It's much better to neutralize the effects of the Frail. - Sunder+, especially with Bag of Marbles, is pretty huge. I'd definitely take it. - Still, a very well handled boss fight. NL may have actually got better at drafting towards a boss, or alternatively the more aggressive play worked out in his favor. Either or, a good act 1. - Biased Cognition is a really, really, really good card. Choker has interesting synergy with Stopwatch, but it does not play nice with the 0 cost stuff nor possible Echo Forms. I think Nuclear Battery is better, even though it's temporary. NL wants orb slots anyways. Act 2: - I'd like the Steam Barrier over the Doom and Gloom. You really only need one in my experience, especially with Pocketwatch to tear through NL's deck. - With Bag of Marbles I think I'd go for the Mutagenic Strength over the transform. The only unfortunate thing is eating any artifact, but the extra frontloaded damage makes up for that IMO. - The second Biased... Pray for Orange Pellets. - NL's not playing around the Pocketwatch. Stop throwing out 4 damage strikes! - He's going full zane. Capacitor is so much better than a friggin third Biased Cognition for NL that it isn't even funny. More Orb Slots equals more opportunities to have that energy, more space for Frost and Dark, scaling outside of the 3 Biased Cognitions... - Incense Burner is huge. Stone Calendar, not so much... At least he's considering a potion. - The Second Claw is not good. - Not playing Biased is absolutely the right call. Having 3 in the first place is the wrong one, but at least he played with them decently. - I think the Crown is the wrong call. NL has almost zero reliable scaling since Biased Cognition is doing so much of the carrying, so he needs to fish for something like a Creative AI or a Core Surge. Maybe if he hadn't bought the Stone Calendar? Machine Learning is okay I guess, but it makes NL super vulnerable to the Awakened One. Here's hoping for the 1/3 chance. Act 3: - NL can't complain about not drawing Doom and Gloom if he's throwing away 3 cards for 6 damage. - With Unceasing Top energy production is actually very good. - Compile Driver+ is great. - Holy hell, NL ended turn with 11 after saying that he had Unceasing Top and explicitly preparing for it, making him take another 11 damage. - NL's scaling is almost nonexistent. Very surprised NL doesn't value Chill (very first pick in the video), considering he's forcing the Frost Focus archetype every run. I pick it almost every time I see it, a lot of value for 0 energy.
It's the same as in hearthstone. A combination of two cards is often better than a cheaper one that only does half the effect because each turn you are gated by the number of cards you draw and how much impact you can do with them. Chill just doesn't have enough impact to be picked because it destroys your dmg orbs (lightning/dark) and doesn't even give much block (only 2 against a single enemy). Yeah, 2 block is nice for free but it simply doesn't have enough impact to be worth a card. When monsters attack, you want to put as much block as possible, so you are better of picking glacier and in turns where they don't attack you don't need the 2 passive block because you don't want to destroy your lightning/dark orbs.
NL with the anti-synergy plays. he took Scrape (when he only had a Claw and Dual Cast for zero cost cards), then upgraded it, and kept throwing away stuff like Doom and Gloom+ and Echo Form. it hurt to watch.

You know, I'm not sure biased cognition is as great as a card as it seems. It's very good short term but if you cant kill your enemy fast enough or you stack a lot of biased cognition you start to go below 0 focus and if you have a orb build, which biased cognition is kinda best for, going below zero is a death sentence in boss fights were you're most likely to draw out the battle long enough for biased cognition to bring you below zero focus.
Biased cognition, i think, is good for basic floor fights. It gives you the focus to finish fights quickly where you won't really need to worry about the timer killing you I think it struggles on some bosses and stuff though. Basically any fight that you cant end in 2-3 turns is going to be painful
Yeah, it's nice for burst block/damage, which can be nice because the Defect has plenty of ways to build to be powerful on long fights, but you have to know when you just can't play it, and you probably don't want tons of them in your deck unless you have reliable ways to draw past them, or get rid of them, in fights where you can't really survive playing them.
It's basically the same as Wraith Form imo, very situational and sometimes really good but definitely shouldn't be played/stacked at the start of a fight

I’m really getting into this game. Still a little confused about some choices NL makes. Curious if someone could help me out by explaining the whole Biased vs. Echo and about negative focus?
Focus is a buff to all your orbs depending on the type. Frost gives more block the higher your focus and lightning deals more damage. Biased is a card that increases your focus more than most other cards; but has a penalty that it reduces focus every turn. So eventually it'd debuff your orbs till they give zero block and deal zero damage. And if you build a deck focused on orbs you'd end up with most of your deck being useless. The negative effect of the card can avoided if you have an artifact. But artifact is one of the rarest statuses in the game. And you need to make sure you play the card with the status before playing biased cognition and whilst artifacts aren't lost at the end of a turn any debuff an enemy tries will use up the artifact. So being able to draw an artifact on the same turn as biased is pretty much a requirement for the synergy to be reliable. If you don't have an artifact you need to be sure you can kill the boss faster than your focus runs out or you need another way to increase your focus. Echo just plays the first card you pick on every turn twice. So it basically makes almost every card in your deck twice as good. And if you have cards which exhaust or powers which are one and done; you can easily snowball by doubling cards which are balanced to only be played once in most situations. There are very few decks which wouldn't benefit from an echo. But taking biased requires building around the card to make sure you don't run into turns with useless orbs. It's not too difficult to pull off and if you can it is a very power combo. But if you don't manage to find the right cards and relics it'll almost guarantee a loss in longer fights.
@@MissBond4007 Octavian is far too classy to tell you this, but NL is also absolutely terrible at the game. This comment section isn't just a meme, he routinely throws runs by misplaying with nearly every click, and his card values (as you can see) are absolutely out of whack and do not relate to his deck in any way. Once he decides a card is good, it's almost an instant pick up, even if it'll hurt his deck overall. For example, he had a nice thin claw deck in the beginning of this run. You see what the mess was that he had by the end. = ) Check out Rhapsody on TH-cam if you're interested in some actually decent gameplay and you aren't just here for the egglord. = D
I really liked seeing you actively using Pocketwatch and you really blazed throught the floor fights. Although you'd have to be high to justify some of those misplays.
NL, my actual Egg Father. Biased Cog on bosses without Artifacts or Consume/Capacitor will kill you 9 times out of 10. Especially in a deck with no scaling damage from Focus and that relies on Frost orbs for all of its block. Come on.
NL.. I was really disappointed that we didn't get to see asc 18 and 19, but I kept on watching because I was glad we at least get to see the glorious 20. This is the second time I give one of your vids a thumbs down in many years. :(
actually he beat ascension 20 also, but he did say he was "practising for beating asc 18 off camera" so that leads me to believe he's just going to continue on trying to beat asc 18 and up on camera again

I haven't been watching for 420 episodes to have your first time beating Ascension to be done off camera. It'd be like watching a Batman movie and it ends with a title card that says " and then Batman beat the Joker." Please practice on Ascensions you have already beaten or you'll lose viewers on this series.

Honestly I'm not sure it was the actual misplay of biased that caused him to lose, really the only other option he had was to double down like he said and play all biased as quickly as possible (and with echo form). He just simply did not have enough block/dmg without biased to survive otherwise. The boss never would have been 2 turns away from dying. More of a drafting misplay then micro, either that or he needed some source of artifact, maybe even one artifact would have been enough.
He never reads the patch notes and didn't realize it changed until his next run, actually as he doesn't read the screen either. It was changed like five months ago.

Dark orb focused builds are my favorite decks to make with recurssion being my favorite card to use

Taking that Double Energy was a genius play, on a synergy (unceasing top, especially with echo form) that is easy to miss.

@@MissBond4007 Octavian is far too classy to tell you this, but NL is also absolutely terrible at the game. This comment section isn't just a meme, he routinely throws runs by misplaying with nearly every click, and his card values (as you can see) are absolutely out of whack and do not relate to his deck in any way. Once he decides a card is good, it's almost an instant pick up, even if it'll hurt his deck overall.
For example, he had a nice thin claw deck in the beginning of this run. You see what the mess was that he had by the end. = )

NL, my actual Egg Father. Biased Cog on bosses without Artifacts or Consume/Capacitor will kill you 9 times out of 10. Especially in a deck with no scaling damage from Focus and that relies on Frost orbs for all of its block. Come on.
NL.. I was really disappointed that we didn't get to see asc 18 and 19, but I kept on watching because I was glad we at least get to see the glorious 20. This is the second time I give one of your vids a thumbs down in many years. :(
actually he beat ascension 20 also, but he did say he was "practising for beating asc 18 off camera" so that leads me to believe he's just going to continue on trying to beat asc 18 and up on camera again

@@MsTryana Yeah that's absolutely fair, though I think it will still be somewhat of a milestone, I don't think beating all that again will be an easy task. I don't think he's gotten that much better, or at least from this video he didn't really showcase his skill all that much.

I haven't been watching for 420 episodes to have your first time beating Ascension to be done off camera. It'd be like watching a Batman movie and it ends with a title card that says " and then Batman beat the Joker." Please practice on Ascensions you have already beaten or you'll lose viewers on this series.

Honestly I'm not sure it was the actual misplay of biased that caused him to lose, really the only other option he had was to double down like he said and play all biased as quickly as possible (and with echo form). He just simply did not have enough block/dmg without biased to survive otherwise. The boss never would have been 2 turns away from dying. More of a drafting misplay then micro, either that or he needed some source of artifact, maybe even one artifact would have been enough.
