! Even I learned something; the earliest history (~pre Coooper/Cuber) of the episode was all unknown to me. Thank you for reaching out, I'm very thankful to be part of this! I gotta say yes, I agree - this is your best work Ricky. Such an amazing video! So many great parts in this, I had forgotten all about my first time with The Chair 🙂 Gonna be watching this one many times over, in the coming months
Absolute marvel of a video Ricky! Congrats on getting it done and putting it out there, honored to be a part of such a project. Cheers to the Sly Cooper and Playstation speedrunning communities!!!
Great video! Never thought how much effort many members of the community put into this episode and I'm glad it's now all documented in a video, thanks a lot for the effort Ricky!
When Dimitri says Show me your bling and let me shine you, he means "tell me what you want and I'll give it to you". Dimitri isn't evil, for a criminal boss, he's very patient with sly and is even willing to help the gang DESPITE the trouble they cause. The only issue is that Dimitri doesn't want to give up the clockwork parts

I was going to say “The Black Chateau” is probably the most iconic episode to casual players too, but after thinking about it for a second, it’d definitely be Jailbreak for obvious reasons to anyone whose played sly 2.

Your editing only becomes more refined and powerful with each video. The Dmitri X hekksu sequence is absolutely masterful, and probably the best I've ever seen in any speedrunning video. I was screaming in hype when it happened. Exceptional work - you're on a roll!
These long-form videos you make on speedrunning topics are so top quality, Ricky. What an amazing video! As a longtime fan of Sly 2, this was so fascinating to me. The editing was so well done and I'm really jealous of how you're able to get those free cam shots.

Not someone who usually comments but wanted to say that the quality of this video is insanely good. Sky is one of my favorites series so seeing this level of effort put in really bring me joy. Keep up the great work!
What an informative, interesting, entertaining, and well researched video! Thanks for the upload. Also, the *shiny* Pokémon sound effect got me at 31:21
Everytime this man posts a video i get really hyped bc ive played so many ps2 games so its nice to see how much people care about them and its interesting how they try to speedrun it. Keep up the great work!
YOOO. Congrats on getting the project finally out Ricky! 10/10 success in all regards. Thank you for this amazing video, thank you on behalf of the community for the spotlight and thank you for making me go down a personal nostalgia filled trip through memory lane!
The speedrun of sly 2 and 3 are more than 1 hour, different to sly 1 that is under an hour, but It doesn´t make the speedrun boring. it´s interesting to see and know more about sly speedrun, and thank for make this video ;)
Even tho i love Sly a lot, i do think 2 and 3 are horrible in terms of speedrun. No major sequence break, no huge skip, almost no big strat, huge time consuming unskippable cutscenes... I think it's one of the longest any% speedgame of the whole PS2 (or probably THE longest). Just basically doing the game normally and the intended way..in order..without any way to skip any job..main time save source being death abuse or reset to save few seconds on unskippable cutscenes... 6 HOURS to beat ANY% on Sly 3. Huge contrast with Sly 1 that i consider absolutely amazing in term of speedruning. I can try to see it as somehow "multiple games speedrun merged into a big one" (episodes) to get that more interesting... I still "love" watching thoses speedruns, since it's still speedruning, and as it's really special and not like the others game, but ngl i don't see what's people are loving running thoses games, i hope a huge sequence break but the way the game is made make it impossible
@@TestTest-pq2ry For me the love of running the game started with the movement, I am a huge stickler with movement. As we advanced the run, the love for breaking the intricate system that holds us back has been the main driving force for me for these past few years. One of those "it's become a challenge, So now I can't put it down" type of things.
@@Zryu323 mh... generally speedrunners break the game and beat it, here i think Sly 2 and 3 (and mostly 3) are ones of the biggest defeat of speedruning history, speedrunners practically can't do anything
this was an awesome video Rixer, thanks so much for creating it and showing off such an interesting story with many intertwining pieces and people! can't wait for your next video
As a norwegian myself who grew up with the ps2 sly games, I can confirm that almost every one of my friends who also had a ps2, also owned sly 2 and/or sly 3
The x2 double attack against guards with square and triangle before they get back up from their damage animation was something I once figured out when I was little and playing Sly 2. It's cool to see speedrunners using it in their runs so many years later lol
i honestly don't know much about speedrunning outside of games like spyro and minecraft as my main 2, but i love watching your videos and explaining games and their strats, it's incredible and i loved this video. didn't even realise i was 50 mins in till i checked because it flew by. have a fantastic weekend after this banger of a video!
June 2022 update: hekksu has been bumped down to second place by a margin of 2 seconds. Some madman named MooshSen is in the lead with a goddamn 26:47. Only he and hekksu currently lay claim to a sub 27. And yes, he did accomplish this using the Fake Floor.
I'm not a speedrunner nor am I very invested in speedrun records but the way you narrate and put your videos together keeps me fully engaged and interested. Keep it up dude! Sly Cooper is one of my favorite games series ever and it makes me happy to see people still talking about it!
Man, your videos are always absolutely S tier. Even though I was a PS2 kid, I actually never had Sly, but this video definitely makes the game look amazing 👀
I'm really glad for this video. Sly trilogy is my favorite among the big bois of PS2, and while I've watched some R&C, and Vice City speedruns, I couldn't get into Sly ones because of the optimization of using the Korean language for faster times, plus the fact that you can't skip cutscenes.
Wow, I'm so used to these speedrun history videos COMOLETELY breaking the game, skipping different amounts of the game. But this game is "this glitch saves 2 seconds... and then Gnist applied this to his run and lowered the record by 1 minute, just by optimizing his run." DAMN. The only real skips are cutscene skips, and it's pretty rare. Suckerpunch put together a SOLID game.
Everyone else: *Does a record run once or twice* Gnist: *Does it like 50000 times the very nanosecond someone either even breathes near or beats his record* That kind of dedication is both admirable and kinda scary, does he even play any other game? Hekksu: SCREW IT LET'S MAKE IT 100000!
if I see anything sly cooper its an instant sub. didnt even have to start watching and I subbed. love the vid bro. okay, now gonna watch it C: EDIT: I am halfway thru, I am BLOWN AWAY dude this video is so good. im loving this so much, got me so nostalgic. the way you piece it all together and play the music from the different sly games got me so excited. I could tell where each song came from lol. love it. EDIT 2: loved it homie. thanks so much! its cool to see that these records have been broken already! currently at 26:47. wow.
This is easily the best speed run documentary I’ve ever watched. Though I may be biased because of my nostalgia for the game. Beautiful editing too! Well earned sub 👍
Amazing job on the video! The only thing I knew about Sly before was that it exists but just being 15 minutes into the video this is incredible. I really enjoy the content you put out and Im always looking forward to it. Keep on going man your videos are awesome!!
39:01 I was today years old when I found this out. My brother got the games pretty late since we were still young when they first released. I forgot how he got the first game but I know he continued buying the series because it had a special place in our hearts and we collectively bonded over it. I was actually surprised later on in life to find out it had a somewhat larger community, that is, everyone around me had no idea about this game series. I’m also surprised to see a speed run for the game.
39:02 What the hell is that cover art! Oh my goodness I'm losing it! After only seeing the north American one my whole life looking at that is surreal.
Amazing video man. Love how something as simple as Episode 1 has so much history behind it, I didn't even expect the competition for Sly to be this fierce.
I've followed the Speedrun for many years and even casually timed myself. I love this game and the fact that things like this video exists makes me happy
Absolute nostalgia trip honestly, its not the first time I watched this, but I came back to it tonight and yeah, great stuff. I really do miss the days of doing nearly daily races with Cuber and Coooper and finding new stuff for optimizations. Game has come a really long way.
I didn't even play this as a kid but the editing is so good, the script is top notch. And the background music choices, oh my! These documentaries are amazing, so please give yourself a pat in the back, you really deserve it c:
I visited my friend who was playing sly 2 and i was absolutely amazed to hear that they not only had finnish subtitles BUT THEY SPOKE FINNISH. Sly 2 really is rare on the available languages being so wholesome
What an amazing video from an amazing game! I rarely put my time to comment on videos even if I like them but now I have to. Been watching your videos for a while now and the effort you put on them is just next level. Keep up the work and keep teaching us about the beauty of Speedrun-world :) I hope for more Sly 2/3 content in the future too
I’ve now watched 2 of your vids (however this one gives me deja vu like I’ve already watched another sly vid by you) and I’m in AWE of how fantastic your story telling and editing skills are. The pans, the music choice, and the perfecting timed cuts, are just amazing man. Keep up the good work man. I look forward to watching more!
I am so glad this showed up in my recomended, Because of the new playstation plus classics catalog I've been able to finally play this series again after almost a decade and this video hit the sweet spot of nostalgia and interest. It warms my heart to see the community that has grown around this series and its speed runs. Thank you and I hope to see you make more content for the Sly series one day! :)
An absolute great piece of work, Ricky. The pacing, the editing, the montages and the voiceover really blends this into a very informative and fun video to watch. Great work! Why isn't this on Netflix yet?

What an amazing video! As a longtime fan of Sly 2, this was so fascinating to me. The editing was so well done and I'm really jealous of how you're able to get those free cam shots.
I got so much nostalgia watching this video. This was the game that got me into gaming 16 years ago when I was a kid. Crazy how fast time flies by.
I lost my mind at the “Black metal fan gathering” section. Lmao
This is such a sick video, and your love for the game/community shows greatly here
Ty doc!
Naaaah man the way you advertised Manscaped with Slim Cognito had me dyinggggg
Super video! I subscribed, Keep it up :)
I played this as a kid, so nostalgic to watch. These documentaries are great, thank you for putting in the hours - definitely you deserve more views, dropping a like and this comment to help your algorithm
Loving all the dates posted next to the records. The chapters on TH-cam really help me slowly pick at this video! Great stuff!
What an AMAZING video!! Thank you so much for making this!
Not someone who usually comments but wanted to say that the quality of this video is insanely good. Sky is one of my favorites series so seeing this level of effort put in really bring me joy. Keep up the great work!
absolutely incredible video, loved it all the way catJAM keep it up, playstation community represent
What an informative, interesting, entertaining, and well researched video! Thanks for the upload.
Also, the *shiny* Pokémon sound effect got me at 31:21
Fantastic video as always, you've blown this out of the park. Go and get some well-deserved rest
I've never known about this game wow this was such a great introduction to me, amazing vid ricky
I still "love" watching thoses speedruns, since it's still speedruning, and as it's really special and not like the others game, but ngl i don't see what's people are loving running thoses games, i hope a huge sequence break but the way the game is made make it impossible
it also doesnt help that unless you live in korea you have to commit a crime to be optimal
@@TestTest-pq2ry horrible take
I like how these runs start out very simple and then evolve to include a bunch of crazy glitches, tech, and tricks
this was an awesome video Rixer, thanks so much for creating it and showing off such an interesting story with many intertwining pieces and people! can't wait for your next video
As a norwegian myself who grew up with the ps2 sly games, I can confirm that almost every one of my friends who also had a ps2, also owned sly 2 and/or sly 3
Three months ago Hekksu reached 26:49
What a FANTASTIC video!! Glad to see the Sly Cooper fanbase holding strong!🥳
Excellent video man, always love to see well-made content on a series i hold very close to me
geeg have my children
The x2 double attack against guards with square and triangle before they get back up from their damage animation was something I once figured out when I was little and playing Sly 2. It's cool to see speedrunners using it in their runs so many years later lol
i honestly don't know much about speedrunning outside of games like spyro and minecraft as my main 2, but i love watching your videos and explaining games and their strats, it's incredible and i loved this video. didn't even realise i was 50 mins in till i checked because it flew by. have a fantastic weekend after this banger of a video!
44:30
Absolutely perfect use of the Sanctuary Guardian meme.
Perfectly foreshadowed, flawlessly executed, 100/100 Keks
Well done.
This is a great example of a perfect video. Good work!
Okay, that montage for hekksu's 2734 is an absolute highlight of this video
Loved watching this on your twitch live, your videos are always so well edited, keep it up man!
June 2022 update: hekksu has been bumped down to second place by a margin of 2 seconds. Some madman named MooshSen is in the lead with a goddamn 26:47. Only he and hekksu currently lay claim to a sub 27. And yes, he did accomplish this using the Fake Floor.
1 hour of unaltered pure speedrunning knowledge, hell pecking yeah
Keep up the great content!
35:53 had me nearly crying laughing LMAO, you've done it once again Ricky! Fantastic vid dude!
Lmao, thanks Josh 😎❤
Wow, I'm so used to these speedrun history videos COMOLETELY breaking the game, skipping different amounts of the game.
But this game is "this glitch saves 2 seconds... and then Gnist applied this to his run and lowered the record by 1 minute, just by optimizing his run." DAMN. The only real skips are cutscene skips, and it's pretty rare. Suckerpunch put together a SOLID game.
I went in expecting just some runners blitzing through Sly 2’s first episode, ended up getting a major Norwegian/Finnish surge.
Everyone else: *Does a record run once or twice*
Gnist: *Does it like 50000 times the very nanosecond someone either even breathes near or beats his record*
That kind of dedication is both admirable and kinda scary, does he even play any other game?
Hekksu: SCREW IT LET'S MAKE IT 100000!
Best sly cooper game in my opinion, such a great story and boss fights
if I see anything sly cooper its an instant sub. didnt even have to start watching and I subbed. love the vid bro. okay, now gonna watch it C:
EDIT: I am halfway thru, I am BLOWN AWAY dude this video is so good. im loving this so much, got me so nostalgic. the way you piece it all together and play the music from the different sly games got me so excited. I could tell where each song came from lol. love it.
EDIT 2: loved it homie. thanks so much! its cool to see that these records have been broken already! currently at 26:47. wow.
Big ups ThaRixer
I love how thorough and professional your documentaries are. Please keep making them.
69th viewer LETS GOOOOO
oh and cool video (:
>"Solid State Drive"
>Shows picture of a 2.5 inch hard disk drive
This is easily the best speed run documentary I’ve ever watched. Though I may be biased because of my nostalgia for the game. Beautiful editing too! Well earned sub 👍
Amazing job on the video! The only thing I knew about Sly before was that it exists but just being 15 minutes into the video this is incredible. I really enjoy the content you put out and Im always looking forward to it. Keep on going man your videos are awesome!!
Feels unreal to see people still making sly Cooper content with this quality to this day
If I get a noise complaint from my landlord because of how hard I just laughed at "Thank God it's not Sweden", I'm putting the full blame on you. XD
Very interesting video and well made. Thanks!
Keep up the work and keep teaching us about the beauty of Speedrun-world :)
I hope for more Sly 2/3 content in the future too
I’ve now watched 2 of your vids (however this one gives me deja vu like I’ve already watched another sly vid by you) and I’m in AWE of how fantastic your story telling and editing skills are. The pans, the music choice, and the perfecting timed cuts, are just amazing man. Keep up the good work man. I look forward to watching more!
Also, I absolutely LOVED the hekksu speedrun montage to Demetri lmaooo, that was fire
I am so glad this showed up in my recomended,
Because of the new playstation plus classics catalog I've been able to finally play this series again after almost a decade and this video hit the sweet spot of nostalgia and interest. It warms my heart to see the community that has grown around this series and its speed runs. Thank you and I hope to see you make more content for the Sly series one day! :)
Showed up in my recommendations. This was a topic I never expected to be covered on TH-cam, nevermind in this quality! Great job.
An absolute great piece of work, Ricky. The pacing, the editing, the montages and the voiceover really blends this into a very informative and fun video to watch. Great work!
Why isn't this on Netflix yet?
all the little snipits of music from old games in all the pauses of this video bring back so many memories holy crap
