I love the early-90s cyberpunk aesthetic so much. Like, I feel we got shafted here in the future. We got the corporate dystopia and all, but none of snazzy colors and neon.

For the longest time, because i don't watch that many horror movies, I assumed from the title that this was a slasher movie of a man swinging around a lawnmower.

Your theory reconciles all the weirdness and makes the sequel make sense...that's remarkable. Great work!

    Jeff Fahey is definitely underrated!

Even though these movies have nothing to do with the original King story, I honestly love them. They're primo 90s cyberpunk cheese, and the Jobe's War/Beyond Cyberspace just goes off the rails in the best way. One day, though, I'd love to see a proper adaptation of the King story. The concept of a cult that works for a Satyr god that eats grass to reach a higher power would make a killer folk horror movie.

I'm a big Stephen King type of guy and I think the story really works in print. However, I'm not totally sure it would make a feature length film. I think it could be a good short or episode of a TV show though.

    • @ESpr0ducti0n
      @ESpr0ducti0n 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@CeeJayThe13th The short working at feature length would certainly depend on who ends up penning the screenplay and who directs it. You mentioning it working as a tv episode is a great point, though. If Shudder ends up continuing Creepshow, it could totally work as an episode.

@@ESpr0ducti0n it would be great as a Creepshow segment

I thought that I had seen both of these movies, but aside from the fact that they recast Jobe for the second one, I had no memories of it. And wow... you can tell that the second one is toward the end of Austin O'Brien's film career. He had promise, but he's one of many of that generation who quit the business around the time they went to college. At least... I think that's the case with him.

This is one of the VHS tapes I used to watch a bunch as a youngster. Not sure what the appeal was, but certainly saw this film way more than I should have in my youth. 🤷🏻‍♂️

If you look on YT you can find a heastily edited trailer following King's lawsuit against the film. In which, rather than saying "From the mind of Steven King comes (and then whatever comes after that I don't remember)" as it originally did it now says "From the mind [long awkward pause] comes (rest of the trailer stuff you get the idea)".

That Future LA or whatever it is, looks a lot like something from Blade Runner or Highlander 2. 🙂

My Favorite thing about this franchise is watching the Trailer for Lawnmower man 2 on my old vhs copy of Mortal Kombat. I don't know why, but I love that trailer it gives me just all the Nostalgia. Used to watch the first movie on tv all the time as a kid, I've never seen the second movie only it's trailer I remember thinking it looks ridiculously but I just absolutely loved it.

Wow, you just brought back a whole slew of memories with that "Beyond the Mind's Eye" reference! I had completely forgotten about it and how I would spring it on unsuspecting friends to see their reactions...I was usually asked to turn it off after 10 minutes or so.

I saw the first movie at the cinema as a teen and thought it was cool for the time. Still a fun watch. When I finally got round to reading the King story I thought it was crap. Still, they shouldn't have used his name as a selling point. The sequel I haven't seen but looks like some wacky fun.

In the second movie Jobe is played by Matt Frewer who also played the titular character in the cyberpunk TV series Max Headroom.

I haven’t seen the first one in a long time, but I remember the beginning & the end perfectly. However I don’t remember any of the middle where he kills people. And sadly, I those VR graphics were amazing back then.

I saw Lawnmower Man in the theatre when it came out. I ran into some friends there, and one of them actually paid for me to see that with them instead of Final Analysis. Was Michael DeLuca in charge of development when it was released? I loved the Max Headroom you affected when you referenced the casting change of Job in Lawnmower Man 2, but you couldn't come up with a better alias for Kevin Conway, like Dr. Huer or Kayliss?

Only thing I remember about Lawnmower Man 2 is that I saw it opening weekend with a friend from school and we were the only people in the theater. I do have fond memories of watching the first one tho, I haven't seen it since sometime in the 90s, but always watched it whenever it came on one of the movie channels.

I was expecting the Stephen King story so I was disappointed. Had that connection not been made for me first, I would've probably enjoyed it for what it was.

I think I actually saw the second one in theaters. I would have been about 7. I think it was the first movie I saw in a theater and realized I’d made a horrible mistake and that it was a terrible film.
Also, I could have sworn I remembered the film being subtitled “Jobe’s War,” which some googling tells me was the subtitle for some home video releases.

I don't know why King hates on his own MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE so much. This, in my opinion, is the worst adaptation of a Stephen King work EVER. Compared to this one, MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE looks like an Oscar caliber work of art like LORD OF THE RINGS. Heck, this is the JAWS:THE REVENGE of King adaptations.

I have seen these films and movies not in the theaters but I did see them and they are awesome the lawn more man films is actually what is based on the story of Stephen King but I kind of do have a a movie timeline for you what is your cover on Harry Potter as of right now they are going back to the roots of all of it you don’t like the beginning going back to the time of newts Scamander you know the guy who has fantastic beasts and where to find them
Or you can do the 3 ninjas that will be awesome to see if you want to do that one or white or on the Harry Potter movies if you want but other than that I would like to see you to do a video on the 3 ninjas including surf ninjas and also spinoffs from them
