In Search Of the Abandoned Oasis Resort | Destination Adventure

  • While flying the drone for the previous video, I spotted this location on top on the mountain. It looked to be an abandoned resort, or something similar, but there was only one way to find out for sure, and that was to go see. Trying to find my way to the top of this mountain, I found more things that really peaked my curiosity than this abandoned pool, and I hope to pursue those stories asap. But I had to at least find this place, and finally see what it is.
San Ignacio is full of history, and I cant wait to dive into it all.

When you tell your bike don’t get stolen…your bike is probably thinking don’t get lost. Mud hut = adobe and know that in the southwest you expect to pay more for a house made out of it. LOL! I am really enjoying your fearless adventures in Mexico.

Mud Hut was hilarious. But yes, Adobe houses. My grandma's house and mother in law quarters was adobe. Still standing. 💐💕
I love this exploration and the eagerness to learn more about the history of a place. I find it crazy to see so many cactus and palm trees side by side for some reason.. both thrive in hot weather, just there's soo many! Beautiful place. 🤘🏆🥂💕

There's is so much more to the pool and why it is what it is.
I am an old Oaxaca and Chiapas traveler and have seen so much like it. Gringos will never quite understand it but a lot of it is the way money moves and gets done in Mexico.

Some ruins in Mexico appear older than they actually are. The reason for this is, in the rural areas especially, people use the same construction materials and techniques they used hundreds of years ago.

So true about the rains. Went to an old mining town near Squamish BC last weekend - closed in 1966 and almost no sign the town ever existed. Just the dam left from the original reservoir - though that intentionally blown as well. My last visit was 1992 and still had many buildings left, but all gone now.

Hey Dustin, neat video, but your ebike took a bit of a pounding. Amazing you drive it into some really tight spots. I think the first room you went into at the Pool was the pump room, as there were a couple of "pads" for the pump and motor with power feeds on the wall. Don't forget to use your tag line => Take nothing but Pictures, leave nothing but Footprints! It's your trademark.😉

Mexican people are some of the kindest most helpful and giving people I've ever met. Guaranteed if anyone r a crowd was nearby during that flat they would've been all up into helping him fix that tire situation. And they jump to help everyone enmass because that's what you are suppose to do and not for money. Then they'll invite you to eat and come to their home to meet their families. He's not in the USA.

When you have a fresh cactus and push the spikes into it and dry it, then you put some small beans inside, seal it and you tip it up and down the longer the better, as the beans go throw the spikes it makes the sound of rain. they call them Rain Sticks.

When I was spending time in San Miguel de Allende GTO, I was shown at least three places like this, which were would have been a great gift to the local kids and their families, but the operational money would inevitably be stolen by the local and regional politicians. It just pained me to see it! The Mayors were the worst; running on an anti-corruption platform which really meant "anti-the-last-family's-corruption-previous-to-mine"!
But before any commenters start hating on me, I am simply relating the opinion of not one, but three different local Mexicans; all independent thoughts, given freely by older and wiser members of the community.
P.S. Fast-forward eight years. The same cynicism and hopelessness is setting into D-dominated cities (mine included) in the US.

You need to exercise some extreme caution in your Mexican destinations and travels.
Last thing you want to do is inadvertently bumble into some local narco activity. Wondering around backroads and trails is not a very bright idea, regardless of how tourist friendly the area may be - at least not without some local for-knowledge/advice.
