Jeff Loomis returns to Guitar World with a whole new series of lessons for his column The Merchant of Menace!!! In this lesson Jeff shows you how to play the new Nevermore hit "Obsidian Conspiracy."
@smacman68 Well Sentient 6 is a Nevermore song off the album This Godless Endeavor... It's one of the more slower songs, and not everything in that song's insanely fast, just parts of the solo. You should check it out, it's one of my all-time fav songs by them. Thing is, Loomis is obviously a shredder, and that's his style just like Michael Angelo Batio or Paul Gilbert.
I must admit, I don't own any Nevermore/Loomis music. I only know him from watching TH-cam, so I don't know what your talking about. My point is, when the riff is slowed down, it really sounds good. I'm sure he has slow tempo tracks. They all do.
@Akalack You got a point there, except that hendrix made music with his guitar in stead of noise, so i think i;m talking about music and your talking about noise sounds...
I agree with rkis below in that the riffs sound much better slowed down some than played at lightning speed. Jeff is one of those musicians who's motto is "Speed kills. All speed at all cost" and I think it takes away from the music sometimes. Loomis is a great guitarist, I wish he would slow things down a bit.
...You apparently didn't get that I was making fun of him for covering metallica when my covers are of technical bands, not shitty, joke-of-a-band metallica.
i love his hair
Sweet guitar and sweet playing!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Loving the guitar body finish...
Wow I love his guitar.
Really Tight And Powerful... Awesome !!!
YEA!!!!!!! Way to go Jeff!
Oh hell yes, I get to witness Jeffs Awesomeness up close when they play the House of Bricks in DesMoines in april!!
Whats the song in the beginning?
The riff machine, Jeff Loomis.
That guitar looks sick.

LAYUCHEBI right?
It's been 7 years. Is it still too fast? Haha
@GuitardedMark I have to agree.
@BennettChainmail definitely agree
@ferociouspokemachine Cool. Thnx for the heads up tip.
@brooklynstudio Yeah, you can tell he's meant to be a 7 string player, it'd just be interesting so see what ideas he'd come up with :)
Fu**ing awesome!!!
siiicknesss!
@BennettChainmail Glad I wasn't the only person who thought so..
seems the slo of MOF by Metallica that likck ;)
btw, always good stuff with Jeff ;)
that last bend.
fuck.
@dimeowns100 yeah I can see that. But I don't think he needs the eight string for his stuff. Ya' never know though.
@TheMetalHeaD256 Oke i admit,
I should respect you guys music style..
That arp reminds me a bit "The Glass Prison"
@arifreeman Thats what she said.
His slow is my fast. Damn I've got some practicing to do!
That is a METAL guitar!
You guys should do a tribute to Gary Moore.
@PurpleSixAndNine I am done in 2:34
@RitaArmstrongTV thats a little random... he does kick ass tho
so fucking fluid
@wolfman109h exactly what i was thinking. LOL.
@megajames3000 wait for it to process.
2:30-2:35 is so fucking tight!
the very low string...?
Master of puppets solo! first lick, but Master of Puppets solo :)
@brooklynstudio I think he would deliberately not sound like meshuggah
@quantum8kid More of a Crush my battle opponent balls by DethKlok I think ;P
@Akalack Hendrix is not shitty and metal is awesome
@PrivateSnowballTFC same scale and chord structure, almost
3:06-3:14 - master of puppets solo XD
@smacman68 Sentient 6 is pretty slow...
hold on the solo kinda sounds like the master of puppets sequence
@TCFBbob bahahahaha I hear that metallica is real tough to play man!
First riff actually sounds cool slow.
is it me or is that the master of puppets solo? lol !!
1:36 to 1:42 beelzeboss tenacious d
3:07
Kind of the Master Of Puppets Solo by Metallica?!
TheMMSoldier not even
i think the first riff sounds waaaaaaaaaaaaay better slower
3:06 master of puppets solo ? lol
0th viewer... how the fuck is that possible?
anyway, Jeff is awesome. That's what I call heavy riffing.
ooh 7 string guitar
@drawnacrol
He is paid for making this video
I actually thought it sounded better slower
...You apparently didn't get that I was making fun of him for covering metallica when my covers are of technical bands, not shitty, joke-of-a-band metallica.
does anyone else hear that Canadian accent? about (a-boat)
@andoo345 Almost..except Kirk sucks compared to Jeff and I'm a huge fan of early Metallica for the record lol.
@RitaArmstrongTV they cant, they dont have access to good guitarists, or anyone to pay hommage... or famous tbh...
his technique is alittle off what happened\
@dimeowns100 Meshuggah
@berts1405 D:
liked it better slow.
Lol sorry, didnt read the full conversation
1080p? this shit is 240
Master of Puppets? Well, a thousand songs sound like that. So No, not even close.
Nah, metallica is a piece of garbage compared to nevermore, in terms of complexness
Advice to all guitar teachers out there: turn the fucking gain down when you're trying to teach.
