    Elize Ryd was one of many singers who sent a demo to Tuomas after they fired Tarja. She was on the short list but Tuomas thought she was a bit to young (22-23) to handle all the crap he knew would be coming. But she did get to sing with Nightwish when Anette was taken to hospital during the US tour. So Elize and Alissa Gluz, who both toured with Kamelot as support act to Nightwish at the time, jumped in and sang the songs they knew, and Marko did the rest of them. And they gave Floor some support on her first day on the new job too. ;)

    Yea, Amaranthe definitely has a particular sound. They're one of my favorites because it just overwhelms me with energy, but they're definitely not for everyone. Glad you checked them out either way! They're actually friends with Sabaton, and did a cover of their song "82nd All the Way" If you want to give them another try (plus, hey, more Sabaton too!)
    PS; This makes 4 out of my top 5 bands that have appeared on your channel, only one left is Avantasia, though the mastermind of that band has appeared on the channel with Ayreon before. It's like a game of Metal Bingo!

    Amaranthe is a wierd band...and I mean that in a positive way, like, unique...a lot of synths, the choruses are basically pop... I think any person who listens to them for the first time and comes from a metal background is not going to be sold on them in the first try, I know I wasn't...but over the years I started to apreciate their music, especially those catchy choruses and Elyze vocals!

    They just dropped the official music video for their song "BOOM!" yesterday and it's incredibly heavy. I'd also recommend their song "GG6". Both of these songs predominantly feature GG6 (the harsh vocalist's stage name; his real name is Henrik) and they are really good. GG6 has a very unique style to how he growls in certain songs. You'll see and hear what I mean if you listen to the ones I mentioned. "Countdown" and "Dream" are two other songs that have a unique style to them, but "Dream" may be a bit too light for you, so not sure. Amaranthe is known for being very synth/electronics forward, and Elize's vocal quality adds a pop element to it. Nils' vocals are also really great and power metal oriented, as he has his own band called Dynazty.

  • @charleshenggeler2691
    @charleshenggeler2691 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    Well I respect that you aren't overwhelmed by them. They are one of the bands that I will listen to regularly. I think "Digital world" would fit your style closer. It doesn't have crazy solo but definitely more of the growling. Their new song "Boom" has lot of his vocals. And I would agree his vocals are probably my favorite. The female vocalist Elize Ryd was/is(not 100% sure) in Kamelot also.

    • @walleb6331
      @walleb6331 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      She has only done guest vocals for Kamelot. Kamelot has never had an official female singer in their band but they do a lot of guest vocals with different female singers. Elize Ryd, Simone Simmons, Alissa White-Gulz have all guest appeared for Kamelot to name a few.

    Tank, I enjoy your reaction whether you like the song or not and your honesty is what I'm here for. At least you don't pretend liking things you don't enjoy listening to. Most reactors do that just to please their viewers, as viewers like their taste to be validated by you guys. People need to chill, you did say you like this song, you just don't love or hate it lol. In all honesty, this band isn't for me. I can't stand bands with more than 2 vocalists, just too much going on, but I can appreciate the hard work they put in.

    Yeah, Fearless is definitely not the best song to start with. I personally would recommend a double feature with Sabaton and both versions of 82nd All the Way, but The Nexus, Drop Dead Cynical, and Digital World are also very good starting points. Or, if you're ever in the mood for something softer, Amaranthine is an absolutely beautiful song that blends incredibly well. The Nexus
    Automatic

    Now my fave is Electroheart but I love it because it's a mix of para para, eurobeats and metal so it's not for everyone.

    Well...for more Amaranthe, I gotta recommend my personal fav: Amaranthine.
    It's a ballad, true...but I think it's more of a rock ballad. It doesn't feel that poppy to me though.
    And, for a change of pace, if you want to dip a toe into some video game metal (mostly instrumental covers of video game theme songs), check out Power Glove's cover of Guile's Theme from Street Fighter II and the theme from Panzer Paladin.

    @digitalmonster6049 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Um... I wouldn't go with any suggestions for "BOOM!1" or "GG6" if I were you. Those songs seem like a great way to kill your interest in this band just based off this reaction. You would probably be more likely to enjoy more old-school Amaranthe, from their debut self-titled album and their sophomore album, The Nexus. Both male vocalists are different, however. I recommend "Hunger", "1.000.000 Lightyears", "Invincible" and "The Nexus". These tracks have a much better blend of styles in my opinion. Additionally, "Burn With Me" and "Amaranthine" are excellent rock ballads as well. Keep rocking on!

  • @mikkolaine4883

    This is very typical standard song for Amaranthe and gives a pretty good image of their music. However there those pearly moments. Many times mentioned cover of 82nd All the Way is definitely one of their best performances. I really liked their two first albums and then I think they went too much in modern list pop influences and don't like it that much. This song had the same more 90's vibe that hits my taste better. Let's take some of the different end songs: Archangel is their most likely heaviest song, a real headbanger; then Amaranthine is a stunning metal ballad. I got in tears during the song when they played it live on a tour supporting Sabaton.
    The clean vocal singers are actually very talented and they get a bit underrated in Amaranthe. The female lead singer Elize Ryd is an excellent singer and she could stand out much higher. Some of her best performances is the guest appearance in Kamelot - Sacrimony (official live) and the nice duet with Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica) for a Christmas song (metal ballad version) Julen Är Här. A fan fact of Elize: she has sang one gig as Nightwish lead singer co-worked with Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy).
    Nils Molin has done more power stuff in his earlier main band Dynazty. Some of my favorite songs by them are a very catchy Heartless Madness and a faster Human Paradox.

    i personally prefer their older stuff, with the original lineup. imo it was a bit cleaner, and their newer stuff seems to be much more cluttered. anything from their first album is very good. "hunger" is probably the song most ppl check out for the first time and one id recommend. "amaranthine" is my favorite song, but its a bit slower. 1.000.000 light years is also very solid

    For a solo Amaranthe song I would recommend The Nexus, GG6 and for a more of a lighter sound Amaranthine

    Amaranthe toured Europe together with Sabaton and Apocalyptica. For Sabatons final stop of the tour in Oslo (which was amazing), they brought Amaranthes vocalists up on stage to join them for 82nd all the Way (which Amaranthe did a cover of before the tour which is just as good as the original).

    Another vote for Amaranthe's "Nexus" and/or "Burn With Me"... The relationship with Nightwish goes back to Elize (then touring with Kamelot) and the Denver Nightwish concert. ("The Denver Debacle" video on TH-cam - should be the Denver miracle!)..... Elize can growl too - see their new video "Boom"!... Her demo tryout for Nightwish, "Nemo", was good too! The mix of 3 vocals is Amaranthe's signature.

  • @Teddy-pf8yy

    While I do like this song, it might not of been the best to start with from them. 1,000,000 Lightyears and Hunger are two really good ones from them. The Nexus is too, and I think that might be one of their more popular ones. Or if you want to do a little battle of the bands type video in the form of a double reaction, Sabaton did a song called 82nd All the Way that Amaranthe then did a cover of. Also, interestingly enough, I believe I read somewhere that Amaranthe is from the same town as Sabaton.

  • @isaiahwelch8066
    @isaiahwelch8066 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Tank. Given you had some issues with this reaction, here are some better songs to react to:
    1) Drop Dead Cynical
    2) Helix
    3) GG6 (The harsh vocalist invented "growl rapping" in this one)
    4) Digital World
    5) Countdown
    6) Archangel
    7) Do or Die, ft. Angela Gossow
    And yeah, I get why you might not have liked this song. Amaranthe had an earlier single, Strong, which was definitely not a strong song. As it stands, I'd recommend reacting to Amaranthe's cover of Sabaton's song "82nd All The Way," which is about Sgt. Alvin York, the most-decorated US Army soldier of World War I, who captured, single-handedly, 270 German POWs, as well as disabling 5 machine-gun nests.

    Honestly, not the greatest first song... I would suggest BOOM!1 or GG6 for the harder song, or maybe some of the older for the more... electro/dance/pop metal styled songs - Boomerang, Electroheart, Invincible, Hunger, Trinity, Digital World, Drop Dead Cynical or The Nexus.
    For more straight power metal, you could go for Nils Molin's(clean vocalist) band Dynazty, I would suggest Firesign or Pressence of Mind.

  • @Zerethon

    "That guy screaming more" Heh, for a first impression this isn't really the song i would have picked for you. More your speed would be "Boom!" or "GG6" Heck, even "Viral" Mostly from the new album. Fearless is more "Classic" amaranthe, they've always loved mixing the clean vocalists (Elize and Nils here) with breaks of Henrik (AKA GG6) crushing it. Dude raps in a full metal scream in Boom, for instance.
    Great reaction as always!

    and maybe you'll get used to their pop, dance, electronic, melodic, heavy sound... or not 😂

    Random trivia for you to check out Tank, if you're interested, there was an occasion where Elize (Amaranthe) stood in as vocalist for Nightwish ("The Denver Debacle" (2012) captured in the DVD "Showtime, Storytime").
    Not the strongest performance ever, but certainly a unique happening and the crowd was enjoying the show! :)
    This is their sound in a nutshell more or less. Electronic metal with clean male/female vocals with some growl parts mixed in.
    As for song suggestions, well.. "The Nexus" was their big breakthrough hit as far as I know (link below). Has a sweet guitar solo as well!

    Uh. Funny band. Can't say I like them as a band, but they're bunch of great musicians trying to mix all of their skills together. You hear that instrumentally they're doing great. And I can assure you Elize definitely can sing (for example, Endlessly, it's the song with only her on vocals). BUT THREE SINGERS DUDE. And they have to give them all a time to make a solo part. They just can't show their best abilities, they have no time for that! This amount of vocal force limits them in genre, so as for me, all of their songs are identical. Except for a couple of songs written mainly for Elize.

    It's funny you say that about the clean singers vs the guy screaming Tank, because I'm exactly the opposite. Everytime I listen to Amaranthe I'm like "Man if only I could have clean vocals over the whole thing I'd enjoy this band so much more."
    Amaranthe is a really interesting band though, I saw them live when they opened for Sabaton (and when they joined Sabaton on stage for 82nd all the way) during the the Great Tour, and it is very much like having Auditory whiplash. One minute you're like "oh okay so we're listening to a metal-mid-2000's-synth blend." then the next song comes along and I'm thinking "Hello mid 90's rock, what are you doing in my heavy metal?" before 10 minutes later I'm thinking "Is that undertones of Hip Hop I hear?"
    Very enterntaining to watch live though, I know what I said above makes me sound like I don't like Amaranthe, but they where so enjoyable and just outright crazy to watch live that I came home and bought several of their albums the following day.

    Ahaaaa! Run! Lol, yep, looks like the Amaranth folks are out for blood. From a long time Nightwish Army member; I totally agree with you, Tank. Each member of that band seem like totally outstanding musicians. And, yeah, their extreme vocalist has got great technique. But... in my most humble opinion, with all the synth overlay consistent in most all of their music, I hate to say it, but, it makes 95% of their tunes sound exactly the same - just a change of title and lyric. Sorry, gotta be honest though.
    A couple of safe bets are: "Amaranthine" because I love the song and Henrik(spelling? Sorry) shines in this one, and, "Digital World" because of it's "now" relevancy and it's just a kick ass tune as well.
    Ms Ryd in some of her other projects does a song "Endlessly" that has got to be the most beautiful love song ever written for the quasi-metal stage. Seriously bro, check this one out in reaction or on your own time. Grab the vid with the two dancers - they'll blow your mind as well.
    Absolutely love your work, tank. Keep up the Nightwish reactions and...
    Cheers, my friend!

    Their own stuff also sounds very Pop meets Metal to me, which is fine, but not always something I really love. That being said, they're great musicians, but that does make it such that a cover like Sabaton's 82nd All the Way really makes shem shine that much more, to me.

    From 🇫🇮Finland ❤️ Amaranthe, ❤️ Elize. In a channel we ranked all Manifest-album songs, I ranked "Fearless" as the top track of the album. Very strong album, IMHO it has several songs that would be among my top 10 Amaranthe songs.
    I think this is typical Amaranthe. And yeah many of their songs could be called dance metal. I listen so many music genres that it isn't hard for me to like Amaranthe's music at all. If one is into heavier and darker metal, it might be difficult.

    Aaaaaand another band I have to catch up on - I like so many different bands and styles of music I have to catch up on ^^' I often have to really decide which purchases I make and yesterday two game scores by Austin Wintory won over anything metal, punk, rock or in the periphery of the three of those. Just needed something to wind down and relax and his stuff really is perfect for that. I actually haven't listened to any Amaranthe since Jake E left (which means I got at least two more albums to catch up on ^^') and from what I heard here I really think I like him better as male clean singer over the new guy, but I'm definitely not gonna judge him by that one song and open that can of "I hate that new singer, the new one was way better" worms.
    That being -said- written, my catalogue of suggestions is probably a bit antiquated and since I often like their power ballads it maybe just isn't for you. My favourites - as of now - are: Amaranthine, Automatic, Enter the Maze, Splinter in my soul, theory of everything, Burn with me, mechanical illusion, future on hold, infinity, massive addictive, true, unreal, over and done, skyline, exhale, trinity, limitless, break down and cry, supersonic and endlessly. Some of them are being a bit on the harder side, but I'm afraid you wouldn't really get rid of the synths, that somewhat poppy melodies mixed in with that more harsher death metally stuff that often appears a bit "hectic" is kind of a trademark of them :/.
    BTW, if you enjoy any of the singers (including Jake E), they often feature on other band's releases or are active in other bands as well:
    ▪︎Jake E is in Cyhra with In Flames former guitarist Jesper Strömblad, they are 2 albums in and since you had some IF on in some of your intros/outros who knows, tonight like their stuff.
    ▪︎Elize Ryd seems to be a bit of a jack - of - all - trades, she really dabbles in a lot of different stuff and appears on other bands' works and does live vocals for them. Right of the top of my head, I'd put Kamelot and Takida down here.
    ▪︎ Aaaaand since you seemed to enjoy Henriks harsh ones, maybe check out Scarpoint? He's doing vocals in that one, too, they're two albums in, the first being "The silence we deserve" and I'd probably consider them somewhere in the melodic death metal realm (but don't hold me to that I'm notoriously bad at labeling bands and put them in neat little genre boxes ^^')
