Thanks to tesla opening some superchargers to non teslas. I managed to charge my MG4 in north wales.
I've been a Tesla fan since seeing it in on TG and I agreed with Tesla, the boys did drive with the intention of rubbishing it!
Since then zi have read everything about Tesla's but all the media report is the bad stuff and the misconceptions about EV's...borderline on plain old telling lies!
There are only two reasons as to why I don't already own any Tesla, there cost and the stupid insurance groups for Tesla's.
In the USA the public get a great deal but us here in the UK have to Pay though the nose so, I'll have to stay buying used ICE cars.

Engineered in big auto world wide 44 years. Rebuild motorcycles and tuned engines but always a fan of Evs. When Tesla came along seeing the way they operated I tried the Model S P85 and bought it in 2014 based on the performance AND the Supercharger network, if a jumped up start up could put their hands in their very shallow pockets at the time and look after owners so we could actually use the car as a car then they get my support and order. So 133,000 UK miles and near 10 years later I have only ever come across 2 stalls not working and in one a tech turned up swapped out a board and had it working. Only had to que once for 15 minutes. To be honest I still love driving this car Ive driven all over the UK and could in an instant drive to Sorrento Italy for free as the free for life Supercharging given to pre 2016 cars is genuinely free for life (if i sold the car privately it would go with the car). Home solar puts 20 miles in a day again free. My Peal white, black wheels, red calipers, creme interior, carbon spoiler, 0-60 4 seconds, RWD drift wagon is still relevant today and ill probably just keep it and head over 250,000 miles......Id say thats a green car. Thanks for highlighting the Tesla functionality with hassle free charging, Ive had 10 years of this. Oh and my "classic" Tesla is as up to date as your latest Y, over the air updates have kept my car bang up to date with dog mode and all the rest.....next car A TESLA.
Just out of interest, as I've seen similar age and milage to your car as described for sale, how is the battery holding out? have you seen any significant degradation to your original range?

Shhh, you’ll spoil all the rumours that they only do 150 miles on a charge, it costs more than an ICE car to ‘fill up’, that you have to queue everywhere to charge, that they burst into flames at the first opportunity and are badly built. 🤔
Same sentiment. I couldn’t afford one for quite a while, but we got our T M Y this past December and hope to replace my other electric car ASAP with another T M Y. In total I have driven 100K electric miles, and enjoyed every maintenance-free minute of it. In fact, I like it so much I started driving Uber with my M Y a few weeks ago and quite a few people express happiness, excitement, joy, and ask lots of questions about the car. Happy to answer them!
Done 40,000 miles in 3 years in my Tesla mod 3. Never had it serviced or needed a repair, im a 55 yr old mechanic and i absolutely love it . There are no better EVs out their😮
I’m a petrol head or now electric head! I’ve had a Model Y LR now for 6months and when people ask me about it I say “it just all makes sense” and it does abit like you have just explained, you’ve hit the nail on the head. They are just good at what they do, arguably the best. Best car I’ve ever owned.

Totally agree...I've had Porsche, Astons Lotuses,Mercedes, BMWs and Jags but hands down the Model Y is objectively the best car I've owned. I had to drive a modern SUV diesel recently and it felt like a slow tractor and so outdated.
I drive a 2023 model 3 performance and the build quality is excellent. It costs next to nothing to run, seriously next to nothing. I’ve done about 2000 miles and it’s cost about £40 in electricity in that time as I charge off peak and have solar. Insurance was £582, It has free road tax, no servicing costs, warranty for 4 years on everything and 8 years on drivetrain and battery. I bought it using Tesla 0% finance as well.This month our other car a BMW 840 gran coupe has needed road tax (£570) service (£645) and insurance (£693) plus MoT. Factor in fuel at 28mpg as it only runs around the doors and the Tesla is a bargain. I honestly prefer driving the Tesla as well. If someone told me this a year ago I wouldn’t have believed them.
I did the same, had a M340d, bought a M3P with 0% and £5700 off list price. Love it so much. Quiet, easy to drive and the stereo is amazing. Wouldn’t go back to an ICE car now
I can relate to this as I switched from an RS3 to a 2022 M3P. I have done 10,000 miles which has cost me just under £200 in electric, as well as zero tax and servicing. The super charging network, Tesla software and app all make it the best EV experience imo. Worth mentioning that Tesla Superchargers today are over 50% cheaper than 3rd party chargers such as grid-serve/Instavolt which is an even bigger bonus for Tesla’s.
But any other EV will be as good, not just Tesla. Far more desirable EVs are out there, other than those ubiquitous & boring Teslas, a bloated Model Y and a fish-faced Model 3 :)

I do agree about the ubiquity tho, it’s a great product but in no way does it stir the soul.
@@harmony3138 Me too. Love my i4, and according to Bjorn Nyland, it comes in a very close 2nd to the model 3 in terms of efficiency.
I did a 260 mile, 4 hour 40 min journey, at speeds ranging from 30 to 70 mph, and averaged 3.9 miles/kWh. I call that very good indeed.
Model Y long range owner, 25k miles in 15 months, regularly do 500 miles in a day, fully loaded with luggage and grandchildren. One thing you missed is how safe it is. The car auto steers, auto brakes and stops, creeps and follows in traffic, keeps in lane, watches and avoids obstacles and pedestrians, reads the road and road signs, utterly amazing. In keeping itself safe, so to speak, it keeps us safe. And don’t forget Sentry mode! Plus in NCAP crash tests is it the safest family car of all. Best family car in the world by far. NB car has been faultless, has better build quality than our previous Skoda Kodiaq and needs no servicing. Really excellent review btw.
Hi, I’m thinking of buy one but feel a little blind on how much it will actually cost to charge overnight. We are with BG for gas/electric and they have an overnight EV tariff. Still feel clueless on the cost though!
You nailed why I now drive a model 3, but you miss an important feature and made your Supercharger visit over complex. You didn't need to use the touchscreen to open the chargeport flap, simply take the press the button on the charger plug and plug in the charger.
I had to really push myself to watch this video as I’m not much of a Tesla/EV fan, but because it’s you I knew it would be unbiased and honest so I watched. Thank you for showing me how good the Tesla is, especially with the right charge network which like you I think is brilliant. I thought the dog mode was also pure genius. If I was going to buy an EV it would be a Tesla.

Dog mode is genius. Honestly, it is transformative if you travel with dog. I will simply never buy another car without it whilst i have a dog.
Tesla offers an integrated "EV solution" more than a car. Which really does make up for the deficiencies of the car. We have no problems driving ours around europe every summer from central Norway.
@@15bit62If you drop in a restaurant for an hours lunch on a hot sunny day and utilize dog mode how many km of range are used up?
@@sunrisejak2709 Probably easier to think in energy than km. I haven't really looked too hard at it, but if you assume the car pulls 1kW for the AC (which i think is an over-estimate) that would cost you 2kWh (or about 3% of the battery in a model 3) over a 2 hr stop.
At normal road speeds (90kph) i get around 160Wh/km consumption, and at motorway speeds (120-130kph) i get around 200 Wh/km. Run the maths on that and we are talking about a range loss of around 10-13km for a 2 hour stop with dog mode running.

Ignore the negativity. One of the reasons I watch your channel is because you review and appreciate all cars. Tesla are clearly way ahead with the infrastructure. Hopefully other manufacturers will get better and become real competition. Sat Navs have to be integrated into the charger network... Great review Pedro. Loved this one....

A major pro for the Tesla that you didn't talk about is the Sentry Mode for parking and also 360 cameras if involved in an incident. You can also sleep overnight in it, using camp mode (i have) before hill walking or cycling.
Great review! People who think EVs are rubbish should be made to watch this - and so should all other EV makers!

I don't need to, I have owned an EV for 7 years and 5 months and 37 k miles and it has lost 33% battery capacity and range. I will not be buying another EV due to the fatal flaw of all EV's, which is battery degredation, due to dendrite formation, with age and use cycles, which ICE vehicles do not suffer from.
Sorry my experience is that they are not fit for purpose long term.

Glad you finally got to find out how good the Tesla experience is. Its also worth pointing out that the Tesla Supercharger network is about half the price per kWh compared to all the other rapid charging networks.

I am also a car enthusiast, I have had loads of cars over the years including proper petrol head cars like Alfa, TVR and Maserati but I love my model Y.
I have done 37k miles in just under a year, including a trip from Perth to northern Italy and back, l don’t charge at home so I only use public / Tesla chargers and it has been easy.
I previously did 120k miles in 5 years in a 40KWh Renault Zoe so I really appreciate the advantages of the Tesla.

Over 100,000 km in a Model 3 performance over 4 years in Australia. Mostly charged off rooftop solar and superchargers on long trips. Completely agree with this review - its been totally hassle free. We often have our old rescue dog with us on long trips and dog mode has been a game changer. Add to that the fact that it hasnt been serviced since we bought it, and is comfortable quiet and preternaturally fast, including corners. It is the ultimate form of efficient clean transport and crash tests suggest they are very well engineered. Panel gaps? I dont care. Once you have learned the voice commands you need the screen a lot less. The unexpected side effect is that I have lost my interest in cars generally. But that might be age.
In our house we're lucky enough to have a 20 year old Mini cooper, BMW 335d xdrive, Honda Fireblade and a tuned Kawasaki H2SXSE - so you could say I'm a petrol head 😄 However I also got my hands on a new Tesla Model 3 performance through our company salary sacrifice scheme in April. 8000 miles later and all I can say is you have hit the nail on the head with your review, nothing else for me to add, just a superb piece of kit that has fitted into this car and bike enthusiasts life seemlessly

We've had a Y in our family for a year now, and the owner would agree with everything in your video Pete, good and bad. He's getting summer motorway efficiency of more than 4m/kWh from his long range. With that and the space efficiency too, you wonder how the others can be so far adrift.
I bought my Model S 6 months after the S hit the market. Mine is so old that it doesn't even have parking sensors! I've been driving it for about 11 years now, and have just over 160,000 kms on it. I don't know about other company's EV construction quality, but I have zero complaints (yes ZERO) about Tesla's build quality. I've owned a Land Rover, a BMW, a Ford, a Honda and a Mercedes, and Tesla is right up there at the top for quality. And it's DEFINITELY at the top for engineering. There is just no comparison. The tesla "build quality" complaints always come down to 1 thing - slight panel misalignment, that you only spot if you look for it using calipers and a micrometer.

Great review, owned a Model Y for 8 months in Australia, apart from a few annoying rattles inside it’s been great. Fitted a towbar too which makes it even more useful.
50,000 miles in a Model 3 Performance. Agree with all you said. Coming from a diesel the only way I can describe having a Tesla is like when you used to play on games and someone gives you the cheat codes. Its SO easy. I've taken it to Belgium, France, Germany, Holland...the network just sorts it out. Over that 50,000 miles so far the only issue has been a seized frunk latch that was replaced on my driveway by a Tesla Ranger (Another part of the story not touched on) If you have a problem with your car you log it on the app, pick a slot and if its doable mobile they'll come to you. You also receive OTA updates regularly that adds more functionality to the car including new shortcuts for buttons, menus, apps, redesigned UI. At a point now where you don't even need to touch the screen. The car I bought back in 2020 is nowhere near the car it is now, unrecognizable in terms of functionality. As a result you never get the itch to get something new as everyone gets the latest features. Its been absolutely bonkers. They have literally re-written the book on what it means to have a car.

Don’t even need to faff with the menu when you want to charge. Just click the button on the charger near to the charge port and it’ll open it for you 👍🏽
I've just changed from an F30 BMW into a new Model Y and I'm stunned at just how good the car is. Serene, stress-free and a very lovely place to be. Stepping back into the BMW after a very length y test drive was like stepping back 30 years.
And the BMW doesn’t have a fart machine 😂😂

Great review Pete. You mentioned the display in the car shows battery capacity as a percentage - it can show 'miles' instead; just tap the percentage number and it changes to range in miles. There is much debate about which is better, but you at least have the choice.
The 'miles' range quoted are a bit optimistic, but the satnav consumtion basis and projection is very accurate, as are the graphs and other data under the Energy tab.
You can change display on the main screen from Miles to percentage as well by tapping the battery icon. There is also another handy mechanical button for wipers and windscreen washer if you press harder. You can open chargeport at Supercharger with the button on the plug. Great review

Everything you mentioned was the reason why I bought my Model 3, it was a used example too. I've had Porsche's, Mercedes and BMW cars in the past and I LOVE the Tesla and will be keeping it for some time. Like you say, when you factor in cheap night time tariff (ours is 7.5p per KWh) it costs nothing to drive somewhere. We recently did a 250 mile round trip and didn't need to supercharge and I worked it out as we averaged over 4 miles per KWh on the trip it cost me less than a fiver in electric!! Less than the cost of 1 gallon of diesel which would have got me 45 miles in my last car. I love my cars too, and I cannot fault the Tesla, I'd buy another one when the time comes
@petrolped I’m excited to watch this tonight as I’ve been waiting a long time for you to do a video on one. I used to do all the work on your Ruby roadster at a certain mini garage in Staffordshire (if you remember me). 3 years ago I made the jump to Tesla and I’ve loved it ever since. Coming from tuning mini’s, to electric vehicles was weird at first, but they certainly grow on you!

Spot on, no gushing, no negativity, just straightforward reporting and perspective. We have a 2023 Model Y Long Range (having had an ID.3 and Cupra Born perviously, we also have a Mini Electric) and it has been a pleasure. More performance and space, yet cheaper and easier to run, the Tesla is on a different level. Before EVs I had a string of Porsches and other sporty cars in my car career (we also have 2 dogs, so it's not difficult to identify with the Petrol Ped world view), but definitely don't feel short changed. A classic Porsche for high days and holidays would be fabulous, but for normal use we find the EVs better in every way. We live in a town, tons of school kids walk up and down our road, we like the idea of not adding to the pollution they're breathing. That's about as political as we get about EVs.
Sums them up very well. Definitely not the most inspirational car but as a tool it is superb. I travel UK wide with work daily. Owning a Tesla (M-Y) has made it easier and less tiring than my previous 600 mile range diesel. Now when I get back in the ice cars, they feel like stoneage vehicles.

I'm fed up with the lecturing from local dimwits, calling themselves car enthusiasts who've never driven an EV, let alone a Tesla. I just say "whatever you say" and have a little chuckle to myself and go about my day.
Currently down in Menorca, 2nd trip down here, also done two Alps trips once in winter once in summer, that is in 1 year, I think it’s men that have issues with its looks, I have sentry mode on and have many clips of women looking at it, one Spanish woman said “it’s beautiful” so easy to do long trips, so cheap to run. I was a car salesman, then worked for an electricity company, my model Y is the best car I have owned, yes I have had, Porsche, Mercedes, Fiat panda, did love my Panda. Go electric…. It’s so much better
Thanks Pete. Another great video. I've had my Model Y Standard Range for six months. It is on salary sacrifice so even cheaper to run. Just got back from a few days in Cornwall. 710 miles in 6 days at 224 watt hours per mile, so very economical and does the range shown. Great driving on the country lanes, helped by the regen braking and just eats up the motorway miles. Only ever had to queue for a charger once in 6m and never had an issue with the network. Totally understand why they are so popular,
Now take it down through France, you'll enjoy it even more.

Recently completed a 2700 mile trip in my Tesla RWD from Yorkshire to france, then Switzerland into Italy and back again, I averaged 4.2 miles per Kwh with 3 adults, 2 dogs and a boot full of luggage. Cost me £ 194.77 in electric, I only used Tesla Superchargers which were plentiful, awesome car :) Same journey in my volvo v90 wo have cost @ £522.
Culture shock, going from last week's Mustang with the works to a Tesla Model Y 😮. Another characteristic of Teslas in particular is the experience going up and down a very steep twisty mountain road with switchbacks etc, which can be done without touching the brakes if you go at a passenger friendly pace. It's almost like the car is reading your mind. You can basically set your speed through your right foot. It's not racing but you don't have to crawl along either. Very satisfying and it gives an amazing sense of control of the vehicle. It's not that I don't appreciate cars more generally, I still check out Peugeot 205 GTIs in the classifieds.

I'm not an ev fanboy, but you are, in my opinion, 100% correct regarding Tesla . Way out in front for all the reasons mentioned. 👍
I have had electric cars since 2017 and in Dec 21 I got my Model 3 RWD. It is by far the easiest car to live with. I regularly do a 500+ round trip in a day to Liverpool. With autopilot on the motorways and the supercharger network its so easy. Honestly by the time I have used the loo and grabbed a coffee at Rugby service my car is ready to go again.
Also in 25k miles (touch wood) i have not had a single issue and still on the same set of tires.
Get the white interior! I did, its so nice and i only use baby wipes to clean them. 25k no marks.
I would consider other manufacturers, but spec for spec the Model 3/Y are way ahead at the price point.

Yes I wish I had got the white interior. Tesla Ranger told me the model 3 with White Interior reflect the heat and keep the car noticeably cooler in hot sunny weather as we've had this summer.
@@BarryHaegerSalesCoach never had the black interior to compare. Car still gets very hot in the sun but the white seats are never that hot themselves. The armrest however is scalding 🤣
@@RussRyan7713 I've only had the Model 3 since this spring but was forever getting overheat protection warnings and the fans/AC firing up. I mitigated it a lot by buying a set of pop-in roof shades with a silvered reflector plus a silvered shade for the windscreen and this definitely keeps the car cooler. I', thinking of getting a quote for thermal tints like I had on my MG ZS EV and that made a massive difference with farless glass

I have a Tesla Model 3 Long Range. I genuinely have less "range anxiety" in that than my diesel 4x4. The car has been to France, Germany and Switzerland and has been an absolute joy, it is the most convenient vehicle I have ever had. I would quite like to change it in the future to the Y because of the extra space and slightly higher seating position but for now I'd only have a Tesla EV
Indeed, did France and Switzerland this year, Italy and maybe Spain and Portugal next year. Not quite decided on the second trip yet. Absolute pleasure, arrived very relaxed. Worst part was the final bit from Folkstone onwards. What a grim country we suffer.
Very good review Pete. Extremely accurate to my experience of Model 3 and now Model Y ownership. I did a road trip to Stockholm from London this summer in the Model Y with a tow bar mounted bike rack with 2 e-bikes and my rough collie dog in the back. No issues what so ever and the Model Y cruised down the German autobahn at 150kph (when it was legal) without effort. Even fitted a third bike in the back (with the dog) on the way back to the UK. So much space, so easy to drive and so easy to live with. And you are right - Dog Mode is genius and a god send, and what you didn't mention is that the car is locked and alarmed in dog mode, but the interior movement sensor is disabled. Plus you can warm or cool the car before you are due to leave so it's defrosted in winter and cooled down in summer. Those are the sort of functions that are genuinely useful. Some other manufacturers are adding that now, but I hope it becomes standard on all cars as I'd find it difficult to have a car without it now I'm used to it.
What impact did you find with the bikes on the rear? We had a fab trip to Switzerland this year, so easy and enjoyable and doing Italy next year. I was thinking of chucking the bikes on the tow hitch too.

@@djtaylorutube On the Model Y the reduction in efficiency with a 2 bike rack on the back was only in the region of 5 to 10%. On the Model 3 it was considerably more as the bikes interrupted the air flow to a greater extent. On the Model Y you are hardly conscious the bike rack is there, but I did remove the bike's seat posts to improve air flow and the rear view as well. Only issue is parking as the rear view camera is blocked and security if the bikes are expensive, but bike locks and Sentry Mode help reduce the risk of theft. It was well worth taking the bikes and I'd suggest a stop over on the way to Italy in Alsace in France which has great bike rides through the vineyards. Hope that helps.

I'm a huge petrol guy, love motorsport and cars.
I had my doubts about Tesla but boy let me tell you when I stepped on that pedal in the model y performance I was shocked how damn quick it was, the torque is just instant. It truly is something else.
The comfort and sound isolation was great as well and the interior felt ok.
I will always prefer a V8 or a great sounding car but for daily driving this is just great.
This is why I drive a model y. It just does everything so well. I tried everything from competitors and nothing came close.

That's strange. But I did notice you had a speed restricted message on screen, I wonder if the car was in Valet mode, this adds restrictions to certain things and maybe / oddly this is one of them..
Phenomenal review always love your work. I've had a Model Y Rwd in Perth W.A since Nov 2022 & absolutely love it. Once you own a Tesla you then understand why owners love them so much. Not having to pay for ridiculously expensive fuel ever again is the best feeling. I also charge for free at a lot of local shopping centres & have 20 solar panels on my roof so my electricity bills are always very small. If your sitting on the fence go test drive one like Petrol Ped recommends - you won't regret it.

Totally agree about charging and satnav - we bought a model 3 specifically for the fact that Tesla offer an EV "solution" more than a car. We do summer vacations around europe in our Model 3, and 7500km (4660 miles) in 4 weeks is no problem. The only challenge is finding slow chargers at hotels and guesthouses. Highway charging is insanely easy.
As to build quality - no complaints on my (american made) car. It's actually well screwed together, but the minimalist interior styling does struggle to convey the same sense of luxury you get with a jag or porsche. The car does have a huge weakness with road noise though.
Tesla Service: Yeah, that has been a disappointment for me here in central Norway. They even managed to forget to plug in my main cooling fans after service, which left me slightly screwed whilst trying to drive round europe and fast charge a lot. But Tesla Milton Keynes in the UK took the car with no appointment and sorted it same day, so huge credit to them. And it highlights that service is as much a person-dependent thing as a brand dependent thing.

Nonsense...I own a Tesla S and 911 997.2 the Tesla is much faster in a straight line, but I absolutely love driving 997..stereotype but Tesla creaks and rattles, Dealership are pretty poor, no physical controls for climate and indicators on new car..Hybrid is best, but Tesla charge network is good ..but as Heritage manufacturers catch up, and China offers more tech and options, but Tesla will fade in market share
Great review. Worth mentioning though, they all come with basic autopilot (autosteer). No upgrade required unless you want it to automatically change lanes when you indicate.

Tbh, the charging network in general is improving massively at the moment for all EVs. For example I drove my humble Renault Zoe from North Cornwall to Liverpool and back in a day recently with almost no planning whatsoever. I didn't use any apps, I didn't use any rfid cards, I just tapped my debit card and charged. But you're right, that integration is second to none, and until a manufacturer pairs properly with a CPO, Tesla has everyone else beat. That all said, as you pointed out, how often do you really need to charge away from home? Even the aforementioned Zoe requires so little public charging on a regular basis, it's something I honestly don't really ever consider.
I did a 960 mile round trip to the northwest of Ireland in a Tesla MYLR for a funeral - over just 2 days- could have got away with two stops but unlike the car, I had to take 4. 2 tesla and 2 public. Both tap and pay. Effortless

We have a China built car and the quality is as good as any car we’ve had.
I’d add the ongoing updates as another advantage as they keep the car up to date and it just gets better every 2-3 months. Every other manufacturer promised that and only Tesla deliver.
I have a model y performance in Ireland and it is very easy to live with. I've never tested how much range i get out of a charge nor do i need to i just drive and use its navigation if im unsure. Its great for beach trips with a surfboard in the back too, i turn off my phone Bluetooth and use the keycard to lock it when at the beach which is handy.

Great video, I have a Model Y long range on a 72 plate. I work for Uber in Central and Outer London and I consistently do 800-900 miles a week in my car. The Tesla supercharger network is probably the main reason why I decided to buy the car. They just always work, they are super convenient to use, and are properly quick to charge the car. I tried using a non-Tesla charger in Brent Cross shopping centre last week. Total disaster, after 30 mins I had 25 miles added, to get the charger to release the cable I had to call the customer service guy who was in Bulgaria, and could barely hear me because the line was so bad. Utterly pathetic, never, ever use that charger system again. Tesla superchargers just work.
After owning 2 Nissan Leafs as my personal and driving school cars I now have a Tesla Model 3. The Leafs were great cars but the Tesla…… it’s awesome. It’s decades ahead of legacy brands.
The Supercharger network and integration with the sat nav just works exactly how you want it to. It’s a major incentive to buy a Tesla over rivals. My car is a RWD with the LFP battery so about 270 miles of range but the LFP battery can take more abuse and is still taking in 60kWh on a Supercharger at 90%. The Supercharger you visited at Havant is local to me. They max out at 125kWh. It’s quick.
There are some nuggets you pick up over time owning a Tesla and I’m sure I still have some to discover. The percentage display on the car screen does show range left. If you tap the percentage it toggles to miles. I leave it in percentage which seems more useful. At a Supercharger you don’t need to unlock the charge port in the car. There’s a button on top of the CCS plug. If you push it your charge port opens. You can also use it to stop the charge.
I’ve learnt that Tesla ownership is about the experience as much as the car. From booking test drives and buying the car online through daily ownership and charging they just do it all so well.
You basically pointed out the 2 things I was going to mention :). Yeah, no need to press touch screen to unlock port at a supercharger, and the percent / miles change by touching. And the App works the same, you can switch by tapping too.. I'm the Y RWD, even though it's the slowest Tesla you can get, still plenty fast..
You can also just tap the charge port and it opens, so long as the car is unlocked.

So happy you liked the Model Y, I have been driving my LR since February 2022 and it is simply the best car I have ever driven. You missed one of the storage areas! Just behind the rear seats there is "hidden" storage where the third row of seats would be if fitted.
Great video, early on in the video you mention that the main screen only displays battery percentage and not ‘miles remaining’ . If you tap the battery percentage on the screen it will change over to ‘miles remaining’
I’ve had a standard Model 3 for 2 years now and can say it has been totally hassle free. Everything just woks and no maintenance whatsoever ever. Waiting for my next Tesla now.

The way you're speaking about the car and what Tesla does well gets you called a fanboy straight away, but in reality, it's just talking about what these cars genuinely do well.
Eventually I'll be in the market for a new car, and I'll look at all manufacturers, but right now there's so much going for the Model 3 and Model Y when it comes to things that actually matter in real life.
I bave had my model 3 long range for nearly 2 years (came from an m135i), love it. Works, no issues, no servicing of any kind, no brakes to replace within 100k miles and now I added acceleration boost over the air update, even more bonkers acceleration. Charging publicly is simple, not too expensive and always easy to plan, the car does it all and at home on Octopus Intelligent, under a fiver for a full charge which easily is 300 miles driving normally, not carefully. I just don't get the hate for them must be like Apple is to Android users I guess, except many of us are android if that makes sense. Great review, spot on too.
Good video PED can see the overall attraction of living with a Tesla with regards to charging Network though for me price wise if I’m gonna spend that much on a car it’s gotta at least have some curb appeal. The dog mode is clever but I’d never leave my dogs unattended in a car personally.
I’ve had a Cupra Born for just over two months and that easily does 230miles on a full charge (58kWh version) which is more than enough for me. I have found public charging pretty straightforward though the increasing cost of Rapid chargers is a concern.
I did make sure I got a free charge off Tesla the other day when it was free though 😉

Your dogs are NOT left unattended. The app can be used to constantly check on your dogs. ANY activity around the vehicle is immediately reported to your phone. The app will also warn you if your charge level is approaching the point where climate control will be impacted.

Little touches like Dog Mode really make Tesla's stand out. Honestly, it seems like a frivolous joke thing, but if you have a dog it is totally transformative - you can leave the dog in the car with total confidence that it won't suffer and people won't break your windows.
I would say that i have had no problems with my model 3 being tricky on the limit. Even in an icy norwegian winter it handles fine and will either understeer or drift neutrally. Nothing i can do will make the back end step out.

@@tonyhilliarduk That's the genius bit - the big screen remains lit with a specific message saying that the aircon is running and the dog is fine. It also shows the current temperature. Google for "Tesla dog mode" images.

Great video Ped. I drive a RWD model 3 and it’s simply a brilliant car. So easy to live with, drives well, costs me practically nothing to run day to day and is reasonably fun to drive.
I love driving ICE cars, especially manuals, but I’d rather use a Tesla day to day if I’m honest, and have a great manual sports car for weekend fun.
My ideal, attainable garage is a 911 (997.1 Turbo) and a Tesla.

I had a 2019 M3 SR+ for 3.5 years and I have had jag XF and Saab 95 before - the tesla was by far the best car and everything you could want.
This car has changed my mind about EVs. 300 miles is ok and the features it offers are great. also the towing capacity is pretty good for a non-SUV type of vehicle. However what would the range be towing a, let's say, 1500 kg Caravan ? That would be interesing to find out. and with the Charge-network integration it would certainly alleviate the Range- anxiety, for me, assuming I don't have to unhitch the caravan to charge it. There are several videos about towing with EVs now, including a nice one from Engineering Explained that goes through the maths. The long and short of it is - EVs suffer massive range loss when towing. So in practice you are looking at a stop every hour or so to charge. So whilst i am a happy EV owner, i don't think i would recommend them for caravan vacations.
The reason is that the trailer/caravan completely ruins the aerodynamics. There are some niche companies making more "EV friendly" trailers/caravans now, but they are going to be expensive.
Of course a caravan will also ruin the aero for a diesel car too, but typically people tow with SUV style diesels now, which already punch a big hole in the air for the trailer/caravan to fit in (whereas EVs are usually lower profile and have more finely tuned aero). Plus of course the range is longer from a big tank of diesel. So whilst a significant range loss is still there, you notice it a lot less.

But yes towing is not great for fuel economy I remember towing all sorts of caravans 30 years ago and be it petrol or diesel I'd often get twice the consumption ie half the range when towing
MOst Tesla chargers won't accommodate charging with caravan affixed.. I think those will come. Also remember a caravan will hamper your 0-60 time!!

With a Model Y long range, you now have no excuse in buying an EV that will take your family down to Cornwall for a holiday.
Richard Symons of RSEV did a 478-mile trip from Edinburgh to the New Forest and only needed to stop once for 30 minutes to charge. He said it was longer than necessary, but he needed the break himself.
It's good to have someone who tests both EVs and ICE and gives a balanced opinion. Johnny Smith does similar 😊
Tesla has been around for only 20 years but damn they really nailed it with Model 3 and Model Y. Just as Elon predicted years before model 3 came out. He said this was the plan for mass production and that plan is not even close to over. They are coming out with a few more vehicles before they complete that plan.
I really hope for a nimble hatch like upcoming Model 2 since the choice today is limited to a sedan/saloon Model 3, liftback-sedan/saloon - Model S, CUV jelly bean with coupe body shape and low ground clearance - Model Y, another jellybean shaped CUV coupefied minivan with chicken wings - Model X. I still believe in non jellybean shaped cars like station wagons/estates. So far Tesla has only one Swiss knife approach looking all alike due to aerodynamic efficiently, disregarding pure practicality.
Is it really true what he said “ you can pick up a 1-2 years old MY for 25,000”, so you loose more than 50% on your EV in 1 or 2 year, that’s a lot of depreciation.

The cheapest Y on Autotrader is £35k for a ‘Cat S’ car - Most Y’s are still over £40k
Two year old M3 Standard Range Plus models are about £27k+ and this was a £42k (ish) car when new in 2021.

On the charging front.... with Tesla, how did you pay for the Tesla charger top up?.... is it credit card at the charger, or does the car tell the app what you took & is that linked to a card or bank account (which would be good).....?
I have driven a few but never had to charge one.
In the app, you provide payment details for your Tesla account (and any other Tesla purchases).
It's immediately charged to the account.
If touring Europe, it makes sense to change the payment card to one that doesn't charge foreign transaction fees. Revolut, Starling etc.
I think Tesla needs to have a Network Priority charge reservation process added to their software. When they open it up to non Tesla owners the charge stations will get very busy. If a Tesla owner is traveling and the sat=nav plots a rout to a charger station and they are low on power the software should reserve or lock out a unit for the Tesla traveler.
In 2022 the best selling car in the world was the Toyota Corolla with 1.15m sales.

Before being transported using more energy&causing more harmful pollution.
Then it's stored at a refinery which uses massive amounts of electricity and water to process it(1-2.5 gallons of water at the refinery level alone per refined gallon of burnable fuel.
Before being transported again causing even more pollution, spills etc. Where it's then stored in underground tanks which are proven to leach out into our local watertables.
Before finally using some more electrical energy and an electric motor it's pumped up into a gas tank. To cause even more pollution as it's burned at a well-wheels efficency of under 20% in most use cases. And barely 30% in the most efficient case. 🤣
