I was KIDNAPPED at gunpoint by two men in downtown Atlanta so my spider senses are always up no matter where I go. I have visited Thailand 30 times since 2005. I have NEVER EVER felt unsafe.
Because the penalty of committing crimes can cost you your whole life lol

My suggestion is this: Dont be carried away by the word "Bangkok is safe"
Of course it is safer than some of other western cities, but you dont want to walk in the valley or "Soi" in the middle of the night, right?
Drug Junkies can be anywhere who usually eye on a vulnerable and easy target.

I would say she's right no where in the world is safe 100% bc of every country has good and bad people and we don't know when we will be unfortunately bc in Thailand doesn't have just only thais but also immigrants from another countries come to work and live in Thailand and a lot of them make crime, rob, killed people and rob or sexual crime in Thailand. So shouldn't walk alone at night at all

Im Thai, Ive been travel to 30 countries and hundred of city, there are only few cities that I feel safer than Bangkok probably less than 20, the rest I feel like people might tryna attack you all the time even in the big street lot of people, I wouldnt dare of walking in the small street. In Bangkok even Klong Toey slum I can just walk through without any trouble. Its not the safest for sure but it better than world standard.
What a pleasure to see someone who has found true happiness and fulfillment.
So often we grind against the pace of life in the west.
When Brenna said that when she steps off that plane and feels at home - and a sense of calm falls on her - I know exactly what she means.
Two months to go till I am on a one way ticket....

Although a lot of people find they are happier in a different city or even a different country than the one they were born in it's important to remember that this does not mean that there is anything inherently wrong with the cities or countries they came from. It's just a matter of personal preference. For example, if some guy prefers vanilla ice cream to chocolate it does not mean that there is anything wrong with chocolate or that most people don’t actually prefer chocolate. And the fact of the matter is the huge majority of Americans would not be happier in living in Thailand in the long run than in the USA. Its also true that a lot of people blame their environment on their unhappiness rather than looking for the answers within themselves. And when these people change their environment thinking it will make them happier, they often find that those same problems tend to follow them around wherever they go. Also, I hate to burst your bubble, but Thailand is hardly some kind of utopia. And while this woman may feel safer in Thailand the truth is she is probably statistically just as likely to get killed or be the victim of a crime there as she would be in the USA. As for me I always felt perfectly safe when I lived in Thailand. But then again, I have also always felt perfectly safe in all the cities I lived in here in California. I did feel much less safe in Thailand however when it came to riding my motorcycle there, and with good reason. Thailand ranks in the top 3 most dangerous countries in the entire world in which to drive, and traffic accidents are the number one cause of non-disease related deaths there. By the way, I when I lived in Thailand I was actually in Phuket and not Bangkok because I figure if you are going to live in the tropics you might as well live near some beautiful beaches. Also, if I want to live in megacity again I would MUCH prefer Tokyo, Japan to Bangkok. I lived in Tokyo for 5 years and those were honestly some of the best years of my life.
In any case I am glad that this woman is happy in Bangkok but I can also tell that despite having lived there for years she is blissfully unaware of what goes on beneath the smiling and happy surface veneer of Thai society - as are most Westerners who live there. Still, she should stay there as long as she is happy there.

Maybe you’re the wrong person to ask, you’re probably miserable in any environment. Btw, I prefer vanilla ice cream over chocolate, however if all of my friends prefer chocolate it’s ok, unless that vanilla has a much higher crime rate, toxic politics, toxic race relations, homelessness, drug crisis, mass shooting crisis then maybe the problem is my inability to recognize that chocolate IS better and i need to stop rationalizing in favor of vanilla. @@ghingisoverland6932 - I’ve actually become accustomed to getting some pretty unintelligent and bizarre replies on here over the years, but I have to say that yours is a real head scratcher. After all I did not make a single statement that any sane rational person would consider to be even remotely “negative”. In fact, I think I could best sum what I wrote as “there are always two sides to every story” or “one size does not always fit all”. I’m not sure if it’s a reading comprehension problem on your end or if you are just one of those types who is so irrational and so easily triggered that you only hear what you are expecting to hear rather than what is actually being said or written. In any case, my comments are always completely unbiased and are meant to be purely informative and to get people thinking. Furthermore, as someone who has been visiting Thailand for 35 years now and who has spent years living there, (up until 6 months ago) I can tell you that negativity amongst expats over there is already so rampant that it could not really get any worse, so you need not worry about me or anyone else bringing their “negativity” over. In fact, I would say that that the sh*tty attitudes of many of the expats in Thailand was actually one of the big negatives about living there. Speaking of which, I guess I should really thank you for going out of your way to prove this very point for me. By the way, my comment about people sometimes trying to escape their problems be relocating - and I never implied that this was the case with the girl in the video - were based on my many years of experience studying the human mind and I would not really expect someone like you to understand such phenomenon. I was also making the point that for the huge majority of people life in the USA and many other other Western countries is great. So, is that small, disgruntled group of citizens just seeing things that for some reason others can't see? Or is it actually their own cr*ppy attitudes that are causing them all their problems, and which have them thinking that their home countries are horrible and unlivable places? Any halfway intelligent person should be able to figure that one out.

As a Chinese-American, I believe Thailand is an amazing country to immerse in the local culture because I'm learning Thai online, but I don't remember anything about visiting Thailand when I was a 4-year-old. I'm really impressed with her successful career in Thailand. Hopefully, I have a chance to learn more about Thai culture when I visit Thailand.

Great job on the interview. It's refreshing to hear an articulate intelligent 25 year old who is able to clearly explain why she made the move from the US to Bangkok. I agree that Bangkok is an amazing city with a lot of diversity and opportunity. The locals are always willing to help if you need it and they are generally very open to talking to foreigners , especially English speaking . Good choice !

Hey Adam. Found this video via a recommendation on TH-cam, but I’ve seen you on your Uncle’s channel many times. This was a really well done interview. Brenna seems smart and knows what she wants for her life and Thailand seems to make her happy. I was not even close to having it all together back when I was 25 like her. It’s one of my life’s regrets. It’s great to see someone young like her having a good plan.

Well, you might be happy living there and you might not be but it's always better to try something and fail than to spend the rest of your live wondering “what if”. And this is exactly the attitude I had when at 25 I decided to just up and move to Tokyo, Japan. It was very scary at first because I had no job lined up and I only had $400 to my name but it all worked out for the best and the 5 years I spent living there turned out to be some of the best years of my life. I also later spent years living in Thailand and I had some good times there as well.

Great interview. Also living in Bangkok as a retiree with two years in Bangkok, she is right on money with her takes, she is also gorgeous and articulate. The negatives: excessive heat/humidity, traffic, pollution(sometimes bad), I don't dwell on any of those negatives because of all the good lifestyle, safety, and cool people stuff she mentions in the interview. I don't miss driving like Brenna, not driving takes alot of stress out of life. At the end of the interview she mentions how she always feels good whenever she arrives back in Thailand, I have never heard anyone else say that but that is the same for me. I would say on the cab ride into the city a tremendous feeling of comfort comes over me like being home.

Thank you Brenna. As a recently retired U.S. citizen I can tell you not only is there a lot of crime but also high cost of living and much of the high crime in the U.S. flows into the work place. Many U.S. work places have very poor treatment of workers & workers that don't have respect for each other. Back stabbing, thievery and lying would be the general work place rule.
Good story/interview Adam. I agree with most of her perceptions/observations. Brenna (sp?) rocks she stepped out of her comfort zone. I am currently near where she grew up it's lovely here in the desert but ... for the reasons she mentioned I will be back in Thailand ...

I’m Thai. I’ve been living in nyc for 10 years. I moved to nyc when I was 23. I am moving back to bkk this year. I feel like the quality of life in bkk is so much better. I miss private hospitals in Thailand. Also, beauty services are very affordable. I’m so jealous of my friends when I scroll on fb or ig, how they are able to access beauty services like facial laser, botox, collagen boost injection, vitamin dripping, fine line reduction, hair salon etc, They look extremely younger than their actual age. When I was in Thailand, I went to the salon all the time for a hair wash. These things are so expensive in nyc. Another thing, how crazy is that bkk now has a proper Japanese / korean malls , beauty stores and ssupermarkets . Im in the center of the world nyc and there are not many skincare brands from japan or korea. There are only a few brands in Hmart or teso life. But in Bkk now you can find both western skincare choices, Alternative European brands and many choices from Japan and Korea.
Lies! Please leave our city and come back to yours ASAP. Don't wait any longer. Go to JFK now...
Service is expensive in NY also means that your wages are higher. If you can get cheap service in Thailand it also means your wages will be lower.

Good interview and informative. Welcome abroad, you have made the right decision at this moment. I made a good decision to go to the US decades ago, but now I am happy to return home to Thailand. You have a great personality and intelligent, BKK is a big city but people are much kinder than the West. However, learning Thai boxing self-defense is a good idea.
Thai boxing skills helped me in SF, USA. I got robbed but I was fine and safe, the robbers got away with nothing.
SE Asia, Lao, Cambodia, and others are slower but progress under China assistance. Buddhism influences peace of mind, not war and self profit like the Western culture. Travel and get to know the locals, it will enrich your life. I love everything here but pollution and corruption must be improved. Take care and enjoy. All the best.
Adam, maybe you could ask more follow up questions in the future like why AIS over True or DTAC? Is it because of cost or performance or both? It will make your interviews more interesting when they tell you why they chose one over the others.
All are pretty much the same good quality. Whether you use AIS True or DTAC, you can go anywhere (literally anywhere, I mean even deep in the jungle or in the middle of the ocean). You will definitely have internet to use)
Therefore, the difference may be a matter of price and promotion.

There promotions are pretty much the same tbh. I had bad experience with True when i went hiking quite a few times, while my friend’s Ais still works pretty much anywhere. So I would say from my opinion, if you planning to stay in the city they are pretty much the same but for outside of the big city or the central district of a province, maybe you go with AIS.

I feel 100x safer in Thailand than in the US. People here aren't wired like that. They work their a**es off here and don't have the energy to cause you grief. They respect your space if you respect theirs. In the US, people gather in groups, looking to take advantage of smaller people or people in lesser numbers. Fewer people here who feel entitled and therefor disappointed if you have something they don't - that they want to take from you. The US is on life support. If I didn't have family still living there, I would watch it crash and burn without sadness.
