    When the bass plays alone, I prefer the Vintage. However, I'm curious how they sound in a full band mix. What sounds good just on bass sometimes doesn't sound as good when the band is playing.

    I also definitely prefer the sound of the B7K over the vintage. I like the more modern tone it gives it while still maintaining the tube style breakup. It also provides more clarity and punch on both the high and low ends. The vintage deluxe just gets too fuzzy for my preference.

    I own the vintage deluxe. Definitely my sound for any fast driven songs I'm playing. Love it. I've tried so many other drive pedals. Glad I got this one

    More similar than I thought they'd be! It seems like each could be adjusted to do a close enough job of the other, but it the B7K is seems to be more oriented toward clarity and dynamics while the Vintage focuses more on a more throaty and smoother drive tone. Which one anyone would like would probably depend a lot on what bass they're using, or what amp they're running into.

    As a guitarist, the B7K sounds more natural and far more articulate. It keeps that bass sound. I think you need that seperation between the guitar and bass, when it melts together it doesn't sound right to me.
    Some stuff sounds great distorted, but I would use a fuzz because a bass ripping through a fuzz pedal is glorious.

  • @burningkarma
    @burningkarma 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What I like about Darkglass pedals is even though they are overdrive & distortion machines, they also do clean very well. Very easy to dial in just the right amount of breakup while retaining the natural tone of your bass. I don't have a preference with either one of these. Both are great.

    I have both pedals on my pedal board I rim my bk7 first and then the vintage three deluxe second the delux is on all the time as a real subtle dirt that you don't really notice when I go into choruses or rock songs I hit the BK 7 which is set pretty much the same but when you add them both together it becomes another gain stage that sounds really cool

    maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan thank you SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS! OMG! I've been back n forth for months now. It's always been B7K for me, but then I tried a Vintage Deluxe and kicked in the B3K and WOW! Man, have you tried that? Do a demo of a Vintage Deluxe + B3K. It blew my mind. But... I think this solves it still. Just the BACK TO BACK comparison, same riff, same setting stuff. Thank you! haha! B7K all the way. It has too sweet of a low end while JUST enough overdrive.

  • @gab.lab.martins

    To me, the Vintage sounds more pleasant when playing single notes and solos, but the B7K sits better in a mix with guitars. The Vintage's warm midrange makes it smoother and rounder, but it will compete with amps like Marshall which also rely on the mids. Considering the bass is, well, the low end, and the guitar is in the midrange, the choice is clear. But I would love to get both, using the B7K most of the time, but switching to the Vintage for bass solos. Only problem is $$$$$$$$$

  • @GemmaSeymour
    @GemmaSeymour 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I'm actually surprised, but I like the B7K better than the Vintage. The Vintage just sounds muddy compared to the B7K. But then, I wonder what I would think if I adjusted them side by side to similar EQ responses. According to Darkglass:
    "Main difference is the voicing post overdrive: The B3 and 7K are voiced to be very aggressive and percussive sounding. The words punch and attack come to mind when describing their character - whereas the Vintage is more focused on the mid range, providing and mildier, warmer and creamier sound to the overdriven signal."

    • @bflo1000
      @bflo1000 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Vintage is muddier but also fuller. Surprisingly the B7K sounds almost as full in this video. It has more articulation, but also less balls. Just my opinion, but I like a full "muddy" sound that has more harmonics & less scooped. But the B7k sounds better in some ways. Usually I have a clear preference for the Vintage.

    • @aleksandereriksen8544
      @aleksandereriksen8544 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      As the B7K is part of Patricks normal rig I suspect the amp is tuned for the B7K. As he uses the exact same settings on the B7K and the Vintage, the Vintage will "suffer".

      I like the B3K-V2 I just bought. I don't need a preamp or melt ur face tone. B3K gives me modern tone w subtle OD using MM Sire P7-5,alder/rswd. Past Sat's gig Rock/Funk music. My amp was a TC-E BH550+BF Big Twin-T cab. Guitard loved my glassy-highs. I really dug my tone using the DG pedal first time at Sat's gig. Had a blast!! DG putting out some nice bass gear. Peace, e.

  • @Bigneb64
    @Bigneb64 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Couldn’t see me using the b7k but with the vintage... it’d be sick to have the bottom end to drop off (like a HP) and have a nice high bite during a solo that drops back into a full band where the low end comes back in. Now that’d be a dope sound

    Great demo as always dude. I had the B3K originally but after reviews like this one comparing them, I sold it and got the VMT Deluxe (version 1 apparently), and paired it up with the new Redwitch Zeus. It is just the most awesome little pedalboard. Can you get your hands on the Zeus and give us a demo? I'd really like to see you playing through one!

    I use the vintage deluxe 3 and the bk7 the original one with the toggle switches on it right before the vintage the vintage is always on it's like a tone sweetener for my ampeg and the bk7 comes on same settings as the V3 for just that extra crunch when both pedals are on together they make a really nice three-dimensional overdrive that sounds like an SVT turned up by their self they sound good but as you stack them even if you get a third dark glass pedal and put in the line as you step down one two three you get this full overdrive sound that cuts through any mix but doesn't sound over the top

    Nice Stray riff.

  • @faithnoman2635
    @faithnoman2635 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    One thing I noticed that may make the Vintage sound muddier than it really can be here is that it seems to have more gain at the same settings as the B7K. I bet it would clear up more with less gain.

  • @legatenaarifin
    @legatenaarifin 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    They both sound incredible, but for what I'm going for I think I prefer the B7K. I split my signal (Boss LS-2) and for heavy driven stuff one path is run through a fuzz pedal, the other through an overdrive. I feel the more sharp and percussive tones of the B7K will pair alongside a fuzzy tone better than the Vintage.
    A question, have you tried the smaller B3K? Is the EQ on the 7K worth splashing out more for, or are there enough tones in the 3K?
    Always love your content, quality stuff :)

  • @Charlesbakowski
    @Charlesbakowski 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    We get it Patrick, you have all the cool stuff everyone else wants.
    I feel like the Vintage sounds better on it's own, but the B7k probably cuts through a mix with a heavy rhythm guitar better. Amiright?
    We shall see who gets the Darkglass B700 amp first, sir. Just you wait!

    • @DoktorDurum
      @DoktorDurum 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, the B7K is a bit scooped. Mids are the way to go, if you want to cut through. The Lo Mids are set pretty high though. You usually punch through at 500-800hz, while the low mids on B7K is at 1000hz.
      The Vintage Deluxe is at 500hz at the low mids, and have a bigger mid growl in the drive, so it would probably cut through better.
      The B7K have a better cut in the Treble though.

    • @faithnoman2635
      @faithnoman2635 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jamie de la Sencerie The B7K cuts through differently, due to its' high mid emphasis. The VMTD is softer there.

    a vmt+b7k would be my dream combo. the vintage microtubes era knob and overall warmer drive coupled with the b7k's eq (particularly the 1k lo mids) sound more ideal to me as the b7k's drive is a little "scoopy" sounding.

    • @DoktorDurum
      @DoktorDurum 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The B7K is kinda scoopy. The Lo Mids knob is at 1000hz, which are a bit too high in my opinion.
      That's why I wanted a B7K Ultra.
      But I though about something crazy. I bought a Vintage Deluxe, to pair with my B7K, and a Boss LS-2.
      I'm going to run Channel A with the B7K, with a tiny midscoop, and boosted highs, and Channel B with the Vintage Deluxe, with some boosted mids. Then run the A+B setting to run them parallel to the amp!

    • @Rorschack
      @Rorschack 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jamie de la Sencerie how would you run it parralell? im in a similar situation but dont know how to run it parralell haha

    • @DoktorDurum
      @DoktorDurum 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought a Boss LS-2 for the purpose. It has a channel called A+B -> Bypass. Then you have one in each channel, and they both get the clean tone going into the Boss LS-2, and they won't gain eachother. Each signal will go into the amp. Just like the old Bassman amps.
