- Why is Tears of The Kingdom All Dungeons so hard to break for Speedrunners? It's not the glitches or patches like you might suspect. It's an entirely different problem.

I love that "buying a shirt takes time" makes a substantial difference in the routing for this game
Is there any way to just grab the one on the Sky Island? I know it would take time out of the run, but how does that time compare to the time needed to grab any of the other shirts?
@@parchmentengineer8169I think the main idea is that you have to go out of your way to get the Zora Tunic and Flamebreaker chest anyway. It's more efficient to find a way to do those before Gerudo than to go out of your way, get a shirt, do Gerudo, only to go straight to Goron or Zora's just to get another shirt anyway.

Especially since the reason you would want a shirt is not for stat buffs or anything but just to avoid making the Gerudos horny.
I think there was an issue with not wearing a shirt while talking to hestu being a problem in some other speedrun/challenge run iirc
Can’t wait for TerminalMontage’s artistic take on TOTK speedruns someday.
It’ll be great. I assume they’ll wait at least a year to make it, as the game hasn’t even been out for 6 months still.
@@matthewmspaceI mean the any% speedrun is already sub 45 minutes, which is better than what botw had when terminal montage made his botw animation

@@matthewmspace yeah, when BOTW speedrun was made, the smuggle flight thing wasn’t even a discovered thing yet.
I didn’t actually activate the quest to clear the thunderhead before the spirit temple, i just kinda wandered in. Once I was done with the spirit temple, i remembered the ring ruins and was wondering what they were. I go in ans realise i skipped almost all the steps up to the spirit temple.
i done the same lol , theres so much you can accidentally skip and ruin for yourself by just exploring when that seems to be the main part of the game. they really should have locked some of the things off until youve got an item or done a quest etc
i wish they didnt let me get the mastersword so easily relatively early on, because i wanted to do the geoglyphs as i explored for it to just ruin the dekutree quest later. the gloom hands were fkin me up to then get rewarded with nothing because i had previously watched some cutscenes :(
@@WhyUHaf2BeMad oh yeah the memories were a giant complaint with me cause in BoTW there was a story but if you skipped around it was no big deal. TotK tho, if you skip some it can ruin the story. I ended up looking up all the locations just so I could experience the entire thing in order.
@@LegendofLink5204 I should have done that but instead I just done them as i found them . because I was expecting no matter what way I done it, it would play the memories in the correct order … oh how wrong I was

But how could you go in there without the mask first? It opens the door in the overworld and seems to be required to even start the temple... What am I missing?

I assume it’s because the Great Sky Island is right over the Faron Grasslands?
@@aaaah540 except it’s not? The southernmost point of the GSI is still north of Lake Hylia, so it’s entirely above Central Hyrule.
I feel like he misspoke, and meant Gerudo Town. But even that doesn’t make much sense, tbh
@@aaaah540 afaik speedrunners still have to use the intended drop off point on Great Sky island, which is at the Temple of Time, above central Hyrule Field
The people who made this video did an amazing job at explaining this run! The voiceover, editing and thumbnail were all amazing, and it's nice to see a video that takes a look into this really interesting category.

This makes watching the speedruns much more fun now that I have some background information
LOVE the routing and going into all the stuff that wont even result in anything, it shows an amazing part to speedrunning that you will not see in the finished product. pls make more like this
Wonder what the hypothetical route for an "all warp points" run would be.
Essentially, a speed run where you have to unlock and complete everything that unlocks a potential warp point.
Its probably gonna be the great sky island then the great abandoned central mine then dungeons(and any shrines on the way to the dungeons) then hateno ancient tech lab then all the shrines
Also, I forgot about skyview towers but they would probably be unlocked throughout the run

@@emidemi7211 be glad I didn't say "all koroks" or "all Addison signs". THOSE would be awful.
Besides, FromSoft games have some pretty absurd challenge runs. Whether you talking about "all endings 100% as fast as possible" or "everything you can do on one file as quick as possible", doing a "perfect speed run " in Bloodborne makes "all warp points" feel like a morning jog.
Especially since rocket shield cheeses most of the shrines anyway.

Don't mean to be a nerd here, but at 1:13, it says 6 months of grinding, even though the game's only been out for 4 months as of 9/15/23

Why wouldn’t you grab the archaic tunic if you know you need a shirt later on? I imagine it’s less than ten seconds of time loss, and it could enable the faster route. Is there something I’m missing?

Routing for the great sky island is really wacky and goes nowhere near it
As the one above me has stated, GSI routing is wacky, really wacky.
We go to Ascend first, and do hard to explain precise tricks with voidout areas, but that’s just the start.

@@MrLachapell Yeah, it’s just that patching it is pointless and helps no one.
@@Periwinkleaccountpeople will complain when a single player game isn’t working how it should be. Yes glitches are fun for some people, but they can be frustrating for others. You could argue a lot of these glitches won’t be found by the casual gamer or person who doesn’t want to run into them, but there’s no guarantee of that being true.
@@anthonynguyen1289 Well, they won’t be frustrating for some if it isn’t easily findable and also not inconvenient to the player.
@@Periwinkleaccount Unfortunately they will find it, world Record Speedruns get seen by casuals, they see the game break, then don't get it. Investors and stock markets see this and in turn the company can lose investments. Patching a glitch is going to help them. Ignoring a glitch only costs them.

I just found out I skipped more than half of Sidon's quest... after getting the Zora tunic, I just made a very "held together by duct tape and ambitions" balloon to go up to the water temple. I already wondered why Sidon wasn't there after I regularly completed the Fire temple with Yunobo at my side.
TOTK hasn’t been out for 6 months, but this is a fun video.

I must have gotten pretty lucky, cuz I encountered a falling rock in Faron Woods that took me straight to Dragonhead Island right from the get-go. That, or this is actually pretty common and I just now noticed it lol.
