Any chance you can revisit using Enduramark engravable plastic on the D1 20W? Or maybe another brand like Rowmark Ultragrave engraving plastic on D1 20W?
For the lines you made at 5:17... use the rectangle tool and then when you make one line, hold "ALT+Shift" and drag the line down to make a copy, then click Control+D to duplicate and it will duplicate the line (Keep clicking "D" to duplicate as many times as you want). Then you draw the circle, select the circle and the lines, use the shape builder tool and drag it inside the circle and it will delete the lines that intersect. at 8:44 next time, move the text to the side, use your direct select tool and click and drag your mouse to select all the anchors at the bottom of the "L" at once and then with your down arrow button on your keyboard move them down together.
I used to love working with that plastic when I worked at a print shop. We'd use it to make signs for office doors, trophies and name tags for businesses.
so i got a sample of this when i ordered enduramark's powder coat cleaner. decided to try some stuff out just for S&G. i have a d1 pro 10w and landed on 800 mm/min, 100% power, 20 passes(this is on the blue color). it did "roll" the edge just a little bit, but i find it acceptable. it's a lot better than the slower speed/less passes. also the cut was a lot cleaner and smoother. i'm about to design a keychain just to see how long it would take to make one.
Hey nick, my father and I are considering buying a XTool laser and want the 20W laser. It seems a little redundant to buy the 10W laser then also buy the 20W module. Should we wait until the 20W system is just commercially available so we don’t have an extra 10W laser sitting around? Thanks!
Personally, I'd buy the 10w set up and get the 20w unit. That way if something happens you've got a backup. However, if you're looking for a 20w system...all I can say is coming soon... Cheers
Nick, I am waiting for my D1 to arrive, but I have a question. What happens when you engrave on plastic like a Disc Golf Disc? Can you get a good engrave to personalize them?
Hey, man! I was just wondering more about the walnut you used for the Camp Crystal Lake keychain. Did you get 1/8" and then glue it together like the plastic? Or just do it one-sided on 1/4"? I'd really like to make one of those for a buddy of mine. Thank you! They came out dope af!
@@BuildDadBuild could you recommend speed and power on a 20w diode for 3 ply pastic? I am trying to engrave some guitar pickguards but keep browning the middle white layer 🙁
Nick, Enduramark has their bases covered with the D1, their plastics all say "** CAN NOT BE USED WITH A FIBER OR DIODE LASER **. I'm betting with the right settings, I can with my xTool D1 (I've done it with Glowforge's branded acrylic, well, the black and green, not the clear, all i could do was turn the clear to goo where it met the tape).
@@BuildDadBuild I only have a D1 and I specifically bought it for this two-tone engrave and cut, admittedly not realizing white was a no go. Can you share your settings on the green cut? I have been unsuccessful in even breaking ground on the black and white for a cut. Thank you for your time.
Love your channel, Nick! Thank you for sharing all your knowledge. I’m wondering if the D1 can engrave on clear acrylic? Have you ever tried it? I looked through your videos but couldn’t find anything. Then again… I may have just missed it. 🤔
Can you purchase those Ozark keychains? My home health aide is a huge fan of the show and she never takes gifts from me, but she could not say no to this. I don't have a laser yet or I would make it myself. Thanks for the great video and the laughs!

You could put an NFC tag in between the 2 halves before glueing too!

Nick, are you demoing the 1/17" material? The keychain material looks a lot thicker than that. Thanks

xTool's standard answer to this is to buy a 5w kit, and then buy the 20w laser... then you'll have a 5w sitting a round. :P

I suspect the 2W IR laser head for the S1 would do a good job on the plastic.
Hey man, love your videos! Question: When cutting the Enduramark with the 10w D1, did you have the air assist on? Just curious. Thanks!
Honestly? Now that I think about it, I think that was before I got the air assist. So...off...

Make sure to check your MSDS when engraving plastic. A lot of plastics create harmful toxic fumes and can even damage your machine.
Working away here in the shop and watching a great selection of your videos! Thank you! Thumbs UP!
Awesome! Thank you!
Cheers!
have you checked it on the 20W diode yet?
Yes
Excited to try the shiny silver/black combination. Just placed my order with your discount code. Thanks for saving me some $$!
You think some painters tape would help with the D1?
Sure
Hello. How much for this laser machine? Anyone know of any affordable machines that will cut custom names in to name plates?

I just use 1/8" walnut. I don't glue 2 pieces together like the plastic (I only do that so the key chain is the same color on both sides).

@@BuildDadBuild Thank you so much!
Hey brother, any chance you can share your setting for these engravings? Thanks!@
Unfortunately, I no longer use the Muse Core...so I don't have access to the settings.

No idea on a diode. I don’t think it’s rated for diodes.

That green reference panel I show in the video was done with the D1.

@@BuildDadBuild hi, what were yu parameters for cutting the green sheet? power, pases speed
Will this work with Ortur Laser Master S2 Pro 5.5 watt
Probably not.
This is pretty badass!! All great shows
The intro caught me off guard 😂
Can I do this with my D1Pro 20w? I literally cannot find someone making this kind of thing with a diode
Yes. It just takes longer.
Can this be done on regular styrene sheet?
When in doubt check this site:

Hey Stuart!
You can engrave on clear acrylic if you use a transfer agent like tempura paint.
You can not cut clear acrylic.
Cheers!
Thank you, I’ll give that a shot!

So are the Black Core ones better with D1?
I've only worked with the white core ones (aside from engraving the samples). Not sure if the black would cut better. Maybe?
Cheers
What if you did wood but painted it and then used the d1?
I guess you could!
Cheers
I think you need to understand that I am now saving money to buy a cnc laser combo because of you. Lol. My bank account..maybe not so much.
Awesome!
You'll dig it!!

bought the xtools d1, and its your fault. used your link as well.
Awesome. You'll love it!
