Heart disease and strokes to run in my family ☹️ Ive been on blood pressure medicine for 24 yrs and now cholesterol meds. Im having some muscle tightness and nerve issues. Its scary. Im trying to eat more just plant base now reading all the facts. Ive been told Im loosing muscle mass in menopause now😳( of course why not more) I want to make sure I’m eating enough protein and getting enough vitamins being on plant base. I may have to keep taking the cholesterol meds, not sure. Im trying to find a simple way to get proper amounts of vitamins and minerals and not have to eat so much. Eat one brazil nut a week, have oatmeal with an apple and some cinnamon for breakfast, have citrus fruits and other fruits for snacks or with/after meals, incorporate kale and beans into your meals (or make a kale smoothie as suggested)...I plan on making a kale and bean soup today for my lunches since the weather is cold here right now otherwise I would have a mixed greens salad that includes kale, some beans, and probably some fruit (I like using apples as " croutons". I've never had a Gogi berry before but I also like add cranberries to my salads so I wonder if we could use gogi berries too??? I'll have to research that.) Eat whole grains...no white bread. So, brown rice, quinoa, rye bread or sourdough i think is good for you (stuff like that, google whole grains to see a more extensive list). Also limit brown rice because it is higher in arsenic (always rinse before cooking). I believe she also recommends Basmati rice in another video. This is certainly very basic and just some examples of what you can eat, you'll want to vary your diet a bit more to get all your nutrients. Think: eat the rainbow, plant diversity. I hope this helps.

    Morning. What about the lectins in oats you don’t seem to be a worried about lectins like some doctors.

    • @Healthyimmunedoc
      @Healthyimmunedoc  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      All plants have lectins. These are a collection of different types of proteins that bind to carbohydrate that are natural pesticides for the plant. Some lectins are super toxic like ricin in castor oil. In food, the highest concentrations are in beans followed by grains. Lectins are considered to be anti-nutrients and can cause bad symptoms when eaten in excess. Lectins can be removed by wet heat and soaking. Always use high heat to cook beans like a pressure cooker and avoid slow cookers. Cook beans thoroughly until soft and nearly all the lectin will be removed. Some residual lectins may be beneficial. Lectins slow down the rate of starch digestion and inhibits digestion ie you reduce your calories. They also are strong antioxidants and have anti-cancer properties. Billions of people have eaten beans and grains for thousands of years. Population studies have shown ancient cultures who eat predominantly whole food plant based have less cancer, less autoimmune diseases, less chronic metabolic diseases and less cardiovascular diseases. I don't think people are eating lectin rich foods to get their medical conditions.

    Modern fruit has been greatly modified by growers over centuries to be several times sweeter than the original natural fruit, so the fructose levels now are unnaturally high and it’s good to bare that in mind when consuming it.

      The studies don't reflect your claims, and fruit are still a healthy choice in abundance. Sorry to be the bearer of neutral news. Most of these miniscule differences in vitro don't actually reflect tangible, objective changes on human health.

    so are we still in the camp that LDL is by itself the issue? despite all the research showing triglycerides are the real killer and that statins only increase your lifespan by an average of 4 days?

    I was told my cholesterol is genetic & food won’t help lower it. So I was prescribed statins
    Disappointed because I did not want to take statins

      My theory is never take statins when you can eat any of the 10 foods mentioned by Dr. Liu, which lower your cholesterol.

    I'm losingg the plot here. So say someone has hemochromatosis, should they cook the beans with the soaking water? This is very trying. There are so many combinations of foods to avoid in order to prevent iron absorption, and wouldnt you know, the majority of recipes have just those exact combinations so as to maximize iron intake. 🤬 This is learning from step 1 all over again and the challenge is truly overwhelming. Add the acute diveticulitis, Feels like I'm losing the battle on both fronts.

    I don’t agree with what you’re saying about fruit. My friend who ate that much fruit got told that she was pre-diabetic and the only cause could be the fruit she ate on the daily.

      Yes too much fruit can cause that! My experience is oats in the morning and I saw a significant reduction in test. The doctor was really surprised.

      @inquisitvem6723 - I think you meant to type "pomegranate," didn't you? (The way you spelled this fruit's name refers to a special-and little known-hybrid that is eaten only by high school students during their junior &/or senior years while attending a formal dance given at their schools each year, usually sometime late in the spring.)

    YOuTube pro tip: If you're gonna hold stuff up in your thumbnail, TALK about the specific thing you held up, to keep your integrity high....doesn't have to be in the first minute, but waiting till last is a nasty trick that works against you....just somewhere in the first quarter or third of the video.......i want to see you succeed long term....you've lost me on a couple vids by abandoning/avoiding the VERY thing you used to generate traffic......hello!?....
