    That was amazing! That final section before the runway looked so intense, you looked fast and had to dodge that mountain on the right, and you executed that final turn to the runway and touchdown masterfully! You might not have the rating, but you sure as hell can do it!

    Ive tried that approach for "fun" in both the Fenix and the PMDG 737, both at night and talk about a scary approach. And if I remember correctly that scenery is from Aerosoft. I recall that when taxing to and from the gate it seemed like the taxiway was very narrow with both wingtips either over or hitting fences. Either way, its a really challenging airport to fly in and out of and you get a sense of accomplishment when you can do it right.

    • @Quotenwagnerianer
      @Quotenwagnerianer ปีที่แล้ว +3

      At night? The approach is alread difficult enough under realistic conditions. Why make it even harder by doing it under conditions that no one experiences in the real world? Paro is closed after sunset.

    • @satiremuch2643
      @satiremuch2643 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@A330Driver Thank you for your answer! The reason for my question is that, since it seems an extremely important matter to know what the correct velocity of the plane relative to the ground and speed relative to the wind (if I'm not confusing the terms) ? I'm assuming that the direction, pressure and speed of the wind all affect the measurement of the planes speed? (if the plane relies on all the dynamic variables given by the air it will result in different readings from day to day (in the same area) and it wont be exact measurements? or am I wrong?) What typs of referens are the instruments using in order to establish correct measurements? Do the instruments measure the planes position relative to the ground (by use of radar? or gps, if so how was this done in the days before gps? ) or to the air (by use of small turbines ex?)?

    • @Brandon01110
      @Brandon01110 ปีที่แล้ว

      my issue has been the steep descent after the ridge. I'm gonna practice more but I have been going over the ridge at 13,000ft then descending at around 2,500ft/min to get at 8,500 for the last couple turns. The one hes doing seems to have a shallower descent to control speed and passenger comfort maybe. good question.

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The descend is too steep, you won't get it down. In fact when I started creating this video I started with that procedure as well, but it was just not possible to do the descend into the valley before the final turn. Thus the double circling had to be done. Checking some real life videos from the approach that was what they did as well in the Airbusses.

    Thank you for making this video, I was hoping you would. I was wondering if you could put in your video description the approach you selected in the FMC. I have been using an approach that I start at PR777 and it winds you through the mountains then you pass over a ridge around 13,800. After that its a very steep descent to 7,400ft! Not sure if this is a real approach or not but its one that you can select in the FMC for rwy 15.

    • @A330Driver

      Hi, it's the RNAV Y 33. The RNAV Z 15 just doesn't work in airliners, the descend after the ridge is too steep. In preparation for the video I reviewed a lot of real life landings there and they all seemed to have follow the RNAV Y 33 and then circled like I did.

On the overhead panel the Hyd pump B elect 1 "overheat" light is on. I don't understand what I'm supposed to do about this. I was only able to restart the engine by opening the crossfeed. I ditn understand why this failure keeps happening? What is the proper procedure?
    I'm unable to restart the right generator. On the overhead panel beside standby power under 2 the "drive" light is on. Hmm. QRH under 6.12, to start the APU and then switching the APU GEN on the affected side to ON. OK good I already did that. The Hyd pump A elec 2 "overheat" light just came on. My fuel temp is still rising. We shall see if I make it. 😄

      Might be a problem with your hardware. Do you have a mixture axis assigned somewhere? Maybe you accidentally cut the mixture internally.
      Also try to delete the panelstate you're using and start with a fresh one. Corrupted panelstates are a common issue for misbehaviour in the 737.

      @@A330Driver I'll recheck all of my bindings. To conclude the story I didn't make it. About 40-60 minutes after the initial engine two failure, both engines engines failed simultaneously just like the other times. I was unable to restart them although I still had positive numbers in N1 and N2. When it became apparent I was going to crash I restarted the panel saved state so that I could at least continue on to practice landing. I hate to be defeated though. I was, so close to reaching an airport off the coast of California.

    Title a bit of TH-cam hyperbole? ;)
    It is definately the most challenging approach on earth that is flown by commercial jetliners, that is true. But it is not the most challenging approach in total. ;)
    There are mointain strips in Papua NewGuinea, where you might as well rather parachute in than ever try to land there.

      As this channel is primarily about airliners I think the title is appropriate ;-)
