No doubt there are many videos on you tube about reading charts and flight procedures, but this published by Mr. fsx404 is the most comprehensive, concise and honest I've found. No doubt he knows what he is saying. Thank you very much for your input.
@FlyUPS767 ATC's will usually vector you on to final same as MSFS. Plates are used for all the info about the approach, or comm failure. When you file your flight plan, there is a code you put in after your plane type (example C182/U), that U denotes the NAV equipment on the plane, so the ATC always knows what he/she can give you. Do what the ATC tells you, not what your FMC tells you, unless its a safety issue or you're are to break a rule, in that case inform the ATC you can't comply.
@FlyUPS767 ATC has priorities, safety, separation etc etc. ATC doesn't care whether you do it with VNAV, AP or manually. You descend when the ATC tells you to, not when you programmed it into you VNAV. They know when you need to start a descent, so they wont mess you up. If it is not when you expected, then it is up to the pilot to adjust, unless it is a safety issue. You can always make a request from the ATC, and they might work with you but not always, especially in congested areas.
@TheAirCrashVidoes Lukla is pretty straight forward, basically a visual approach with a slopped runway and no way out once committed to the landing. I'll do it after I get a chance to talk to one of the pilots that has actually flown in there. I'm not sure where you can find the scenery, I think I googled it a long time ago.
@FlyUPS767 BTW, in case of Tonconitn, in real life the ATC will vector you to the first point, MELVO I thin, and then just clear you for the approach. So you will have to do the whole thing. In MSFS, the ATC is very generic and always gives you pretty much the same vectoring for every approach, which is not true in real life.
Unless the approach plate specifies a heading, the numbers you call headings are actually magnetic tracks or a magnetic course. The final approach fix which is depicted by the Maltese cross is an important milestone, but the IAP (Instrument Approach Procedure) doesn't dictate when to extend the landing gear; it shows the parameters and how that's achieved is another matter. That's a function of the airplane flight manual, airline operation specs and pilot judgement. In this case I'd say it should be extended NLT the final fix. Great video none the less.
The white marks are just aim marks (touchdown marks), doesn't mean that past there you have to go around. Depending on what plane you do have to about the highlighted yellow area I made, but a pilot in command has to determine what his/her plane is capable of. I've seen a video of a 737 touching down past the halfway point right here on youtube, so there is no "set" limit. Its up to the pilot.
I´m very, very happy with this videos. They are incredible (please, excuse, i don´t speak inglish). I wold to know ¿Do you have any video about Lukla or Kai-Tak like de otters series? (like toncontín, St. Maarten etc) Thanks a lot. I´m Henry Arias from Cali, Colombia..
Yes I have all the 10 extreme airports just like this with the exception of Lukla. Go to my Channel into the 10 Most Extreme Airports Series" Playlist they are all there. Most have two episodes (one briefing and one flight), Madeira has 3 episodes because it is longer and St. Barths has one episode.
ABSOLUTELY CORRECT, SHOULDN'T But I like posting imperfect (MSFS) landings (I think most of mine are) because we learn more from those than the perfect ones. Thanks for the comment.
Hi..! Mr. FSX404. How are you? Thanks for your answer. In fact, I saw your channel yestarday nigth. There are many videos with two episodes. They are very easy to understand. I downloaded them. But, ¿Are you make a Lukla episode? It is necesary to complete de colection... Are you a pilot? I,m a Radiological Tecnician, but I love aviation. So, I´m also, a Ultraligth pilot. I live in Cali Coolombia, near the Cali V.O.R. (115.5) and the airfield is near. Thanks for the Toncontín Charts link.
I was watching the movie about Toncontin Airport and they said that if you wouldn't land at or before this white marks placed between first and second runway's entry you should proceed missed approach pocedure. According to your video, you should move green-yellow-red mark and 1,2,3,4,5 markers left at the begining of runway.
Hi Genc I think u have done this tutorial with FS9 but one thing is really very strange and that is weather and climate effects. I am amazed to see the rain drops sliding at wind acreen of cockpit, so can u kindly guide me aout that what which software u have been using? Once again u r evergreen tutor. Kindly answer my question.
@playasonline Yes, I fly for real, since 1995, actually I had a little break in between, but I have been actively flying for 6 - 7 years, give or take a few months.
@jonthedoors Thanks man, it's been a busy summer, I've put up over 60 hours in less than 3 months flying friends around. I've even gotten into multi-engine planes. Hopefully I'll be instructing within a few months. When you come to LA, bring your logbook ;)
Thanks for your reply. I just only said what locals said in the interview that pilots SHOULDN'T - didn't say musn't. Still think that orange/yellow area should be placed shortly after touchdown marker. Brilliant work mate! M
@playasonline I'll start doing my CFI/CFII/MEI training in the early October so I hope to have all 3 by early next year. Good luck, and keep an eye on those airline pilots, most of them forget how to fly VFR, LOL
Cool man I live in Ohio and I'm enrolling into 2 year CFI program next summer. I also have a few delta pilot friends who I go flying with often. Do you instruct?
I haven't made it yet. I'm waiting to get a hold of a pilot who landed at Lukla numerous times. You can always check out my twitter for updates and stuff I'm working on.
Hi Genc, Always superb man. By the way how do you write on the approach plates, i mean while you are making approach plate briefings during that you are writing and animating different guidances so what software do you use to do so?
Lukla is not done yet. I will finish it in time, waiting on a few things before I make it, including talking to a pilot that has landed at Lukla. Lukla is VFR anyway, all you really have to do is make sure you are at 9000 feet on final approach, so you are not descending as you are flying to it, basically you are coming in level, then just touch down at the beginning of the runway Thanks
What do you mean only for PMDG airplanes? Are you allowed to do this approach with any aircraft? Can you fly the other published approaches into Toncontin with any aircraft?
@janujan995 You can fly this approach in any plane as long as you have the approach loaded into your FMC. I only have the file that adds this approach to PMDG FMC's. Maybe someone else made one for iFly, Captain Sim, etc. Don't ask, I'm not a computer expert, just use google.
You are cool, LOL. Actually, I've learned from people commenting on my videos as much as you guys have learned from me, aviation is so broad, that one never stops learning.
Haha you're right man. One of those pilots I fly with was a air force flight instructor so imagine; he is a little rough on those controls. First we flew I almost made a mess in his plane. Lmao.

Excellent explanation. No stammering around. Clear and direct instructions. Great job.
Great Vid! Really like that extensive approach briefing. Keep it up!

I found this videos as a good tool to learn .I like the way you explain the lessons.Good pilot and teacher,THANKS FOR POSTING.
i keep saying to myself why isn't he a real life CFI (cetrified flight instructor)
What an excellent precise description; the best I have come across. Thank you.
I hope you're going to do more of these tutorials when Microsoft flight simulator 2020 comes out! Great video!!

It's professionally explained. Thank you !
Thanks for that great tutorial. Especially enjoyed the part about the visual turn. :D

You have a awsome channel, good work and keep it up!!!
Innsbruck also has a crazy 180 degree turn at the end as well
@UltraJoe01
Thanks for the nice comment, I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

Awesome! Keep these up!!
For the file, google AIRAC 1303
First 2 digit refer to the year, the latter 2 refer to month
So 1303 mean it is effective in March 2013
nice preflight breafing ^^
I'll try this approach in the NGX

does that mean that flying to and from Lukla is easier than others?
Hey do you still have the sid/star file for the PMDG 737? Can you send it to me?
whats the take off in the opposite direction from landing?
What do you mean only for PMDG airplanes? Are you allowed to do this approach with any aircraft? Can you fly the other published approaches into Toncontin with any aircraft?
Hi FSX404, where can i download the RNAV package for this appr for the PMDG series? Thanks

Nice how you split the videos.
nice tutorial thanks for making these
So, how do I get the file with the approach?
Where can I get the file?
If you keep updating your AIRAC from Navigraph it should be in there eventually.
man where did you get the toncontin senery?
Latin VFR, google that company.
Haha you're right man. One of those pilots I fly with was a air force flight instructor so imagine; he is a little rough on those controls. First we flew I almost made a mess in his plane. Lmao.
No, Lukla is by far the hardest. My Lukla video will be up in a few hours, you'll see.
Hey man do you flight in real life?
Wow, I got an response! I feel soo cool :P Thank you ;-)
Where you loking in the moon
Thank you sir B-)
If it,s not finished yet(lukla),that means still #1.
@wongchungui88
Send me your email in a message and I'll send you the file.
There are 12 guys they does't like somebody who is better than themself
