    I just want their eq section and di from the ultras in a stand alone :)

    Haha, I called it. As soon as I saw the B7K Ultra, I knew a Vintage Ultra was coming. XD

    Awesome demo! 😎🤘🏻🎸 I’m a huge darkglass fan and I’ve always liked the vintage series. This preamp sounds killer. I would consider getting this preamp if I ever needed a new preamp pedal.

    MrEx is an amazing pedal reviewer!

    Sounds sweet, also thanks for using an actual rig. Almost all except for the Bass Channel play direct. I saw a demo of the Boss ODB3 and it sounded pretty good bit when I bought it amd ran ot through my rig it was super fizzy, I later found out the video i saw was run direct which is totally different.

    i have to say Darkglass distortion is the best ive ever heard for bass. i thought MXR was great but Darkglass has it for sure!

      MXR has the best octaver and envelope filter, and the Wayhuge Pork and Pickle is an awesome Fuzz/distortion.

      Pork and pickle is amazing! Just wish it had a direct out, which is why I’m looking into these Darkglass pedals, they sound great too

    Getting one as every show we play the sound engeneer doesn't want a loud stage volume so instead of buying an svt classic rig, I'm getting this going direct to the PA and using a customised 80s Marshall bass amp on stage. Best tone result and save a shit ton of coin.

    So it doesnt quite have the "ERA" ability of the smaller vintage pedal?

  • @bflo1000
    @bflo1000 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The Vintage is warmer, the B7K is clearer (is transparency the word I'm looking for?). The Vintage has more gain. If you turn the drive down on the Vtg (or increase the gain on the B7 slightly) how close do they sound, and which one do you prefer?

  • @thebassjedi
    @thebassjedi 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Seems to sound a little warmer than the B7K Ultra.

      It really does! Such a great pedal

      Jens Christian Nielsen Isn't that the whole point of the vintage?

    • @thebassjedi
      @thebassjedi 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leiria65 Maybe, I guess only Darkglass knows :-)

      Much warmer leaning more towards the vintage warm round tones. I have a B7K Ultra and Vintage Ultra and tested them side by side many times. B7K Ultra has a sharp crisp attack while the vintage ultra is rounder and warmer. Both great pedals

    Hey Mr Ex, what is your mic placement and room situation like with this recording? Do you have a lot of mic gain on the channel? When ever I tried to record bass, there would be such noticeable clipping, even when I adjusted the gain setting on my Focusrite. I was also watching my levels in Sonar, but it was still very prevalent.

    • @MrExcane
      @MrExcane  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Next to nothing on mic gain- I watch the levels on the input meters. Mic is placed a few inches away and slightly off center in an isolated room.

    Would this sound any good using a Warwick thumb into a Orange ad200b mk3? or would using a preamp ruin the nice warm tone from the orange?

    • @drphalanges1520
      @drphalanges1520 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It absolutely would sound good.

    I've seen a demo on youtube where they are using the darkglass vintage pedal for guitar, can this be used for guitar also?
    I play bass but sometimes i'm in a setting where i have to play guitar and i would like to make a universal pedal-board.
    any advice?

    It sounds like the B7k ultra except with only half the amount of overdrive available.

    When using this to connect to a usb sound interface, should I use the XLR direct output on the pedal and switch the sound interface channel to LINE instead of Hi-Z?

    • @marcelchaloupka

      According to my conversations with Darkglass the USB doesn’t work as an audio interface. It only there to load cab IRs and ironically change the volume of the headphones

    Distortion for bass sucks I’ve never heard any distortion for bass that I’ve fell in love with however this one has come close I like how the creator showed the product it’s time to leave distortion to guitars only and we bass player just use a Svt type growl but that just my opinion great job sir

    For my money, the MXR Bass DI + is a much better deal.

      I hear ya. This is about as good of a bass OD pedal that there is. But unless you're touring there are many pedals under $150 that you'd be happy with. Honestly, the only pedal I use is a $35 V-Tone BDI21, which does the job. If I were to add another, I like the Bass Soul Food, which is under $100.
