Not taking that Glacier after talking about his lack of block for 5 minutes hurts me spiritually.
Especially given he had the upgraded defrag T_T

20:00 That glacier can literally win you the run. Especially if you just hit it with madness. Instead you passed it by without a second thought despite the fact that you have defrag and the glacier is MINIMUM 19 block for playing it.

In general, your play in fights is at least passable. The one exception is the shield + sword fight. Your target selection and deciding who to attack is actually just abysmal. ONLY YOUR LAST ATTACK / TARGETED SKILL SHOULD DETERMINE YOUR DIRECTION. So no point in hitting a dude with 50 block.
Why would he skip glacier on the 3rd act? The man is dying for block and almost never uses all of his energy
It doesn't synergizes with Claw therefore it is worthless.
Imagine if he got madness>glacier maybe he could’ve won
Madness + Glacier requires you to play cards in the correct order = egg anti-synergy.
He uses madness before using all the powers in his hand.

Takes Defrag and the skips one of the best overall defensive cards in the game if you've got ANY increase to focus at all... But sure... And oh yeah? We are overflowing with energy and also can make it free for All For One? Nah...

Not taking the glacier? With a Defrag? While lacking block? I thought that was the entire point of taking Defrag so you could get some frost going?
NEVER pass on glacier (unless you took hyperbeam)
Also you actually don't always want to madness All for one, odd as it sounds, you probably want to hit a charge battery or something so you get that back.
Unless you have 2 then you want that infinite cycle of course
you actually do want to madness 1 for all. If you upgrade hologram so it doesnt exhaust then you can combo forever as using hologram to fish 1for all will make the hologram come back and you rinse and repeat for ultimate zane/ infinite dmg.

If you go heavy with attacks you need defensive orbs to avoid some of that damage, if you go heavy defensive you want offensive orbs to get some extra damage out
Skips Go for the eyes AND Glacier.

I don't get why NL wants to play roulette with Madness every turn. He can just force it to hit the card he wants by playing all other cards not already costing 0.
He's been playing roulette with madness in every game he plays, not just slay the spire.

Was going to comment this but you said it best! Also he passed on good complements like sweeping beam and go for the eyes. I guess its not worth thinking about as investing the thought only improves his hold on our subconscious.
Orerry (the five card choices thing) would have been so much better for eggman. He passed 5 chances to get claws and other great cards early.
MrMharv42 agreed i could give him even more 0 cost cards to shape his deck or at least flesh out the deck in general

Madness all for one and hologram, even if he just cycles them and 1 claw the hologram block would keep him from taking damage from playing cards and its a 1 turn win against the last boss after its set up.

ym_Raisin It's the best event in the game, especially at lower levels where you get 5 apparitions instead of 3
That would have been such a huge enabler for what he was trying to do. He would have had at least those 5 turns to set up his claw and all for one synergy. He needs to slow down and think about his situation more. NL is too set in his ways it seems to do that though.

Now that I think about it, I believe NL's problem is that he is scared to step out of his comfort zone. Which adds to what I was saying about him being set in his ways. This game is incredible at offering options but does not do a very good job at teaching players about the interactions that those options have. I would like to see a tutorial mode which showed cool interactions for this game.
That glacier skip 5 seconds after complaining about a lack of block was pure comedy, I mean you already knew the run was fucked when he picked up the first claw but that was on another level. The only way this man will win with the defect is with a dead branch and forcing him to use picked up defrags + frostcards.
This Egg has such a rigid view of archetypes. Passing up Glacier because "it's not that kind of run"? He absolutely deserved the loss to the Heart by lack of block. Such a shame, he was doing well.
he always does this shit and it's so frustrating. he knows how to win, he has all the pieces, but, he just can't seem to fit them together. his eggy brain just can't seem to comprehend that it's OK to take cards that "don't fit an archetype". he's doing it slightly more then in the past few dozen episodes. i remember him doing a Silent Poison deck and he had one poison card and basically skipped everything because "it's not a poison card". yesterdays video was a great example too: he almost died to the first boss because he passed up almost every attack because it wasn't a "discard meta".

Literally just finished saying he wants more cards that give him draw, block, or claws. Then takes a relic that gives him less card choices.
When you're looking for a certain card,busted crown is shooting yourself in the leg,even more if you take it on the first boss chest

@@Black-Light yeah, he certainly didn't need the extra energy, Also hyperbeam would have been good. Instead of removing strikes,remove double cast and zap.roll with hyperbeam. Creating more Dex.

Two all for one's with madness reducing them both to 0 would make for a wicked infinite damage potential.
He had hologram. It's also probably better because hologram gives block and he had kunai. Idk if it would work against heart though. I'm to lazy to run the math

I managed to get Rage into an All for One deck via the note in the wall event for an easy heart kill, but otherwise it takes heavy frost and loop action in conjunction with your claws.
probably a little nitpicky but had he not have taken busted crown he would have ran into more claws.
You don't need more than 2 claws in a thin deck with Hologram and All for one though. He was so thin that adding any more stuff like that just meant he was gonna get no block turns.
I think this is the first time in months I've been excited to see an All For One pop up.

Young Scum about as likely as defending hologram, buffer, or self repair as deck agnostic.
He just won as Silent while taking nice cards and not focusing on his thin deck archetype, but now it's back :(
I mean NL will literally pick up a Claw as that first card as the Defect and go THIS IS A CLAW RUN. So I'm not surprised
@@MAVIE95 claw runs are usually pretty easy to build. Ngl. And if not a claw run then 0 cost runs come naturally as well. The problem was this man also took an energy relic that limited his ability to get more claws/0 cost cards

In a claw deck, if you get Rebound, FTL and Claw on the same turn, the order is
Rebound->Claw->FTL
Needs very specific cards to allow him to play his zero cost attacks more often.
Takes cracked crown for more energy than he's likely to be able to use and less card choice.
If ever there was a run where NL needs to read the comments, it's this one.
ANYONE and EVERYONE can tell you: take Go For the Eyes and Glacier with this build, and it didn't need extra energy.
I'd recommend fighting more elites. Especially on ascention 0, its a good way to test your deck, and get relics. I feel relics buff your run more than cards most of the time.
drivingatank Most would recommend fighting more elites at Ascenscion 20 as well if you are planning to kill heart.
This was actually a great deck, you played well too imo. Just not enough defence is what it came down to. Maybe Busted Crown after act 1 was not the best choice in a claw deck, frost would have been great here. Good run though!
33:00 NL you can throw potions to face one of the enemies there.
With (an upgraded) Hologram, All for One and 2 Madness, he had the opportunity to go infinite very easily, even against the final boss. rip.
I was looking for this comment. Such a waste. That infinite with kunai especially.. you can just spam all for one and get retarded amounts of Dex up for the heart damage ceiling.
Imagine double madness hitting double All for one. Instant win right there.
Egg, I tweeted you about transforming cards, and I'm happy you took it to heart, but you haven't transformed a single card since you mentioned it. That event that gets you JAX, two cards or a relic? in a lot of decks it's WAY better to get the transformations than to have 3 strength for one turn unless you have bag of prep and/or snake ring and a shitloa of shivs or riddle With Holes or something.
Remember: Basically anything is better than strikes and defends except curses, and even then some curses can still be more beneficial to your run than strikes/defends. Transforming them into something else does one of two things: Gives you something you want, or gives you something you don't want. Either option is better than a strike or a defend because with option 1 you get something useful, and with option 2 you were gonna remove that card from your deck at some point anyway.

Why not play Rebound, claw, Ftl on damage turns to get it back? Even with both claws and rebound in your hand you are playing ftl first, what are you hoping to draw?
Great idea to make All For One cost 0, because in the situation when you don't have a second All For One in the deck and you end every turn with more than 2 energy it has a huge value, only a madmen would make a defence cost 0 and give himself another chance to survive.
Also, great plays in the last shop. Strenght potion x2 sounds like a terrible idea when you play 20 attacks in single turn.. After all it's just 80 dmg.

Str isn't that valuable on this particular deck, since the majority of his damage is coming from claws, which is inbuilt str anyway

Why play madness before playing your power cards? This is double the sin because you have All For One and could potentially lose out on getting to play your madness'd cards twice in a turn.

Wouldnt the goal of this run be to get madness to hit all for one and hologram? I.E you would then have an infinite loop of attacks meaning you cant lose?
But then against the Heart it's one damage for every card played. If there was another Madness to hit a block card it probably would be winnable due to the Kunai scaling.
With kuni scaling affecting hologram it would be infinite against the heart

Why use madness on All for One?! You kept having leftover energy, and All for One can't bring back itself. You were needing to bring back blocks instead.

Madness on All for one can be amazing. But only if you have the other madness hit an upgraded Hologram. Infinite cycle.

NL, please. Losing card choice is a BAD THING, not some hidden silver lining. 0 cost decks don't need extra energy. Less card choices means less chances to find Claw. Busted Crown is not the relic you want to pick with a Claw deck. Its possibly the worst energy relic you could take with Claw.
So something, positive, you're sort of learning how to use Madness. You're recognizing you can play other potential targets and leave the one last card to guarantee Madness hits it. That's good. Now you need to learn what you should be hitting. Yes, normally you want to hit those high cost cards and make them free. In this deck though, hitting All for One. You already have too much energy to use, the cost isn't an issue. You should be hitting Hologram or Rebound so All for One can bring those back and prolong the wombo combo.
And the Heart once more rips you a new one. Please, you had a beautifully streamlined Claw deck (finally) and it got stomped into the ground. I'm not saying you can't win with a Claw deck, but forcing an archetype that the Heart shuts down is making this so much harder than it ought to be.
presuming he could have landed the madness on the all for one and the upgraded hologram, he could have gone on nearly infinitely, right? Even if the heart has a damage cap, the sheer amount of dex he could have gained off of that should have kept him alive.
@@Avoncarstien True that could go infinite. I don't think that strategy would save him on the Heart fight though. It requires you to hit Madness on Hologram and All for One in a timely fashion. With the way NL built that deck, there's no way he'd live long enough to get that perfect setup before the Heart ends him. Maybe if he took Reprogram or found a Seek (Busted Crown sends its regards) and had some deck control it could have worked.

completely agree with all your statements. He also screwed up slightly on the elite before it. He could have used a poison potion to turn around and avoid some of that damage he thought was unavoidable
NL seriously needs to stop thinking in archetypes, because that Glacier, "Not that kind of deck," moment was very strange.

Go for the eyes... Maybe.
You... Skipped Glacier. The singlemost valuable non-rare card in the game... When you could have played madness on it in a thin deck... In a deck that was starving for defense.
And finally, and this is the best part, you decided rebound FTL was better than rebound claw. Which is only true if you're needing to make sure you draw the extra card to get either to claw or anticipated a need for defense.
You went way, way, way too fast and let a winning deck down. Don't get drunk on victory. This Act's great deck is next Act's barely decent deck.

"I really want some draw" -skips Sweeping Beam, a cheap attack that draws and increments Kunai
"I really need some block" -skips Glacier which at that point would be a target for Madness, synergizes with your Defrag, and synergizes with your Dex gain
