I think if I can concentrate better and overcome my afflictions, I can get through an hour a day of these great exercises and apply them to my daily practice.I play well considering, but I should be shredding Paganini, Mozart, Bach, & Sweep Arpeggios after 43 years. I just have learning disabilities and it sucks ass. Can anyone relate ? or am I alone here ? I'm not even kidding. I'll do a minute or two and just start drifting. I never saw a need for the neck pup unless it's a single and you're using a strat tone. Or playing a strat or tele. I love inspiring teachers like this and comments

    • @brianbergmusic5288
      @brianbergmusic5288 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ericandrews1661 imo, the neck pup rounds out (even dulls) the frequencies in a way that EQ cannot easily do. Therefore, it's merely another ingredient in your arsenal (but certainly not required to shred). I also prefer the neck pup for complex clean passages (with most of the bass frequencies rolled off).

    • @ericandrews1661
      @ericandrews1661 ปีที่แล้ว

      @BrianBergMusic I see what you're saying. I assume you mean that using double coils. I use the neck on strats and teles all the time but that seems like a whole different thing. I ask because I'm considering buying a soloist in either hh or ssh and I alright have several ssh guitars and not sure how I'd like a neck double. Thanks

    • @brianbergmusic5288
      @brianbergmusic5288 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ericandrews1661 The typical response would be "single coils for cleans and humbuckers for high gain". Generally, this advice is solid, but I'm occasionally surprised by how modern metal amps can take almost any pickup style and make it chug (if high gain is your game, which given this vid probably is the case). There's even a rising youTuber that prefers single coils for a brighter sounding chug for his setup.
      My 7 string is a very simple dual humbucker with no frills, if that helps give you more context. Sometimes I envy the tone of an 80s style amplifier for single coil leads -- it seems to have a distinct sound that is more organic and dare I say, 'dynamic' (Yngwei's tone, if you will). If you play more lead guitar than rhythm, single coils might be something you want to consider on that point alone. Try some out.

    • @ericandrews1661
      @ericandrews1661 ปีที่แล้ว

      @BrianBergMusic I'm definitely more of a lead player than rhythm. I have one nice fender strat and bunch of teles and I enjoy them all on a few good Marshall amps. Nothing super high gain but more 80s. Which works good for me. The singles sound fine, just not quite as thick as doubles.
