When did you add the chicken?! It seems like we skipped that part in the video (bad Daniel!)... just add it into the pot after you're done shredding! Timing is not important ;-)

Doesn’t the chicken breast become really tough if you cook it too long? Chicken thigh can withstand longer cooking times.

I made this when I was recovering from wisdom tooth removal this spring. It was SO GOOD.
(It was simple enough to make on my own about a day after coming home... I just made sure to check that the rice was porridge-y, made the chicken very fine, and cooled it slightly. Thanks for blessing me with this recipe!!!)

I've been enjoying a lot of your soup recipes. Even though it's still pretty warm where I live, it hits the spot. I just recently shared your vegetable porridge with my daughter, since she was feeling under the weather. She didn't want to cook with a lot of ingredients since her stomach was bothering her and the porridge was perfect. She loved the soup and felt much better that she had to message me at 4am.🙄 Thanks soooooo much and here's to comfort food.

i've learned to smash the rice in mortar/pestle type to break up the rice after washing, makes the porridge tastes better. doesn't have to be complicated- just adding minced carrots, tuna or even abalone, crushed seaweed & of course sesame oil/seeds and a bit of soy sauce makes it great. also eating it w/ cubed radish kimchi is so good

  • @SallyChun

This is quite simple and easy to make. It literally can make from my left over aside from the fact that I need to make some stock (but I guess I can substitute that with something like chicken stock powder). I am Thai so I always have leftover cooked rice on hand. Let me try to make this when I am bored of eating the leftovers. Thanks for sharing.
Just to note here our congee call joke is similar to cantonese juk. It is more complicated to make because we have to make stock and cook rice from scratch. The consistency of your juk is slightly thinner than the joke we eat but I think I can use less stock or boil for longer for my liking. To be honest I never know I can use leftover rice to make joke. This is very eye openning.
