Great review and I appreciate the honesty. I have a couple of their 360 cameras and love them, and wanted an action/vlogging camera to take on my shoots. It sounds like I will wait for the next version and HOPEFULLY they will see the outcry about the focal length and fix that. Other than that it sounds like this model would be perfect for what I need.

I totally agree with you! They should just stop branding it as a vlog camera, don't you agree? I mean I do praise it for its qualities but... I think they wanted to reach too many people.

This camera is my favourite... The clarity feature helped to shoot great PICS from a distance in a REAL forest situation. The bonfire video has come out great because of PUREVIDEO feature. I just love this camera. Regarding the focus issue.. ive already got a diopter (lens) from vivitar. Ive a gopro as well but kept it aside in case of an emergency like situation. I love this camera and it deserves to be loved IMHO.

I think Insta360's advertising could be better. I was able to find an adaper and 4 close up filters for about $23, US on Amazon. I am using primarily on my motorcycle so I really never want anything that close to me. I just figure you should have to option if needed. These filters should work well enough for me but I am not an expert. I appreciate the video as it made me aware of the issue. It's likely the adapter and filters weren't available onlline at the time this video was shot. Things move quickly today.
Hey! Yeah, for sure the ads should have been clearer. And yes at the time the video was shot, in the beginning the camera came out, there were not too many options for adapters available. Anyway it’s not the most ideal thing but if all you do is adventure films on the bike in which you don’t really need to get close to the camera to speak to somebody then it is a very good camera!
I definitely fell in love with the Insta360 Ace Pro. Of course I'll use it while riding my EUC, but also when I'm vlogging at 50cm, taking advantage of the blur to hide my blemishes. But most of all I will use it in the evening in Rome during walks with my wife and friends, because in low light conditions this cam is superb!

I have been disappointed by gopro cameras in recent years, I haven't even tried the latest versions. I've been using Insta x3 for some time and it's quite ok, I might try Ace Pro too, thanks
The X3 and X4 are amazing! They do everything and they are fun. The only downside is the file size and file management
Because it's an f2.6 prime lens. With that aperture, the minimum distance to focus on infinity is - seemingly - about 60 cm. Why? Because like others said, this is an action camera to image everything BUT your pretty mug. If that hurts your ego, simply put the camera on a selfie stick or put a 4+ diopter lens on the ace pro lens. Half of what's behind you will be blurred but at least the world will not be bereft of your magnificent visagé!
bro the problem is that the company says 40cm and in reality is 60! And also if you make a camera that is supposed to be meant for vloggers with big egos and magnificent visages then do it properly. i don't have that issue 40cm is perfect for me down scale the sharpness to average that's how I do it and the ace pro works well the downside is storage on my phone and my laptop doesn't hold up to good with the insta360 studio all and all the ace pro is the best action camera that i ever had and the manual settings for photos works well enough I work in 1920x1080 by 30fp/60fp and the pure video mode works great for me ps work with the sweetspot of the lens
my only problem is phone storage and laptop storage and I don't need 2,7k 4k 6k 8k the files get too big to work with for me form all the action cams I had this is the best your camera needs are just different
I do e bike rides metal detecting and review gear and it works just fine for me especially since I started over with my channel and use the ace pro only for it for my needs just fine
That’s interesting! Idk if it is my model or something. Most reviews (not sponsors obv) say the same thing, that it does not focus at 40 but goes over.
just yesterday I was testing viewpoints for metal detecting and setup the ace pro on a little tripod selfie stick well within 40cm give or take 1920x1080 30fp meter mode matrix sharpness average and from what I could see once I watched it on my phone was cristal clear and did test on my bureau small letters become out of focus yes but the bigger letters on my t-shirt where clear my face also and all give or take within 40cm and I did noticed when I film myself I tend to have it a little further away from me don't like it to close
but keep in mind it's still an action camera but an advanced one perfect no but what it does it does it good
so what it does is that to your needs yes or no ???? that's the question right and knowing how to work around things and making good use of all the setting possibility's are key but never less from a action camera point of view it's darn good perfect sure not I wish and it's the need of person that buy's it for me it's more than enough
ps if you want full on super blue-ray clarity straight up in to your face up close and personal around this date there are options for the ace pro but probably you need something else and than it's not a action camera you need just wait we live in interesting times maybe something comes out soon that'll blow our minds insta360 is definitely on the right path

I didn't see much difference in the examples with the straight arm vs. the bent arm while doing selfies. Also, while on the tape measure, the phone looked like it was in focus the whole time.... so was that shot with the Ace Pro? The image streamed to the phone may not have been clear, but the phone was in focus.
Mate it is just not there, the camera is good, and I have shot some things that actually look pretty decent for an action cam, but sometimes it is just annoying to see stuff behind you that are in focus. And don't mean only for vlogging. Think about when you want to shoot a close up of something like a flower or a leaf ora some other things and you cannot get close, or you have to mount the diopter and unmount it. With this particular camera the company should have just came out and be direct and straight about it.
Thanks for the reply. I wag h your video on my phone (like many people probably have), so that might have something to do with not seeing the subtleties in the quality. I found your video while researching for replacements for my GoPros, which just randomly become bricks. I mainly do action shots driving 4x4s, quads, dirtbikes, mountain/BMX, etc.... with some vlog type talking here and there. In your opinion, would you recommend this camera?

Listen if you know that you almost never will need to go close to a subject then yes, it is pretty good, quality wise is awesome, you can even rig it up properly to have better protection for quads and dirtbikes. Don't buy it if you plan to talk to the camera a lot. But that's just my 2 cents on it.

optical physics dictates that you have to have a focal length and depth of field. It is primarily an action camera. If the focal length were to be reduced, the functionality of a (primarily) action camera would be compromised.
If you are going to vlog with it, accept that there are constraints.
There are now replacement lens covers on amazon for $12, the lens cover screws off and the new one screws on. Non-problem.
And I totally agree with you! Problem is that they state the minimum focusing distance is 40 centimeters and in reality it kind of starts focusing at 55-60 centimeters. The problem is not the camera is the advertisement that’s been done so far. And yes this action camera does not do it for me.
According to the internet Minimum Focus Distance of Ace is 1.9ft (0.6m) and Ace pro is 1.3ft (0.4m)

You confused the minimum focus values. The minimum focus distance of the Ace Pro is 1.3ft (40 cm). The Ace has 1.9ft (60 cm)!
No, I know, but in reality, idk if it is just my model but this one focuses at 60cm. And honestly if you watch other non sponsored videos you'll have people complaining about the same issue.
