Ha! I was born in great falls, MT and I lived for 18 years in the lavender capital of the US, Sequim Washington! And I love the stuff! I always harvest when I go back to visit my son.
What are the use of hydosol? Of essential oil? It can be done as business? There is demand for essential oil? One set of of distillation is enough for all types of essential oil like different flowers leaves herbs are there even for roses?
Hello Shamim. So glad you are interested in the distilling process. At this time, we are not set up to train folks on how to distill, so your best bet would be to find some courses to gain a better understanding. As for the uses of lavender, if you go to www.aromatics.com, our lavender pages have some great information, as well as recipes. All the best to you in your endeavors.
Great video! Can't wait to get this amazing new batch of your Lavender! Sorry I missed the live presentation today. Love your handpicked harvesting in this video, and the beautiful copper distiller that you use. Very interesting explanation of the 15 varieties that you use for a blend of notes to come through on the essential oils. Thank you!
I'm curious if you can answer a question I have. I've been wanting to grow lavender for making essential oil and hydrosol on a small scale so I wanted to get the most productive variety of lavender. I've read that the best yielding ones are hybrids that you have to propagate from plant material but I want to grow from seed. Do you guys know what variety is the highest oil content variety that still can grow true to type from seed? thanks
Good question! We've never started Lavender from seed as it is very difficult to grow. All of our plants are from starters that we have purchased. We don't have a list of which ones are highest yield, but the ones we grow are munstead, royal velvet, folgate, and blue hidcote to name a few (:
Hi AJ glad you enjoyed our video! We have nearly 1,000 lavender plants in our high-altitude lavender field, located in western Montana. We purchased our plants, rather than propagating them, and have many varieties of lavandula angustifolia 💕
Hello! We do not teach distillation, but for reference, we use fresh plant material. If you would like to buy a still, please e-mail team@aromatics.com and we can give you some information.
We go off of the guidelines in Ann Harmons book 'Harvest to Hydrosol'. We check the pH every 15-30 minutes, and once the pH starts to drop, you know it is done (:
Hi there, I love your live broadcast.I love extraction essential oils too.By the way, is the copper distilation set is one of your products too.How much is the distilation set
Great question! It does vary a little year to year depending on the season, but a good estimate is about 150 gallons of hydrosol. Our field is a little over an acre.
wait a minute , if you have only lavender then you only have ONE NOTE, you dont get 3 different notes , because you have one oil , one kind of oil. Base , top and whatever note comes from mixing different ingredients its like music ,if you have only C3 note , thats it , you dont get upper , lower base note , thats it its C3 , that would be base note , upper one would be something like Lemon oil and bottom would be something like , i dont know some residual note of something . So thats how it works , you need 3 ingredients at least to have 3 notes
We grow many varieties of lavandula angustifolia. Some have more middle to base notes, while other varieties are close to top and middle notes. Once all the plants have been distilled and we mix the oil together, a trained nose can pick out the different notes of the different varieties (:
@@Aromatics Oh its like that , well i guess its possible , but still i wouldnt call it a chord , maybe a Triade but of same notes just different scale , like c3,c4,c5 . Maybe i don't know
wgats the difference between the normal plant Oil and = Essential Oil???? = And does it worth all these painful process ??? = There is No Medical science sor far proved of Medical benefits of Essential Oil; except it smell and Aroma only!!! = Is it worthy???????
Normal plant oil is essential oil (: Plants naturally contain chemical components that make them very therapeutic. For example, eucalyptus naturally contains a component called 1,8 cineole which is amazing for supporting the lungs when dealing with a cold, flu, allergies etc. There are a handful of studies out there that show the phenomenon and power of essential oils. It's fascinating!
Hi April! Distilling over the last few years, we know we can distill for about 5 hours give or take before the pH starts to drop off. Once we hit a certain point, we will check more frequently, and when we see it start to drop significantly, we stop the distillation.
Oh, ok. My sig. other bought me a 3 gallon stainless still to try making hydrosols. Not knowing, really, what I was doing, I distilled for about 2 hours. (From the time I turned the heat on). I put a steamer basket upside down in the bottom and filled the pot with fresh lilacs. I added about a quart of water to the pot and got about a pint from it before shutting it off. I would love to learn more about making hydrosols! I didn’t see any oil at all in the lilac water and I haven’t tried any other plants yet.
Love seeing how you process the lavender and your lovely lavender fields!
I love lavender it's one of my favorite essential oils. Thank you for letting us see your harvest season.
Thanks for watching! Harvest season is one of our favorite times of the year (:

Would you need the condenser if you just wanted to drink distilled water?
A condenser would still be necessary as that is what turns the steam into liquid.
@@Aromatics thank you

How fun! How many plants do you have on your plot? Did you propagate, start from seed, or purchase plants?

Mother daughter?! I thought y'all were sisters! Thanks for sharing this video. Very interesting.
Thanks for watching! They are a mother, daughter duo (:
where can you buy a distiller like this?
Great question! If you e-mail our customer service team at team@aromatics.com, they can give you the details (:
Did you need to dry plants before placing it in?
Hello! We do not teach distillation, but for reference, we use fresh plant material. If you would like to buy a still, please e-mail team@aromatics.com and we can give you some information.
How do you know how long to distill the lavender until it’s done
We go off of the guidelines in Ann Harmons book 'Harvest to Hydrosol'. We check the pH every 15-30 minutes, and once the pH starts to drop, you know it is done (:
@@Aromatics Thanks I’ll have to get the book.
Who did you get started
Hi there, is it best to distill fresh cut lavender or dry lavender? Thanks so much
Hi Katherine! When we pick the lavender, we harvest it as soon as it starts to dry out a little, then we put it in the still directly after.
Hello, just interested in what size of distiller you are using outside for the essential oils. Looks like a 200 liter? Thanks for any information!
Hi Ginger! Yes, it's about a 200 liter (:

Out of interest, how many litres/size is that distiller? Great video btw :)
Our large still is about 200L (:
Yeah, what's the cost of a small distiller?
Hello! Feel free to reach out to team@aromatics.com and we can give you more information (:
What size still is that?
The base holds about 1 gallon of water. This size is great for personal distillation.
Amazing, thanks!
Thanks for watching!
❤ love it. I just order some lavander oil
anyone have ear balance problem ?

He said he was checking the ph every half hour. How do you know when the ph “drops off”? If you check it twice and it doesn’t change?
