This looks like a lot of fun. This would be a fun project for you and your sweet daughter to do together, Give her a pile of scraps and let her just do her thing and it would be so fun to see what she does with it.
you have been so inspiring!!! I am going to spend today making such a journal...with some rules for myself. Put a pile of scraps to my side. MUST go top to bottom in order...not questions. I will then gesso over what I don't like. This book will be my next art journal but it will be entirely institutional. I must learn to stop over thinking!!!
Yes, another lady mentioned the Kylie Coo and Nina Ribena collaboration videos, I will be sure to check them out. I am thrilled that you are going to make one of these, great method you will be using by the sounds of things, love the idea of just gessoing over any bits you don’t like. Have fun x
I'm watching both videos and wanted to say thank you. Both her original and yours are lovely and so different, even though the process was nearly the same. It's so important to have a relaxing craft, for de-stressing these days. I expect I'll be tearing a cardboard box up tomorrow. Again, thanks for the inspiration. 😷
They are really different aren’t they? I think that’s what is so awesome about our crafting, we can all draw inspiration from the same idea, but they all come out so differently. Have fun with yours x
You are such an inspiration! What a fantastic way to relax!! This is so far out of the box for me. We all need a challenge, and this is a perfect one for me! Thank you, Tina!! ❤️
Oh Tina!! You’re just so funny with that black gesso!! As much as you got on your hands, I was so worried about your sleeves! I no longer work with long sleeved shirts on, I’ve ruined a bunch dragging them through ink, paint & glue! I can hardly wait to tear up a cardboard box, I think I have one in the garage. Yours is already really pretty! And so much fun! I think whatever you do next will be really lovely! Oh wanted to mention that Tim Holtz recommends using a plastic spatula instead of a metal one for the very reason you mentioned: catching & tearing the plastic design of the stencil! Thanks so much! Take care!
One thing I learned when stenciling on walls was to use a pouncing method. If you rub, the paint will get under the stencil. On the other hand...the palette knife seemed to work great too! These really are turning out lovely!
Love this Tina. its amazing plus your recycling so even better. I am really looking forward to see you play with this.......have a great weekend. xxxxx
What a great way to recycle your cardboard and scraps, absolutely love the Black Gesso and of course the white, looking forward to seeing how this progresses. Thanks again for sharing this wonderful tutorial. X
I’ve just watched the original and although I liked the final result I prefer yours and the way you present your videos, i love the chat and the fact you dont fast forward or edit things out when they don’t go according to plan. Xxx
I like this project! When I do mine I think I will add some writing paper or card for adding to it. Maybe quotes and some photos. I certainly have enough cardboard. TFS!
LOVE this idea, Tina and loving your take on the chunky cardboard journal and can't wait to see the decorated/embellished pages! Love all the stenciling too! Hugs X
This is so great, I made one, themed with things I like, and it was so much fun to make. I like how yours turned out, and I loved the idea with the pages in matching colours
Great way to use cardboard, must try it, although I’d probably end up with just more journals Not to Work In! I do admire the way you continue if things get messy, I think I tend to give up too easily. Black gesso is difficult to work with, I find modelling paste easier to work with in stencils, but of course you get a raised effect which I love. I had a right mess the other day when I used gold gesso, I get in just as much of a mess as you, never mind, it’s all good fun! Going to watch the next episode now, thankyou for sharing x
BEAUTIFUL 🤩 wow ,, your pages with the colors & the black gesso which I’ve never used made it look so stunning. Will have to buy the buy the black now. Excited to see how you will use it. I definitely want to give this go!! Thanks for sharing. 🥳❣️
Love this project, Tina you can score the cardboard with a box cutter, bend it backwards, it will sometimes break apart or almost. If it doesn't break all the way you then simply score the other side, easy peasy. I do use a straight edge when scoring. Thank you for another awesome project!!
Firstly love your handle ! truly imaginative inspiring artwork and love every bit of it,the techniques are tactile and robust,as for thick black gesso simply yummy and worth the mess for the end results, out with some cardboard now to have a go,thank you for producing this.
What a great way to use all this massive cardboard we ended up with during the Amazondemic 🤔. I've already collected rolls of packing craft paper, collected the most sturdy boxes for storage, repurposed the envelopes for ephemera...why not use it for art board, lol. What other things can I do with it? My recycle bin is always overflowing. Nice work, Tina ❤ ...forgot to mention the grocery store bags with images I cut out. The 1 inch thick cardboard that I use to dry my tea dye paper, and the tissue paper my family just hands over to me when opening their boxes. Lol. It's just so nuts
Lol, I did chuckle at the Amazondemic, you summed it up perfectly! Haha. Yes, sometimes it does feel like we’re drowning in all the things that we are trying to reuse. Have fun x
I love your videos... and I am apologizing up front for laughing at you!! I do feel guilty!!! But you so remind me of me...!! I love the way you just go for it, come hell or high water, you keep trudging on! You make my day! Keep the messes coming... we who can relate, relish the fact that we have a commrade in arms in the world of black gesso and stencils! Thanks for being you.... ! Oh yeah, and your projects all turn out wonderfully!
Oh thank you so much Suzy. I love that you can relate to my messy crafting! I am in awe of those who can just craft away with no mess, and also who don’t seem to have any problems with the likes of black gesso........lol. Thank you 🤗🙃 x
Great! I had never heard of black gesso. Very cool. All I need to do is order some from Amazon so I can get the packaging to start! :). Fun video Tina, hugs and blessings, :)
How dramatic is that black gesso, can’t wait to see how yours turn out, but will watch the original while we wait. Absolutely amazed that you didn’t get any black gesso over your lovely jumper lol. Xxx
Tina, I just LOVE you so much!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. I fell asleep last night just as you finished preparing your pages, and although the vid played out I had no idea how the story ended, so to speak. I poured my coffee and picked up where I'd left off and within ten words I hear you say, "black gesso"! ... I was so excited I nearly had coffee everywhere, just like you and your gesso. Girlfriend, all I EVER use on anything is black gesso! It's the best thing since sidewalks, I tell ya! Yeah, it can be a tad messy but you will absolutely learn to love it and any (any!) mess you make with it will be worth it. Heck, I'll drive over and tidy up after any gesso incident you may create. Please oh PUH-LEEEEEZ would you take is down gesso street?? I'll be second in line, right behind you, carrying the flag. Love, love, LOVE, MK ♥️🌞🌵 Excuse me now, I need to go pour s'more coffee... I've got a real mess here.☕🤗😘❤️❤️
Lol, oh as always I love your upbeat funny comment! Yes, that black gesso, oh my goodness, I just love it, definitely on my list of new favourite things! Thank you as always for making me laugh. Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend x
Great idea, I’ve always got plenty of cardboard hanging about so might have to try this. Tina I use silicone make up spatulas for spreading glue, paint etc and they work well with stencils too. You can get a set of 4 for £4 on Amazon if you fancy giving them a go take care xxx💕
Hi T, LOVE LOVE LOVE these Fabulous!! Laughing before you saw the lid protector lol... These are great.. So happy you're exploring this road... YEAH!!! So, as for me you would be happy to know I finally got some stuff done while recovering a minor surgery... i put stuff together and did over 15 yards of mini snip-its... why I have no clue... but like butter it just went through my sewing machine ... Yeah NO!! after I took my foot off the pedal... the machine Crapped out! The light is on and no one is home... DEAD!! So discouraging idk if it's the foot pedal or the motor... it was running like a champ too. uggghh... So this looks fun typing while the white gesso dries Love me some Black gesso... Your stencils are too die for... I might make a couple to play... well at least I got a lot of sewing done... cards, tags, booklets, pages, ruffles, outlining tucks.. etc. I can't win.... just GRrrrrrrrrrrrrrr uggghh! Oh I did those toppers too... it's what I added the slow stitching too... and totally agree fiddley... but I used a 6 inch needle made it easier... poke and pull... lol Well, hopefully something good happens after this loss... frustrated and baffled....I'm still here though... okay well paints dry time to play a bit before the pain meds wear off and I loss my will...lol xx~J
Lol, as always you had me laughing whilst reading your comment. So sorry that your sewing machine is not working, gosh I just hate it when things like that happen. I haven’t ever done any slow stitching, I can’t imagine how fiddly that must have been. Despite your sewing machine issues, it sounds like you are having a lot of fun, and have been REALLY productive! Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend x
Hey Tina..hope your good...what a super cool idea...love it...another project to add to my growing list of journals to make...(it's seems i cross a finished project off my list,,,but then add 2 or 3 more...lol)... looks like alot of fun.. something that my daughter and i can do together...😊♥️best wishes from qld Australia...Michelle xo
I love this! Love the way cardboard looks when you peel one layer off and the corrugated part shows. Did you hear me scream at you just before your stencil went onto the black gesso lid lol! Black gesso & a white sweater - I swear you almost gave me a heart attack several times LOL! Can't wait for the next part working with this! Take care & stay safe!
Love this idea! Definitely going to give this a try. Yours is looking lovely, I can’t wait to see how you finish it. It’s such a shame you only put up one video a day😉💖.
Oh my goodness Tina! This is just gorgeous!!! Very inspiring, I just might have to try it! Loving the black gesso! Might have to put that on my wishlist 😉 You really do amaze me in the projects you come up with! Thank you so much for sharing! I can’t wait to see how you use your art journal! Very exciting! Have a wonderful day! 🥰
Thank you so much Tonya, yes isn’t that black gesso just awesome? It’s going to be a new favourite thing of mine that’s for sure. Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend x
Tina I love this project and all the grunginess of it. I want to try this with all my scraps that seem to multiply on their own in my drawer! The black gesso looks wonderful but I have none. I wonder if you can color white gesso with paints??? Super fun idea! Thanks so much. Blessings to you and your family.
Thank you MaryAnn, yes definitely give this project a try. I had never seen black gesso before, but oh my gosh I LOVE it so much, it might just be one of my new favourite things. I have seen others colour their gesso with paints, so it's definitely worth a try. Yes Barbara over at 49dragonflies is super clever isn't she? She does wonderful mixed media stuff. I might have to see if she has put her recipe up anywhere for her gesso. Have fun and a lovely Sunday, much love to you x
I had to "breakdown a large television box ". It makes it easier to just fold on both sides then cut. Just courtesy tip. I use a utility knife and straight edge.
Great idea Tina, you have inspired me to give the cardboard journal a go. I am in the uk , and I struggle with finding the right glue. What glue do you use ? Also where do you buy your plastic bottles with the metal tip.?
Oh thats fantastic, have fun with your cardboard journal. I use Anita’s Tacky glue, I get it from the Range. I got the easy squeezy bottles from Amazon, if you search Sugarbelle icing bottles x
Your style can be described with all sorts of fun words, but random is just not one of them. From the beginning, the thing she did to her pages was to take one piece of paper and add a torn part of it to most, if not all, of her pages both front and back. She continued this with other papers, paint, stencils, stamps, etc. rather than doing one page at a time. I realize you are not trying to duplicate her work, but to use it as an inspiration in making your own. You just cannot avoid your matchy matchy way completely, but that is what makes up your individual and unique style. Just do you.
Thank you Jean, yes you’re so right. We can draw inspiration, but it’s hard to not go with our own natural instincts........ and yes mine is definitely matchy, matchy, lol x
Looks like a lot of fun! I always love your colors. Tyfs! 🤗🥰
I love your version of this journal. I think that its your choice of colors
Fingers were made before anything else. Best crafting tool there is!!! Crafting is all about mess!!!! Love this
Lol, thank you x
Amazing! What an eye appealing piece!
I love, love it!!! You are a true joy to listen to~ 💕🥀☀️💕
Thank you so much! x
This looks like a lot of fun. This would be a fun project for you and your sweet daughter to do together, Give her a pile of scraps and let her just do her thing and it would be so fun to see what she does with it.
That is such a wonderful idea, maybe a project for the weekend x
I love Kylie Coo and Nina Ribena, individually and together
you have been so inspiring!!! I am going to spend today making such a journal...with some rules for myself. Put a pile of scraps to my side. MUST go top to bottom in order...not questions. @@shabbydabbydoodah thank you. I look forward to watching your progress
I agree they look totally different with just that paint. You my dear have impressed me. That black gesso is awesome.
Thank you so much Sherry. Yes how much do you just LOVE that black gesso? X
Was not sure about the black gesso until the sooty smudges with wetwipe pure genius I love it too.
Thank you so much x
I'm watching both videos and wanted to say thank you. Both her original and yours are lovely and so different, even though the process was nearly the same. Thanks! I am having fun. Just finished the first paper layer.
You are such an inspiration! What a fantastic way to relax!! This is so far out of the box for me. We all need a challenge, and this is a perfect one for me! Thank you, Tina!! ❤️
Oh that's fantastic Jan, it was really far out of the box for me too. Hope you have fun with yours x
Great scrap buster, both, paper and cardboard! I find it very hard to random also. Looking good so far!
You are so good at decorating. Wish you would do some teaching videos on how to decorate. The do & don't tricks.
The black gesso really makes a statement.
It’s gorgeous isn’t it? X
Lovely. It's meant to be fun and not serious, so just go for it 😄 great project 👍🏻
Oh Tina!! You’re just so funny with that black gesso!! As much as you got on your hands, I was so worried about your sleeves! It's so much fun watching you work😄and you come up with beautiful pieces.

Thank you so much Florence, I really appreciate your sharing your tips c
This is very different and pretty. I didn't even know that they made black geso.

Oh thank you so much Heather, that’s awesome to know x
I like this project! When I do mine I think I will add some writing paper or card for adding to it. Maybe quotes and some photos. I certainly have enough cardboard. TFS!

They're really fun aren't they? Sometimes it's nice to just do something for the sheer fun of it, isn't it? x
Wow I absolutely love this. You are doing a fantastic job. You just have fun. And enjoy the process. It’s looking amazing.
Thank you so much x
I love it, Tina! Great to use up packaging and scraps. And I'm ordering black gesso... Thanks Mx
Thank you, oh you’re going to love the black gesso x
Love this idea. I did laugh a couple of times as like me, what I do ends up being messy but oh so much fun!
Lol x
Looking forward to the next video
Love it. I too get messy crafting. I watch kylie coo too and nina ribena when they have their videos togather. Xx
Oh thank you for mentioning the collaboration videos, I will check them out x
Love it. I enjoy mix media. I have distress crayons. I’d love to see somethings with that too.
Thank you, I will have to look at distress crayons, I haven't come cross them before x
Yes, I saw the same video today and I loved it. It came out amazing. I’m sure yours will too. 👍🏻
Wasn’t it just awesome? X

Love how this is going! The black gesso is always a bit messy, but it sure is striking when applied. Beautiful work!
Thank you Angela, yes I am LOVING that black gesso x
BEAUTIFUL 🤩 wow ,, your pages with the colors & the black gesso which I’ve never used made it look so stunning. Will have to buy the buy the black now. Excited to see how you will use it. I definitely want to give this go!! Thanks for sharing. 🥳❣️
Oh thank you so much April. Yes, how awesome is that black gesso? Love it soooooooo much. Have fun with your cardboard art journal x
Love this project, Tina you can score the cardboard with a box cutter, bend it backwards, it will sometimes break apart or almost. If it doesn't break all the way you then simply score the other side, easy peasy. I do use a straight edge when scoring. Thank you for another awesome project!!
Thank you so much Karen, awesome tip I will be looking for a box cutter x
Firstly love your handle ! truly imaginative inspiring artwork and love every bit of it,the techniques are tactile and robust,as for thick black gesso simply yummy and worth the mess for the end results, out with some cardboard now to have a go,thank you for producing this.
Oh thank you so much x
Lovely project- looks like fun.x
Great project! The black is stunning on the pages. Look forward to see you working in it! 💕
Thank you so much Jo Ann x
What a great way to use all this massive cardboard we ended up with during the Amazondemic 🤔. I've already collected rolls of packing craft paper, collected the most sturdy boxes for storage, repurposed the envelopes for ephemera...why not use it for art board, lol. What other things can I do with it? My recycle bin is always overflowing. Nice work, Tina ❤

Lol, I did chuckle at the Amazondemic, you summed it up perfectly! Haha. Yes, sometimes it does feel like we’re drowning in all the things that we are trying to reuse. Have fun x
This is brilliant! Tfs. Can’t wait to see it finished! Xxx
Starting to look totally awesome @ the 36:01 mark !!!!
Your thingamy is culled a palate knife lol !!
WONDERFUL IDEAS TINA-TFS-HUGS/BLESSINGS
Thank you so much x
Hi Tina, what a great way to use up cardboard. Yours turned out awesome. Another thing I’m going to have to try 😂. Hugs 🤗
Lol, sorry to add another project to your long list of things to try. Hope you have a great Sunday x
Interesting project. I have found the best way to cut cardboard is to use kitchen shears!!
Thank you and for the tip x
I sure enjoyed watching this -I think I’ll try too
Loved watching you this looks amazing 😻
Great! I had never heard of black gesso. Very cool. All I need to do is order some from Amazon so I can get the packaging to start! :). Fun video Tina, hugs and blessings, :)
Lol, yes get ordering Laura!!!! I had never seen black gesso either, but oh my gosh I LOVE it!!!! Have a great day x
How dramatic is that black gesso, can’t wait to see how yours turn out, but will watch the original while we wait. Absolutely amazed that you didn’t get any black gesso over your lovely jumper lol. Xxx
Lol, yes it was purely luck that my jumper escaped the black gesso! The black gesso is just amazingly dramatic isn’t it? X
Awesome, awesome, awesome!!!😎
Thank you so much x
This is sooo cool! TFS Tina. Hope you have a great day. 🙂
Beautiful... Adorable.......
Thank you! 😊 x
Great video, love the thick black gesso. Looking forward to seeing the next stage. X

Try a box knife on a cutting mat. Much easier
Thank you, I will look for one x
Great idea, I’ve always got plenty of cardboard hanging about so might have to try this. Tina I use silicone make up spatulas for spreading glue, paint etc and they work well with stencils too. You can get a set of 4 for £4 on Amazon if you fancy giving them a go take care xxx💕

I know what you mean Michelle, there are just too many fun things to try aren’t there? Yes, this is a great project to do with your daughter x
I find it is easier for me to stencil with a sponge. I am impressed you can stencil with a spatula.
Thank you so much for the tip, I will try a sponge xx
I love this! Love the way cardboard looks when you peel one layer off and the corrugated part shows. Did you hear me scream at you just before your stencil went onto the black gesso lid lol! Black gesso & a white sweater - I swear you almost gave me a heart attack several times LOL! Can't wait for the next part working with this! Take care & stay safe!
Lol, honestly Shirley I am not sure what I was thinking when I wore that jumper!!! Stay safe also x
Love this idea! Definitely going to give this a try. Yours is looking lovely, I can’t wait to see how you finish it. It’s such a shame you only put up one video a day😉💖.

What a great way to use up packaging and scraps 😍. Lol it's so hard to be random isn't it? 😂 looking forward to seeing the next instalment💖
Yes it’s soooo hard to be random x
Tina
I love this project and all the grunginess of it. I want to try this with all my scraps that seem to multiply on their own in my drawer! The black gesso looks wonderful but I have none. I wonder if you can color white gesso with paints??? Super fun idea! Thanks so much. Blessings to you and your family.
Oops...one more thing. 49 dragonflies makes her own gesso that she loves with easy to get supplies. She likes hers to be grainy a bit and stiff.
I had to "breakdown a large television box ". It makes it easier to just fold on both sides then cut. Just courtesy tip. I use a utility knife and straight edge.
Oh thank you so much Theresa for the tips x
Love, love this!
could you tell me what kind of glue you are using thank you
I use Anita's Tacky Glue x
Great idea Tina, you have inspired me to give the cardboard journal a go. I am in the uk , and I struggle with finding the right glue. What glue do you use ? Also where do you buy your plastic bottles with the metal tip.?
Oh thats fantastic, have fun with your cardboard journal. I use Anita’s Tacky glue, I get it from the Range. I got the easy squeezy bottles from Amazon, if you search Sugarbelle icing bottles x
@@shabbydabbydoodah Thank you for that info.
I'm sorry - looks like the gesso worked beautifully for you.
I see the thumbs down brigade are at it again. Xx
Lol, they’re terrible aren’t they? X
It would be really radom if you did it blind folded...lol Pick scraps from a paper bag...lol
Lol, maybe something to try? X
❄️🌞❤️❄️🇨🇦
I think you are wishing she wasn’t being so random because you have trouble doing that. However that ok. We still love you. 😘
Thank you Sherry, yes you’re right I just can’t be so random x
OHHHH just threw all the boxes...
Oh no!!! Isn't that just always the way? x
No-no-no don't use Gesso, but rather texture paste. I've never had luck with gesso.
That’s not random when you try to match. Lol.
Lol x
