About the best review for this camera I have seen on YT. Some key points, like not able to see the recording when the battery on the base is depleted, the limitation on the horizon lock angle in standard mode, etc., were not mentioned elsewhere. Really appreciate your work! Subscribed!😂
Thank you so much for your insight and feedback! Too many things to talk about with this camera, some of them are important things that users or potential buyers need to know for sure!
Thanks for a great review. Years ago I bought a GoPro Hero 5 that I never fell in love with, since it didn’t fit well in my pants pockets and I ended carrying so much extra equipment it became a hassle and seldom used. I bought the insta360 go2 a few years back and I must say it was amazing. Especially this summer I used it together with my 10 year old granddaughter swimming and paddling on SUPboards- She learned to hold it and film underwater. Of course I was glad she didn´t drop it, only the tiny camera to hold on to. 2 weeks ago I bought the insta360 go3s and am updating on accessories. I am glad for 4k naturally and love the screen as compared to the go2 version, never really trusting it if it was filming or not. EASE OF USE should be the main reason to buy an insta360 go3s in my point of view. Using an action camera ”in action” gives very seldom time to ”compose” . And here is where the insta360 go3 excells. PRESS THE BUTTON and ACTION ! 🙏😍😍😍
Thank you for sharing your opinion and experience with this and past cameras! yeah, I recently took it out for kayaking and it was so fun, I'm glad I didn't drop it by accident lol
@@OttoJulian_ Hey mate, thanks for the cool review! Did you try how long the battery will last in 2.7k as well? I mean with minimum settings to still get a good picture, but that the battery will last as long as possible.
Finally couldn't resist the temptation and upgraded to GO3S from GO3. Here are some initial findings: 1.The neck pedant is much better now, the wedge is gone. The cap mount is now magnetic so I can tilt the while firmly fixed on the neck pedant. This reduce the need for freeframe video. 2.The side of the detachable camera body now has a grooved design so it is less slippery to hold on to. 3.The video quality of the 4K/30 is great so far. This is a fun b roll camera. I won't use it for any serious photo shooting so it does the job. 4.The Freeframe mode is limited to 4:3 instead of 16:9. Something you must be aware of if upgrade. 5. The camera UI seems snappier overall. The GO3 wasn't slow by any means. 6.The sticky stand is now improved. Slimmed down and has a cover flap that cannot be removed so you won't lose it. I am not sure how secure it is comparing to the old one with the detachable (losable) sticker cover.
Great review. I have GO 3 and just bought GO 3S because of the additional features: 4K, Tilt Fix, Gesture Control, and Interval Video. This is a great everyday video camera for family and casual vloggers.
I was getting tired of all the sponsored reviews so I'm really glad I subbed to you awhie ago. Everyone would just simply say they didn't experience something instead of actually testing it
Oh I know, one of the reasons I started making YT videos was because people don't test things out and they just read the specifications written on the box, or they just say everything that the manufacturer said about the product.
That Quick Reader is too expensive. Thank you for this realistic review. I received mine yesterday (June 20) and am looking forward to giving it a test drive. I never use vertical so I'm hoping I can disable that orientation - I want horizontal even if the camera is vertical.
I sent a request to insta360 about it, they need to make it an option if people want to use the quick switch or not, because right now if you want horizontal you need to use the camera in the horizontal position if you are using regular video mode. FreeFrame can achieve this but I think it's bugged
@@OttoJulian_ when recording in free frame, is it still the highest resolution the camera offers? why wouldnt we always record in free frame? this way we can simply choose the aspect ration in the app before we choose to download the video to our phone or computer.
Good review, you could do a comparison of the FreeFrame in the GO 3 vs GO 3S to see how much is lost when changing from 16.9 to 9.16 in the app. It would be of great help for users since it is not talked about much and it is a big change in the 3S version, a shame because the FreeFrame was what I liked most about the GO 3. Thanks!!
Good idea. Freeframe was my favorite mode too with the Go 3 because it behaved better and had a higher bitrate, even with the lower resolution it was my go to mode 80% of the time
@@OttoJulian_ Yes, it would be a great help, thank you! I'm not an expert but I noticed in some videos that when recording horizontally and goes to vertical in the app a lot of information was lost (like if it was a zoom to the horizontal video) but when its changed to 1.1, it seems that in the image you see more information, I mean that is not lost as much as to pass it vertically (9.16). So maybe that can be improved with an update or maybe I'm wrong but anyway. It would have been perfect with the usual FreeFrame, thanks for replying! I'll keep an eye out for the video
It'd be nice if there was a plugin for and editor like DaVinci Resolve so you didn't have to use the Insta360 software to edit freeframe. That way you don't have to re-encode / compress the video several times to then port to an editor. Losing footage quality per generation is something every editor tries to avoid.
The option of choosing between horizontal and vertical when shooting sounds like a good thing but if you're a user of the previous versions of this camera being able to choose the orientation after recording is an even bigger perk which is lost with this camera. choosing after you record means you can use the same video for different uses (TH-cam long form and shorts, IG reels and TH-cam etc).
Could you please confirm if it is possible to transfer videos directly from the insta 360 Go 3S to a laptop via a USB cable? I was told only via wifi or insta quick reader which i do not want
Thank you for this good test. I actually wanted to buy the Insta360 Go 3S because of its small size. I knew I would have to compromise on video quality because of the small sensor, but I really don't think the video quality is good enough. That's why I'm going to keep my DJI Osmo Action 4. Many greetings from Germany.
The Go3 didn't have the locked landscape mode depending on camera position and I didn't about the difference until after I finished my first trail ride with the Go 3s and my whole ride was in portrait lol. Next time I'll know.
The most important question answered- how to get video off the unit's fixed storage. Excellent review. $45 (actually $62 with shipping) isn't ideal for a separate unit to download content. The extra $18 for shipping it is worse for an item that maybe weighs a few grams. (Unfortunately they've hidden this product from Amazon somehow. Their marketing wiz's are clearly not ones to be trifled with.) But I still think it a worthy trade for the small form and weather-proofing of the camera itself and far superior to the alternative of a wifi and an app conneciton.
You are welcome! I just double checked on Amazon and you are right! I don't see it there (The quick reader)! I hope this is about low inventory or something like that rather than a marketing strategy. Oh and thanks for sharing your thoughts
Realistically, it’s a device accessory that should actually be included with the original camera for convenience, instead they are erroneously charging $45… 🤔
I really dont like that the orientation is locked... The biggest selling point for me before was that the camera could be placed in any orientation, at any angle, and it would record with their perfect horizon lock... but now, this is very limiting... Sad to see... It would be nice to have the option to drop it down to 2.7k, to regain this feature... allowing for the better bit rate, and lens, but sitll having the feature of free frame and the classic "point and shoot" style.
I suppose the answer to the problem of the action pod running out of battery and not working is to use your phone with the insta360 app or using the Older GPS remote (not the new one with preview screen). That way you can change setting at least. And I guess with the app you can see the video preview too.
Hello Please tell me, it is very important for me... which camera should I choose insta 360 go 3s or ace pro??? I shoot vlogs... I am a truck driver... thank you very much
both are good for your needs, Ace Pro might be a better fit but if you want to stick the small camera anywhere or want something even more discreet, GO3s might the the choice.
I'm here at your video, for the reason the FreeFrame mode does not work as expected. I have a GO 3 that it works like it should. When the camera is out of the pod, no mater how you hold it the horizon is level. My new GO 3S does not do this, I can not find a setting that works to hold the horizon is level when the camera is out of the pod. If I'm holding the old GO 3 in my hand, in FreeFrame mode I can aim it at something an no mater how I hold the camera body it will be level. The GO 3S does not work that way. If I'm doing a pan shot around an object as my hand naturally twist the horizon will follow the twist of my hand and not stay level. If you have a way to fix this let me know. I can not afford edelkrone sliders etc. but I could fake the same shots and effects by just holding the GO 3 with the horizon always level no mater the direction of my hand or the body of the camera. The Insta360 GO 3S does not do this, I have no idea why it does not work the same as the GO 3 when this was basically a 4K upgrade
the horizon level is applied in post when you use the insta360 app, it's not done in camera. I can't remember right now but on the GO 3 the preview is different. The 360 horizon lock works fine for FreeFrame when you look at it on the phone
@@OttoJulian_ I tried it does not do it. It still rotates and follows the angle of the camera body, it does not work. The only way to get it to work is keep the camera in the camera body. but the defeats the entire purpose of having a small camera like the GO 3S
@@IMRROcom that's weird, I just did a quick test in front of the computer. On the app, you have a few options right? trim, aspect ratio, clarity plus, color plus, and after this last one, you select the FOV. Choose 360 degree horizon
@@OttoJulian_ I found that, but now it crops the image way in, So you give up a good section of the 4K for that crop in, I need to do a full side by side with my GO 3 and figure out what is id doing. IF I'm in free frame and it will crop the video fine. but make sure it shows that way in the app and on the pod so I can frame the video correctly. I'm sure that 2nd wire frame with the overlaying 16:9 is the key. keep the video framed in the combined box and it should work as expected. I'm used to the Slandered 3x3 wire frame box for 3rds.
Wait wait wait. So if you are shooting horizontally and you wanted a vertical shot of what you were shooting you do not get the extra vertical video estate? Go2 and go3 can be reframed later, so no reframing in the 3s?
reframing later can be done using FreeFrame, but I there are a few things that are not working correctly there, the preview that appears on the screen doesn't match the actual footage
Subsribed! For the fact of you´re listing all the gear above. I was also looking for a not sponsored review. Last but not least: your content is very ok.
Do I need to turn ON the app or action pod when using the Go3 camera or I can just use the Go3 camera itself ?? Is there a zoom in & out or pause features in GO3 ??? Thanks 🙏🏼
Do u still get 4k quality with just the camera and the action pod from the go 3? I’ve noticed you said you can use the camera with your go 3 pod to save money so are the settings the same or it changes once it’s set in the pod?
Excellent video as always! I got a 2017 Mac 27" 32gb ram 2GB video card runs FCPX. Should i skip the desktop and use the app with the Samsung 23 ultra? I experienced my mac exported to TH-cam as not as nice 4k videos
I can’t decide between this and the Ace Pro!!!! I might lean towards the pro for night / low light shots but this thing is cool, and the indoor and lower light footage looks great. I’d love to see a comparison between this and the ace pro!
I have the ace pro, and i love it. Especially the free mode. But the best part is the SD CARD I can video as much as i want and not worry about the memory. The ace pro have an exchangeable battery which i always carry 2 extra one just in case.
@@leegrace122790 nice! Is this nasty rumor about close focus true or do you find it ok for vlogging at arms length? I have long arms (lol) and I would get the multi mount selfie stick thing.
One thing with this I hope is that depth perception is accurate on videos. I absolutely hate fish eye and “too wide” of a view on playback. Looking for something to film myself doing some RC stuff in front of me and want something that’s tens feet away to appear just that ten feet away hope this has that mode to record with proper depth.
Yeah I don't like fisheye effects or super wide angles as they bring a lot of distortion. Most of the videos that you saw here were shot using "dewarp", which is a fairly narrow field of view that corrects distortion, although their new "mega" FOV seems to have a bit of a wider view with reduced distortion.
I have insta 360 go3 and dji pocket 3 and I use most the go3 than the pocket 3 from dji. Video quality is not only the key to create content, versatility and fun of use for me always win. Go3 is the best “action” cam ever made, wins easily the dji action and gopro. The form factor of this camera makes all other from the same category obsolete.
hello Rafael! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. The form factor of the Go 3/3S is indeed a game changer. I'm so glad that they made this one 4K with a clear bump on the bitrate
I have to say thank you, and not you for me. Your videos are amazing. Pixel peepers will always make ugly face when they hear “4k 30fps” “do not shoot 10bit” and etc. But you only know the magic of this camera when you touch one and start using it, and realize what you can do with this camera and no other camera do. O saw several TH-camrs that bought one returned due to the video quality is worse the the other, buy dji action or GoPro and returned back to go3 due the easy and fun of use. I’m sure I’ll upgrade to the go3s, but my main doubt is, buy the standalone camera and use on the old pod of the go3 or sell the go3 and buy the full new one? But here in Brazil is difficult to sell and buy these cameras .
the best mode on the go2 was "pro mode" you never needed to change the settings for vertical or horizointal video until post. why is it such a good feature now that if you record upright or horizontal it will record in that orientation>? am I missing something here?
I think you meant Freeframe. There is no PRO mode. The new one still has it, so you can go in post to change the orientación, although the quality doesn’t look quite right and I was told that it’s a bug. Choosing orientation based on the position is for regular video mode, and for some people it’s not a good thing and for others it is. Just depends on the user
@@OttoJulian_ i hear you. I guess im confused on whats the difference between regular mode and freeframe. Freeframe seems like it has the most flexibility in post editing. But now your telling me the quality is worse and it might be bugged. So im even more confused lol
I’m looking for a small camera to film inside malls, for mall walking videos. Would you say the go3s could do indoor light well or would the ace pro be better? It looks like this little camera does quite well in indoor light!? (unlike my go pro, which is great in sunshine and terrible in lower or artificial light).
Excellent open minded review with some great examples. I can't make up my mind between this, the X4, the FZ300, or simply actually using the dozen cameras I already have which rarely actually get used!
I have the 3s and if I had it to do over again I would just get the 3. The 2.7 video looks great, and the 4k videos are so huge, they are really difficult for me to work with and store.
plusieurs commentaires, @7:42 using the pod is not the only wait to charge the camera, you can now use the new quick reader to charge. @9:01 the low resolution playback is the secret sauce of insta360, they record 2 files, high and low video, this make it super fast to transfer wirelessly to the pod and most importantly the phone app. Have you notice you dont need to downlaod the footage to your phone to edit? gopro needs to downlaod high resolution video to your phone to start editing. @12:46 you can buy the camera alone and only use the new quick reader to charge, transfer and I believe you can control its settings with the app. Ok I tested with my go3, without the pod and it works.
hi Jerome, thanks for your comments. 1. When I said that there is no other way to charge the camera I was referring to the fact that the are no ports on it. The quick reader will charge the camera but is far from ideal. First you can't connect it to the outlet, you need a powerbank and depending on the model of powerbank it's not going to be safe to leave it there. Why would someone prefer to use this rather than the pod? 2. I agree with the low resolution thing, but when you edit straight from the camera without downloading I doubt that you are editing over a low resolution video. Editing from the phone just means the camera is being used as an external drive. Side by side a downloaded version looks the same as the one in the camera (Take a screenshot of both and zoom in, they will look the same) 3. Insta360 stated that it doesn't work, it's not a matter of charging. Brand new camera module will need a pod, most likely for initial activation and what not. Here is the insta360 warning: "Note: The GO 3S Standalone Camera must be paired with an Action Pod." Even if someone could get away and buy the quick reader to charge afterwards, I feel it's dumb to spend almost $300 just to get the small camera without the pod and all the accessories that come with the new camera.
@@OttoJulian_ interesting, yes they wrote in red "Note: The GO 3S Standalone Camera must be paired with an Action Pod." I just receive today my quick reader and you can control the settings of the camera but some niche features can only be controlled/changed with the pod like noise cancelling. Then again all of this is software and could be changed. go3s + quick reader is 285$ vs 400$ We are talking about 115$ difference! I do not use the pod. I only need it to charge it. Its big in my pocket. The go is always on my shirt. Yes that is true that charging with the quick reader is much more cumbersome and would be much bigger in my pocket with that power bank :P
Really? The answer for that question but it's simple: You can charge the battery on the go and keep recording without having to download/backup/transfer the content to another device.
Hi there and I'm a new subscriber! I stumbled upon your video and is very informative. I was wondering if you'll make a comparison video of this one with the DJI Osmo Pocket 3. Because I'm still on the fence what to buy. 😅
If it helps, I have an Osmo Pocket 1. In my opinion, I prefer the Go series since it's POV and more unique. You're straight into action. The Pocket is great but you need spend more time framing etc. I have kids and found with the pocket I was spending more time tracking them with camera etc. When I purchased the Go I attach camera to my cap press record and let it do it's thing. I use it so frequently the battery does run out though. Guess it depends more on your use case though. Do you want a camera to observe the action or be in the action?
45$ more to transfer footage because you are limited to what you buy is IMO a bit outrageous. I am looking to get this camera because of its form factor but idk about the colors/noise/dynamic range. Cant you just plug a OTG with a usb directly to the little pod? via USB-C ?
I know right? the only way is using FreeFrame which lets you select the orientation in post, although there seems to be a bug or something like that, the preview doesn't match the actual video, and the video looks cropped. I'm hoping that they fix that
13:00 I just got mine today and I tried recording short 4k 30fps videos (a few seconds to several minutes) and it heats up after two minutes. I'm not sure if I got a lemon although on the action pad itself there's a warning on heating when set on 4k. It also overheated when connected to the insta360 app.
The one I bought was reheating like crazy within 5 minutes so I've sent it for "repair". Hopefully it's a 1-off camera fault issue and not a problem with the rest of Insta Go 3S models
Great review! Based on your findings, I believe I am going to love this camera. As far as I know, shipping has not begun here in the US, so I'll have to wait a little longer for it. I'm thinking about possibly buying another standalone camera so I can always have one on the charger. Thx again!
Hi , I’m interested to buy quick release reader for my Insta360 Go3s, is there a link where can I buy it? Thx. I have a question too for the latest Go3s comes in Blk and wht, specifications are both the same right? Coz I want in wht. Thx again.
Overheating should not be an issue but again, this will all depend on external factors. Using these cameras outdoors should bring airflow into them but very high temp or direct sunlight might affect the results, but I've used it outdoors for kayaking for example with full sunlight at 1pm and I had no trouble with it
@@muffythang sure, that's why I like to compare these kind of cameras. By the way, I don't think I would consider the GO 3S as an action camera either, even if insta360 labeled it as such :)
After watching Jarod Undone’s talk about sponsored trips, I am trying to avoid watching videos with interest-related sponsorships. Thanks for the work you do.
@@OttoJulian_ It was fairly recent. Maybe two weeks ago or so. Was pretty big in the camera review/enthusiast communities I haunt. “Camera Reviews Need to Change”. Check it out if you haven’t. It’s good stuff.
I've been using the Go3 for over a year now and absolutely love it due to its compact size compared to other action cams. 👍 I mostly use it with the magnetic pendant because it’s so versatile and unobtrusive in action shots. Other accessories, like the pivot stand, are also very useful for static shots, such as selfies. 👌 However, the Easy Clip is the worst accessory; it’s not easy to use at all and is quite difficult to clip on. 👎 I’m considering upgrading to the Go3S, but I’m still hesitant. The new model offers only a higher resolution and a few minor upgrades. Given that I would have to trade in my current Go3 for only half of the purchase price of the new model, I’m unsure if it’s worth it. 🤔
I get what you are saying. It’s a tough decision. I usually like to trade my stuff if it makes sense to recover some of its value and have a worthy upgrade at the same time. But that’s my personal view and I don’t think everyone needs to do that. Take your time to think if 4K is worth it for you or not
Oh ok thanks for clarifying. I wanted to buy the standalone camera without the pod and just use it as a pov camera and monitor it with my phone. I guess Ill need the whole thing
Hi Otto, Which clip deed you used on your chast which the angel of the camera kan be adjusted? Is that the same clip that can be used on the hat? Is that clip also magnetic? I'm going to pay one if the angel of clip on chest can be adjustabel. I'm going to use it for biking do you advice to buy extra accessoires? If yes, which one do advice? Thank you in advance and looking forward to your reply Kind regads, Jousef
Lately, the go3 (not the s) got an "update". I'd rathervcall it a downgrade! The removed the option to swich off the inducator light. This is an important feature if you fo not want to draw attention while filming. I do not know if the go3s does have this option, to switch off the indicator light? Maybe Insta wants to try to force people to buy the s? Why else was this option removed?
Hi. It might be an unintended change, but sometimes they change the location of the settings. Double check inside the menus, it might still be there. Agreed this is a very basic function. Go3s still has it.
I am a supermarket price and food critic and not welcome in any supermarket so the indicator light is a big deal.. I have the GO3 and I CAN switch it off.. so have you discovered whether or not the indicator can be turned off on this newer model? and is the audio quality similar or improved? Thanks for your time. Cheers.
As always, this is a very useful analysis and good and honestly recommendation Thank you Otto for your contributions to help us on buying decision. Go ahead
I want to use it mounted to hat in pre recording mode to capture last 15 sec whenever i want. The previous version only lasted 10 min before overheating which defeats the purpose of it. Will the 3s overheat in pre recording mode or will it last the full 38min? If filiming in 1080p 60fps what is battery life pre recording without dock?
Previous version which one? The Go 2? That was not a good one and yeah it did overheat quickly. The Go 3 and this Go 3S handle heat way way better. I’m not sure about the pre recording battery life but I’ll assume it’s the same if you are recording or very close since the camera is indeed recording, it just deleted whatever was older and keeps the new footage
not sure if insta360 have a dome for this camera. Regarding gimbals, I have been able to place the whole thing (pod with camera) on some gimbals that have a wider clamp, like the hohem M6, Smooth 5S, etc. I haven't tried on the flow (I feel the clamp is not wide enough)
@@OttoJulian_ Thank u Otto for those infos.. anyway i was hoping insta 360 will come up with dome port either ace pro or go 3s because those are the 2 i am considering buying.
@@ricardoong5553 I know they have a dome but I just can't remember for which camera it was. They even wanted to send me one but I had no time to review it
@@OttoJulian_ i see, besides 4k video resolution, any other main advantage of go 3s over 3? As currently go 3 price cost ard 260usd and gopro 12 cost around 320usd for secondhand unit here, both are second hand, but do understand insta 360 is easier to clip/tag for simple vlog while gopro is heavier n must rely on strap (using a gopro 5 now), so having hard time to choose lol, do you think based on this pricing, which device is more worth (for me only use for simple vlog, also record some skateboarding pov)
1:28 it is a lot of money if we talk about memory prices exclusively, and not in comparison to the whole unit price or how apple charges consumers. For those camera and video specs, my 20 euro 256 GB sandisc is an overkill, but no, they have to sell me 64 GB internal for extra $30. It's purely marketing.
Hi. I suffer from battery and time anxiety lol and I just can't comprehend that a camera only has juice to record a bit over an hour. Can you record non-stop if you have that cam and the pod with a big storage micro SD and if it's plugged to a portable power bank? Thanks!
Plugging and using it's not a thing. You're breaking it even more. This camera it's a add on. More like to make short videos like POVs or additional shots.
Thanks for the amazing review! I’ve wanted one for a while now, but didn’t know if it was a smart purchase. I’m gonna try and convince my parents to let me buy one! 😂
I took a few pictures and they were not bad, but all of them with plenty of light. I removed that section from the original video because I didn’t have enough test pics to determine if it’s worth using for that or not. Will test more soon
Can you still manually choose between horizontal and vertical in the settings _without_ physically turning the camera? Or even, can you shoot regardless and decide after in editing?
You need to change the orientation of the camera physically. The other way around is to shoot using FreeFrame mode, then you can select your aspect ratio in post

Thank you for sharing what you found so far.
I wish I could trade in my go 3. So stupid they don't have a trade in program.
People say framerate is very important and for that is better version 3 is true ?
@@willywin7591 not sure what you mean. Are you saying the Go3 has a framerate that is not present on the Go3s?
@rickyelvis3215 in my opinion it’s better
Great review. I have GO 3 and just bought GO 3S because of the additional features: 4K, Tilt Fix, Gesture Control, and Interval Video. This is a great everyday video camera for family and casual vloggers.
True! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Did you buy the entire setup? Or just the standalone camera and use the older 3 dock?
I was getting tired of all the sponsored reviews so I'm really glad I subbed to you awhie ago. Everyone would just simply say they didn't experience something instead of actually testing it
Oh I know, one of the reasons I started making YT videos was because people don't test things out and they just read the specifications written on the box, or they just say everything that the manufacturer said about the product.
Great review. I appreciate you showing the body mounting options.
You are welcome! 🙏
Clear, simple and straightforward review. Awesome. Keep it up.
@@mariusdeffosoh9112 thank you !

Damn, that test footage is impressive. They made some solid upgrades with the camera quality and low light performance. Great review
Yeah compared to the Go3 this is a beast
Were those videos color graded or out of camera bro? Great video!
I try to do little to no editing to the videos so people have a better idea of what to expect
Can you transfer recorded files from it to your phone for quick editing on capcut?
THIS is the review I was looking for! Thank you Otto!
You are welcome Frank!
It'd be nice if there was a plugin for and editor like DaVinci Resolve so you didn't have to use the Insta360 software to edit freeframe. That way you don't have to re-encode / compress the video several times to then port to an editor. Losing footage quality per generation is something every editor tries to avoid.
that would be nice
The option of choosing between horizontal and vertical when shooting sounds like a good thing but if you're a user of the previous versions of this camera being able to choose the orientation after recording is an even bigger perk which is lost with this camera. choosing after you record means you can use the same video for different uses (TH-cam long form and shorts, IG reels and TH-cam etc).
True
So can you chose btw horizontal and vertical or not? 😢
Good honest review. Appreciate that. I just ordered the S
Good choice!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Action 4 is a good one to have for sure!
The Go3 didn't have the locked landscape mode depending on camera position and I didn't about the difference until after I finished my first trail ride with the Go 3s and my whole ride was in portrait lol. Next time I'll know.
@@tilapiah6 yeah that’s right, Go3 was different in that regard
Realistically, it’s a device accessory that should actually be included with the original camera for convenience, instead they are erroneously charging $45…
🤔
I always enjoy your reviews. Seems honest
Glad you like them! Thanks!
That’s a good idea
Thanks for a proper review and unaltered footage. Helps one decide whether the footage is worth spending 600$ on a bundle or not. Not for me.
Thank you for the feedback and sharing your opinion
Very good video. Authentic narration. You've earned my thumbs up.
Much appreciated!
If your start shooting horizontal and then the camera goes vertical will it keep shooting horizontal?
I’m returning it. It doesn’t allow you to film in 9:16 when camera is horizontal or using the hat clip. Something should know
@@ItsNoe That’s disappointing
@@ItsNoe Not even on free frame mode? That is really wrong.
If you switch position when you are recording it will not switch the orientation
Using freeframe you can select the orientation when you bring the video to the insta360 app
I suppose the answer to the problem of the action pod running out of battery and not working is to use your phone with the insta360 app or using the Older GPS remote (not the new one with preview screen). That way you can change setting at least. And I guess with the app you can see the video preview too.
Yeah that can work
Always a really great and down to earth review and a great location set to do them in too.
Glad you like them!
Hello, do insta 360 3s support external mic now?
I guess you didn’t watch the video 😆. No…
I'm here at your video, for the reason the FreeFrame mode does not work as expected.
@@OttoJulian_ and thanks for getting back so quick.
3:45 Why there is osmo pocket in mirror? Also 8:02 in shadow seems more like osmo pocket than insta go.
Side by side testing for next video Sherlock
Wait wait wait. So if you are shooting horizontally and you wanted a vertical shot of what you were shooting you do not get the extra vertical video estate?
Go2 and go3 can be reframed later, so no reframing in the 3s?
reframing later can be done using FreeFrame, but I there are a few things that are not working correctly there, the preview that appears on the screen doesn't match the actual footage
Subsribed! For the fact of you´re listing all the gear above. I was also looking for a not sponsored review. Last but not least: your content is very ok.

Just ok, I think this camera should be used for videos, that's it
Still no memory card slot?
Do I need to turn ON the app or action pod when using the Go3 camera or I can just use the Go3 camera itself ?? Is there a zoom in & out or pause features in GO3 ??? Thanks 🙏🏼
No you don’t need to use the pod or the app. The camera works on its own. 2x zoom can be used on the screen of the pod
No pause feature
Can't you connect Dji mic2 through Bluetooth?
it wouldn't pair
Do u still get 4k quality with just the camera and the action pod from the go 3? I’ve noticed you said you can use the camera with your go 3 pod to save money so are the settings the same or it changes once it’s set in the pod?
The resolution is inside the camera, the POD has no control over that.
Can you use it while charging it? With a portable charger for example?
You can yeah

I can’t decide between this and the Ace Pro!!!! I might lean towards the pro for night / low light shots but this thing is cool, and the indoor and lower light footage looks great. I’d love to see a comparison between this and the ace pro!

What about the freeframe reduced field of view? Deal breaker?
I think there is a bug with the vertical mode on freeframe. I just got a message from them about it.
Oh cool! That’s good news
Should be fixable then
@@LHG-Media that's what I'm hoping for
Can you name the selfie stick or tripod stand which you have connected to Insta360 go3s??
I was just using a small tripod that came with a Zhiyun gimbal. Any tripod will work, a small one is recommended
the best mode on the go2 was "pro mode" you never needed to change the settings for vertical or horizointal video until post. why is it such a good feature now that if you record upright or horizontal it will record in that orientation>? am I missing something here?
I think you meant Freeframe. There is no PRO mode. The new one still has it, so you can go in post to change the orientación, although the quality doesn’t look quite right and I was told that it’s a bug. Choosing orientation based on the position is for regular video mode, and for some people it’s not a good thing and for others it is. Just depends on the user
@@OttoJulian_ i hear you. I guess im confused on whats the difference between regular mode and freeframe. Freeframe seems like it has the most flexibility in post editing. But now your telling me the quality is worse and it might be bugged. So im even more confused lol
@@OttoJulian_ freeframe i guess is what they calling it after the go2. The go2 it was pro mode that allowed you to change the orientation in post
I’m looking for a small camera to film inside malls, for mall walking videos. Would you say the go3s could do indoor light well or would the ace pro be better? It looks like this little camera does quite well in indoor light!? (unlike my go pro, which is great in sunshine and terrible in lower or artificial light).
Ace Pro will be better in low light, this one will be ok but will be more discreet. Yeah GoPro is terrible in low light
Excellent open minded review with some great examples. I can't make up my mind between this, the X4, the FZ300, or simply actually using the dozen cameras I already have which rarely actually get used!

plusieurs commentaires,
@7:42 using the pod is not the only wait to charge the camera, you can now use the new quick reader to charge.
Side by side a downloaded version looks the same as the one in the camera (Take a screenshot of both and zoom in, they will look the same)
I have been told that you need the pod to activate the camera. You probably did that with your old pod
A helpful review, thanks. I have just ordered one through your Amazon affiliate link.
Thanks a million! Hope you enjoy it!
The battery life is only 140 min, so why do you need the 128?
that video will come out soon!
Awesome! Thank you and will look forward to it!
Cant you just plug a OTG with a usb directly to the little pod? via USB-C ?
main camera unit does not have a usb-c port
So the battery life is roughly 30 min? And how is it during nighttime or low light conditions?
nighttime is not going to give you good results.

@@OttoJulian_ what about battery wise
Can you overwrite the horizotnal/ Vertical video modes? Especially in POV hat mode it doesnt make sense to be forced to film in horizontal mode
Does it truly not overheat like the go3 does? My go3 can overly record for 20mins before it stops due to overheating
Overheating should not be an issue but again, this will all depend on external factors.
Hi Thomas. Are you talking about a video he made over a year ago on the topic, or is it another recent one
I’m considering upgrading to the Go3S, but I’m still hesitant.
Take your time to think if 4K is worth it for you or not
@@OttoJulian_ so u mean its worth upgrading to the 3S with that additional money?🧐

Cheers.
As I said, Go3s can shut down the light indicators.
As always, this is a very useful analysis and good and honestly recommendation
Thank you Otto for your contributions to help us on buying decision.
Go ahead
My pleasure Vincent! Thanks for your continuous support!
I want one but why the hell did they not make the quick reader part of the action pod? Seems like a rip off.
That’s an interesting idea! I think it’s because they didn’t want to redesign the pod. Guess we will see something like that with the Go4?
@@OttoJulian_ the normal 3 not 3s. it overheated 10min indoors 75F while prerecording.
I was wondering does the go 3s have dome port accessories like the gopro?
And can it attach to flow gimbal?
not sure if insta360 have a dome for this camera. Regarding gimbals, I have been able to place the whole thing (pod with camera) on some gimbals that have a wider clamp, like the hohem M6, Smooth 5S, etc. I haven't tried on the flow (I feel the clamp is not wide enough)
@@OttoJulian_
Thank u Otto for those infos.. anyway i was hoping insta 360 will come up with dome port either ace pro or go 3s because those are the 2 i am considering buying.
@@ricardoong5553 I know they have a dome but I just can't remember for which camera it was. They even wanted to send me one but I had no time to review it
@@OttoJulian_
Thanks Otto for your reply.. because i am really fascinated with dome shots.
Hi, so if 360 go 3s worth getting or is 360 go 3 at secondhand price better in your opinion? Using for simple vlog, thanks
I'd get the GO 3S
You can't use a microSD card on this camera, you can plug it to a powerbank and use it
Thanks for the amazing review! I’ve wanted one for a while now, but didn’t know if it was a smart purchase. I’m gonna try and convince my parents to let me buy one! 😂
Sure thing! Show them the video maybe then they can make a decision together with you
@@OttoJulian_ good idea, thanks!
How is the image quality on photos ?
I took a few pictures and they were not bad, but all of them with plenty of light. I removed that section from the original video because I didn’t have enough test pics to determine if it’s worth using for that or not. Will test more soon
Can you still manually choose between horizontal and vertical in the settings _without_ physically turning the camera?
Or even, can you shoot regardless and decide after in editing?
No, sadly the sensor is not 1:1 but 4:3 and you have to turn the camera to change orientation....
@@Buggiy [sigh] Why do Insta360 always do things like this that make you consider buying the previous model. With the X4 they removed AEB.
You need to change the orientation of the camera physically. The other way around is to shoot using FreeFrame mode, then you can select your aspect ratio in post
@@OttoJulian_ FreeFrame mode is what I'll always use then! Glad it's still possible. That was almost a dealbreaker. Thank you!
Dji osmo action 2 vs insta360 go 3s?
Which has better details in 4k?
Which is better for pov?
The Action 2 was just an ok camera. I'd take this one over the A2 anytime. If you want to go with DJI Action camera lineup, get the Action 4.
Didn’t expect that answer as the dji 2 has superior video quality .
@@TopblokeGolf Action 2: Muddy look overall, lack of details, bad dynamic range looking at today's standards, video artifacts are visible when looking on a regular screen. Sorry man, I just went to my old folder with videos taken with the A2, and if those videos were taken today with a new released camera, honest reviewers would crush it out.
But that’s just my opinion, you don’t have to listen to my limited experience
@@OttoJulian_ the go3 has over sharpened ring door bell look about it to me .
Hands off the cameras of this brand.
We lost recordings of a wedding due to a firmware error.
The camera also has problems with the connection contacts.
Not recommended at all!
firmware error? that doesn't sound right, sorry about your lost footage.
What is the battery time of 4K 30?
Didn’t test but should be about the same as 24fps
I’ve seen some reviews that say it has to be stabilized after you shoot the video is this true? Is it stable when it’s out of the main pod?
That’s if you use freeframe mode, you have to apply the stabilization inside their app but it’s just a few steps
