He's the best at sweeping that I know of. NO ONE does it as crystal clear, SPOTLESS, like he does...Jesus, seriously, this man's technique is simply godly.
Definitely , you have never heard by jhon petrucci or michael romeo , the cleanest sweeping ever made in LIVE not in studio !! this guy is awesome in stuio fast clean but in live i can notice that sometimes he plays sloppy :/ !!
Othmane Theskills Ofc I know who John Petrucci is but I definitely prefer Loomis style and Petrucci music can be boring to a lot of people where Loomis is a jaw dropping sort of player you have to admit. I could only dream to be this good..
DarthMuse are you serious ? dream theter members in general are the most creative players in there receptive instruments !! they creat the most richest music in metal/rock history and you are saying they can be boring ? wtf !! even if I prefer petrucci on loomis but i would never say that loomis is boring or something !! as i just told you loomis is slopy live , but in studio he is god !! petrucci , paul gilbert ,romeo are gods in studio/live !!
Othmane Theskills I know a lot people in metal that don't like Dream Theater just because they play instruments good and are technical does not mean there good, they only appeal to certain amount of people same can be said about Nevermore, but they were less progressive band, DT are too progressive for my taste.
First video: 88000 views. Second video: 29000 views. Third video: 12000 views. Surely only the immortal ones reach the last video. Someone leave the first video in the tuning part, because is too difficult tune down a half step.
high gain Amps and emg Pickups i think is the key. Emg's get real muddy really fast But if you play precise they Sound so crystal clear, Even on high gain. I think he uses an Engl Amp in this Video aus well
Not to be hating because Jeff Loomis is an amazing guitarist, but at 4:03 he says "I guess that would be augmented." That's actually a diminished arpeggio - there's no possible way to derive an augmented triad from a half/whole diminished scale.
Thomas Caminito Yes, definetly diminuished. I used to warm up a loooot on this exercise without even knowing he plays the same shit xD but I think he just made a mistake
I think he just meant he was thinking about the transition/inversion of what he was doing. What the next part would technically be. He said he was starting with a diminished arpeggio, and then he basically says that on the next part the position shift is inverted. So basically his thought process was "What is the opposite of diminished?" He was thinking maybe the next part could be augmented, but he obviously wasn't sure. He was just trying to break down, and explain what he is doing in this lesson. Thinking about what you are doing vs playing what you are doing are 2 entirely different things. I think most people who have been playing for a while don't have to think about what they are playing it's just muscle memory. It's interesting to me that he caught himself off guard analyzing his own playing.
guys how the hell you hold your pick in fig.9a &9b. Do you put your pick strictly against the string or do you keep it in the same position as alternate picking? I don't know which or what works the best.
It's funny, as hard as they seem (except of course when Jeff does them at fuckin 160 bps on SEVEN strings) arpeggios really aren't THAT hard once you learn the shapes, definitely not the hardest part of playing guitar...the hardest part is getting down the patterns which don't intuitively make sense to your fingers. >< Which of course, he can also do like they're nothing, AT 160 bps...
dude jeff loomis SLOW DOWN YO FINGAS SO I CAN LEARN LOL i need a tab of that arpaggieo at the beginning. hes just on a whole nother level. thats the slowest this god can play lol

He's damn fast definitely one of the best guitar players around today.

That sweep/tap/slide lick around 3:20 is just so freaking slick. Incredible style and technique.
This man is a beast on guitar
Yes! I agree...
The day I can sweep pick like that, is the day I am ready to start playing for real... All the blessings, good master Jeff!
If you never play for real you'll never sweep pick like that.

Danilo Marangi
I have just listened every Loomis song he ever played or just featured. This is the only way to immortality.
Especially when you have a floydrose
I consider this more inspiration than instruction
That last part was kind of Shawn Lane'ish. Loomis is my hero
His tone is perfect...anyone know how I get that??

Again, not to be a downer - I'm sure it was just a slip of the tongue. It's just a funny/quirky moment :)
Thomas Caminito that's why he guessed lol
Thomas Caminito "damnit I just do it shut up" Jeff loomis lol

I laugh at 1:27 when he talks like he didn't just blow everyones mind.
Mike Meyer 1:27
