Highlander: The Search for Vengeance anime film is pretty damn good as a spin-off of the Highlander franchise, I highly recommend it. As for Highlander 3, the villain Kane was sadly basically a knock-off of the Kurgan but with magic powers an willing to break the rules about fighting on Holy ground. That being said I'd still say that 3 is watchable unlike the other movie sequels.
This franchize is kinda like undead monster - every other instalement is worse than the last, but it refuse to die. Or at least that was true. If I remember correctly The Source came out in 2007 and this was the last movie yet.

Did the French really misspell Russell Mulcahy's name on the box art? What!? Just a nitpick, but immortals don't become immortal in the prime of their lives, but whenever they get mortally wounded (that doesn't involve decapitation). Highlander II is a bad film, but the direction by Mulcahy is absolutely thrilling. For that reason alone, The Quickening should be watched and studied as a masterclass of what can fill the frame. The opening scene alone where it intercuts between the Opera and Zeist (gulp!) is incredible. The Highlander series succumbed to the "immortal of the week" syndrome, even though, by that time, only a handful were suppose to be around due to The Gathering just being around the corner. It's not a bad series per-se, but needed a lot more people in the imagination dept. Oh, and there was also The Raven, which was also fairly mediocre. And the Japanese anime movie. And the Atari Jaguar game. And...God only knows what else. When I first heard about it, I had really, REALLY high hopes for The Source. That didn't last very long. Oh, and some more trivia - there are at least two cuts of the movie, and a possible third. Then again, there are various cuts of all the other films, too. Poor Spoony. Highlander was definitely the abusive husband to his battered housewife.
The Highlander television series (which I enjoyed) also had a spinoff series called Raven based around a female immortal character. I had 3 different chances to watch Highlander The Source on tv recently and got distracted/intentionally distracted so give myself a break. Maybe if the movie airs a 4th time I'll give it a complete watch though I can't be bothered to see it's next airing time.

I could easily think of about a thousand different ways to expand this in to multiple movie without it being bad it’s not impossible there’s more than enough to go of.
The problem with Highlander as a franchise is that you cant really make a sequel to the first one without coming up with some stupid bullshit since it ends with all immortals being dead.
In the series they were able to introduce new personages and reveal their character episode after episode, just in 40 minutes. Most of the episodes were logically well-structured, and the core personages and interaction between them was dynamic and vibrant (especially Methos and Joe Dawson duo, the dialogues full of irony and sarcasm), historical flashbacks were great extention to the storylines. While "The Source" is just kind of raw material - when you have good components, but some very misty idea of what you want to get out of them.
Watching the original Highlander. It feels like something that just shouldn't work but the direction and the actors really sell the premise. Not gonna lie though, The Kurgan is way more entertaining than the protagonist. Really wish Clancy Brown was in more stuff. Dude legit elevates the character from the script (seriously, imagining anyone other up-and-coming dude from that time taking up the role would be a crime). Highlander worked because a lot of shit lined up right for the movie to work.
Its sad because I would LOVE a Highlander film that was average but had amazing choreography. The Highlander movies had some truly terrible choreography, especially the original!
Highlander the series actually gets really good in season 3, if you watched the first season and waved it off I dont think anyone begrudge you that. Also it had some of the best fight scenes on television for the longest time. But, when your competition in that front is walker. Texas ranger and powrr rangers, its not that high of a bar to surpass.
Highlander 1 is a certified cult classic. Part 2 is just stupid & unintenionally funny, in the same way as "The Room". Part 3 is just a bad remake of the first movie. Part 4 is basically like a big special of the tv series. The tv-series is actually pretty good, despite the limitations of 90´s network tv. It´s made by the people who made Ninja Scroll & Vampire Hunter D and super violent. Highlander-The Source, is so bad... you just want to have everybody involved tarred & feathered. It´s not even unintenionally funny, it´s just bad beyond human recognition. Adrian Paul even said on an interview that he´s ashamed for this movie.
There are two reoccurring mistakes that plagued the franchise. 1st: Every villain tries to copy the Kurgan. The Kurgan was the OG. Clancy Brown was fantastic. He was energetic, over the top, yet believable considering the character's background. He was an adrenaline junky addicted to quickenings, and got more powerful each time he got his fix. The problem is that every movie villian tries to copy him, and it feels cheap by comparison. The series, except for the pilot, diverged from this and introduced a variety of villians that are more nuanced and characterful. This is a big reason why the series is great. 2nd. They try and explain immortality. Highlander 2, and the source are guilty of this. It's a case of the reality is always less cool than the fan speculation. The origin, and prize are always disappointing when some one tries to establish an answer. They are better left as a mystery, that even the wisest immortals only guess at. Again, the series avoided this pitfall.

You're wrong Mr. Reviewer. The Source is not a stand alone movie. It is indeed tied into the TV series which is tied, at least, to the 1st movie. Methos is in it, Joe Dawson is in it (and the Watchers are referred to), and Duncan mentions his past relationship with Tessa. It IS a sequel to the TV series.
As a life long fan of Highlander, I feel I can speak with authority: GOOD: The first movie, the first two seasons of the series OKAY: Seasons 3 and 4 of the series BAD, but watchable: Seasons 5 and 6 of the series, the re-edit of Highlander 2, Highlander 3: The Sorcerer, Highlander The Animated Series UNWATCHABLE: Literally everything else

I would definitely recommend.
