This is a single from their first self-titled album, released in 2011. The band has had some lineup changes since then. The clean male vocalist with the dreads in this video, Jake E. Lundberg, and the harsh male vocalist, Andreas Solvestrom, left the band in 2016 and 2013 respectively. Jake's vocals can be heard from the first album up until the fourth album, Maximalism, while Andreas lended his vocals for the first two albums, Amaranthe and The Nexus. Henrik Englund Wilhelmsson (his stage name is GG6) is the current harsh male vocalist and has been in the band since 2013. He can be heard from the third album and onward. Nils Molin is the current clean male vocalist and has been in the band since 2016. He can be heard on the two most recent albums, Helix and Manifest, the latter of which is there sixth studio album and was just released three days ago on October 2nd. Helix was the band's fifth album and was released in 2018. All other members have been in the band since its inception, those being Elize Ryd (clean female vocals), Olof Morck (guitars and keys), Morten Lowe Sorensen (drums), and Johan Andreassen (bass). They have a dynamic sound since there are three main vocalists. I'd recommend checking out these songs to see how the band has evolved over time: - "1,000,000 Light Years" (from their first album, Amaranthe, released in 2011) - "Invincible" and "The Nexus" (from their second album, The Nexus, released in 2013) - "Drop Dead Cynical" and "Digital World" (from their third album, Massive Addictive, released in 2014) - "Boomerang" and "Maximize" (from their fourth album, Maximalism, released in 2016) - "Dream", "365", and "GG6" (from their fifth album, Helix, released in 2018) - "Archangel" and "Fearless" (from their sixth album, Manifest, released in 2020) Thanks for checking this band out! They're awesome and so are you!
Great summary and suggestions, these are as good a start as any, they have loads of good songs. Olof Mörck and Elize writes most of the songs too if I'm not mistaken.
I would really like to add "Helix" from the respective album to the list. Yeah, its sad that both male singers heard in this song since left the band, but the new additions are really really great in what they're doing
The European metal scene is so rich with great vocalists; I feel sorry for American pop fans, most of whom will never be exposed to any of this. Glad you got to Amaranthe! Definitely on the essential list.
Chase Carneson loving it! I am such a fan of their music. Power metal meets euro pop, what more could you want? With some pop diva riffs thrown in for good measure.
Chase, you have the incredible ability to take songs I already love and, through your insights, make me love them even more. That's probably the greatest compliment I can give a reaction artist. Thanks!
What I love about Amaranthe is a lot of their songs (especially the older stuff) is structured like a classic pop song, just a lot heavier. You could almost imagine them being on Eurovision
Fun facts : Elize auditioned as Nightwish's frontwoman back in 2005 after they fired Tarja. Her cover of Nemo can be found on TH-cam. She was among the finalists but they felt she lacked experience and instead hired Anette Olzon. Years later, in 2012, during their North American Imaginaerum tour, Kamelot was Nightwish's support band, with Elize Ryd and Alissa White-Gluz as touring vocalists. When Anette fell ill minutes before Nightwish's Denver show, Elize and Alissa covered for her and the show went on with the two then-Kamelot-vocalists. That did not sit well with Anette who publicly condemned the band on her personal blog for not cancelling the show. This was the last straw and in the following days, Anette was fired and Floor joined the band as their touring vocalist. We know the rest of the story. So Nightwish and Elize Ryd have a history together and she was unwittingly instrumental in Floor joining Nightwish.
Yaaaaaaas, I’ve Been waiting for you to pick up on Amaranthe, as you said they’re so technically “sound” as musicians with the style that they’re a little more palatable for people who may not be into such heaviness but they mix enough metal in to really get a great sounds for us Metal heads that they’re great at introducing Metal to people that typically wouldn’t listen to it as I have done with SEVERAL co workers all of whom are more avid listeners. They’re awesome and I’m so glad to get Amaranthe into the mix.
Elize sent a demo to Tuomas when Nightwish were searching for a new singer after Tarja. Tuomas liked her, but he thought she was to young, he knew there would be a lot of writing and pressure on whoever became the new singer. So they chose Anette. Oh, Floor and Elize are good friends.
Perhaps a reaction the Elize audition for Nightwish where she sings Nemo? Still can't understand how they picked Anette over Elize, ut hey it gave us Amaranthe. th-cam.com/video/Mi9BtooY3Ko/w-d-xo.html
@@AlvenmodFoto i honestly dont think she woulda been a much better fit than anette was. they kinda have the same style but anette had experience, elize did not. and i can only imagine the pressure of replacing tarja as a 22yo upcoming singer. i think they made the right choice with anette even if it ultimately wasnt the best fit for the band
thekillingtomat yeah you're probably right, I do believe Elize outshines Anette though both in studio and live, I think she would have done a good job too. But as yiu say she was very young at the time, but it all turned out for the best, we got Floor in NW and Amaranthe from Elize. Win win. 😂
@@AlvenmodFoto i agree, i think elize is better than anette, but they have the same style. she wouldnt have been able to sing like tarja so fans would have been disappointed either way. we got two great bands out of it instead. three if you like the dark element (anettes band)
YAAAS more Amaranthe please! Admittedly I haven't listened to their newer albums but I'm sure they're great. They've got their own sound, which is catchy and fantastic and they run with it.
Thanks for sharing your reaction. I had seen the band name on other videos but I never clicked until now. I'm gonna check out more of their tracks now😊👍✌
What I love about Amaranthe, besides the 3 singers, is the production quality and clear influence from 80's synth music. They always use a lot of synthetizers, but they never overdo them.
One of my favorite bands, Hunger was the first Amaranthe vid I saw and I was hooked. Ordered every CD they did just got the new one last week. Love how they come up with epic vids to their music. I would say watch The Nexus next. That was my 2nd vid I watched from them but there are tons more!
Would love for you to listen to some of these following underrated bands. They are all awesome in their own way, just some of the bands I always come back to: "Ad Infinitum - Marching On Versailles" "In This Moment - The In-Between" "Cellar Darling - Insomnia"
Their songs Helix and Countdown are also great. You can also check out Beyond the Black, another very good band and Elize is a guest artist on their new album.
Elize✨ ..... Helped Nightwish save their Denver gig along with Alissa.... Not unpleasant to watch either! 😉 ... 2 singers?... was waiting for it!!! 😄 yes, 3!... Olaf on guitar. The video of his wedding with Elize singing "Endlessly" is awesome.
Chase: oh I didn’t know they had two singers Me: wait for it... Chase: so we got three vocalist. All Amaranthe videos are like little movies. They are so fun. They have a different line up now for the male vocalists, who personally, I prefer. But this is still like a great song.
Thumbs up for Chase's Mom! I enjoy me some Amaranthe, and how they make use of three vocalists. I wish they were slightly less... pop? Not the choruses, I love the choruses, but there's just something about them that I can only describe as sounding "pre-packaged." I fully understand it's a matter of taste, and that I'm probably not explaining it well, but it's just how they make me feel. Also, I love how Chase is the full gamut of air instruments now.
If you really are looking for ballads, look for Amaranthe's Endlessly. The video for it was filmed at Olaf's wedding (he is the founder of the band and the main songwriter, he was the one seen in this video playing the violin). Absolutely amazing song.
Welcome to Swedish electronicore, Chase! Amaranthe is just the tip (and most mainstream) of the iceberg. Can't wait for you to get into Sonic Syndicate, Dead By April and Scar symmetry! Scar symmetry is more melodeath / prog than the others, but remain a lot of the same electronicore elements.
Yes! Amaranthe. Great band, even through some people claim they are too mainstream. I love them! "Amaranthine" "Viral" "Archangle" "Fearless" "Helix" "Digital World" are great songs from them. They also did a cover of Sabatons "82 all the way!" Have fun going down the rabbit hole! Great reaction as always.
Watching your reactions to great parts in songs just hypes me up so much, the genuine joy in your face when breakdowns or solos hit gives me that sweet sweet seratonin. 💜 If I could also recommend an Amaranthe song, Invincible is my favorite from their older stuff
Chase! Another rabbit hole for you...ohhhh yeah...my favorite group...a/1a with nightwish...within temptation...faster, a demons fate, in vein, mad world...too many to list...enjoy...oh..amaranth...razorblade🤟😎
My man Chase!! Nightwish, Sabaton and now Amaranthe! I think I might be in love, so glad to see you took Sabaton in yesterday and to see you enjoy Amaranthe today, can't wait for more reactions. Amaranthe has been around for a while so they have a great catalogue, I am sure youll get plenty of suggestions, if you want to d ve straight into their latest release yiu have Fearless, just released a few days ago, before that Archangel, Viral and Strong, all from the latest album Manifest. Swedin FTW.! 🇸🇪😂👊
YEAH, AMARANTHE!!! Loved your analysis, I’ve been listening to this band for a long time and you made me discover new things about this song. Love how they create unparalleled catchy and energetic songs by mixing metal with this electronic/pop influence, as you said they make you want to dance. For the next one by them I would recommend “Electroheart” for even a catchier tune or “365” for a more calmer/ballad-y one.
If you're looking for a more recent track, "Viral" and "Archangel" from the new album are excellent. For some more "classic" Amaranthe go with "The Nexus" or "Drop Dead Cynical". I put "classic" in quotes because honestly to me they've sounded more or less the same since the beginning, but I'm curious to see if you hear any major differences in their sound between earlier and later stuff, aside from different vocalists.
I had a feeling you'd like the energy in Amaranthe's songs. Glad you finally got the chance to react to them. Would love to see you do either 1,000,000 Lightyears or 82nd All the Way next by them. Btw, 82nd All the Way is a cover, and the original is by Sabaton, so if you wanted you could react to both, either in the same video or one day after the next and see which version you like better of the two. Almost like a battle of the bands if you will.
"Why are they beating him up? I guess that's why he's angry" Hahahaha One thing you might want to keep in mind if it makes a difference in how you want to do a journey . . . they have since new guy singers, the cleans (in 2017) and growls (in 2013). Elize is still there of course. The new-ish guys are really awesome too. Awesome older songs: Drop Dead Cynical, Digital World, The Nexus Awesome newer songs: Archangel, GG6, Fearless They also covered a Sabaton song, 82nd All The Way. You could do a 2-for-1
as much as i love andy (harsh vocals) and jake (clean male vocals), i love amaranthe even more with nils (new clean male vocalist) and henrik (aka gg6, harsh vocals). nils gives the songs even more power with his power metal like vocals and henrik... oh man his growling rap parts... specially on the songs gg6 and boom!
So did you know that Elize Ryd was a finalist for Nightwish's search for a new singer after Tarja? They chose Annette based upon experience, Elize was pretty new back then. She's worked hard and has become a great singer. It's so ironic that it was Elize(along with Aiyssa White Gluz) who saved Nightwish in Denver in 2012, when Annette couldn't perform
Awesome reaction as always! A few recommendations for future Amaranthe music (I've been listening to them since 2012), and these are in order from oldest to newest. - "Call Out My Name" from the self titled album Amaranthe is a great one with a similar sound, - both "Drop Dead Cynical" and "Digital World" from the album Massive Addictive shows the continuing evolution of their sound, - "Maximize" from the album Maximalism is probably the best known song from that album, - from the album Helix I'd look at "365", "Helix", and "GG6". I haven't gotten a chance to listen to the newest album yet, maybe I'll wait and do so here with the rest of the audience. :) Thanks as always Chase, have a damn good day.
"i didnt know there was 2 singers"... guys who's gonna tell him? I am a huge fan of this band, and i think Hunger is a really good place to start, yes it's old, but its one of their best works i think. on the other hand, by far the most of their songs are very very good (in a way that i subjectively enjoy them). I said it before and i say it again, i think you should listen to "The Nexus" and "Helix". Personally those two are my absolute favourites of this band.
its a good starting point since its pretty much their first song. their first album was an instant classic. every song is just awesome. my personal opinion is that they sounded better with their original lineup than they do now but the core of the band is still the same. i rly liked jake Es vocals and felt like something was missing without him. amaranthine is probably my favorite song by them, closely followed by drop dead cynical and the nexus.
Amaranthe - The Nexus Amaranthe - Digital World Amaranthe - 82nd all the way (Sabaton cover) Amaranthe - Burn with me Check out more from the lead guitarist, Olaf. Dragonland - The Black Mare Dragonland - Fire and Brimstone
You should check out their song Nexus, it´s feels kinda like hunger 2.0. Also, their Sabaton cover 82nd all the way is pretty awesome. If you want something less heavy, Amaranthine is a really good ballad.
Funny enough I found out about them cause I saw them opening for Babymetal last year. Yeah imagine getting a blind introduction to a band this good LIVE So yeah in the break between them & Babymetal I found out about their show with Sabaton & was there next year xD
Hey Chase, Again a great reaction. I Enjoy your reactions a lot because you really seem to know what you are talking about. Do you (or anybody else) have an idea in which genre they belong? Ofcourse there is metal, but i also get a dance]trance vibe from it. Either way, I love their music and am happy to have seen them twice. Graspop metal meeting in Belgium 2016 and Wacken Germany 2018. Had a blast both times!!!!!!
Exactly my thoughts, you just put it so much more eloquently. :-) I like them for the same reasons, easily digestible, melodic, some synthwork, galloping drums; good introduction to these styles, but not too much of any one of them. Also, Elize and Alissa White-Gluz are massively in my good books, if you will, for their effort at saving the Nightwish show at Ogden Theater, Denver, in 2012. Hilarious, crazy and insanely epic at the same time. You can get a glimpse of that if you watch the first half-hour or so of their documentary "Please Learn the Setlist in 48 Hours", which is the story of how Floor came to join the band.
Yay! I was waiting for this. They blew up with Hunger like crazy, they actually went viral with their first videos. Which blew me away back then. Aaah I'm enjoying this way too much. Also... (scared to say this) Morten (the drummer) is one of the reasons I knew I am gay. 😅 I never got the Elize stuff and couldn't figure out why no one was talking about the hotness of him. *silently goes away now'
July Lov Even funnier fact; Elize stepped in to save Nightwish gig in US after Anette vanished right before Floor came in. There’s interesting 2 hour document in TH-cam ”Nightwish - Please learn the setlist in 48 hours”.
Over the past one or two years I became more and more fond of bands with more than one vocalist. Amaranth's quite nice, but actually I like "Brothers of Metal" a bit more. (Maybe I've got a soft spot for bands that don't take themselves seriously at all, like "Alestorm" and "Wind Rose", too.) Another discovery's "Visions of Atlantis'" newest album "Wanderers" when it comes down to great duets.
I love Amaranthe! If you want to hear some of the current lineup, check out Countdown or Helix or songs from their latest album (out last week) like Viral, Archangel, or Do Or Die. Henrik's growls are fucking awesome and really mix well with Elize's poppy voice and Nils' power metal sound. And if you want to hear Elize sing a ballad listen to Endlessly or Amaranthine (old lineup). Another really fun song is Drop Dead Cynical, which has half of the old lineup and half of the new.
"No idea there were two singers".
But wait, there's more!

Great summary and suggestions, these are as good a start as any, they have loads of good songs. Olof Mörck and Elize writes most of the songs too if I'm not mistaken.

Amaranthe, Do or Die featuring Angela Gossow, good introduction to Angela as a vocalist
Welcome to the Amaranthe rabbit hole!
I guess that's why he's angry" Hahahaha
One thing you might want to keep in mind if it makes a difference in how you want to do a journey . . . they have since new guy singers, the cleans (in 2017) and growls (in 2013). Elize is still there of course. The new-ish guys are really awesome too.
Awesome older songs: Drop Dead Cynical, Digital World, The Nexus
Awesome newer songs: Archangel, GG6, Fearless
They also covered a Sabaton song, 82nd All The Way.
- "Call Out My Name" from the self titled album Amaranthe is a great one with a similar sound,
- both "Drop Dead Cynical" and "Digital World" from the album Massive Addictive shows the continuing evolution of their sound,
- "Maximize" from the album Maximalism is probably the best known song from that album,
- from the album Helix I'd look at "365", "Helix", and "GG6".
I haven't gotten a chance to listen to the newest album yet, maybe I'll wait and do so here with the rest of the audience. :)
Thanks as always Chase, have a damn good day.
Amaranthe choruses are just TOO GOD DAMN CATCHY, IT'S NOT FAIR
Another Swedish band: *Letters From The Colony* is a must next!! You need it in your life!
I've always wondered how much of the harmonies from this era were sung by Jake E, when playing live?
That guy has a very broad range.
The most underrated metal band ever! They are so freaking amazing! Try doing their new song FEARLESS next! Keep rockin’ it out! ❤️🤘🏻
Finally Amaranthe !!! Best band in the world !!! Next one should by Amaranthine and The Nexus.
its a good starting point since its pretty much their first song. their first album was an instant classic. every song is just awesome.
my personal opinion is that they sounded better with their original lineup than they do now but the core of the band is still the same. i rly liked jake Es vocals and felt like something was missing without him.
amaranthine is probably my favorite song by them, closely followed by drop dead cynical and the nexus.
Amaranthe - The Nexus
Amaranthe - Digital World
Amaranthe - 82nd all the way (Sabaton cover)
Amaranthe - Burn with me
Check out more from the lead guitarist, Olaf.
Dragonland - The Black Mare
Dragonland - Fire and Brimstone
Nice blue shirt, Mrs Carneson!
Thanks!
You should check out their song Nexus, it´s feels kinda like hunger 2.0. Also, their Sabaton cover 82nd all the way is pretty awesome.
If you want something less heavy, Amaranthine is a really good ballad.
Song that brings all three together well (in my opinion) is Amaranthine. But then again all their jams are cool :)
Wow.. first Sabaton and now Amaranthe. Maybe a double reaction comparing the song 82:nd all the way which Amaranthe do a super cover of.
Funny enough I found out about them cause I saw them opening for Babymetal last year.
Yeah imagine getting a blind introduction to a band this good LIVE
So yeah in the break between them & Babymetal I found out about their show with Sabaton & was there next year xD
The stewardess in the video looks the same as "Floor" 8: 02-8: 03, 8:38. I’m sure it’s not "Floor", but I was confused at one point.
One of my favorites is Digital World. And Drop Dead Cynical is one that got me interested, on a name alone )))
*silently goes away now'
Fun fact: Elize auditioned for Nightwish after Tarya was fired, bt they chose Annette.
July Lov Even funnier fact; Elize stepped in to save Nightwish gig in US after Anette vanished right before Floor came in. There’s interesting 2 hour document in TH-cam ”Nightwish - Please learn the setlist in 48 hours”.
@@vectorifix3218 yes, the Denver Debacle... really interesting to watch
Great reaction - as usual. 🙂 Nice that you started doing Amaranthe too. I would suggest Nexus next.
Another really fun song is Drop Dead Cynical, which has half of the old lineup and half of the new.
if you want more of Olof's guitar playing, check out his older band Dragonland
