      Can't wait to use it when it's arrived, number one reason that I'm switching to macbook is consistent performance over 5 or more years which is something you don't get on high end pc, I mean sure, they can be 10 time faster at first but become hard to use after 3 years.

    • @MrSoundChaos
      @MrSoundChaos 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @PillsCureMyDepression Thats bad advice, definitely should watch this video. Its simply a bad deal to get the M3 if you are going to up it to 16gb, as its the exact same price (maybe $100 more if sales arent good) as getting the M3 Pro with 18gb. The m3 pro gives you huge performance updates on CPU/GPU, additional ports, and much faster storage. Honestly, for most people the 8gb option is just fine though and you can get that machine on sale for $400-700 less than the 16gb upgrade. Its just infuriating that apple doesnt default to 16gb and charges so much to upgrade. I got my m3 mbp base model for $1100, but the best deal i could get on a refurb/sale price 16gb was $1550. Even then, way better to spring for that $1650 m3 pro model refurb

    With the advancement of semiconductor processes, I think it is more appropriate to buy the basic model. For most people, it should be able to provide you with sufficient performance and better battery life (which I think is more important for most). The only drawback is the number of screens.

    Hi! Do you think that the m3 MacBook pro base model would be great for a graphic design student? I was thinking about getting the m2 MacBook air, but if I spend a little bit more I’m getting a better and a bigger screen( and better performance?)I would be using mostly photoshop for digital illustrations, and lightroom for some photo editing. How much would it last for in your opinion, because I’m looking for a laptop which can be used for at least 3-5 years.

    • @eltechnica
      @eltechnica 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      well there's a 10 min video above that would help you make an informed decision. He just said that you can only connect 1 ext monitor w m3 vs m3 pro. But since you seem to have trouble making your own decisions, I'd get an m3 pro base model as the RAM is 18gb and use the student discount. Finance if you have an apple card with a $10k limit. Since that $2000 or $1800 will be a balance, that you cannot pay off in bigger chunks on your own time, than the monthly financing dollar amount that you sign up for. In the future, I'd have a little more confidence in your own decisions. You can probably get away with an apple certified refurb m2 air or m2 pro for $1600. But air's get throttled in intensive preformance tests. M3 Pro chip has 2 fans vs 1 fan in all other models and a higher base RAM, you have to have 16GB RAM minimum unless you're a light user.

    This is one of my favorite reviews comparing real world performance with the 8GB vs 18GB of ram. I"m glad the 8GB did so well. I just traded in a M1 MBA with 8GB, and the previous base MBA before that had 4GB, so thought the M3 should have 16GB. I settled on the M3 Pro with 18GB. At least it was on sale as a lot of people are opting for the M2 with more RAM. The M3 Pro is super nice screen, sound, ports, and should still be capable with more intensive programs if I get back into that kind of workflow, and really like the 14 inch footprint and size. If I didn't have so much screen time the 13 inch Air was really convenient and light.

    the MacBook M3 Air 16GB/512GB (€1,760) or the MacBook M3 Pro 8GB/512GB (€1,850). I would mainly use it to edit photos on Photoshop. The better screen quality and the SD card slot on the PRO model is a big advantage for me. Or am I better off with the Air M3 16GB/512GB because it has more RAM? I use a Nikon D750 and edit an average of 500 photos per year. So not a heavy user I guess? My current laptop is an Acer nitro 5 (8GB/512GB) from 2019

I stream, a lot of music, watch a lot of TH-cam, a lot of FaceTime as well, that's about it, I wouldn't classify myself as a heavy user. I'm kind of stuck at the moment. Regarding variance, It’s usually about a 2-3GB difference. IT COULD be related to the fact that I’m always in high power mode, and the 14-inch laptops didn’t have access to that feature till the M3. In general, I feel a MacBook’s RAM management is dookie. I can say that my swap usage has decreased significantly. I would find gigabytes of swab being used when I still had several gigabytes of RAM available on my M1, like it was just caching everything. On the M3 Max, it seems to opt for the unified RAM over the swapping to the SSD. Which… it didn't matter to me. I didn't care about swap. "MacBook that is good for the next 10 years." - while some computers _can_ work for decades - I have a 20 year old original MacBook Pro and it still boots fine - the reality is the software will become obsolete. Which is why I don't use my old MacBook Pro. You should expect only 6 _useful_ years for a laptop. And recommend getting AppleCare for laptops.
      If you are not a video maker and only need the base capacities (RAM, SSD) then go for the MacBook Air. A 15" MBA with M3 (coming in March?) will be less expensive than the smaller 14" MBP w/ M3 Pro chip. _But by the time you add two, and definitely if you add three, upgrades_ to the 15" MBA you'll be paying as much as the base 14" MBP with M3 Pro chip. *The discount price for the 14" MBP M3 Pro base model is $1849, which is likely the best deal for something useful for 6 or 7 years.*

  • @kiwibom1

    I just can't believe that having 8GB base on a Pro laptop for that price, is just ok for you. It's not about "it's enough I don't need more", but for the price you pay 16 gb should really be the minimum. On a Macbook air its fine but no on a laptop marketed to Professionals. It's not like adding another 8GB is going to cost Apple 220 €.
    The base model in my country (in the EU) costs 1945€, almost 2K and for that I only get 8GB ? wtf
    And if I want 16GB, add 220€ to the base price which is 2165€. For about the same price I can get double the ram on a Dell XPS 13. We all know that the apple upgrade tax is way too high really. It just sucks that they do that.

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The problem with your argument is not that 8GB is wrong at the price; it's that if it started with 16GB, Apple would likely push prices up by $200. That is where your argument fails. Apple offers an 8GB to get the price lower for increased demand-side sales. If you want 16GB, buy that one. You will find that MS, Samsung, Dell, HP, etc., all have the same 8GB base models. Could you tell me why you jumped on Apple yet give these companies a pass? As for price, Apple is ultra-premium and has never been cheap, so there is nothing new; "insanity is repeating the same" (sic) every year despite knowing this fact.

    • @kiwibom1

      @@andyH_Englandyes apple would do that but 8 more GB doesn't cost 200€, if we were in 2005, maybe but not in 2023. 8GB would cost 40€ max and even that is stretching it.
      Since Apple doesn't want to cut on their margins (like every company) they would just put higher prices (Apple is on another level in that regards).
      As to why i give the other brands a pass, its very simple. Their 8GB laptops aren't 2000€,
      the most expensive 8GB version i saw from a quick search is 1100€.
      From what i read of your post you seem to think i'm an Apple hater, well i'm not lol. Everything would be kosher if base M3 came with 12gb and M3 Pro was 24gb. Even with their laughable stock storage of 512gb, at least the ram is in a comfortable place for their price points.
    M3 shines in battery life. It does almost make me wana upgrade the ram to 16 and enjoy the 4hrs extra life (and more importantly, battery health longevity). M3 is about as powerful as the M1 Pro, which is a great machine. But 8gb ram uses way too much swap, way too often, and it’s brand new.. not even a few years old. So for 5+yrs, it just doesn’t seem like a wise investment.. let alone a decade. I mean, this is the same ram spec we had 3 years ago! So crazy. The base cpu/gpu should be fine for a decade, but the ram will just cause too many issues down the line.. tons of swap, and it’ll compound as programs and nonsense become more taxing.

      They mean you can easily make 8GB go a lot further in daily tasks. I have a base MB Pro 13 M1 and use 13GB plus with no issues, even though it only has 8GB of physical RAM. Apple uses AI/ML to manage RAM aided by compression and swap.

      @@BrandonButch Yes I have and I didn’t even mention performance in my comment. You have to understand the reason why so many people have coined “The Apple RAM Scam”. In this day and age, at Apple’s price point, it is downright unethical to make the base model 8gb.
      Although I doubt that you will ever criticize Apple fairly because doing so would forfeit all the review units or Apple money coming your way.
      It’s obvious that the 8gb RAM base model solely exists just to make the consumer consider upgrading to a Pro Macbook instead, a proven business tactic of Apple as seen with their iPhone lineups.
      The logic: This year’s iphone 15 has last year’s chip, guess id just spend a little extra to get an iphone 15 pro
      The same logic in macbooks: if i get this 8gb ram macbook m3, thatd just be the price of an m3 pro macbook. Id rather just spend a little extra to get that instead

      @@hoshikuzuvenus You are basing that on your own selfish take, whereas many of us are quite happy paying £400+ less for an 8GB model (during deals). If you cannot understand that, you must rethink your thinking. And for the record, 95% of all Windows ultrabooks in 2023 start with a base of 8GB, but you never whine and troll them because most Windows laptop reviews are sponsored, and the YT creator gets top-spec versions. You seem very biased, unfair and self-serving. There are 16GB versions if you need it, and if the price to upgrade is too much, buy something else. And...stop flexing on Apple.

      @@andyH_England What a horrible argument.
      I recommend you double check how ridiculous Apple charges for extra RAM and how expensive the base model 8GB RAM Macbooks are.
      Honestly, it doesn't even end it the 8GB RAM SCAM, they do so much more horrible business practices that are anti-consumer.
      And yes, 8GB ultrabooks do exist but their prices arent steep, thus making it justified. Not to mention the fact that these have upgradable hardware.
      It's so confusing to see people defend Apple. At the end of the day, we consumers should push for our rights and not for us to be exploited by horrible companies like Apple. And I say this as an owner of multiple apple products throughout the years

      @@hoshikuzuvenus"What a horrible argument." - on the contrary, it was a good point. YOU are projecting your own desires onto other people's buying decisions. Many people in this world will use laptops simply as business tools, and that is what the 8GB base M3 MBP is for.

    For the money you would spend on these overpriced products you can get a very nice Windows laptop with good storage and memory. The messed up thing with Apple is that you cannot upgrade the memory or the SSD which is ridiculous! So if you buy wrong in the beginning you are stuck. Most people do not upgrade their storage and RAM; they buy what they need. It is a niche YT bubble that bangs on and on about this despite the world moving on. Why do you complain that ARM PCs have soldered RAM and storage yet never complain that ARM smartphones and tablets are also soldered?
