Man those were the happy days, lol. It'd be nice to redo it in MSFS2020 but man they take a long time, and I'd have to get MSFS2020...but alas no time, for 2 sims
I personally use 40 deg of flaps for a 737, but that is not always the case. Friends of mine who fly an actual 737-800 are reluctant to put more than 25 deg of flaps on landings because it slows the plane down too much and makes the plane sink like a rock. They only use 40 deg of flaps on shorter runways in a 737-800. In the end it is up to the pilots in command to decide what flap setting he/she wants to use.
What an incredible approach and landing - we could feel that you are truly relaxed when you maneuver through those highly dangerous turns before touch down. Great Inspiration for learners.
I've never flown an airliner in real life. And baring some miracle where both pilots get sick and I'm the only pilot left in a airliner I never will, LOL. Then I look at the bright side, flying airliners is a job, you fly whether you want to or not and you go where you are scheduled. Someone like myself will rent a plane (usually with my best buddy who flies a 747) and I'll go where my heart takes me :) Wind under the wing is the same for a Piper or Cessna as it is for a 747
There are some modifications and tips I recommend based on watching some real-world videos and having tried it in the sim myself: - Ignore the 11500ft restriction when skimming the side of the forge, and aim to be at around 9500-9700ft when starting the turn. - Complete the turn at 8500-8700ft. - 30 degrees of bank is enough. Any higher and you may get bank angle warnings - Begin the S-shaped turn at around 500-600ft radio and level off at around a 165-170deg heading. I find that these are much closer to what I've seen in real-world videos and it gives me much more reasonable decent rates (no more than 1200ft/min at any stage). P.S. there aren't any written procedures on this approach that I can find. I think it's one of those things where each pilot has his/her own way of doing it and they get this from simulator training or from watching the captain do it for years in the right seat.
thx for the approach tutorial, mate, i always want to do this approach......................this is a very crazy approach.....................i think it supposed to be in the 10 most dangerous airports list
Nice video! Some "What if" - questions ;-) What about the missed approach? On your Jepp plates it's to the North for RWY33. What if you loose Nr 2 engine just before the 270º turn? Are you gonna turn into a death engine with 135kt and 30-40º AOB? Or is there an escape route out of that valley? What if 15kt tailwind? Any option for a circling towards RWY 33? Straight In RWY 33 possible? What are the diversion airfields in the neighborhood? Do you also have a video of the take-off? (both RWY's feasible?) Nice tutorial though!
Superb flying not to mention the clarity of the briefing.. wonder whether you have done another using the RNAV approach to 15 or 33? Excellent thank you.
@FlyUPS767 on an ILS approach you focus on keeping the GS needle centered & it will take you to the runway threshold, on a visual approach the weather needs to be good enough for you to be able to judge the descent visually (what you said), you can only go full visual when you see the runway
If I'm flying an ATR-72 for the approach, I can fly at a lower speed and a gentler bank when doing the 240-degree turn to the final right? Thanks for this helpful video! I've been looking for this approach proceedure for years!
Do the landing on to the runway 33 need to follow the valley all the way down to the runway? By the way, good tutorial, I've kept this as a reference already!
An excellent presentation!! Thank you!! Any chance we may also see a similar briefing and flight for approaching the 33? With appreciation and gratitude.
Disengaging the autopilot depends on two things. 1. Company rules. Each airline company has their rules when a pilot must use the autopilot. 2. Pilots decision. As long as you comply with your company's rules on autopilot use, it is up to the pilot to decide when to disengage the autopilot. I personally disengage the autopilot (in the flight sim) any time I'm below 18,000 feet because I like to fly manually.
You can glance at it, but it really it is more experience. You know almost by instinct f you are high or low. 1500 fpm is standard for a descent except when on final, at which point it can be 700-1000 fpm. These are just guidelines, you have to be able to adapt as you go. Experience is the key. When you've done 2000 landings, you really don't need a PAPI to tell you where you are on the approach, you should know.
That is a different procedure if you want to do it properly, there has to be a transition from instrument flying to visual flying, you cant just wing it. Meaning there is a final instrument point, and initial visual entry point and procedure. I doubt that it is published anywhere by I can usually figure it out, all I need is good 3 frames from a actual video.
Hi GVad, amazing video. I start to practice this approach yesterday but when I planned my route in PFPX, it didn't have "TAKTI" intersection in it, just from BOGOP straight to VOR PRO. Should I add the TAKTI between manually or is it just due to navdata cycle update? Thank you
Tomáš Ščerbák its probably nav data updates. There may be altogether a new approach by now, but you can still create the point (or there may be a point in the same spot with a different name now) and do this approach. Main thing is fly to the VOR and be there at 13500 feet
Hi Genc, Its really beautiful to see this approach, by the way i need a favor to know the link for scenery for the Paro which you have used, since i have purchased some paywares but they are not as fine as in your video so?
A fantastic tutorial 404, this was exactly what i was looking for to shoot this challenging approach. i was getting bored of innsbruck via ils and vfr. what scenery are you using? it sure dosent look like the stock scenery that comes with fsx.
Yes I do have third party scenery for Paro, I cant remember which, it should be in the description. However, I use FS9, not FSX. FSX frame rate is too slow even with some good computers. You cant help it. Either get a very powerful computer or change to FS9.
Hi! Nice approach, a proper job! But the critical thing about primitive sceneries of Paro is slightly wrong location of rwy in relation to mountains - check my approach called "Embraer E190 Visual Approach & Landing in Paro VQPR rwy 15 (FS9)" where I used a new scenery (payware by Thai Creation) - it seems far more realistic: compare how close the threshold of rwy 15 is to the slope - it is far less space for final turn, so you complete the lineup just at the threshold.
Just out of curiosity, why did you say "MSFS Only" at the start of the video? I have made a number of successful approaches into VQPR with this video as my guide in X-Plane 10.
Sam Rosenblum Travel and Gaming He was referring to the fact that this video shouldn't be used for real world procedures. He didn't mean that you con't use it for X-plane 10
Hi GVad! Nice job, men, however some minor comments: - The “downwind” turn depicted at about 2:30 on the video shows a track way too far off to the left; in fact not the ground track that you correctly fly later on, at about 8:30 on the video. - The altitudes are way too conservative, reason why you get several GPWS “sink rate” calls later on: on downwind before the turn it should be 9800`and at the end of the turn 8800`. The rest is pretty accurate!!! P.S. I will fly there a A319 next week and just came out of a SIM session covering the specific scenario. Bregrds.
Antonio Santos I literally did this approach by looking at a few frames from some actual videos. I am simply amazed that I got so much of it correct from what I had to work with. Thank you so much for the input from someone who actually trained to fly into this airport. This is simply amazing. I wish you many happy landings here, and maybe hopefully eventually a great video :)
Excellent video again...been hooked to this channel since i saw the way you have mastered the MHTG RNAV 02 apch...BTW IRL DrukAir flies A319s to this airport!
If I understand you correctly, you are asking if there are pre-made missions for FSX to fly into these airports? To my knowledge there aren't such missions, but it wouldn't surprise me if one of the computer whizes made them on his/her own.
Hi, Genc I have seen that all of the scenery files and add on you are using i have the same but my computer is performing fine. I am using SONY VAIO, Windows 7 64bits, intel core i7 second generation, 8GB RAM but i never found it comfortable to give me good results. Therefore kindly let me that what system and what configurations you are using.
Congratulations, excellent video and quite professional, both the briefing and the approach... Please allow the video reply I'm submitting of this same approach I flew in a Drukair (Royal Buthan Airlines) A319 in FSX, published about six months ago. Smooth landings
Gvad The Pilot two questions 1 with a dash 8 should the gear be down before the 35 degree turn ? 2 I found that if I approach at 9500 feet im to high for the runway I had to be about 8700 feet max after the turn why is that? is it different in fs2004 vs fsx?
Hello Genc I am speechless !! You are a super talented pilot. "dam good" excuse my language :) :) These videos are awesome. These I learned a lot from. So thank you for the good video series.
I always use manual controls including manual throttles for my videos. Its the only way to get better. Even current FAA reports show that pilots are becoming too attached to autopilot and automation, so they keep loosing their skills.
+GVad The Pilot (FSX404) wow! This is fastest reply I ever get from TH-cam. Thanks so much! Have been subscribing ur channel for years. Recently I m also trying to do this Paro runway 15 approach according to your video, but keep crashing the plane. I have some questions that hope u can answer. 1: what is the flap setting for this approach? Whenever I set my flaps more than 15 on my PMDG 737, the computer gives me the warning sound to put down the landing gears. But according to your video, you only put down gears after the final 240 degree roll. So how do u manage to get the air speed so low with flaps only about 10? 2nd: I saw those real world Bultan Pilots also land on runway 33 by following in valley. So what is the criterial that they decide which side of the runway to land? Thank you so much.
+GVad The Pilot (FSX404) there is a joke in China's aviation field (I m not sure if it is true, just according to my friend). Pilots will arm the autopilot as long as the airplane raises up its noise from the runway, then pull down the window curtain and light up a cigarette.
+Jia Xm for some of these approaches, some warnings have to be ignored. Im no expert on Paro, but just used my intuition and experience. Those pilots who fly in there for real know all the details. As much as I'd like to be correct, a lot of the airplane settings is best guess. It takes a while to get used to this approach, it is very hard so dont get discouraged, many people cant do it right even after many tries. My best advice is know your plane, know the power/descent handling of a plane. Practice something called slow flight so you know how power and pitch affect the plane descent and speed during landing. It will come. There is a 33 approach right through the mountains at Paro, I just havent done it, or looked at the approach yet. So I couldnt help you with it now. Good luck, keep flying manually.
Hi FSX404, I've been watching your channel for quite a long time already and really enjoyed it. I've watched every one of your videos and I thought I really want some more videos of yours... So can you please add an extra video to this "Flying in World Airports tutorials" series that teaches me how to do an ILS Approach to JFK RW 4L? Thanks a lot FSX404 expect more videos of yours!
Cool video! But as you can see in real approaches to rwy 15, its threshold is located much "earlier", i.e. much closer to the mountain slope, so the only way to get to the runway course and not to hit the slope is to complete left final turn just before the flare. To have this realistic terrain I use Paro Addon by Thai Creation.
After 10 years we still refer your video for PARO approach even a seasoned Pilot needs a Briefing oncourse to Paro lol !
Man those were the happy days, lol. It'd be nice to redo it in MSFS2020 but man they take a long time, and I'd have to get MSFS2020...but alas no time, for 2 sims
No other word....Superb! May 2017, and this is still the best tutorial for landing at Paro. Thank you, have subbed.
October '2022, still the best :)

Now i will think twice before going to bhutan!! lol!!.Very good briefing!!
thx for the approach tutorial, mate, i always want to do this approach......................this is a very crazy approach.....................i think it supposed to be in the 10 most dangerous airports list
absolutely loved the video , thanks for the awesome briefing explanation , very good job explaining :)

nice vid. i wonder if drukair pilots perform night landing at vqpr
Thanks to your tutorial I managed to land at Paro! Have you tried the Boeing B737 test flight demo route?
this is a very extraordinary and superb video.
WOW! I really liked the way you showed us everything! I subbed!
Great video!
This is a very good video. Thanks!
fantastic production of the video i have subbed to your channel thank you for the video.

hey man your one heck of a skilled pilot. Nice videos and many thanks for the tips you give :)
Good job!!! Where do you get the flight chart?
Super awesome. As always. Tanks FSX404...
Hi,
So, the VOR is where I disengage the autopilot if I'm using it?
thanks for creating this tutorial!
is this approach out of date? in xp11 the airport is lot more closer to the mountain, no room for s turn
Very informative GVad , many thanks
excellent analysis!
Unfortunately FSX has the elevation mesh wrong. There is no steep hill to the direct left of the airport.
Sure there is. Mesh exaggerates a bit, but not by much.
An excellent presentation!! Thank you!! Any chance we may also see a similar briefing and flight for approaching the 33? With appreciation and gratitude.
Very cool, good job :). Trying to learn how to use VORs and read approach charts so your videos are really useful.
Great job well done! But 135kts in a 737-700 at 7300ft? What was your payload and fuel quantity?
Nice vid, where did you get the scenery?
great video man.
Disengaging the autopilot depends on two things.

Great videos, everyone. My question to you is, what was you're final flap setting at TD? Thanks....
One of my favourite airfields/locations. Did you slow it down a bit?
Very well explained and executed. Thanks.
..
I followed your instructions, using a BAE 146 and nailed it first time. Very satisfying, thanks.
Great work!

Yes it does.....PARO Bhutan is in Landing Challenges. It SUCKS!!!!!!! What I mean is:
I have failed the approach 17 times
in a row and counting
Amazing FSX just Amazing !
LOL...FS2020 GO BRRRR.....
you are superb _____________!
Man, that's insane!
Please do one for Lukla and other extreame airports (St. martin, Gibraltar, Saba, Etc.)
Very good briefing sir
Faliminderit
I tried this approach and that turn to the point of the mountain is very tricky.
Old as this vid is, it's still great info. Just HAD to hit the like button, as it was on 999likes and 1k now lol.
It's portuguese. He said "well done buddy, congratulations! I always watch your videos"
respect man!!!
Where do you get the approach and landing charts?
Like a Boss! Nice job man!
Hi, Genc
I have seen that all of the scenery files and add on you are using i have the same but my computer is performing fine.
Do we have to activate sumthing ? for 1000,feet 200, 50,10, which the computer say at the final!?/ please help
what scenery is this?
Gvad The Pilot two questions 1 with a dash 8 should the gear be down before the 35 degree turn ? 2 I found that if I approach at 9500 feet im to high for the runway I had to be about 8700 feet max after the turn why is that? is it different in fs2004 vs fsx?
Hello Genc
I am speechless !! You are a super talented pilot. "dam good" excuse my language :) :)
These videos are awesome. These I learned a lot from. So thank you for the good video series.
I had been to Bhutan in 2012, 2013. Though scary landing and takeoff, I enjoyed it being ex aviation professional
Where were you flying from?
To say this approach is difficult is an understatement. I can see why only 9 pilots are certified to land here!
great work
Thank you
Hi. May I ask that did u use the auto-throttle in this approach or it is absolutely manual control of the throttle?
I always use manual controls including manual throttles for my videos. Its the only way to get better.
Even current FAA reports show that pilots are becoming too attached to autopilot and automation, so they keep loosing their skills.
+GVad The Pilot (FSX404) wow! This is fastest reply I ever get from TH-cam. Thanks so much! Have been subscribing ur channel for years.

+GVad The Pilot (FSX404) thank you so much! It really helps.
Actually can you do a tutorial on JFK 13L? Thanks!
I designed the approach !
Stein-Erik Sandvik i am a pilot ! I hate you....
why dont you fly with gps to the runway?
Hi FSX404,
I've been watching your channel for quite a long time already and really enjoyed it. I've watched every one of your videos and I thought I really want some more videos of yours... So can you please add an extra video to this "Flying in World Airports tutorials" series that teaches me how to do an ILS Approach to JFK RW 4L? Thanks a lot FSX404 expect more videos of yours!
I got married and missed so many comments 😓. I wish I had more time to make more approaches.
Not that much, I believe it was 131, 000 lbs, final approach was to be done at 130 kts, so 135 was OK.
great!!!!
I have no idea.
Nice!! Gonna try it soon!! Although mine is fsx
Whose scenery and for which FS?
