    I grew up as an expat kid in Bangkok, Jakarta, and Singapore in the 90s, where my father worked for the State Department. Returning to the US for college, I found it amusing how different the culture was-less friendly and welcoming compared to Southeast Asia. Experiencing diverse cultures early on shaped my perspective, and I'm grateful for it. Shout out to Bangkok International School!

    That changes a lot from the usual "living in Thailand with 500 US$ a month" stories that you find so often on TH-cam. Another very interesting perspective on a retirement life in Thailand.

      Thanks. This was a very interesting interview. Great couple and lots of information. However they are among the very rich (over 100k/condo in Bangkok, house in the Hamptons, Bumrungrad hospital, etc. etc.). I understand that this is the type of real estate clients you have and look for, although they probably represent no more than 5% of your viewers. On the other hand I agree with those who are tired of YT videos on how cheap you can live in Thailand for. I just discovered your channel and subscribed to it in the hope that in future presentations you talk to/about “normal” middle to upper middle class expats living in Bangkok who can’t afford more than 40k to 50k rent, although I fear that is not the client base you are interested in and want to reach. Anyway, good work with this interview, and looking forward to what you might bring up to us next.

      It's not widely covered on TH-cam because most people in America don't make this much money and most Americans moving to Thailand are doing so because they are on a budget and would be living in poverty in the USA for the same price they can be living middle called in Thailand.

    As a Viet American who's married to a Thai wife, I really appreciate this couple being honest with their assessments on both Bangkok and Sai Gon as their retirement destination. I have traveled extensively to both cities and still have extended family in Sai Gon and know the city very well when I stayed there. It's a vibrant and exciting city, and the local people are amazing!! But I absolutely agree on their decision on BKK. Don't get me wrong, Sai Gon is well under way in becoming the most dynamic city in the region in terms of business, commerce, entertainment, and way of life. A new airport is under construction and will be the best airport comparable to Changi. But at the moment, BKK has easy access to mass transportation, making traveling around easy and cheap. They can't go wrong with either choice.

    Excellent interview! $10K monthly - the vast majority of people potentially deciding on retiring in BKK/Thailand would no doubt not have that type of budget. Looks like this couple lives in the Sukhumvit/Asok area. I’ve spent the last 35 years spending time in Thailand as well as other neighbouring countries, excepting during Covid time. Air pollution is DEFINITELY a consideration if you are older. While in BKK I run daily in Lumpini Park in late afternoons and after a week do notice from time to time that I have an irritated throat. Unfortunately BKK is becoming more and more expensive, as is Phuket as well. Even in Canada or the States, that type of budget would be beyond most people’s means and necessity, and even more so if retired. This couple are very fortunate to have that type of monthly budget. But yes, BKK IS a FANTASTIC city. This interview was quite accurate as to its content. Many people dream on living on a couple of 1000 $$ monthly in Thailand but those days are unfortunately LOOOOONG GONE! Even Khao San Road is significantly more expensive today. Do your due diligence and chok dee krup.

What makes Price Court in Kuala Lumpur even better though, my opinion, is the easy of registration all the way to after care, the support in the whole process in dealing directly with the insurance companies, with care outside the center, they have an even better ‘supply chain’, which adds even more value.

    This interview was great!! A couple that actually reminds me of ME (except I retired to Chiang Mai)!! I see comments about the fact WHY they choose to live in BKK if they can afford to spend $10K plus a month. Having worked in Saudi (oil industry) all my life I am also lucky enough to afford a good lifestyle anywhere in the world - BUT chose Thailand (specifically CM). I had initially considered Amsterdam - but after a few winters there PLUS the homogeneity of things I was glad to leave for Thailand. (Don't get me wrong the Dutch and the country are wonderful - but for me now I prefer just a yearly visit.) I know that if I wake up tomorrow and want to move elsewhere, I can do so very easily but the MAGIC of this place is a hard drug to fight!! Just for the record - I am living in one of the more expensive condo's in CM and definately do not deny myself frequent trips and all the latest electronics (hello Apple Vision Pro!!) and etc. but I have yet to have a month when I have come close to pending $10,000 per month while in CM!! It only when I visit the USA that I will spend that much per month. (But then again I am single).

    • @michaelh6743
      @michaelh6743 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Who is "You're"? The couple in this video? They spend, minimum $10k US per month or $90k US per year (they are there for 9 months). I 10 years that's 900k. If you are 60 and wanted to retire and die there, you'd be looking at needing up to $1.8 million US to live to 80 at that spend rate. Most people don't even have $500k savings. These folks are living a well earned great life, but my guess is most in the comments or most thinking about retiring in Thailand couldn't support that sort of savings utilization.
      As far as peaceful, have you lived in Thailand? If so, what is your definition of peaceful? Coups, major, sometimes violent protests, etc? Foreigners taking swan dives off of condos all the time (some *might* be voluntary, but not all). Get out in the country and it can get pretty real. You'll see this comment a lot and that is: life is cheap in the Land of Smiles. People all over that are willing to relieve belongings of the unwary. If you are an expat, know that you have basically no rights and if you have a problem with a Thai you'll more than likely come out on the losing end. Heck, even being a passenger in a taxi and getting into an accident where the driver of the taxi isn't at fault can cause you problems.
      Spiritual? You mean because the country is mostly Buddhist? Well...like any church or temple, there is big money to be made and most Thais "practice" Buddhism for the purposes garnering good luck.
      Don't get me wrong. Thailand is a very fine country. I've lived, visited, worked there off and on since 1995. It is a beautiful country with many great people. My wife and I will be returning soon but it's important that people get both sides of the story, not a glass is completely full, living in Thailand is all flowers and rainbows view from an out of touch rich couple. There are real issues but overall the plusses outweigh the minuses.

    You guys seem a good fit for Bangkok, as energetic and loud as you sound😊
    A big city person myself, we live in both Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. Downtown downtown in KL and at the river in Bangkok. But what I like is that we have the option to get out of the intensity of Bangkok when we want. KL is our base, BKK our escape when we want the action. Nice apartment!

    Congratulation guys, welcome to Thailand. I am Thai/American living in US and will soon head back home. I live in US for so long and trying to learn from Expat like you if Thailand is ok for me as Thai living abroad. Some of you may wonder what the hell I am doing in US. I am making good money now and save as much I can before going home.

    Thanks for the video, Adam. Very helpful as I’m considering making the move to 🇹🇭. Just one suggestion as I noticed this in your interview with the English teacher video as well - perhaps it’s your editing but your line of questions feel more like an interrogation than a conversation. It’d be great to hear your reaction and dialogue as well. It helps build more rapport and would flow better, too. Just my $0.02 🙏

    It is a vibrant nice place to come to there does not seem to be much thievery and walking about is ok. The main thing is what a wonderful people the Thais are. I started coming 15 years ago the first couple where i couldn't wait to get there and then it was a feeling of coming home until final i came last year and kicking myself i didn't come sooner. I prefer away from the big cities and mixing with the locals im not great at the Thai language but i and we get by. The we being the wonderful Thai people.
