For your cooling, try adapting the hose to the lower input tube on your condenser, and use your top output to drain off into your pond. You can regulate your input so that you don't overcome your output ...
That's a great idea, and I think it's actually meant to be that way. But I have SO much trouble getting the tubes to work the way they should, I just figured I'd use a hose for now. Could definitely use some show and tell on this. When I distill inside during winter, do you know what's so easy? Using snow! But now is when all the plants are getting ready!
Your studio, or at least what can be seen, looks fantastic. Admittedly, I'm not a fanatic about essential oils, but I appreciate them, nonetheless. Thank you for your informative presentation.
Thanks, Frank! The great outdoors is a WONDERFUL studio! :-) It's also the best place to distill plants, in my opinion---well, unless you have a tiny still. I'm curious....why not a fan of essential oils? I realize there are some downsides, and I'm always curious about what others think?
@@HeidiVillegas Truthfully, I know little about essential oils. I've always practiced a policy of leaving things alone unless I know more or enough about them. I'm not a wealthy man and, to be candid, I have other interests in my time as well as my own forgetfulness (Age is not always kind). I have an eye for art and a love for beauty; I thought the background of your studio looked very good, and that it deserved comment to reflect such an opinion. The outdoor area displayed looked very well maintained from the topography and flora to the clean equipment used for the purpose of your video, and the indoor area looked very clean & colorful but not too loud in color. Anyway, that is just my opinion and I thought I should share it.

Wow! What a great video, and that is a beautiful still btw. I've never made essential oils, however I do know a lil bit about running a copper rig......you would be an amazing Moonshiner no doubt about it. Same rules apply, heat on low heat and run slow. Great Video
Great tutorial you did such a nice job on explaining everything. I am loving all of my hydrosols and recently I made a fruit hydrosol for autumn it came out fantastic
Thank you so much for the informative tutorial. I really appreciate it. I have a distiller and enjoyed making several hydrosols. My one concern is when to determine the evaporation process is complete. I have been timing with each one, but it would be helpful to visually see the amount remaining. I was told that you should watch the drip pattern and when the drip really slows down you should be complete I was also informed that the temperature should go down slightly when the water is almost evaporated. This is not a very convenient or supportive method to determine whether you are going to burn your pot by overheating. I have done it once and it’s a messy cleanup. The thermometer does not drop in temp. Thank you
Great tips and thoughts on this. I appreciate it very much. I'm also experiencing the same wonderings....how to tell when it's finished? I tend to wrap them up on the early side, I think.

I believe it's a 10L. It is quite manageable, actually. I love it. But I don't tend to get much EO from it, even with it's size. Depending on what you're wanting, you may need a larger one. :-)
Instead of having constant flow from hose can you fit an auto filler attachment on the hose? Like the Little Giant trough float valve? Would be great addition and little more hands off.
Honestly, I would go with 5L, 10L, and maybe a 20L if I ever become serious about distilling EO's. I did just purchase a small 5L Ukrainian model that is specifically for EO's, and am excited about trying out some rosemary that's growing in my house right now!

Hi, Calen! No, not in Butte----We're over in Clearwater. I get my stills from Copper Brothers. They're in Portugal, and the shipping is insane....but these stills are worth it.
Interesting to see how you use the alambic for...other purposes (just kidding). I'm from Ukraine and use this thing to make wonderful grape, raspberry, plum and cherry brandy.
