Learned that Caltrops is amazing against Heart in Silent Armor deck, skips Flame Barrier in similar Ironclad deck.
And he did it like three times
NL: "I think one Metallicize is enough.."
NL literally one room later: "We could have dual wielded Metallicize for 6 passive block per turn which would have been nice"

Floor 2: I think NL might be having a minor stroke... at least he takes the second metallicize here, though.
You didn't take Flamebarrier because you didn't upgrade Armaments yet? What kind of reasoning is this?

If he got prismatic shard and that's the reason you are asking me this then I will assume that metallicize is better because you would only have 1 orb slot creating 2 block unless he doesn't have more orb slots already and maybe some focus. Oh and the block you get from playing glacier can change things, not sure how his deck was so can't really say

flame barrier is very good especially for the last boss, you should not have skipped it
Watching NL justify the same bad card in new ways (Seeing Red) over and over is so frustrating. Dude stop. count your draw. if you are able to have 6-7 card hands consistently, take seeing red. if you aren't stay the hell away. it's just adding a slimed card to your deck, but without the benefit of Evolve.
There are three types of cards in slay the spire: Cards you want to play every time you draw them (most cards), and combo pieces, and the last type is a curse, whether by effect or by actual card. If a cards is in your deck, and not enabling a specific combo, and isnt something you want to play every time. its a curse. Seeing Red is a curse when you dont have cards specifically set up to allow it to be used when you draw it the majority of the time.
Even Strikes count as cards you WANT to play every time you draw it. but they often are not even worth the energy compared to every other card, they still DO something. even if its an overcosted effect. Seeing Red, enabled only one turn the entire game since you added it. you got 5 block out of it that you wouldnt otherwise have.
its more like a clumsy that adds some exhaust synergy to your deck but I agree, its not good.

Final thoughts: In my extremely fallible opinion, you underrate cumulative value. We've seen it with upgrading claw and we're seeing it with upgrading metallicize. Also, it would have been nice if you'd committed earlier to multi-metallicize meta. BUT this was a great run, you played well, the deck was fun to watch, and I just had a great time watching. See you same time tomorrow, bud :D
Nice try NL. When you have the relic that gives you intangibility every sixth turn, you do not need to rely on luck to make it work. With the block you had, you could have stalled on the elite fight right before the final boss to guarantee yourself intangibility during the turn it hit you for sixty.

ok listen NL, transforming a card is never a Diceroll, it is ALWAYS good. You remove the worst card in the game from your deck(Strikes and Defends) and you add something. That something could be good, it could be mediocre, or it could be something insanely good. There is no card worse than strike or defend. Every card is better than Strike or Defend.
Always good. Just like when you play defect and transform into a meteor strike floor 1...
And grand finale on silent. But I do agree, transform is always worth at the beginning.

Usually good, not nearly always. Some cards are simply unplayable or useless in the early game.
I actually agree with you. Even if it is, as the others have said, Grand Finale or Meteor Strike, at least you get something to build around or into. If I get Grand Finale as The Silent, I will try to remove some cards and get Well-Laid Plans. It's a good idea to get started, I think.

This is what kills me... is debating upgrading Iron Wave, Metalicize, body slam all the while armaments is sitting in his deck :S
The 3 flame barriers my boy skipped. Its basically a caltrops on steroids yet he just dismisses and takes iron wave.
In hind sight you actually could have set up the incense burner to trigger on the 2nd turn, but it was a long shot, good run tough :)

Where did NL get this fixation on deck thinning? He keeps undermining his runs by skipping really good cards and removing cards against purchasing good relics.

and the comment on early episodes. to be fair, the early episodes his deck is very thick, like consistently 35+ thick, with dubious card choices, with his condition is better than strike.
Oh, I don’t watch hafus stuff. I’d be really surprised if she had very many ascension 20 floor 4 wins rolling thin-deck strats. It’s incredibly difficult to progress through early floors when you pass on card picks and spend gold on card removal instead of relics and/or cards. I’ll have to watch some of her slay the spire gameplay and see her approach.
@@bentleytcoleman he got the deck-thinning from the comments, but, as usual, Egglord drew his own stupid conclusions from it. he's trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.
people told him, repeatedly, that he should thin his decks out (since he usually ended with 30-35 cards) and to start removing basic strikes/defends once he's added enough good cards, which is good advice. however, in typical Egglord logic, he twisted it and convoluted it into, "oh, i should only take cards that fix this specific archetype i'm going for and skip everything else and remove strikes/defends over everything else". you can see this in other runs (and even this one), where he skips the second Metallicize he's offered because "one is good enough" or in previous episodes where he had one poison card on The Silent and decided that anything that wasn't poison wasn't worth adding.
everyone can see that this is hurting him SEVERELY. he's now so obsessed with it that it's hurting him more the just adding whatever he liked. you can see it about 20-30 episodes back where he was losing on runs with 16-17 card decks that barely had any "gas", as he calls it, and blames his decks for being "too thick".
he also keeps getting all the god damned key pieces ASAP and he's hurting himself severely. it's all compounding to all these retarded, Ascension 0 loses where he loses on the first and second floor repeatedly for absolutely zero reason. it doesn't help that he refuses, for some reason, to take almost any event with a negative slant to it for no reason, even if he'd be completely fine.
Bentley Coleman she does win pretty consistently and breezed through the original ascension levels w thin deck strats, she's pretty good. But she's also a pro gamer and NL simply isn't no matter how many times he says it lol
How is he always forgeting to block first vs the heart ? I mean how ? It's like trying to eat soup with a fork and then remembering "Oh I need a spoon!"

I have 130 hours of slay the spire on steam. Since NL is on episode 368 he probably has double that. So how could he think defrag is bad until just now???

"Right now dual wield does nothing for us" - but egg your metalisize is doublable or dual wield body slams just to put them in your deck

NL REALLY overvalues armaments. And I'm actually shook he took iron wave over flame barrier, the best defensive card for Ironclad.

NL, I enjoyed this run. Just one pro-tip, when in doubt, upgrade cards you play often.

Thin deck meta is almost as good as no key meta in greed.
And by that i mean god damn bad.
You value lowering the odds of drawing a basic attack or defend to the point of spending almost 200 gold getting rid of one, but you also lower your odds of getting a basic card when your deck has more than god damn 17 cards and two thirds of it are basic.
I know its a next level play but I would have used your insane armor bonus on the last elite fight to time your incense intangibility with the bosses turn 2 to allow you to skip the massive hit. I will admit that this is all in hindsight but it would have a been a sick play.
Transform doesn't need to give you a game winning card to be worthwhile. You're clearly starting to recognize the strength of removing starting cards. Transform gets rid of a strike just as much as removing it. The difference comes with the addition of a random card. But especially in the beginning, there are very few bad cards to get. Early transformation is usually a raw deck improvement.
At least you're aware you overrate Armaments. Its not a bad card by a long shot, the issue is you should be upgrading at campfires as often as possible, and once all your critical cards are upgraded Armaments loses the aspect that makes it good. Its still a nice pickup early or in a deck where you're struggling to get enough upgrades.
Agreed. The gremlin mob fight is often one of the hardest Act 1 fights. One of the reasons early AoE damage is so good to have is mainly to neuter these rough mob fights.
If you want Omamori over the sapphire key, then take the damn relic. You're way to quick to pull the trigger on the keys.
Metalicize is one of those cards that gets better the more you have. Don't be afraid to take multiple or Dual Wield them.

Philosopher's Stone if rather dangerous considering you're going for a Heart kill. Giving the Heart extra strength for its multi-hit attack is gonna hurt. Fusion Hammer might be the right pick up here. You still have Armaments to upgrade your deck too. Kind of a tough call though.
I like the Blind pickup. You vastly underrate the power of weakness.Even now you picked up Blind saying it was for "artifact removal". C'mon, weakness is such a strong damage mitigation tool.
Why did you skip Flame Barrier!? It fits perfectly. You want strong block heavy cards in that deck. The thorns are the icing on the cake. And you know what a sweet tooth the Heart has.
Decent attempt at the Heart. Looking back, dumping your gold for the Red Mask might have turned things. Starting the fight with artifacts stripped of would let the weakness from Blind take hold easier. Might have saved enough health on the elites to make the Heart doable. Then again, you'd be stuck with Normality so who knows.

NL.. don't feel low.. it's the effort trying that matters!
Same archetype just better overall, you upgraded your deck at the end of the turn, do it at the start and use rest for keys, youll be better off overall, much less pressure on you early on if you get important upgrades
Also bronze scale is cool with the build, defends and strikes are ultimately dead cards vs boss

Does NL over value energy? I feel like he should have removed 2 cards from the first floor boss relic.
He should really dual wield Metallicize but keep at least one Metallicize always in his deck to dual wield again rather than just autoplaying the card when he gets it or only playing 2 of them I'm pretty sure Dual wield is the only other way to keep generating powers other than a Creative AI Defect Deck.

I have not played Slay the Spire before but Brutality seems like an absolutely insane card right? It's a free phyrexian arena, that should fit in every deck.
Tundra Turtle card advantage doesn’t work the same in sts as in magic, you draw a completely new hand every turn and you don’t get to hold on to your old one so drawing one extra card every turn doesn’t change that much and the damage adds up.
Why take ruby at the first?
At 22:55 he blocks for 10 while The Chosen is hitting for 12, and he doesn't take damage. Someone care to explain?
WOW, I think it's a glitch: the game didn't take in account the 1 strength buff from the red stone relic --> 5 * 2 = 10, that is exactly the block he had

24:15 Your Deck Evaluation is really lacking. Barricade Decks are so simple. 1) Pull every Attack except Body Slam (and Headbut, to get Body Slam faster) 2) Take nearly every Block (True Grid is so good in this situation). 3) Search for Entrench (visit as many shops as possible to pull cards and buy entrench).
Please try finding the best order to play cards before you play them every tirn instead of some turns. Example: gaining as much block as possible before playing body slam

Hp loss deck is good if you have ways to get more than the default 6 hp per fight back
Nl you are focusing to much in getting the keys than using the first floor to solidify the strategy for the deck to make the other floors more affordable to get the keys.

Seriously concerned for Northern Lions well-being. His play has regressed tenfold recently can no longer understand simple concepts and card combinations. He barely even complete non-ascension level runs. I suggest taking a break and clearing your head because this series is becoming so stale and your play is not improving at all.
Not even a minute in, the run hasn't actually started, and already NL's decided to be stupid. +8 Max HP > removing 2 cards.
