Disengage from people who don't support your efforts for growth. Become more self-sufficient. Don't explain; just do. Ignore the noise around you and focus your attention on you.
Sometimes knowing something such as this, comes from a place of necessity. I am an RN. When i faced something as a diagnosis for a patient or a medication i didnt know much about, i would study, become as knowlegable as i could, before seeing the patient. So when you drew the picture, it clicked for me... Wow i have that tool in my life. I now need to apply it to myself, not as a nurse, but as being. A "self". Thank you
I always hated it when people would say to "get outside your comfort zone" like it's a shameful place to be. It's not. The comfort zone is where you go to rest, recuperate, and recharge. When you are ready, you'll expand your interests and feel ready to explore and learn something new. I like the visual of a stretch zone, sounds like a fun zone, close enough to the comfort zone to be safe but also close enough to the panic zone to not be boring.
I’ve never heard it explained like this, but it makes so much sense. I’m way too terrified to get a job working every single day interacting with people, but recently, I’ve been working with the local food bank and volunteering for a few hours whenever it’s possible, and it’s not as panic-inducing as getting a job where I have a million responsibilities. Volunteering, I just have to show up, help out where I can, and go home. That’s all that’s expected of me, and it’s way better than staying at home too scared to go out. I’m already making progress, I want to start helping with the resource center soon, it’s open all week, and it requires more out of me, but it’s something challenging that’s good for me. I hope that by summer time, I’ll have a good job. Edit (6/14/2024): I’m now a lifeguard at my pool and working towards being a counselor at a summer camp for kids. God is good, you guys🙏

Lots of love ❣️❣️ Honestly the way you explain really complicated things in an easy way is just fascinating to me and that's y i adore this channel.

Once when I was climbing I wanted to climb this 23 meter wall but since there were experienced climbers there I didn’t want to fail so I didn’t climb it until my dad pushed me and constantly asked me to climb it. So I climbed it and even some instructors came to watch! And I made it and my dad got me new climbing shoes 🙂

@@IvyWhiskeyDram Ok 😌 I'm sorry that this is so long but I really hope this helps and that I didn't write this for nothing. I also really hope that it makes sense haha sooo I was basically thinking of what I always thought was cool when other people did it and where I thought "I really wish I could do that". Some smaller things like: - saying something in a group conversation when I normally would just think it (if you want to do it like me and take a silent but deep breath and just say it. Yes I know it's not that easy) - laughing more often and not laughing if I find something offensive or not really funny - showing more of my real humor (for example more sarcasm or irony) - complimenting what I like about others and saying what I don't find like (like I told a former friend that I just can't deal with his really dark humor and that i find it hurtful) - touching my friends and family more often (like on the shoulder, arm or back) and hugging my family randomly (ofc only if you're comfortable) - texting someone if they want to meet up, even if I was scared they would say no - trusting more that people like me but still recognize the signs if they are faking it - if I am worried to be judged I trained myself to think more often "idc what are they gonna do" and if they do laugh about me I'll laugh about/with them and if they stare at me I stare at them - concentrating on the positive - realizing that I will 100% regret it if I don't live out my younger years There's also some bigger things I did regarding hobbies and stuff, for example: - I always wanted to play the drums but I never had the money for that so I called a music school, told them about it and went to a practice class where the first "try-out-day" is free. It was fun and the teacher was such an interesting and tbh kinda weird person. It went for like 2 hours but after that it felt so surreal and I felt so proud and happy. That was the first and last time I played the drums but I'm still happy that I did it - I also wanted to challenge my mind and body by having a sporty hobby, so I started my now-hobby of skateboarding by buying a used skateboard and practicing with a friend (that didn't know how to skateboard but really motivated me) on an empty parking lot. The first day I practiced for 3 hours and the third time I fell, I bruised my elbow because I was stupid enough to not wear safety gear. I couldn't skate for 3 - 4 weeks but somehow it got me excited because this also showed that I'm taking risks (even with safety gear) and that it is possible for me to not be upset about it but to laugh about it. My friend even told me that they're amazed how I'm not upset about it and how I'm staying positive like that. Of course you shouldn't take it too far and put yourself in like a lot of danger you know Sure, all of this took practice but I got it faster than I thought I would and it is truly rewarding ^^
@@Mari_PL thank you so much for this! @@pendafen7405 aww, thank you. I do think that it taught me a lot about how it feels when learning is hard. I taught children with various Special Needs at the time and it made me appreciate just how painful, personal and emotional the experience can be to have to learn difficult things. Until then I had been fortunate enough to find most tasks easy and I was expecting to practice a bit and then get the hang of it. It was horrible to keep making mistakes and getting things wrong. I like to think I'd been a patient and good teacher with a lot of respect for learners before then, but it certainly gave me a new perspective on how it feels to struggle. I was full of frustration and blamed myself for everything. I knew how my pupils felt! It took me more than the usual number of lessons, but gradually I got there and now I love driving. And, this comfort zone can both increase and decrease. As someone with agoraphobia, I have to take very small steps when it comes to improving my ability to go out and about. Sit at my front door for a few hours a day, sit outside on my patio for a few hours a day, go for a walk down the street, go to an in-person appointment in a place I've never been to before, spend an hour in a busy shopping centre, all these little steps occur over months and months, and slowly my comfort zone gets bigger, but if I stop going out for too long, the comfort zone shrinks again. It's a constant and ongoing struggle for some people, and that's okay!❤
I really like your use of visuals. Over time little challenges build our character. As we continue to challenge ourselves our confidence grows. Great advice and very practical.
Theory is always easy, working inwards and outwards, demands much More Than This conceptualization... keep on grinding whoever you are, and become the best version available to you at this Moment.
That was amazing! Thank you! You're so talented at explaining things in a way that makes sense. People have been trying to tell me that for years, but I never got it until just now. Thank you!!! 🙏💕🤗🥰
Two years ago I searched on Google about methods of building confidence and I remember to read “ doing task that you delay but you trust you can do it” I tried it and … it works! This tip really works.
So true. It's easy to be a little courageous every day. Just as easy to be too scared every day and stay inside. Make the right choice. Your days will expand before you know it.
I’ve been doing this the entire year and it’s true. My comfort zone has expanded and I’m baby stepping doing things that I would have never allowed myself to do only a year ago. Good things that are allowing me to discover my true likes.

We ask people to fill this with things in their life on our courses. We call the stretch zone the learning zone. We ask them what they want to change into a better zone and we use that to help them build goals!
I've been experiencing this for the past few months and I have to say, it's challenging but wonderful to make the outside world a part of my comfort zone.
Her voice is so soothing. Her face is so beautiful. Overall such positive and soothing calm aura she has. Just by seeing her talking, listening to her voice it feels sooo good
She's so good in explaining. Really true. I really need my challenges, to protect me from being bored and learn something in the unknown. That keeps me feeling alive and young. People get shocked when I tell them my age. I look very young comparing to the ones who just stay at home and watching the news.
I cannot thank you enough. I'm really struggling right now and with no insurance can't afford any type of therapy or doctors so I can't tell you how much this means to. My that you put these little things out here. Today is was very very helpful when you've been beat down building confidence is really hard.❤ Without sounding extreme this is actually very likely it takes confidence to get out of a bad situation.
I like this channel and videos. One surprising thing that happens everytime is a short from this channel is recommended to me comes in when I scroll up the shorts only when I'm worried, upset or not happy. When I'm good and happy nothing from this channel comes in my way even though I have subscribed to it. It's kinda magic, what a coincidence! Right words at right time. TH-cam knows about my mood 😅

I was basically thinking of what I always thought was cool when other people did it and where I thought "I really wish I could do that".
Some smaller things like:
- saying something in a group conversation when I normally would just think it (if you want to do it like me and take a silent but deep breath and just say it. Yes I know it's not that easy)
- laughing more often and not laughing if I find something offensive or not really funny
- showing more of my real humor (for example more sarcasm or irony)
- complimenting what I like about others and saying what I don't find like (like I told a former friend that I just can't deal with his really dark humor and that i find it hurtful)
- touching my friends and family more often (like on the shoulder, arm or back) and hugging my family randomly (ofc only if you're comfortable)
- texting someone if they want to meet up, even if I was scared they would say no
- trusting more that people like me but still recognize the signs if they are faking it
- if I am worried to be judged I trained myself to think more often "idc what are they gonna do" and if they do laugh about me I'll laugh about/with them and if they stare at me I stare at them
- concentrating on the positive
- realizing that I will 100% regret it if I don't live out my younger years
There's also some bigger things I did regarding hobbies and stuff, for example:
- I always wanted to play the drums but I never had the money for that so I called a music school, told them about it and went to a practice class where the first "try-out-day" is free. The first day I practiced for 3 hours and the third time I fell, I bruised my elbow because I was stupid enough to not wear safety gear.
Thank you. I really needed this.
Wow this helps me a lot
She's so calming, great therapist🎉
I like this. Omg. I want a third dream job. Author, engineer, and psychologist.
This is also known as: "the 5 minute, 15 minute and 30 minute zone" on maps 😂
I’ve been doing this the entire year and it’s true. My comfort zone has expanded and I’m baby stepping doing things that I would have never allowed myself to do only a year ago. Good things that are allowing me to discover my true likes.
Good for you! Congrats! 😊
*me as a person who draws a lot and also watching dr.Julie as someone who is over emotional *

Btw no hate your channel and vids r amazong
Ur accent is just awesome. I can listen u talk whole day and night
Dr. Julie explains it better than anyone else in the last 25 years of therapy.
I totally agree. I actually placed myself in situations where i have to challenge myself. Its hard. Healing is difficult but its worth it. ❤
One world "thank you "😍😍😍
We ask people to fill this with things in their life on our courses. We call the stretch zone the learning zone. We ask them what they want to change into a better zone and we use that to help them build goals!
And the bigger your comfort zone gets, the bigger your stretch zone gets, and the smaller your panic zone gets! ❤️❤️
You are a gift to the world Dr Julie. Keep healing! God bless. 👊
This psychologist is amazing!
There way you lay this out really resonates. I believe it’s possible for people who are willing to make huge shifts and gains via insights like this.
I've been experiencing this for the past few months and I have to say, it's challenging but wonderful to make the outside world a part of my comfort zone.
Her voice is so soothing. Her face is so beautiful. Overall such positive and soothing calm aura she has. Just by seeing her talking, listening to her voice it feels sooo good
Thank you so much for your help❤
How lovely, simple, and amazing with the variety of presentations❣️ You are a gem ❣️ Thank you for all the efforts, always❣️
She's so good in explaining. Really true. I really need my challenges, to protect me from being bored and learn something in the unknown. That keeps me feeling alive and young. People get shocked when I tell them my age. I look very young comparing to the ones who just stay at home and watching the news.
You’re so right, we need challenges to grow and learn. And yes it helps us feel young! I can imagine you’re feeling great!
Small wins create big wins... Your insightful...
Once again: so simple, yet so profound
This is beautiful and true. And it works. Every. Single. Day.
I like how everything is so simple yet so effective.
Her voice relaxes me.🙂
She’s very good at this.
Just by looking at you i feel relax and calm
It is like learning a new hobby or sport, you just get better and better
Amazing the difference this makes . Follow Dr Julie !
Dr julie i rate you for making all the visual displays. You a legend in my eyes.
This makes so much sense!!... I was brought up to worry about everything which really affected my outlook...
Confidence is a skill
You’re so adorable Dr. Julie. And the advice is sound, reasonable.
Thanks so much, Dr Julie, for recognizing needed in some people in there lives,!Amen!❤❤❤
I love her voice it relaxes me so much
I cannot thank you enough.
You always explain things outside the box. Love your content!
Thank you your content is so helpful
This lady makes so much sense, thank you ❤
Using this with my elderly mom, to help her get back outdoors. Your explanations are very clear and helpful. Thank you!
you are my favorite psychologist, I love listening to all your advice on TH-cam, sounds like lectures to simplify everyday life...
The most different advice i count for stepping out of comfort zone is this and really pragmatic too thanku
I love this #short - it’s so encouraging!! Thank you @DrJulie 😊
God, I love this woman. Don't know if I can ever implement what she suggests, but she is so comforting.
Dr. Julie you nailed it! Thank You
Thank you for being a positive force in this world!
I adore this wonderful human being
It’s interesting watching you grow. I’ve been watching your videos for some time now. You’re the number one thing to get me out of a panic attack.
Dr u r saving lots of trauma of lots of people like me ,God Bless
HARE KRISHNA 🕉
Dr. Julie, I have grown so much from your platforms and your book. Thank you so much. I have been in therapy for 2 years now and due to the current crisis I may have to cut back on my weekly sessions. I know that you are so helpful and that I am in excellent hands.
