    My biggest issue with this series is that there is utterly no explanation of what happens or any logic whatsoever. Its always something random like the magic bungie cord is just so good at fixing it can drag around the god of death that spent thousands if not millions of years gaining strength and then destroying all life on earth. Or how the mom reveal was so built up and then it was just because it was important to ruby? Like the premise of 73 yards is so fascinating and yet, even though i love a mystery, there is no clues as to what the real answer is. So many interesting premises thrown away due to lazy writing.

    • @sianirl
      @sianirl  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @@youfoundwaldo77 yes I completely agree! It seems like a strange mix of trying to draw in a new audience and spoon feeding lots of information, but then other storylines have no explanation at all, like you said!

      However this is all very intentional so while if it wasn't i think these would be issues, since it is I don't think so. The point of 73 Yards for example is leaving things up to interpretation! The mystery makes it work as well as it does. And the Intelligent rope works because it was set up with the Intelligent gloves which we first saw at Christmas, it's basically a Chekhov's gun! If it came out of nowhere I would agree but it doesn't.

      It's funny that the opposite of lazy writing was what had made Doctor Who good. Generally speaking, you weren't left with having to interpret yourself- some gap in the storyline! This series sounds horrible, won't be watching.

    Imagine if it was even implied that the doctor went around jumping from planet to planet looking for Rogue before Sutekh made an appearance. Then they wouldn't have to say that Sutekh had been there since Tom Baker. The fact that the doctor had been jumping around space and time so much for his search would make the death trail magnitudal enough and they could've said that Sutekh boarded the tardis during wild blue yonder or smth which would explain why Susan has only been noticed throughout this season.
    I think if the demise of everything was directly tied to the doctor's determination to save someone he allowed himself to have a connection with, it would have a massive impact on him and the audience witnessing his anger.
    This would also explain why Sutekh decided to show himself now as opposed to it being completely random after 40 or so years of television

    You could trivially justify a musical episode of Doctor who. The tardis has telepathic translation. They land in a city that has its own universal translator covering it. Feedback loop ensues, and they have to untangle the mess before it fries everybody's brain. There's an episode. No magic, gods, or fairy circles required.

    Like you, I was over the moon when RTD was announced as returning and I liked NCuti Gatwa’s in Sex Education so I absolutely believed this would be the Golden Age of Doctor Who part 2 (the 1st Golden Age being RTD’s first round when we also had Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures and the amazing Season 4 Who finale with all 3 series crossover! There was no doubt in my mind it would be spectacular! Sadly I was very mistaken. And the biggest culprit is the thing I had absolutely zero concern about: RTD’s writing! Whereas RTD has always seemed a genius with his writing, easily mixing sound, logical Sci Fi with powerful emotions and real characters; aspects that sadly are missing from most sci fi and especially the past few series of Who. But this series is an utter mess. Logic is non-existent, rules are arbitrary and tend to be the “because I said so, but for this scene only” style rules. What is a show stopper in one scene can literally be solved by a sudden realization and a line of techno babble in the next. Doctor Who is no longer “Sci Fi” as there is no Science whatsoever, no logic, no adherence to the real world and the “fiction” aspect has become pure Fantasy but not anything coherent or meaningful; it truly smacks of poorly written fantasy fiction. As someone else said, it is like a bad AI version of RTD wrote all of this series and RTD was distracted or recuperating or in a coma somewhere. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING makes sense.It looks good enough, most of the time, (I do NOT think Sutekh looks impressive, the Helmeted motionless being was infinitely more effective than a CGI space jackal that can move…but doesn’t for some reason, just staying wrapped around the TARDIS before being chucked back into the Vortex to defeat him…despite him hanging around the TARDIS in the vortex being the way he achieved his evolution into a god to start with. It’s all utter bollocks. I dont know what happened to RTD between his first stint on WHo and this one - but it’s like comparing a true talent to someone who suffered significant head trauma and resulting severe neurological deficits. Please RTD give the writing duties to others before the series dies. I fully expect Disney to drop their funding or rather not renew it for S3. The production looks mostly great, the acting is mostly solid, it absolutely comes down to the writing or lack thereof.

    I have lots of different feelings about the season. I mostly agree with your lineup (don't like 73 Yards as much, but that's a minor quibble), and I'm very guarded for the next season. I don't entirely hate that Ruby's mother was a nobody, but the writing didn't justify why she was so mysterious. Rose Tyler was a nobody until she broke the TARDIS. Donna Noble was a nobody until she caused a metacrisis. Clara Oswald was a nobody until she jumped into the Doctor's time stream. Linda should have at least been the plaything of one of the gods to justify why various investigators couldn't learn anything about her unless you broke the rules of time and space.
    As for enduring the Chibnill era, I'd be kind of interested to see you review it, but having endured the first series of his, I wouldn't inflict that on anyone unless they really wanted to.

    Surrealism is fine as a concept, but whose? Some people have the gift of surreal imagery, they have a talent for it. The Dr Who writer/showrunner does not. On the Dot and Bubble "race" episode, wouldn't it have been ten times more effective in the battle against racism to simply write a black doctor throughout the series as capable, strong, reeking with integrity, gravitas and wisdom, instead of a dancing, promiscuous, emotionally unstable, ineffective twonk? Another question: Isn't it telling that the best performing episodes were the ones without the Doctor in them?

      RTD wrote Martha & Mickey in a similarly pathetic way. I saw the pattern all the way back then.

      Did you even watch the series? This Doctor is strong, capable and charismatic.

    I hate this era so much, rubbish Doctor, rubbish acting and character. No emotional baggage but I’m also going to cry every episode, generally look and act weak AF, have zero authority, disappear for two episodes, have no chemistry with anyone I meet and snob random men I’ve met twenty minutes previous. Go away. Absolute train wreck of a series.

      @@friendlyotaku9525 so this is the Doctor we are told has no emotional baggage, that is true. The idiot then cries in how many episodes? 6 or 7 is it? So another true point. Acts camp, and looks completely authority-less, runs around scared, cries, has to hang onto Mel on the back of her motorbike like some weak companion who has to be saved. So….generally looks and acts weak is….true again. Disappear for two episodes? Two Doctor lite episodes so, oh look true again. Snogs a random man he’s met twenty minutes previous. Well….the snog happened, he met the guy about 20 minutes previously so oh look true again.
