What a fun project!! I love seeing napkins used but have yet to give it a go. I discovered a fabulous decoupoge napkin seller in Etsy over the holidays and treated myself quite lavishly, so I now have a basket full...guess I have no excuse now! 😏

Fingers were invented before brushes and other tools. Absolutely love what you have done with these pages, amazing . I’ve never tried “mixed media” before but I think after watching you I might have a go. Wish me luck. Lol. X

Such a pretty spread! Be sure to clean your brushes well with soap and water after using acrylic paint because it dries very stiff and does not reactivate with water after it is dried.
Acrylics are a very flexible medium. You are using them like watercolor, which is fine, but they are designed to be mixed with white to lighten. This is not to lecture you, but to save you some frustration in blending.
I hope you enjoy your journaling as much as I enjoy watching you work.

I know what you mean Debra, it seems a little intimidating because there seem to be so many different products and techniques. However, I recently watched a Tim Holtz video, and he was encouraging just going for it, and playing around in your own style that suits you, so I am going to take his lead and just play in my own way, even if my techniques are a little off!! Lol . Go for it, what's the worst that can happen? x

I love to use children's books, there are just so many pretty pictures in them, if some of yours are falling apart then they would be perfect to use x
Your pages are really nice!
When it comes to art journaling, even if I’m using gesso, I have learned to put paper (I use magazine pages) behind the pages I’m working on. Especially if one uses brush markers, a lot of things penetrate through. I often end up making inadvertent marks on the edges of the paper underneath, or spreading bits of glue there. It happens if the top page moves, or the brush catches the edge of the paper, or I’m working off the edge (which I do a lot). If I do have any leakage I didn’t expect, I paste clean paper onto, or gesso over the back of the page in order to use it.
Doing this is so much fun! Especially since I haven’t done any art since I graduated HS. I’ve found a lot of people haven’t had time, inclination, or thought they needed a lot of money for supplies and are, in later life, finally getting around to doing some art. Art journaling is a nice way to ease into art. It can be wholly intuitive and is meant to help us express our feelings, or whatever we wish to express. Or we can just enjoy the moment! It also can be a peaceful relaxing thing to do. One exists wholly in the moment. Although I do challenge myself to step outside my comfort zone, which make me a bit nervous too. Since I have anxiety I had to put a stop to that thinking. I decided not to worry, so what if it looks awful? Not the end of the world. I just move on, or try again. You can gesso over the entire mess, or tear out that page or pages. In fact, most of what I do right now is outside my comfort zone. Because I have no idea what I’m doing with most of my art supplies! It’s fun learning and trying things.

I really love this Tina. I've been watching this on TV while man in fixing Combi boiler. My book, napkins, paints and other bits and pieces will be coming out as soon as he's gone. You really do give us some amazing Inspiration. We have been getting snow up here and it's quite thick. The kids are enjoying it. Lol

Hi Tina - I worked in an art supply shop for some years so I know about all this stuff. Found this for you. I am painting my own papers now and just bought some. Usually it's used for canvas however. You did fine with the inexpensive acrylic. It's all melted plastic spoons! The cap should have a piercing thing on it like toothpaste. Hugs on Friday. Jackie

Hello again Tina, turned out really nice, the colors look awesome. And by the way look at the top or lid of the paint, see the center thing with the point? Well that is what you use to open the paint tubes😁😉 great pages.

Just an fyi: with the paints in the tubes, the top side of the lid should have a point in it, its there to pierce the tube. Just push it down on the tube and flip the top and screw on the cap!

I think you did an amazing job! We find out things by experimenting. You may have found something doing it your way that others may not discover, therefore, I don't think there is a right or wrong way.

There is usually a piercing point in the reverse top of the lid to use to open the paint tubes. Love what you are doing. I’m still a bit intimidated to do the experimenting.

Firstly use the lid to pierce the tube of paint and second use a Matt medium to dilute the paint and not water as water dilutes the paint and matt medium extends the paint.... lovely colours
