    Just sharing my ideas one my favorite book series, A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin. This video may contain spoilers for those of you who are not up to date with the series.
    I'm just speculating and guessing on some ideas that I have on how future events will transpire in the series. Keep in mind however, I know nothing.

      To reach west you must go east. To go forward you must go back, and to touch the light you must pass beneath the shadow.
      For Dany to go West to Westeros she must go east to Vaes Dothrak. To go forward with her invasion, she must go back to where she got power, Vaes Dothrak. To touch the light, the burning of the Temple, you must pass beneath the shadow, the giant horse statues.

      +Yo Jane I wonder if GRRM has other plans to reveal more info in another story. Part of me thinks its too late for that to happen in either book or show.
      I hope so anyway. Imagine a spin off series similar to Conan the Barbarian that explores the far east. That would be amazing

    • @janep.2214
      @janep.2214 8 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      +99superjesus Absolutely. But I guess Martin will not have enough time to do that. He still has to finish Winds of Winter, continue with Dream of Spring. Then continue the Dunk and Egg's story and he wants to write Fire and Blood, the story of the Targaryen dinasty in Westeros. Too much work to do. And if he finishes all of those projects perhaps he would follow the path of the North (Winterfell, Beyond the Wall).
      Westeros is fascinating but I would love to know a little more of Essos specially Asshai.
      Damn it, why Dany did not go there?

    • @LithningWolf
      @LithningWolf 8 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Maybe she will, and maybe we will have a new POV character from Yi-Ti that will meet Dany and tell her that his lands are being devasted by the others. In the two books to come it is possible.

      I don't know what Jorah Mormont's up to in the books (haven't read them), but on the show maybe he'll seek out Quaithe to cure his greyscale and she'll send him to the far east to get ingredients for the cure or something?? idk.

    • @KingBrandonm

      teenwilliam1000 in the books Jon Connington has grey scale. Jorah is just exiled. at this point the show is just really good fan fiction using some of the most important bits and doing their own thing otherwise.

      Yes, when Nymera fled wih her people they stopped there but soon after they went "nope, I'm out of here". Would love to see that part of the world, as well as the far east, explored by Martin, even if just as a spin-off after he finishes ASOIAF.

    • @inthefade
      @inthefade 8 ปีที่แล้ว +67

      +Leonardo Marques I don't think he'll explore it, and I don't think he should. Remember that Lovecraft's most powerful literary technique was in not fully describing things, but leaving as much as possible to the reader's own imagination.
      I think that is the whole point of what GRRM has done here, and why he has referenced Lovecraft so strongly in the lore of far-Essos and Sotheros; They seem so grand and mystical in contrast to our story in Westeros and near-Essos that it would only work to diminish them if stories were actually written in those places. The mystery would necessarily become much more mundane and normal.

    While I do think that the others are coming from the east as well, I don't think Dany is going to have any part in stopping them
    GRRM has said we will not see asshai because it must remain this mysterious untapped land that is only heard about but never seen, I think this is the case for the entireity of the far east, including yi ti & the forts. There has been no mention of the forts, and no emphasis drawn towards the black stone
    I think that there will be a champion in the east that will drive out the others but that story is happening independent of the story of ASOIAF. GRRM wants to keep certain things hidden from us, and I think ASOIAF is a story about the iron throne, Dany ultimately will end up in westeros. The east's champion is probably from Yi Ti or asshai and their story is probably incredibly interesting but we won't see it in ASOIAF. I think vaes dothrakk & Qarth is the furthest east the story is going

    This is my theory: During The Long Night in Westeros, the dark magic of The Great Other came to Essos as well, and brought a long-lasting eternal darkness to the region. Beyond the Five Forts, there are mythical creatures and cities like Bonetown and Cities of The Bloodless Men, that could be allies to the dark god. With them and maybe wights from The Grey Waste which is a cold region of desert, they came and attacked Essos.

I'm so happy to rediscover IOIAF. The music, the illustrations, the voice; it all just flows beautifully (and is f*cking creepy at points).
    There is definitely something deeply mysterious about the Far East of Essos. It's funny...because you hear of Asshai so often, you come to think of it in a different manner than the Far East in general, but it's *the* farthest point; Asshai Beyond the Shadow.

    Maybe George has a thing for the Landbridge theory. Perhaps there was (and will be) an ice bridge connecting Essos and Westeros in the North. This bridge would only exist during the Long Winter.
    "You must go East to go West" Danny will be crossing the ice bridge to get back to Westeros, she will not be taking ships. That way she fulfills the prphecy and the Dothraki don't have to go on boats.

      During the Earth's ice ages, the sea level was lowered because of all the frozen glaciers everywhere. This created the land of Beringia between Russia and Alaska which allowed humans to cross into the Americas. An ultra winter like what is anticipated to occur in aSoIaF could definitely have the plausibility to create such a land bridge, or at least an ice bridge. It is also known that "Planetos" has northern ice caps (tWoIaF). due to the outdated map projection seen in early maps, these ice caps which look separate on the maps may actually be connecting Westeros to north-eastern Essos. The lands of always winter reach very far north, so the Others (from the ice caps perhaps) are appearing in Westeros sooner. During the massive winter, the ice caps may expand to reach Mossovy/the grey waste or thereabouts quite quickly afterwards, allowing the others passage into Essos. This is all really interesting stuff.

    Awesome! I haven't read the books (yet), but have read just about everything written by Lovecraft I could get my hands on. I've often wondered why the similarities in GRR's world are hardly ever mentioned. As I might not have read the books, I'm still enough of a fantasy-geek to have looked at several maps and rely heavily on videos like these for more information on this world (until the series will end and I can start reading the books). Especially when I saw a city called K'dath way way east in between "Cannibal Sands" and an island called Leng to the south of that bit of land made me wonder about that part of GRR's world (and grin a little). Also the religion of the Drowned God and the depiction of the octopus made me think of some Cthulhu cult. Can't wait for more theories on this.

    The Grey Waste and Beyond the Wall probably connect to the Northern Icecap, and during the Long Night, the Other came down from the east and the west. And heros rose, Azor Ahai, the Last Hero, etc, to defeat them.

    This is like Deja Vu last week I was looking over The World of Ice & Fire map specifically I was looking at the Five Forts & the lands of the far east & I too wondered if the Lands of Always Winter connect with the far east somehow, it seems likely considering the coincidences between the Wall & the Five Forts & the fact that there are legends of a Long Night & a hero with a flaming sword in the far east, it's fascinating. Another great video, I have now become a subscriber to your channel.

    Maybe the Black Stone they speak of could be obsidian also known as dragonglass ? Obsidian is a form of glass, it's pitch black and just like normal glass it feel greasy and oily when you touch it (this is because glass is actually not a solid substance). We know that IRL obsidian is made due to vulcanic activity, and in ASOIAF it is the same. Dragonstone for exemple is vulcanic and it has lots of obsidian. But volcanos also appear under water, which could be how the Deep ones get their black stones. Also because of Obsidian being a form of glass it doesn't erode which means if you were to build a castle out of it (eg five forts) the castle would never crumble or fall in decay. The fact that the stone is described as smooth just makes it even more plausible that it is a form of glass. Also White Walkers can be killed with obsidian, could this be why the five forts are made out of it? To scare off the White walkers? We also know that obsidian is used for glass candles, could this be the black stone that Bloodstone worshipped? A simple glass candle, maybe Bloodstone saw the others through a glass candle and it made im go crazy and corrupted. Just like Saruman in Lotr who used the palantir to talk to sauron was corrupted.

    • @LeohTheArcher

      I doubt it. The Maesters know what obsidian is and yet they describe theses rocks as oily black stones..

    • @Jim-ti5ck

      +Freek De Jonghe Not sure where you got either of the ideas that obsidian feels greasy/oily or that it doesn't erode. Neither of those are remotely true.

    A reason why the Others might only focus on Westeros the second time they appear? They lost the first time, right? Why divide their forces at all? Also, maybe they don't know how to get through the black stone, or can't? Maybe it's easier to get through the Wall. Maybe they got utterly destroyed in the East and then we're only just beaten back in the west and see the west as an easier target. I mean, the people in Asshai 8,000 years ago were still probably using that crazy magic they still use, and could have been a very powerful threat, and some believe that the Shadowlands are where Dragons originally came from, so that could have been a problem as well. Also, Yi Ti. No description needed. The East might just be too powerful. Honestly, if Dorne can fight off dragons, they can fight off anything.

      +Luissv72 What if the five forts are made out of Obsidian? It fits the description perfectly! And Obsidian can kill White walkers so maybe that's why they can't penetrate the line of the Five Forts. Maybe Y Ti found the power that Obsidian holds and decided to build forts out of it?

    • @Luissv72
      @Luissv72 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Freek De Jonghe people wouldve just called it Obsidian or Dragonglass or whatever. It's referenced as like the metal that Asshai was made out of

    This is a really cool theory and makes a lot of sense. It definitely seems to fit.
    George has responded t it though and said that we do not know how large this world is. That there are most likely other lands between Essos and Westeros. Which makes sense when you align the regions to their real world counterpart.
