I'm 60+. and remember my great-grandmother telling her story of going to San Antonio in a covered wagon. It took 2 weeks to get there and they visited for over a month, which was normal back them. She was a fantastic storyteller and she could get all of us kids to sit and not pester our parents for a while. This song brings back lots of memories.

I am 60+ and always enjoyed the stories of my elders. My siblings and I try to pass them down. My mom passed at 91, and she was a treasure trove on info on her and dad's families. Funny that now my stories of the past seem fake to kids: no cell phone, no computer, water from a hose when we played outside, hitchhiking seems outrageous, interracial marriage and gay lives were actually illegal in many states. I have lived a full and quite interesting life and always have a story to share.

I just lost my Grandmother April 27th and she was 97 1/2 years old. Born in 1925 and her memory was so sharp. She told me the best stories and explained old photos. The things she witnessed in her lifetime...wow She once told be that living so long was a blessing and a curse. A blessing for all you get to witness but a curse to watch everyone you love go before you. Treasures and memories are all we have.. ❤️

She was so spot on! Living can be so beautiful yet so painful. What a wonderful woman she must have been to be so honest, or maybe you, such a wonderful and understanding individual to be honest to.

People complain nowadays because the person at the coffee shop got their $7.00 coffee wrong, and these kids were working a cotton farm at age 11 to help feed their family. Some things don't change for the better.

I love your country reactions! I grew up on country music, so I love seeing people discover it for the first time. Country music is about telling a story. Any song by Thomas Rhett is a good listen. But if you want to cry, try listening to "the father, my son, and the holy ghost" by Craig Morgan. Or any patriotic country song for that matter.

Most times after hearing this song, I'll do just what you said. I'll get some black and white pictures out from when I was a toddler in the 1960s and reminisce. Both my parents and all of my grandparents are all gone now, so pictures and memories are all I have left. Good reaction.

Like 3 weeks ago I heard the coolest story that I have ever heard. And it's simple. But just in case the TLDR is this. ( Woman is terminally ill with Lyme disease and decides to go die peacefully in California. Instead she survived being swarmed by killer bees. The Bee venom killed the Lyme disease and cured her of her terminal illness)
A lady got bit by a tick and contracted Lyme disease. She didn't notice in time so they couldn't get rid of it it had spread too much in her body. That disease takes years and years to kill you. So she was terminally ill and getting progressively worse for 16 years. So she Decides to move out to California and just die peacefully at home in bed because she can tell that she's close. She hires a caretaker and does the move. And she lays in bed for like a week waiting to die.... But she doesn't. So 1 day she decides to take a walk around her new home and at least look at it before she dies. Is 2 blocks from her home, Her and her caretaker were swarmed by killer bees. The caretaker could run away but this lady was so debilitated all she could do was lay there and try to cover her face. She got stung hundreds of times and the attack lasted about a minute. She knew that she was deathly allergic to bees, And if you recall her whole goal is to die. So she has the caretaker but her back in bed to just die of an allergic reaction.
But she survived and the next day she felt better than she had in a decade. She felt so good she had the energy to actually research what might be happening. And she found one study from the 90s that said certain wasp and bee venom, in sufficient quantities, will kill Lyme disease.
And because of the nature of both things...... She was completely cured. The bee venom from all of those things killed the line disease in her body. And because the bee venom was working on the Lyme disease, it didn't affect her allergies so the bees didn't kill her either.

The speed of technological change has been insane. Think about the fact that a person born in 1900 was a child when the Wright Brothers flew their first powered flight. If that person lived to 1969, they would have been alive when men first walked on the moon. From the Wright brothers to the moon landing in one average human lifetime.

If you want a country artist who's storytelling will absolutely take your breath away you need to listen to the King. George Straight. I'd suggest my favorite song because the story and the video for it is sweet and a little funny and won't break your heart. "Seaside of Old Mexico". But ANY song of his is a masterpiece. We don't call him King George for nothing. If it's a female vocalist you want then you can do no better in this World than her Grace, our Living Legend and Saint, Dolly Parton.

I found an old trunk in the attic that was packed full of old family photos from the 1940's & 1950's. My parents wedding photos, my Dad & his brothers during WWII, my baby photos. I sat on the floor the entire day going through all those wonderful old black & white pictures. It was a very special day. ❤
