- In this video I am sharing with you something I have been dreaming about for years, but just started to do recently: distillation! I am using a copper alembic from Candles & Supplies to distill my own hydrosols from herbs, flowers and botanicals that we either grow locally or harvest wild from the Magdalen Islands. I am just reading a young adult novel called "The Orange Trees of Versailles" in which the author Annie Pietri used the word "alembic" and I came here to see this lovely video and understand the context AND meaning for this new to me word. So fascinating! Thank you! The story is about a young girl who has a knack for mixing scents and parfum.

Yes, what is missing here is the "smell-o-vision"! That was very interesting, and I have often thought of doing this myself. We have an entire shelter belt of sea buckthorn, and every fall it hurts my heart to see it all just go to waste. I think I should show this video to my hubby.

Thank you so much for the informative tutorial. I really appreciate it. I have a distiller and enjoyed making several hydrosols. My one concern is when to determine the evaporation process is complete. I have been timing with each one, but it would be helpful to visually see the amount remaining. I was told that you should watch the drip pattern and when the drip really slows down you should be complete I was also informed that the temperature should go down slightly when the water is almost evaporated.
This is not a very convenient or supportive method to determine whether you are going to burn your pot by overheating. I have done it once and it’s a messy cleanup. The thermometer does not drop in temp. Thank you

Shout out to PA 🤙🏻 my first home - the state that made me who I am today.. it deff has its flaws and stigmas but, I met some of the greatest friends that I still have contact with today. TBH it wasn’t hard to leave but I sure do miss it often, I think I have a strong connection with the area I grew up in because- my family immigrated here from Ireland during the potato famine in the 1840s&50s. The men took jobs as security and even law enforcement jobs in the community while the women built strong communities between the church and family business. Since the Civil War, atleast one memeber of my family living at the time has faught for the US (for which I am extremely proud) I’m not trying to brag or boast but I do take extreme pride & joy in the deep roots my family has in Eastern Pa.

So I've been admiring this still for the last 3 years and my husband just got me one for an anniversary gift. I'm so excited to start. I am curious though, you pointed out the essential oil floating on the surface and how you weren't going to separate them. How would I go about separating that oil of I did want to go through the effort if collecting it?

I Love your videos!! I have a question. I am pretty new to cold process. I have done rebatch in the past and I am having trouble with adding EO's and or fragrance. So far every time I add in the EO's my batch thickens up soooo fast I can hardly get in a loaf pan fast enough. What am I doing wrong?

Do you feel it is necessary to use a preservative in cold process soap while using a handmade Hydrosol?
I own a commercial kitchen so all the sanitizing will be easy as far as that goes.
Just wondering if the preservative is absolutely necessary, sure hate to put something like that in an otherwise all natural soap.
