    I would 100% fund a kickstarter for Brett to release his cut. Release the Leonard cut!!

      I think he's just talking about 99 min version which is available on Blu ray on ebay. That's the original version that was available before the film aired on syfy. The movie also called the Russian cut it's about 12 mins long and the edit a bit better the crap released in the USA.

    This is an enthralling episode! I always knew there was more to The Source because Leonard is a talented filmmaker. Virtuosity for instance is sadly one of the more underrated 90s sci-fi films. I hope he’s doing well and that his company thrives!

      I once caught Virtuosity on TV a long time ago and was shocked to learn Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe had made a movie together before American Gangster. At least Brett can say he brought those two actors together before Ridley Scott!

    This was a very entertaining episode - Brett Leonard obviously has a lot to say about the film, rightly so! Would love to see his cut of the movie!

    Wow. Thank you all for putting this together and for getting Brett on the channel. What a cautionary tale. The best 80 minutes I have ever spent on TH-cam. I'm sure I am not alone in hoping to one day see Brett's edit of the film.

    If they kept it more grounded it would have been better, that's what made the series (and the first movie) so great. I think they should have done a call back to the theme in the episode(s) of Finale. Except this time the truth of the immortals does come out to the public. The movie then deals with the issues of everyone knowing about immortals. Methos finds references to the immortal "source" or "haven" that only immortals are allowed to enter, which then turns into a quest for the gang to find this haven to escape what is essentially persecution. Once they find it, Joe can't enter so there is a nice goodbye, and then we find out what the source is blah blah blah... It would be a nice gradual shift from grounded to more supernatural.

    Here’s my idea:
    Duncan learns over the course of the movie that everything that he’s been told, that he believes about the Prize has been a lie.
    Immortals are the result of a cosmic/biological imperative; an equation intended to be balanced.
    Let’s say that nature/God/ whatever, purposed 1000 immortals to be born and live over the centuries - the power and quickening they posses equally distributed among the 1000. They were designed we could say, to rule humanity as a world government of sorts, using their knowledge and wisdom to benefit all of us. However that obviously never came to pass, that understanding, that knowledge had been lost, or purposely hidden. As a result, when an immoral kills another of their kind and takes their quickening, what they are actually doing is working (unknowingly) AGAINST the will of a higher power/purpose. When a single immoral remains, the equation becomes so unbalanced that the power inside that person is too much for a single individual to contain. It is released back into the world and the cycle is repeated again. 1000 more immortals will slowly be born into the world.
    The trouble for Duncan would be that by the time he learns this only he and another immortal remain - an evil SOB who will not listen to reason, and is intent on taking Duncan’s head. Duncan is forced to fight a battle that he knows will leads to the eventual death of the sole survivor. His plan to is preserve and distribute the knowledge that he has learned about the source so that hopefully future generations of immortals don’t make the same mistakes again.
    This is made very difficult because Duncan now lives in a future apocalyptic world in which digital media is nonexistent and he has to reply on the written world. How does Duncan ensure that a book he has written is preserved, unaltered, for generations to comes when society has broken down?

    Needed more info on his cut, hard to tell what he was talking about since he didn't add any details on differences since he never watched the trashy sci fi cut

      I was even wondering how close it would be to the Russian cut. That is the longest version of the movie I've seen. Incidentally Brett does state his cut followed Anna as the focus character which follows the Sci-Fi cut. The Russian cut used an opening narration by Methos.

    • @wt701
      @wt701 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@shuboy05 no in that interview he said he couldn't watch the rest when he saw the movie was following Anna and not the highlander. Presumably his cut follows Duncan and is probably much closer to the Russian cut. I bet the guardian had even more screen time as he raved about that actor and even In the Russian cut theres parts where his speeches were clearly chopped up. I say why not, the guardians cringey stuff was the only unique stuff. Ill say the Russian cut felt slightly more like a real movie so I'd be interested in seeing if his cut is any better even if the special effects are even less finished lol

      @shuboy05 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wt701 Thanks. The audio is a bit hard to hear at places. So I wasn't sure whether he meant his version followed Duncan or Anna. I'm also watching the previous part where they are discussing the various scripts and it's clear the focus character changed quite a bit! I honestly hoped the Sci-Fi cut would be better than the Russian cut but it was disheartening to realize quite a bit of exposition got removed including the opening Methos narration.

      @@shuboy05 they even removed Duncan mocking the guardians ridiculous outfit 😂😂😂
      Was interesting to hear him explain how when the suits take over they know they re losing money and aren't concerned about editing a good movie ans just try to save the most money possible and the less footage to do post production on the less money spent so there's a good chance a whole lot more was cut
