  • This video demonstrates how to replace the PCV system (PCV breather hose and suction pump) on a 1999 VW B5 Passat with the V6 2.8L engine. The part numbers for the 2 parts I used are as follow -
    078 103 224 R (078103224R) - PCV valve and tubing
    058 133 753 D (058133753D) - Suction pump

    Did the trick... I have an Audi 2000 2.8L that was leaking oil in a major way but no dash lights. A mechanic said leaking camshaft seals $1,200-$1,400 repair - right, like that's going to happen.
    Found your video and bought the all the parts for $30. The suction pump was totally blocked. Carefully changed everything - old and brittle - and now no leaks..... amazing. Thanks for documenting what you did... p.s. thanks for recommending those clamps - I got them in advance too...

      Hi, how much oil did it leak in your audi? Mine used to take 3-4 quarts for 15.000km, now its more than twice. I would like to change the suction pump, maybe thats the issue. PCV is already changed.

    I'd recommend checking the ports where the lines connect to the valve cover. Mine were completely blocked, so new lines wouldn't have helped alone

    This video was extremely informative thank you so much I am working on this car currently right now. Believe It or Not the PCV hose was completely missing it had a multiple cylinder misfire code in the computer. I believe this hose is causing a massive vacuum leak which is causing the multiple cylinder misfire. whoever worked on the car prior to me did not replace the PCV hose after a valve cover gasket I believe was changed. it's behooves me I can't think of any other reason why someone would take this hose off and not put it back on the car

    Good video - so for people looking at this - you Do NOT need NEEDLE NOSE pliers just some basic CUTTING PLIERS OR buy 1 pair of KNIPEX HOSE CLAMP PLIERS which are made to take those ears off and put them back on without destroying them or cutting them so they can't be used. The KNIPEX is about $85.00 while a nifty pair of bolt cutters is $20 - $30 bucks. I just removed the hose - pretty easy and removed the top plate with all the smaller hoses. No issues but got to the ear clamps and looked at it and said - No thanks...I better read up on it...glad I did...and now it makes sense what this cat is saying but it makes it look like you need those bolt cutters to 'cut out' the PCV Suction Pump but that's not what he's doing he's cutting the ear hose clamps and replacing those with the screw clamps. Also I cut threw 3 ear clamps and not 4 to get the valve out which were the clamp on top of the valve and under it and to the side. I don't really know what the 4th ear clamp this cat is cutting and why he's doing that - I didn't need to do it...just a FYI.

    Hi, i have done PCV replace and there is still no suction under the oil cap. Could you please check the oil cap in your car? There should be suction with the working PCV i think.

    My 2003 2.8 has no suction pump, it has the pancake diaphragm pcv valve. I developed major valve cover and timing seal leaks at 150k miles. All of the original pcv system was completely blocked causing high crankcase pressure. Not only the hoses and valve were replaced. Most importantly I have to pull off the metal pipe bolted to the block below the throttle body because it completely blocked solid with rock hard carbon buildup. Hopefully the leaks will stop with the proper pcv flow!

    I guess the 2.8 in 2004 had a different variation of PCV Valve. Mine looks like a hockey puck, and the long breather hose doesnt split off on the firewall side of it like yours.
    Wish you should a little bit more in depth on the removal and install.

    3:25 The third connection... what's the other pipe that goes "down" into the engine? When I was replacing my breather hose, I pulled it up and it was broken, not connected to anything

    • @Mestari222
      @Mestari222 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ThinkGrowSucceed probably to crankcase. I understood the breather system is connected to both valve covers and crankcase.

    Hey Hello. I have an Audi A6 C5 1999. The engine is the same as yours. I would like to know what viscosity you use for the oil. 5w30? or 5w40. What do you recommend me. I think 10w40 is a lot. I hope you can help me. Thank you.

    Sweet, thanks for the upload on this. I just purchased a 2001 a6 quattro with a 2.8 with low mileage a couple months ago for my identical twin sons that are 17 years of age so they have something to drive to college this summer for their summer courses. I have to replace the pcv system in their car and this video will help.
    The cam seals, cam bore plugs and the entire timings set was replaced including the chain sliders, new valve cover gaskets and some other things. I don't understand why they did not have the pcv system replaced while they were in the shop. From what I have read, if you are going to replace your valve cover seals, you mite as well maintain the crank case pcv system while you are at it. Again, thanks for the upload.

    You can find these on Ebay for $10-$40 for the complete set. All options re the same, whether they say China made or "Made for VW" unless you can find German parts... They are all the same. China knock-offs are exact duplicates of the German version.. Just an FYI.

    Open house in side of valve cover spray carb cleaner in about 6 seconds lift up hose as far as it will go out hose back on start engine rev engine.congradulations you have now cleaned your PVC system. If your feeling froggy take the oil cap off then take right side house off spray carb cleaner half can then push compressed air through same side then rev rev rev .just sayn

      It will connect to another plastic hose (part number I believe is 078103224H) then that hose connects to a port beneath the throttle body. Mine snapped, so I'm ordering one on Ebay, may be an after market. Just search for crankcase breather hose.

    I see a 3 port valve, (prv valve?) at the end of your new set. The diaphragm was broken and stuck just inside a port. I intend on just replacing this prv valve. Can you tell me how these cage type connectors (on either end of your new kit) come apart ? are they cut and new one snaps together or ?

      In my opinion , I would simply replace it on any VW/ Audi 2.8L vehicle. It is 15+ years old and while it may functioning at some level, is that 10% or 40%, no way to know, and it could fully fail at any time.

      If you search TH-cam for "VW B5 Passat PCV valve cover tube repair" you will see someone who did use a different tube. I believe their old hose was brittle and cracked, not clogged.

    • @Mestari222
      @Mestari222 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Emiliano Zapata it is probably hard plastic so it stays in shape. Wrong type of hose can collapse in vacuum so the system gets blocked..
