I’ve owned mine for 4 months (replaced an X5 MSPORT) Buy the “over the air” acceleration boost …0-60 4.2 seconds. It’s an incredible car. I’ve done 12,000 miles in 4 months. I can’t think of any other car under £100K that I would like.
Thoroughly enjoyed that. The whole one take thing brought an interesting dimension to it. You could make a series of them called POT's (Ped's One-Takes) Well done for not faffing with the door handles, everyone struggles with mine even after 9 months of ownership! A Tesla is probably the best first EV, they alleviate all charging and range fears so well with the network and efficiency. In my Model 3 Performance I'm regularly over 4mi/kwh. Recently did a 250 mile trip from Yorkshire back to Gloucestershire non stop with at least 40mi left on the range. It's true you don't need the Performance versions, but the big child in me is SO happy I did. You never bore of it and your passengers never expect it! Tesla's are not perfect, but they are mighty impressive and brilliant EVs.
@@PetrolPed on that trip back from Yorkshire it was 4.1/4.2 and that was in 12deg with constant showers. I don't want to sound like a fanboy, I did have an Ioniq5 on order before I bought the Tesla, but when you can stick with Taycan Turbo/S upto license loosing speeds and get twice the efficiency you have to be impressed by them. Just wish they looked more interesting!
Great video Pete. I love my model 3 but the practicality of a Y is very tempting as I have a dog that's 26Kg, so much bigger than your 2. However he sits on the back seat without issue so comes with us to France, Scotland, Cornwall etc. Have to say the Tesla experience is the best car ownership I've had in 40 years of driving. People say it's a go-kart with an iPad, but in fact it's a very sophisticated car with a huge number of features and a fantastic safety rating. I've had some small issues which were sorted without fuss, but then my friend with a Jaguar iPace had some major issues and my friend with a VW ID3 has got fed up with multiple problems (all finally sorted after about 6 visits to the dealership). If Tesla softened the suspension on the Model Y it would be world beater - but then I suspect it already is!
I have a base model 3 and I love it. Lower center of gravity and plenty of power for me. No regrets what so ever. Performance model would be fun but frivolous upgrade.
Got a white, LR, white & black interior with enhanced autopilot last month. It is on my work salary sacrifice & being with Octopus we get cheap charging 0030 to 0430 daily. I love it & the wife & kids love it too. I’m a Tesla convert…👍
Great review as always Pete, and although I thoroughly enjoy watching your longer videos, I am confident viewers are always able to find 20 minutes in their day to tune in to PetrolPed. Perfect ! Cheers! Tom.
I ordered my Tesla Y at the fully charged show, all the other electric cars were there, but the Tesla was streets ahead, looked at polestar, Audi, VW, etc and the Tesla was streets ahead, and it was was cheaper, which is so crazy (when you spec them the same) it’s crazy that the others haven’t caught up. Build quality was absolutely fine, if you go round with a magnifying glass, you will find small flaws, but you have to look really hard, build quality is a non issue that is brought up as what can you criticise about Tesla, not very much at all. Mine is white with white interior and I pick it up on 5th Sept
@@PetrolPed just picked up my Y today from Southampton, drove it back to Hayling Island, the ride seems better than the one I test drove at Fully Charged live, didn’t notice the crash bangs on pot holes
At last an honest comment on the position of the Speedo reading on the front screen. You DONT have to turn your head to see it! You just move your eyes just like you do for looking in your rear view mirror. I’ve never had to turn my head in my model Y either! Thank you 👍
This is exactly the same car my finger is hovering over the button on. Grey White Interior LR. And While I have been dithering, there's been a price drop.... its funny money as the car I have has similarly dropped.
In terms of the build quality - yes I get what you’re saying. Room to improve still. However, what (most) people don’t understand is that these are well founded criticisms of the (California built) 2017 Model 3. Tesla had some very difficult growing pains to overcome when trying to achieve mass scale; but overcome them they did indeed. In terms of technology and pace of innovation, they can’t be touched by the “Big Boy” OEM’s. That flawless ownership experience you talk about, that’s because of their vertical integration. They are world class at hardware manufacturing and software. How many companies can you say that of? Only other is Apple that springs to my mind. If you buy a Model 3 or Model Y LR today in the UK, they’re coming China (as I write this today) and if you buy a performance Y it’s coming from Germany. The quality compared to that 2017 MY has come on leaps and bounds. Why? They have continued to delete parts and processes. Check out what they have done with the “Giga Casting,” “Super Bottle” and more recently, “Octovalve.” If you can understand that, then you can really start getting under the skin of the company and get a read of its DNA. Tesla makes up to 30 changes per week to their cars whilst the best of the rest do maybe half a dozen every 2-5 years depending on the company. Check out Joe Justice on TH-cam if you want to understand this more. 10 TESLA FUN FACTS: 1. It takes VW 3 times longer to make the ID.4 than it does for Tesla to make the MY 2. Each car Tesla makes is 6 times more profitable than a car BMW makes 3. Tesla overtook both Ford and GM this year in terms of profitability even though it makes less cars 4. At current rate of growth, Tesla will overtake GM in 2023 for total cars produced and Ford by 2024 5. At current rate of Growth Tesla will overtake Apple as the worlds most valuable company by 2025 6. Out of the 10 largest companies by Market Capitalisation, Tesla has grown your quickest/most over the last 10 years with a 70%+ Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR). 7. Tesla plans on continuing its growth rate by 50% CAGR (average) until 2030 8 Tesla’s publicly stated goals of producing 20m per year cars by 2030 would be double that of VW/Toyota who are the current largest 9. Tesla’s goal of completing its FSD programme would allow a Tesla robotaxi network. My opinion this will add a zero to the stock price. 10. I have a number of Tesla Cybertrucks on order to run a Tesla autonomous Cybertruck taxi business as part of my retirement plan 😬
There seem to be a number of complaints of Tesla build quality and materials. Personally, I have zero issues with build quality. I bought my model S back in 2013, and it's solid as a bank vault - no squeaks or rattles, still feels brand new. The materials are the same as in the BMW & Land rovers I used to have - I have leather, alcantera, aluminum, carbon fibre, soft touch plastics and some hard touch, same as every other car out there. But the primary thing you're paying for with Tesla is the *engineering*. The guts of the car. Tesla engineering is the best in the world (literally!) and is YEARS ahead of the competition. Tesla is inventing their own alloys. They have their own GPU chip design & fab. What other car company is doing either of those? My 9 year old Tesla is better than any car I've owned or driven. I took at 2015 Mercedes S class for a test drive for comparison, and it was awful. It wallowed in the corners. It had a weird blobby ride - and boy was it slow. Punch the gas and you actually have to WAIT for it to rev up and downshift before anything happens. My S is WAY better than a 2 year younger Mercedes S class. The big indicator will be how the prices of Teslas compare to other cars once they come out of warranty. There is a reason why Mercedes & BMW's drop like stones when they're no longer under warranty - they cost a fortune to maintain. Not so with Tesla. I just this past weekend replaced my headlight bulbs after 9 years - the rest of the car is original including the brakes! (Not the tires though).
i had a model y performance, i didn't realise about the elctrocharomatic roof, but i'm glad when i got back to my model 3. also asked to get the performance download added to my model3. i yr in and 9k added from driving. love the model 3, the y is so so similar. (long range)
The Tesla model Y is the best selling car of any type world wide in Q1 to Q3 2923 for good reason it’s amazing value- sports car performance, great size and storage, sporty handling, it’s gets better over time with the software updates, it costs £6 to charge ( 9 p per kWh ) and gives 250 miles, no servicing costs, reliable charging network always works and is everywhere, brilliant software tells you how busy SC are ,the kWh price and will plan to take you to the sites which have free stalls. The only gripe is the suspension is on the firm side which has been changed in the latest version. Finally I had a couple of issues on warranty both got fixed on my drive by the Tesla Ranger . All in all it’s as fast and sporty as my old bmw m3 but cost neat to nothing to run. Go for a test drive if you haven’t experienced electric power- there’s a reason why it’s the best selling car of any type worldwide
Enjoyed the review (I have a Model 3). I know it's only 20 minutes and you can't capture everything, however the 1 pedal driving (don't lift your foot fully off the accelerator, the more you lift the more regen). Also a main feature you didn't touch on is the voice commands, you don't need buttons if you just tell the car what you want. Also (which most period on your channel will appreciate as they're car lovers) is sentry mode, surveillance when your car is parked and also footage of any accident (especially when companies just agree 50/50 if there's any doubt) footage giving clear fault 👍
Nice concept, well executed. Good job. I would comment that the Model 3 is fine with a dog if you are 3 people or fewer - we have a Labrador and she just has a bed on the back seat and we clip her to the seatbelt. Dog mode might seem frivolous to many, but it is genuinely transformative. I will not buy a car without it now. I made exactly the same choice as Andrew when we bought the 3: I tested the Performance, thought it was unnecessary and ordered the LR. And i drive it mostly in chill mode also, cos that really is quick enough and a lot more comfortable for the passengers. Andrew is exactly spot-on about how easy they are to own - we drove from central Norway to the UK (and back) this summer, and it was the easier than driving round with an ICE cos the car planned everything.
I have a 3, and a large 13 yr old 45kg dog who is arthritic, so can't jump onto the back seat. I solved the problem by removing the rear seat base, made a supporting frame with a panel covered in camper van lining material on top of it. His memory foam bed goes on top of the platform for long journeys. He is tethered to the isofix point behind the centre headrest. He has plenty of room there, so can effortlessly turn around, sit up or lie down, and bathedxwith cool air from the rear vents,he loves it! To get him into the rear I made a ramp, angled to match the door when open, that slots onto the platform, making it easy for him to get in and out. We recently took him on a 3800 mile return trip to the costa del sol (from the UK) in comfort. Yes, living with the Tesla is super easy and stress free, You are right about the the dog mode, it was a boon on our trip with external temperatures approaching 45 degrees. Like you say, I wouldn't buy a car now that doesn't have it. These small things make a huge difference to the ownership experience.
Drove a model Y recently. I sort of liked it…, the technology is superb but not sure I could live with one. After driving BMW and Audis for many years I didn’t like the cheap feel of the interior materials. However, after hearing about the Octopus charging it changes the game somewhat
I have a model 3 dual motor. I thought the Y just had bulbous proportions that didn't appeal to me. The perfect Tesla for me would be a model 3 Estate! 😊 I'm trying hard not to be a Tesla fanboy! But it's really good as shown here.
Hello Pedro. Many thanks for your advice and opinions on this EV. I actually brought my 2022 Model Y long range beginning of the Year and have driven up and down the country from Poole to Newcastle and absolutely love it. Comparing the prices with other EVs it does stand out ahead of the rest. Better Than Kia and Skoda.
What’s not to like about the light and sound show! I am firmly in the smug camp having owned a model 3 performance now for over 2 years. I agree it’s not the best made car but it absolutely is easily the best package! I one foot drive in sport mode with max regen and haven’t used the brakes since April, I’ve done 35,000 at a cost of less than £600. It’s incredibly fast but very relaxing to drive, service free, absolutely love it!
I've had an M3P since December 19 - similar story. The only thing that I really don't like is the wind noise at the top of the drivers window over 60 mph. Very annoying.
@@pauldoree3967 I don’t have any noticeable wind noise, with frameless windows I thought there would be, but no. I don’t know whether they changed the door seals when the changed the boot seal for MY20, but it must be fixable as mine is quiet.
@@H1WEX I’ve had Tesla change the door seal, and adjust the window angle - no improvement. I think it’s just pot luck, some do it and some don’t. I’ve heard the made in China ones are much better overall.
They are great but as per any product, some people will buy other brands because they prefer different styling, mechanical controls, ride etc. BMW, MG, Polestar, Nissan, Kia/Hyundai and a few Chinese brands due over soon will offer competition. All said, as Elon's brother Kimble recently said, they (Tesla) have hardly even started. So who knows what innovative rabbit they will pull out of their hat in the next year or two to keep the competition on their toes. Choice is good. Win win the EV revolution!
Have a 2023 Y, done over 8K. It's only the RWD, but even then it's still plenty fast. With Intelligent Octopus too, 7.5p , but also have solar, and the car has been handy for dumping access solar on sunny days. Superchargers are fanatic, been to London & Scotland, no issues. Not only that, there priced rather good, not as good as home charging, about 30p, but compared to other charging networks that's really cheap. Actually coming back from London the other day it was free, some special anniversary event was on, so all superchargers were free for the day. Tech is great, although Spotify is built in, I would love for Tesla to include TH-cam Music, of course I can just Bluetooth from phone, but it been in-built would just be a little bit nicer. I think with that CarPlay wouldn't be giving me much extra, as the Navigation is great, and the other apps like uTube etc work well. Yes drive does seem a little harsh on potholes etc, but saying that travelling to London / Scotland, felt very relaxing. My wife in previous car (Mercedes A250) going to Scotland would struggle with numb bum, etc. and arriving at destination everybody felt fresh. Handling, again for such a big car I was very pleasantly surprised here, especially as I came from a M250. The Tesla reminds me of Apple with the original iPhone, it was way ahead of other manufactures. This seems to be the case here too, but cars instead. Basically other Car manufactures really need to get together and sort out the charging network, it's currently a joke, they need to invest, and not rely on BP & none car manufactures to get this sorted, they don't care if the experience is sub-optimal. As you pointed out in video, there is Pet mode, there is also Camp mode, Valet mode, there is even a bio defence mode, if say you ever got caught in a bush fire maybe. The App is also great, the App that came with the Mercedes was just pointless, were with the Tesla, use it all the time. Eg. pre-cooling the car on hot days, or unlocking the car for our son to get in after gym, were I might still be shopping, he can then watch uTube etc while he wait, etc. As you saw the boot is very practical, and large. The frunk is actually pretty handy too. So am I happy with said car, yes. In fact to the point were if I did get another car it's likely going to be a Tesla again, I would just feel I was missing out / compromising on so many things otherwise.
model 3 more my size and I don't think I could put up with the model Ys looks however good. And I still wish they would add an instrument binnacle as per model S. the interior is love it or hate it for me
My biggest gripe with these is that open ergonomics dashboard. That being said, with BMW inexorably heading in that direction, perhaps I’ll end up with one after all at some point. Ah. No CarPlay. Scrap the above then, as that makes playing music from the phone so handy.
@@PetrolPed Only if one actually does already use Spotify. And not all of us do. Kind of feels like choice is being removed to a certain extent and how things CAN be done is being prescribed by these manufacturers. Cheers.
Regarding the harsh ride quality of the Y--you can get softer springs aftermarket to soften it. You just need to be careful because if an issue comes up Tesla might void the warranty if anything happens and can possibly be linked to that change.
But why do you have to source after market springs to sort out what is the most complained about issue with the Model Y. It's madness that Tesla have resolved it fully.
@@TheBronx_911 Where did you get that information? After writing the above, I did a lot of research and found one Tesla TH-camr who said that Tesla had made over 200 changes that effect ride comfort since the introduction of the MY. He said that he spoke directly with a Tesla engineer. However, reports of the suspension change in October seemed to be very conflicting. From what I can gather, it was a rumour that was never confirmed. Most people were putting 2+1 together and getting 4. The most common theme was that people were comparing the ride quality of an original MY against the latest one without considering that the change was an iterative process rather than a big bang.
Another great vid Pedro. Just a word to the wise about the Octopus tariff. The downside to the overnight cheap rate, is the higher day rate. I worked out a comparison for charging my yet to be delivered BMW i4, on our current tariff vs the EV tariff. The thing is, most of our energy usage is electric, so most of our usage would occur on the high day rate, and only charging would happen at night. So if we swapped to the EV rate, our bills would actually increase. Worth doing the sums before swapping. On our current tariff, charging the i4 would cost around £21 for 80kWh.
I was considering the night rate until I saw the inflated day time rate. May be ok for high mileage users however, but not if you do 100 miles per week.
What day rate are you getting for the standard tariff on Octopus? They sneakily make a point of hiding their tariff on their website making it impossible to compare.
I’ve had a model 3 long range for 16 months now and overall like it, but the family hate the choppy ride and it’s on 18’s, I’ve heard the Y is worse, I’d have to test drive one before changing. Our mazda6 tourer on 19’s is far smoother. The performance is great as is the cost or running and the build quality seems very good no dodgy panel gaps (mine was one of the first Chinese built ones in the uk. Just try before you buy and make sure you don’t mind the bobbly ride
2022 model 3 versions have a slightly softer ride than the older cars I had a 2020 model 3 from Fremont and now a 2022 and the ride is better. It is affected by the low profile ties a lot.
Driven a few...just doesn't compare to my Alpina 5 series in terms of quality, definitely miss the straight six engine. Can"t argue with the charging costs if I did more miles. And my 2003 E60 vented the cabin if it got hot by switching on the air con discreetly .
Great video - folks are talking about going electric so really helpful to watch this and hear from an actual owner. My go that party piece at the end - I’d buy the car just for that! Hilarious. What a great guy your friend is too - great sport to be on the channel and do the review with you!
Great review, and I can see the attraction...I do have a question tho, and it may sound silly to those who know.... This one pedal driving thing, when you lift off the torque demand pedal, do the brake lights illuminate to warn other drivers that you are slowing down or stopping?
Test drove one recently, very impressed, similar performance to our 335d xdrive (although not as much fun as our i20N ;) superb comfort, space and equipment. The question is would I get one over a Model 3 performance on salary sacrifice... the 3 handles better and I dont really need the extra space now the kids are grown up so probably not but a great car nonetheless
Isn’t the model Y about a second and a half faster to 60? This should be noticeable especially as there’s no lag or gear changes in the Tesla. Or noise:)
@@MrQwerty3000 No both Y long range and 335d about 4.8 to 60. Model 3 performance noticeably quicker than both and not far off 1000cc sportsbike quick up to 80mph.
@@joey-pn3xe depends what you’re used to, ride wise it’s no worse than a 335d or i20N and they’re both totally acceptable for me. The seats and ambience in the Y are very comfortable imo
60k, thats a problem for the majority of people in this country lets be honest. I am trying to like them but i think i would miss the theatre that my f type has. If i didn't tow a caravan and they were cheaper then maybe i would think about one. To put it into perspective my mazda cx5 was 36k new with heads up display, heated seats and steering wheel, tow bar, aw.d, leather. In other words a good spec car at nearly half the price of the model y. I dont see them ever coming down in price because they are selling them so they dont need to drop the price. I'm not a lover of the no dash but its diffrent if nothing else. My neighbour has a model 3 company car he hates it.
I recently went from Cayenne to the Y. In short I think its a great car. I run mine from my solar panels for free. I have no range anxiety and lets be honest here how often would you actually drive for 4 hours or more before taking a break? 95% of us would do a couple of hours and want a break. In the real world even with my lead foot that's roughly 160 miles range on a good day. Overall the Tesla is the complete package for an EV. Especially when you factor in the Supercharger network.
Great review and I totally understand the Tesla ownership proposition. Charging Anxiety is the biggest barrier to EV ownership (for longer distance drivers at least) and Tesla have nailed that. I have always said that if you forced me to drive an EV, it would have to be a Tesla. Except that I wouldn’t choose to. The Model Y ride, the build quality and the looks are my own personal barriers. But I get why it’s nails it for so many others!
I think the ride is awful, the build quality questionable at best, the sound system poor and to top it off it looks awful. While I'm not a EV fan anyway I can see why people buy them, but if we're eventually forced to have them I won't be looking at Tesla,. Regardless of the advantages you expect a manufacturer to get the basics right and it's not as though they haven't had the time to do it now. But the thing that concerns me most that is creeping in to car ownership is this subscription scheme, like the advanced autopilot which I believe is about 3 grand a year. I've seen other options on cars that are deleted unless you pay a subscription for them, like keyless entry. How long is it going to be before we're expected to pay a monthly fee for a whole list of extras like climate control, heated seats, cruise control and so on? And call me an old bore but that light show is just stupid.
@@-A-lm5xb The sound system isn't poor at all. It's excellent and I think the car looks pretty good too. I wouldn't bother with the advanced autopilot. My only gripes are the voice recognition isn't great (maybe it's my Australian accent) and the ride is a bit hard on rough roads. Overall the value for money of Teslas leaves dinosaur fuel cars in the dust.
Tesla's are great. Regarding the instrument binnacle - I've got a Born V2 and that has a HuD and augmented reality. I thought that was something I wasn't bothered about having but now I do it's brilliant. No need for a instrument binnacle then. So, I could see a HuD/Augmented reality being a great addition to a Tesla.
I love the charging network and alot of the features such as the cooling for dogs and the price of electricity on the right plan but the styling doesn't do it for me and the price is still too high for most people. Another good review Pete and hopefully saved you alot of editing!
Peter, I think the Model X party dance mode is so much better, esp. with the falcon doors going. I got used to the 1pedal after the first 15 mins. Apart from the build quality, only real gripe was the sun visors. As my last boss had 3 kids I thought choosing the white interior was a big mistake (proven after 18 mths 😁) as his first one had a tan interior.
They are made of a urethane material and are shockingly easy to keep clean. Practically anything just wipes right up with a little cleaning solution on a microfiber cloth
Other manufacturers have caught up in terms of performance and range but with better build quality and less of a focus on tech as and end in itself. And yet every time I see a Tesla in my locality it still catches my eye as being something special, possibly because of its understated nature?
They haven't caught up at all. They just put a bigger battery in to get range and performance. In terms of engineering Tesla still dominate by a long way. They also dominate in software, a crucial part of modern EV's. They have a reliable charging network that you pull up and plug in. No other manufacturers have this. With any other EV prepare to spend time downloading multiple apps and faffing with them every time you use public chargers. Then hopefully it works... Often it doesn't.
@@lighthousesaunders7242 Read the comment again which is restricted to performance, range and build quality, the last of which is sometimes commented on negatively by even the most enthusiastic of Tesla owners. But in my view, Tesla are to BEVs what SpaceX is to rocket development and still ahead in many other ways as you suggest, particularly if tech is of particular importance to the buyer.
@@thecapacitator8137 That is why I stated performance and range which is matched by several similarly priced BEVs. Agree about the other technology but the exclusive Tesla charging network is the main selling point in my view. @@briangriffiths114 VW is the next best selling EV manufacturer in Europe and by most reports they're slow and the software is terrible. I've never drove a petrol/diesel car and said the best thing is it says where nearest petrol station is. Honestly once again like the mach e stuff completely idealistic. Accept the shortfalls, also there's probably greener 90s subarus on road once battery mining, charging from fossil fuels (because its not windy and sunny all the time no matter what you think) beta max vehicle
Great review, waiting for a new white y in September! Great car, previously owned an X for 4 years. Build quality and range improvements are significant. The 3s and Ys for Europe come from China and build is much better. A great car and so cheap to run. Thx
The issues I have with any cars which accelerate 0-60 (aka 90 ft/sec) in 4-5 secs (why are cars still being measured and advertised in this way?!), can corner like sports cars etc etc, is that the standard of driving examination and the complete lack of ongoing testing means, as ever, that anyone who has just passed their test or who thinks they’re a good driver and can afford any car, can buy any car and can drive around as they ever did. So nothing changes for the better. The reason all of the driver assist/interference gimicks are built into most new cars, is because most drivers are little better than trained chimps and will not change or improve unless forced to do so. Give them cars which can out accelerate and out corner a sports car and this will lead to carnage. If I were Transport Minister, I would bring in graduated licenses and conditions for which cars a driver can have.
@3:00 glass roof is permanent tint, UV/IR protection, but not electrochromic... there is no adjustability (would be nice! Rivian toyed with the idea, but too expensive.) Fun interaction between you two :) and covered most important things! Wish @7:00 you had shown satnav & trip/charge planning , not just talked about it, and also voice controls ("navigate me to Heathrow" or something), when you mentioned ease of planning... that is really a key shining feature for Tesla vs other EVs, they don't do it nearly as well, especially given Tesla knows the live status/availability of all their own superchargers. Also you could have demonstrated AutoPilot @9:17 even on the narrow 2-lane road... not sure if it differs in the UK or not. Standard AP doesn't include the auto lane changing, but just dynamic cruise control and autosteering w/in your lane, works very well, all over.
If I go EV (and as a company car owner/driver, this is the way I'm being pushed if I don't want to spend a fortune in tax) then a Tesla for me and the mileage if do annually, is the only option. I'm not a fan or convert just yet but this is a good review.
I’d find build quality a bit irksome, I think. The shuddering sound when you closed the door said it all really. And the light show is just plain embarrassing, along with the fart noises. But the car makes a huge amount of sense- especially for the business driver. Nothing can rival the package that Tesla offers with its Supercharger network. Your friend summed it up well by saying it’s practical and easy to live with. Great vid as ever, thorough, informative and fair!
Great review, very enjoyable. But, what I want to know is if Smart Summon will let you manoeuvre the car in and out of a tight garage/parking space by just using a phone. Now that would be a party trick.
What a fantastic review. Only just caught up with it as I’m in sunny Cyprus this week. I collect my Tesla next week. I went to Crawley and drove the 3 performance and the Y long range. The Y is definitely the more practical car but for once I had a heart over head moment and went for the performance as it just made me laugh. So, Tuesday I get my new daily. It’ll be interesting running it along side my cayman 981 as they are opposite ends of the spectrum. I’ll report back! If you ever want a 3 performance for a review, or a 981 for that matter, just shout 👍
"I wouldn't have gone for the Autopilot" ... clarification needed ... all Teslas have Autopilot, it's not an optional extra. Your confusion is with the 2 advanced levels beyond the basic Autopilot which you can choose to pay extra for.: Enhanced Autopilot or FSD (Full Self Driving).
Oh I've just ordered one through my works scheme as it was on special offer. Looking forward to watching your review after I finish work ! 🚑 hope it's a good car 😬 👌
Great vid as always Pete. Great car. £3-£4 to ‘fill-up’ at home! Probably not far different if charging away from home. God, I wish I had £60k to play around with!! Love the light show at the end. Is that available on any of the other Teslas or just the Model Y?
It’s hugely more expensive charging away from home, Sean. Typical home cost is more like £7, make that £25 when outnabout I.e. Roughly the same cost as running a small diesel car.
Sat in the etron, cramped and dark, also the car has no idea of battery health, id4, same car recently went to reviewer, he couldn’t get the car to get anywhere near the range, it went back, VW had to take battery out and test it, it had a lot of faulty cells, car had no idea, Tesla knows how it’s battery is all the time, US expert Sandy Munro, who famously takes cars apart to investigate said Tesla tech is 10 years ahead of everyone one else. Really good looking car … love the whimsical Elon touches. Tesla white seats and new indigo jeans….. not a great combination in my experience. I’m not sure that I care if the video was done in one take or heavily edited though…. Enjoyed it regardless
I'll not be able to use these for now because I like buying my cars outright and use for many years. None of these lease or pcp where you drive around in a car that you know you cannot afford just to hand it back. See people looking smug in these despite the fact that they in all liklihood are driving a borrowed car 🚗. Don't know how they pull it off
50p per Kw give or take dependent on where the supercharger is. So £30 to add 60Kw which is a fairly average top up. Can be as low as 5p per Kw at home (but going up as we all know).
I'm an owner. Yes the overall owner experience is good, however, at least for the first MY's that came from China in Feb, the suspension is waaaay too harsh. I'm hearing that the newer deliveries are a bit better.
"300 miles for about 4 Pounds...I'm desperately trying not to be smug." That line had me cracking up.🤣🤣🤣
LOL 😂
depending on the time of day you charge , that’s misleading
Really, its cost me over £100 for 560 miles
I’ve owned mine for 4 months (replaced an X5 MSPORT)
Buy the “over the air” acceleration boost …0-60 4.2 seconds.
It’s an incredible car. I’ve done 12,000 miles in 4 months.
I can’t think of any other car under £100K that I would like.

How much does this ota upgrade cost please?
@@philipwoodford6286 for me, in Portugal, it was €1500 I think. *a bargain* given the transformation.

Had my Model Y just under 2 moths done 2000 miles and I love it best car I’ve ever had
Great to know 👍
I haven't dreamed of owning a car in decades. Now I'm saving to get a Tesla.
Had a Model 3 for just over two years and love it. Just beginning to get tempted by the MY - this helped greatly. Thank you.
Glad I could help!
Thoroughly enjoyed that. The whole one take thing brought an interesting dimension to it.
You could make a series of them called POT's (Ped's One-Takes)
Well done for not faffing with the door handles, everyone struggles with mine even after 9 months of ownership!
4 miles/kw wow 😮
@@PetrolPed on that trip back from Yorkshire it was 4.1/4.2 and that was in 12deg with constant showers.
I don't want to sound like a fanboy, I did have an Ioniq5 on order before I bought the Tesla, but when you can stick with Taycan Turbo/S upto license loosing speeds and get twice the efficiency you have to be impressed by them.
Just wish they looked more interesting!
Had mine since 6th July …absolutely brilliant car. Shanghai built ,its excellent .
Loving my 2022 MY now 8,000 miles
Awesome 👍
Yes, adaptive air suspension would make the Y a pretty much perfect EV imo.
Nice 👌
Great review as always Pete, and although I thoroughly enjoy watching your longer videos, I am confident viewers are always able to find 20 minutes in their day to tune in to PetrolPed. Perfect ! Cheers! Tom.
👍
Enjoy 😉
@@PetrolPed just picked up my Y today from Southampton, drove it back to Hayling Island, the ride seems better than the one I test drove at Fully Charged live, didn’t notice the crash bangs on pot holes
At last an honest comment on the position of the Speedo reading on the front screen. You DONT have to turn your head to see it! You just move your eyes just like you do for looking in your rear view mirror. I’ve never had to turn my head in my model Y either! Thank you 👍
👍
10 TESLA FUN FACTS:
1. It takes VW 3 times longer to make the ID.4 than it does for Tesla to make the MY
2. Each car Tesla makes is 6 times more profitable than a car BMW makes
3. Tesla overtook both Ford and GM this year in terms of profitability even though it makes less cars
4. At current rate of growth, Tesla will overtake GM in 2023 for total cars produced and Ford by 2024
5. At current rate of Growth Tesla will overtake Apple as the worlds most valuable company by 2025
6. Out of the 10 largest companies by Market Capitalisation, Tesla has grown your quickest/most over the last 10 years with a 70%+ Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR).
7. Tesla plans on continuing its growth rate by 50% CAGR (average) until 2030
8 Tesla’s publicly stated goals of producing 20m per year cars by 2030 would be double that of VW/Toyota who are the current largest
Had my first ride in a Tesla last night and I was very impressed.
👍
I thought you had nicked my car until I saw the white seats! Glad you liked it, mine is by a very long way the best car I have ever owned!
Nice 👌
Hey Peter, thanks for the party piece. I have never seen that before. Have seen bits of it, loved the windows.
Yeah. Impossible to get everything in 😬
Nice concept, well executed.
Yes, living with the Tesla is super easy and stress free,
You are right about the the dog mode, it was a boon on our trip with external temperatures approaching 45 degrees. Like you say, I wouldn't buy a car now that doesn't have it.
These small things make a huge difference to the ownership experience.
Wow. What a road trip 👌👍
I like the 3 but have dogs, like my mate in this video, so need a full open tail gate. Therefore the only option is the Y 👍
Better Than Kia and Skoda.
hows it doing now? looking into getting a used 22 Y long range AWD here in the usa
Wow 😮
I've had an M3P since December 19 - similar story. The only thing that I really don't like is the wind noise at the top of the drivers window over 60 mph. Very annoying.
@@pauldoree3967 I don’t have any noticeable wind noise, with frameless windows I thought there would be, but no. I don’t know whether they changed the door seals when the changed the boot seal for MY20, but it must be fixable as mine is quiet.
@@H1WEX I’ve had Tesla change the door seal, and adjust the window angle - no improvement. I think it’s just pot luck, some do it and some don’t. I’ve heard the made in China ones are much better overall.
what an amazing car I think Tesla will be the EV that everybody will be driving in the future.
Well done on the one take. Makes an EV review more interesting too.
Something a little different 👍
And I still wish they would add an instrument binnacle as per model S. the interior is love it or hate it for me
There is a retro fit one available apparently ;-)

Good to know 👍
My biggest gripe with these is that open ergonomics dashboard. That being said, with BMW inexorably heading in that direction, perhaps I’ll end up with one after all at some point.
Ah. No CarPlay. Scrap the above then, as that makes playing music from the phone so handy.
You just use Spotify 👍
@@PetrolPed Only if one actually does already use Spotify. And not all of us do. Kind of feels like choice is being removed to a certain extent and how things CAN be done is being prescribed by these manufacturers. Cheers.
When we went on test drive in Model Y, my mate had bluetoothed his iPhone to the screen and had Apple Music playing within about 30 seconds.
@@c0mbat15 Tesla heard you. In October they changed the suspension on all MY’s worldwide to a new softer, comfort suspension.
If you can get solar installed it could work. In fact if most of your leccy use is day time then solar (if practical) would be a no brainer.
@@alibro7512 ...too expensive to install with over a decade payback time for solar, not a great investment.
@@David-bl1bt I’m with M&S energy, through octopus. Current leccy is 27p per kW, so a full charge for 80kW will be around £21.
It is affected by the low profile ties a lot.
how cool is it that we the viewers get great test drives and reviews of the car we are looking at. Try finding that on many other brands.
Driven a few...just doesn't compare to my Alpina 5 series in terms of quality, definitely miss the straight six engine. Can"t argue with the charging costs if I did more miles. And my 2003 E60 vented the cabin if it got hot by switching on the air con discreetly .
Not many cars do compare to an Alpina 5 series 🤷♂️😜
Great video - folks are talking about going electric so really helpful to watch this and hear from an actual owner.

i need to talk to your pal and tell him how to get apple car play, i have mine on the raspery pi, its smooth, and a great experience.
Great review, and I can see the attraction...I do have a question tho, and it may sound silly to those who know.... This one pedal driving thing, when you lift off the torque demand pedal, do the brake lights illuminate to warn other drivers that you are slowing down or stopping?
Yes, they do
Yep 👍

They do indeed. You can just about see that during the light show at the end 👍
Top work Pete! That was fun and bang on time.

Love the video and good content as always. But how on earth is this one shot without editing?!
The timeline is one take but clearly I switch from camera to camera 👍
Great video thanks it’s a great car wife want a long range y in red but our 3 fits us ok
👍
Q.......when at a red light the car knows you are there and should not go forward, can you run a red light in a T ?
That sounds like a challenge 😂😂😂
The ending was absolutely unbelievable, I’m flabbergasted 👏👏
👍
Just ordered mines today on salary sacrifice scheme, i drive an ix3 just not, looking forward to a change.
I love the charging network and alot of the features such as the cooling for dogs and the price of electricity on the right plan but the styling doesn't do it for me and the price is still too high for most people. Another good review Pete and hopefully saved you alot of editing!
I was a bit quicker to edit but not much. The bonus was the time it took to film 👍
Cheaper to run than a Toyota Corolla
WELL Now the price is hard to pass up!
Fantastic your back on track
👍
Peter, I think the Model X party dance mode is so much better, esp. with the falcon doors going. I got used to the 1pedal after the first 15 mins. Apart from the build quality, only real gripe was the sun visors. As my last boss had 3 kids I thought choosing the white interior was a big mistake (proven after 18 mths 😁) as his first one had a tan interior.
👍
I always wondered how you keep the white seats clean?!
They are made of a urethane material and are shockingly easy to keep clean. Practically anything just wipes right up with a little cleaning solution on a microfiber cloth
Did I hear right the model y has heated steering wheel
I thought that was only available on model x and s
Yep 👍
Well, that’s me and Kate blown out of the water with the Finale. It’s a very tempting car to try and demo for a couple of weeks, gotta say. 👍👍👍🤜🤛🇬🇧
👍
Evening all! Happy Friday! Hope everyone is doing well and has a lovely weekend.
Yep. All good here 👍
Great review. No other EV manufacturer can come close.
Which other manufacturers have caught up? They are furlongs behind and the gap is growing.
You might be interested in Electric Vehicle Man's latest video where he is agonising whether or not to keep or change his Tesla and covers all the points we are currently discussing.
@@briangriffiths114 VW is the next best selling EV manufacturer in Europe and by most reports they're slow and the software is terrible. Have you seen the "Fully Charged" interview with engineer Sandy Munro? If not check it out. He's completely disassembled many EV's and done detailed engineering reports.
Very interesting. It woulld be nice to know something about maintenance costs on an annual basis. Road tax cost? Insurance cost?
I've never drove a petrol/diesel car and said the best thing is it says where nearest petrol station is. Honestly once again like the mach e stuff completely idealistic. Accept the shortfalls, also there's probably greener 90s subarus on road once battery mining, charging from fossil fuels (because its not windy and sunny all the time no matter what you think) beta max vehicle
Also while promoting octopus cheap rate for charging over night, please inform watchers daily rates are higher as a result of this
You can download other light shows for Tesla including the Knightrider theme tune.
Oh wow…I’ll let Andrew know 😜👍
Great review, waiting for a new white y in September!
Rivian toyed with the idea, but too expensive.)
Fun interaction between you two :) and covered most important things!
I think spending time with one might change your mind 👍
@@PetrolPed thanks Pete, I'm sure it will.
@@PetrolPed Agree Pete - first hour of ownership I thought I'd made a big mistake - after a day and a couple of hundred miles I knew I hadn't!
Thanks 🙏🏻
great video seriously thinking about a Tesla because of your videos
Go for it!
Great video we loved the one take filming. Brilliant review we learned a lot about the model Y - thank you !
Thanks guys 👍
If I ever have a Tesla the whoopee cushion would be on permanently….. I’ll never grow up ! Great review, really enjoyed it.
Me too 😂
I've seen it all now! Well done gentlemen!
😂😂😂
Great review, very enjoyable. But, what I want to know is if Smart Summon will let you manoeuvre the car in and out of a tight garage/parking space by just using a phone.
Now that would be a party trick.
Yep. It does that 👍
What a fantastic review.
Which Tag-Heuer model is that please?
Heuer Monaco Calibre 11 👍
Really nice balanced review. Thanks gents.
Our pleasure!
The Tesla looks smaller in the rear than the Cupra Born ? Is this the case?
I don’t think so
@@PetrolPed I haven't sat in a Tesla Y but it just looked smaller or similar.
I meant the enhance autopilot as fitted to the car being tested.
Oh I've just ordered one through my works scheme as it was on special offer. Looking forward to watching your review after I finish work ! 🚑 hope it's a good car 😬
👌
Yep. Good car. Not perfect but good 👍
Great vid as always Pete. Great car. £3-£4 to ‘fill-up’ at home! Probably not far different if charging away from home. God, I wish I had £60k to play around with!! Love the light show at the end. Is that available on any of the other Teslas or just the Model Y?
The model 3 and x has it also, not sure about the s.
On the X the Falcon doors flap up and down 😂
It’s hugely more expensive charging away from home, Sean. Typical home cost is more like £7, make that £25 when outnabout I.e. Roughly the same cost as running a small diesel car.
Hi, I think you will enjoy it. Add that to the reason to get a Model Y, what a light show.
Evening all TGIPPF 🍻
😂😂😂
How in the world do you get range anxiety in a country smaller than Texas??
Err because it’s more than 300 miles wide 😜😂
7 SEAT VERSION is not available in the UK
That last bit was cool. 😄
Evening sir, I am very torn between a Tesla and an Audi E-tron. Both have qualities I love. Great review guys, thankyou.
Collect my Y on the 5th sept
Really good looking car … love the whimsical Elon touches.
Tesla white seats and new indigo jeans….. not a great combination in my experience.
I’m not sure that I care if the video was done in one take or heavily edited though…. Enjoyed it regardless
Thanks Pedders. That's the first EV video I've ever watched all the way through. S'alright, better than most.
I’ll turn you eventually 😜👍
I'll not be able to use these for now because I like buying my cars outright and use for many years. None of these lease or pcp where you drive around in a car that you know you cannot afford just to hand it back. See people looking smug in these despite the fact that they in all liklihood are driving a borrowed car 🚗. Don't know how they pull it off
Good video. Can I ask.. How much does a charge roughly cost on a super charger ? £4 from home sounds fantastic.
Another stonking review. Which car do you prefer after driving them both, the Kia EV6 or the Tesla Y?
Tough one that. Prefer the EV6 interior to look at and sit in but the Y has some really cool features.
@@PetrolPed I think the exterior of the Kia is better too.
Interesting perspective with the 20 minutes no cuts.
Is the suspension as harsh as everyone says?
No 👎😜
